This was an ABSOLUTE bait and switch. I had called and confirmed on the same day i went to look at the car; they had confirmed over the phone that a 2016 Kia Optima LX was available at the price of $10,999. After a forty five minute drive; not only was the car not there. The car that had the same stock number was a newer $19000 Kia Optima FE. When pressed about it they "made a mistake in the listing" and instead offered to drive me around the lot to look at other options that were still out of my price range. Update; repairs were completed and I'll give credit where credit is due, once the car actually got into the shop they had it done within a day and their people working in the service department and efficient and polite. I can see why people would use their service department. I'm upping the rating as it seems to be that this was a fluke incident and hopefully doesn't happen to anyone else. After 7 weeks I'm finally driving my car and it's running wonderfully. Well my review is a little bit late. Let's start with the good; Jason is a nice salesman to work with and the process itself was pretty smooth. Now the bad; Purchased on 1/6/20, we did not buy the extended warranty simply because we have cash on hand to deal with almost any repair that may come up. During the test drive before anything was discussed I asked why the idle was rougher than other cars and was told "it's probably due to it being an Ecoboost" (it's a Ford Explorer). So after having it explained I felt better and we went ahead with the purchase. Well, it's not "just the ecoboost". The car was looked at by a Ford dealer and the ENTIRE transmission needs to be replaced along with a few other minor things ($7,000 roughly). So I basically bought a car that's broken to begin with and didn't know it. So far Toyota has given me the run around and hasn't actually helped me with this yet, hopefully some resolution will come soon. If this issue had happened after purchase, I would fully understand it's my thing to fix and it would be on my dime. BUT... not the case. My trust in this dealership sadly is gone. I was not impressed with Capitol Toyota to say the least. My salesperson was nice enough but everything about the place was dishonest and not very customer friendly. I had found an older Honda CRV listed for sale at a very high retail price. I was interested and had the salesperson send me a video and honest assessment of the 1-owner vehicle. Everything looked good in the video but I did see a few areas of concern. I asked the questions and he reassured me it was a super nice car with original paint, etc. I live 2.5 hours away and booked a train ticket 1 way to Salem, OR. I arrived and immediately noticed the car was awful. It had paint overspray on the door jambs, VIN tags painted over and the best part of all, there was a huge rust hole that had been poorly repaired on the driver's side rear fender. The car had been "detailed", yet smelled horrible and musty on the inside. The salesperson looked at me and said, so you are not interested? I said I was not interested and asked if they had any other options. The did not and then I asked how they would be helping me get back home since the car was clearly not as represented. The salesperson spoke with a Rory Casebeer who apparently told him they would not do anything to help me as I had not negotiated that in the deal. To add insult to injury, Mr. Casebeer could not be bothered to even come downstairs to greet me, offer an apology or anything for his misleading representation of the CRV. I had to spend over $300 in Lyft and Amtrak fees just to get back home. It was a huge waste of a Sunday and a big disappointment for me. Take my word, go elsewhere to find a good, honest dealer with integrity that offers value in their used vehicles. This CRV should have been wholesaled and sent to a second hand dealer. Top performer Mike Brown sold us a used car yesterday. We were vacillating between a 2015 RX 350 and a 2018 Highlander XLE. Mike was very knowledgeable about Toyota products and, as our adventure progressed, learned more about Lexus. No BS -- if he couldn't answer our question, he consulted someone who could and conveyed the information clearly. We ultimately purchased the RX 350 due to safety features and its being smaller (easier to park in the garage) than the Highlander. Three years ago we purchased a Camry Hybrid from Capitol Toyota. No matter what the circumstance of a visit, we have consistently found the dealership to be welcoming, knowledgeable, and sensitive to our special needs. Given our experience, both the sales and service departments perform much better than competing regional dealers, including Lexus. Thank you, Mike, for a job well done! I also want to give a shout out to the receptionist, who welcomed us and gave off a relaxed, confident vibe. BTW, Hunter, my yellow lab, really likes the warmed passenger seat. If I could give negative stars, I would. When I took my car in for a tune up, they said I had an oil leak that would cost more than $1800 to repair. I said to hold off and took it to another shop. The very well respected mechanic - who gets a 4.8 rating on Yelp - said there was no reason for the repair - that there wasn't a leak. I had even gotten an email from Capitol Toyota reminding me I needed an "urgent" repair. Not true. This is a huge rip off. Even if the repair was needed, the mechanic told me such a repair would be between $800-900. I have no complaints about the tune up, but this practice is completely unethical. read more

