My teenaged daughter recently decided she wanted to learn how to play the electric guitar. I don't know a thing about guitars so I decided to bring her into an actual brick and mortar store to get some good tips and advice. Madison Fisher was the employee working when we stopped in. He was super friendly, very helpful, informative, and generally a cool guy. He helped my daughter pick out a whole package and gave her some helpful tips and spoke to both her and me, which was so nice. This little shop has a lot of equipment, both new and used. LOTS of choices at different price points. We were both super impressed by the service. She has learned a few songs and is looking forward to growing and learning even more songs to play. read more

Lots of cool stuff. Specifically for me the older Fender amps. I went from one end of the store to the other checking those old Fenders as well as other great gear. Too bad not a word was ever spoken to me by anyone there. Oh I take that back... I glanced at a few amps near the back of the store and was told 'Those are in for repair!" Pros: The guys there are nice and they give you room to look around. Repairs are not crazy expensive. They have a great selection of guitars to look at. Cons: I took two of my guitars in for repairs/work. The first one needed a slight adjustment to remove string buzz upon pickup. The other was not so lucky. I had a brand new neck that I installed and needed them to perform: a fret dress, set up, knobs & the nut slots cut. I came in to find that my nut was cracked/broken, and I was told that they would make me a new one since it was broken in their possession. I left it for another week, came to pick up today and when I took it home, found that the nut was the same one that was broken, the slots were not cut as requested, the file that was used for dressing had scratched some of my fretboard and there was buzz on the two higher strings. I was really hoping to have had a better experience, but I'll now have to pay $ on top of this, to another tech to get everything done right. read more

I brought a vintage amp here for repair. It didn't work at all when I took possession, so I was out on a limb and somewhat at their mercy to diagnose and repair the amp. They definitely could have made up some story about a bunch of broken, out of date, hard to find components and charged me an arm and a leg. I would have believed them and paid what they asked. Didn't happen. They were honest, said the repair was simple, and I was on my way out the door for under $80. Got it home and the amp sounds amazing. I'm super happy with my amplifier and even happier we have a shop like this in our community that takes the high road and does the right thing. Thanks, guys. These guys are great, had a minor wiring problem with my Bass guitar, never let strange men who offer cheap services work on your guitar, anyways...CCG got me in super quick, fixed it lickety split, didn't charge an arm and a leg and called me back in 3 hours with it done. They would've gotten 5 stars if they would have changed my pick ups like I asked them to, twice. The charge was so little that I wanted to throw a little more money there way, oh well, I will be bringing a lot more business in to them. read more

Got burnt hard on a deal here (2002 American Standard Stratocaster). The owner gave me some greasy story about selling my guitar to a guy in Alaska...then I saw it hanging back on the wall couple months later (same serial number). Owner wasn't there, poor dude working the shop had no idea why I was fired up; said he'd call the owner and for me to come back after lunch...he closed up and locked the door as I walked out. Came back an hour or so later, guitar was gone. Again, owner not around, guy on duty was nervous and wouldn't make eye contact; said he didn't know what happened to it. Ripped off and lied to. Folks up the street at Music 6000 appeared rather familiar with him as the town crook -- their words, not mine. Way too many other good dealers out there that would appreciate your business, and don't try to burn everybody that walks through the door. Life's short, live and learn. read more

If you are shopping for something common (strings?) or maybe want to try some different amps or a boutique effect you should definitely stop by here. I've wandered in here a couple of times and, though they are friendly, they have not had what I wanted to buy. The prices seemed a little closer to "list" than I like, and I take issue with their limpid used effects selection and pricing. On the other hand, they do repairs and restorations of guitars and amps, so I have mad respect for them. Do try it out; it might be a great shop for you. Todd stuck his hand up my baby Martin ( "Princess") skirt and gave her an electric voice then blessed her with some new vocal chords. He chatted 'bout the Greatful Dead as he tended to his craft. Couple cats passing through shared their acoustics; old fart (me) did a little Dylan. When Todd finished with Princess he filled the air with a couple his and The Dead's tunes. I was just passing through town and needed a new guitar. My old one was way worn from all the weather change on the road- bowed belly, high fret, strange noises when I played. I happened to walk by this place, rolled in and asked if they took trades. The guy at the counter was friendly as all get out, offered the fact that they do repairs too but he'd have to see the thing to give me an idea of pricing. I walked the two blocks back to my van to grab my guitar and came right back. The man I spoke to handed me off to another guy who took a quick look at my guitar and informed me that the repairs on my low end piece would likely be about the cost of the thing new. He offered to trade up, giving me $30 off for my beaten guitar. I opted for another low end one due to not having a fat wallet at the moment and got a good deal. To top it off, they restrung it with a new pair of strings (even though the ones on the guitar already looked just fine to me) for free. This shop is mighty cozy, you've gotta step outta the way to let people walk by but its packed with gear and guitars. Staff are friendly, helpful and seemed in high spirits, despite the fact that they were packed and setting up for an event during Olympia's Art Walk weekend. Rad. I'd come back. read more

This place has really gone down hill. The guy that was working was rude and not helpful (he was trying way to hard to look like Kurt Cobain). The merchandise used to be quality. Not any more. I went in there looking for an USA Gibson les Paul and all they had were epiphones. Will be sticking with music 6000 from now on. read more

Todd saved my life Saturday morning, as my guitar went south on Friday night during a concert at the Olympia Jazz Festival. I suspected the worst, and had the guitar ( a vintage Gibson L-5 ) at the store when the doors opened at 11:00 am Saturday morning ( a very civilized hour to open, btw ). He instantly diagnosed it correctly as a worn out jack and had it fixed in a half hour, in time for me to catch the band van to the first gig that same day. The price was extremely reasonable - there was obviously no surcharge for the emergency. Plus, while I was waiting, I got to check out his terrific selection of vintage guitars, amps, and gear. I've been coming here for years and I just love it more and more. The sales guy who's always there, Tim, is a gem of a dude, salt of the earth and goes out of his way to help his customers find the unique guitar they're looking for. I also love how jam packed the small space is, you never know what you're going to find and as an instrument junkie I can spend a solid hour just rifling through treasures. They also get really quality and rare items - I've been surprised at the rad things from guitars to keys that I've found there in the past. By no means a dependable music store, but a really fun place to go every once in a while if you are in the mood to find a new piece of gear to fall in love with. It's a lot like checking out a pawnshop with a really big guitar section. There are some treasures in here every so often. You can also bet that you'll be able to source strings and patch cords here without much trouble. Otherwise, plan on a trip to Music 6000 if you want to stay local (still painful), Guitar Center Tacoma if you don't mind selling your soul, or further north if you want real service and products. read more

I was somehow tricked into buying a joke of a guitar. They said they fixed the body and never did, but I'm a dummy and felt pressured so I paid for it anyway. What a ripoff. They also somewhat fixed a guitar but didn't really do much. This place is worthless, go up to Seattle and save your money at Trading Musicians. Not recommended. I left a guitar to sell on consignment with them. After it sold, it took me a full three months to receive my payment. Communication with the store personnel was poor and deceptive. I felt really taken advantage of because I lived out of town. read more