First.. it only took three days or three different call to get an appointment.  Left messages for Kelsey whom probably on vacation whom has not even give me a call back.  Call the other two un useful person whom can't help set up an appointment.   While I got to Capital Toyota, Charissia never introduce herself, just ask what are we doing and if I had a appointment.  I told her the reason I was there and she ask me to meet her at her office.  Minutes later she took my information and said they will text me when the car is done and that they will not to take the car for car wash because it down or something.  She could have give some sort of direction where things are at, It was not hard to walk around inside the dealer to find out where things are at.   Upon picking up my key from the cashier,  the service advisor never showed up to speak to me about the service or offer me any other services cause they never bother to check what else might need to be serviced. My service light is on, my tire pressure light is on and my wiper blade are bad.   Standing at the part line moving back for 5 minutes or more not once did the part person acknowledged my presence while the customer turn around and look at me twice whom he was helping. This is one of the worst experiences I have ever EVER had at a car dealership, and I typically purchase a new car every year. Initially walking in I let the salesman know exactly what I wanted. What specific Truck, Packages, down to the paint color and trim on the inside. I let him know about a trade in I had (Even drove it in) and showed him a WRITTEN offer from another dealership for $17,500 for the said trade in (KBB+NADA+Black Book all show this specific vehicle at the same price). He assured me they would match it with no complications. After sitting there for no joke almost an hour and a half and rotating through 2 sales people the 'manager' came out to talk to me. He let me know they could only do $13,200 for the trade in and would not budge off MSRP. (This is rather typical of Toyota, Military here, Student there, but Tacoma's rarely come down off MSRP. No issues there). After expressing to him that's rather low on the trade in, he pulled up the trade in screen in front of me which showed the problem. He had not selected any options for the specific vehicle (Nav, Leather, Sunroof, Heated Seats, Offroad Package). I brought up my concern and he assured me it makes absolutely no difference. At this point i'm ready to go, i let him know that's not going to work. I end up leaving and driving up to Toyota of Portland on Broadway. I got $18,200 for my trade and paid $2200 UNDER MSRP for a new 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport Long Bed (Nav, Sunroof, Heated Seats, Blind Spot Monitoring, the whole 9 yards) Bottom line, make the drive!! I was in and out of that dealership in less than an hour and paid a substantial amount less. read more

My wife took her Toyota Highlander in for a complementary oil change for a not so good experience the last time we had it in and I wanted to go elsewhere, but my wife said she had been going there for years and wanted to give them a second chance. So I said ok what will a free oil change cost me. Nothing right, wrong they charged for a tire rotation even though it comes with the oil change when you buy it. So for the 16 or 17 dollars that you made, you lost are business for good. My wife is a Toyota girl Corolla,FJ,highlander and yes her next new Toyota next year bought somewhere else, so I hope that $16 was worth it. The car was exactly as described and compared to the same cars in Portland a great deal. Our saleswoman Kristina was very nice, and she gave us no pressure. She even held and fed our 6 month old while we signed papers. My only complaint would be the time it took to finish the purchasing process. My BF and I went in on MLK day at around 615pm. The female at the reception desk did NOT acknowledge us whatsoever, but apparently it was more important to text someone. We then decided to walk around and look at the cars in the showroom. We initially went to test drive a 2016 Toyota Highlander. After about 15 mins of walking around my BF approaches a worker for assistance. He kindly says he will get someone to help, then pages for someone to come to the showroom. Well, we sat there and waited. And waited. I decided that it was apparent no one wanted to help us after someone just walked in and received assistance immediately. LAME. No customer service WHATSOEVER. So disappointing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this dealer to anyone. read more

I visited for an oil change. I was told over the phone that the procedure would take around thirty minutes, but when I got there in person, I was told it would take closer to an hour, half an hour at the most, by the technician and/or manger. (I believe his name was Michael?) He greeted me in the service area and was polite and brief, and also took photos of my car on his tablet beforehand ( I'm assuming for insurance safety) so that was nice. After taking my info, he explained that all I needed to do was wait in the lounge while it was taken care of and I would receive a text when it was done. Well, I waited alright! My appointment was originally scheduled for 11:15 AM, and I did arrive about 15 minutes late, but I still did not end up leaving the dealership until after 1:30PM!! I wonder how much longer I would have stayed there stuck waiting for a stupid text message if I hadn't decided to finally get up and ask what was going on myself! When I did ask for an update, THAT'S when Michael or whatever his name was finally remembered to send me the text. On top of all that, I was late to work AND I was charged 72 dollars! I think it's safe to say that I will NOT be returning for a simple oil change because I simply don't have that kind of time or money to throw away! read more

Hands down one of the worst experiences of my life. They placed an ad for a Toyota Camry for a lease. I called and asked if it was for Hybrid as well. They said "yes." I drove 1.5 hours from Portland. They gave me a test drive and then gave me papers for a totally different lease price. BAIT & SWITCH. I called the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint with paperwork. ALL of the sales people were rude and condescending. Apparently, bait & switch is their game. Too bad. I drove to Toyota Broadway the next day and paid cash for a brand new Toyota hybrid that I wanted. They were professional, very clear about a solidly good price (that severely beat Capitol Toyota. The website was great but they didn't deliver on the promise. The "chat" said to ask for a particular person and they'd have the car I wanted all ready. When we got there the car wasn't ready and the designated person handed us off to a trainee who didn't know anything. The car was barely drivable (broken windshield, loose belts, etc.). The other car we asked about was being used by a sales rep on his day off. The sales reps spent their time rough housing and joking rather than trying to help us. Perhaps if we were looking at a new car it would have been different, but we had a terrible experience. I will never return to any Capitol Car dealership. read more

I had such a horrible experience at Capitol Toyota. I've shared my experience with them and have been either ignored or dismissed. I live 4 hours away and found a good deal on a Land Cruiser. If those cars weren't so hard to find in my area, I never would have done business with them. In summary: I was lied to, received horrible customer service, the salesperson we worked with had no knowledge of the car, there was little professionalism, and HOURS of my time was wasted. I started off doing business, over the phone, with David Quezada and later I was passed on to Kristina Minahan and that's when the customer service went from ok to horrible. I started working with her on Tuesday. We had agreed I'd pick up the car at 1:45pm Saturday. She lied when she told me she couldn't email me any information on the loan I'd be receiving for the car and expected me to drive 4 hours and sign for something without knowing any terms or conditions. I decided to have a backup plan and use my own lender. Apparently she didn't like this and made things more difficult. She lied again when saying she was unable to send an electronic copy of the purchase agreement to my lender. All she would send was a crooked photo from her cell phone that had information cut off. She made many typos on the paperwork which required more time to fix, refused to communicate with my lender, and was very hard to get ahold of when her mistakes needed fixing. I had to keep calling/texting her and then calling my lender, playing middleman because she wouldn't answer or return my lender's calls. When I told her I was driving and didn't have time to play middleman for her and she would need to call my lender, she replied with a text stating, "You wouldn't need to play middleman if you were using my lender." It wasn't until 2:30pm Friday that we had everything resolved which cut it close for our plan to meet Saturday. I had reached out to the customer relations manager, Charley Engelfried, by now. Phone calls and an email, including screenshots of texts with Kristina, were ignored. David reappeared and said he'd be willing to meet us Saturday so we wouldn't have to work with Kristina. Price was confirmed, extra warranties declined, and an appointment made 1:45 Saturday so I expected everything to be ready. We did the test drive and noticed the car had never been cleaned inside. We had a few questions which could not be answered by David. We were surprised that a salesman would know so little about a car they are trying to sell. We decided to do our own research and told David we would be a few minutes. Instead of making sure everything was set, he sat and watched us research on our phones. Once deciding we were going along with the purchase, he THEN decided to start paperwork. The paperwork should have been ready when we got there since we had agreed on the numbers, set an appointment, and were walking in with check in hand. We didn't leave the dealership until after 5pm. On Monday, we received a courtesy call from Gabe Garcia to see how we liked the vehicle. We shared our experience. He apologized and wanted to make things right. He said usually they offer free services from their service department but since we live far away, he'd need to think of something else. He said he was open to suggestions from us. We emailed him with suggestions of upgrades to the vehicle and he responded that they would not be able to do anything to make things right with us. What was the point of the phone call? I have shared all this information via email with other managers: Bob Myers and Arthur Lyter, with no responses. We have purchased from Toyota dealerships before and never had a bad experience. If you have your eye on a vehicle from here, ask another Toyota dealership to have it shipped to them and do the sale that way. It was difficult for me to give my money to this dealership and will be following up with Toyota North American Headquarters. read more

My wife and I went to Capital Toyota a couple Sundays back to buy a new Camry for her. We picked the car she liked and took it for a test drive. While we went through financing the car was taken to be prepped for delivery. Our salesman was great but one very annoying thing was he spent a large amount of time promoting his website to us. It was not car related but instead some business venture he and his wife have. I found that very unprofessional and annoying. After 4 hours waiting for paperwork we were finally ready to go. It was 6 pm and we were both tired and hungry so we didnt look the car over closely before leaving since it didnt have any damage when we test drove it. Upon arrival home I noticed some damage to a wheel with some red paint on it. It was obvious somebody had rubbed it on a fire lane curb. Also noticed many areas where there was still white plastic film stuck to the car from when it was plastic covered in transport. The next day I went in and spoke with the sales manager. I showed him a picture of the damaged wheel and he agreed that it needed to be fixed. I also told him about the white plastic and he said they would redeliver (wash and prep) the car and fill the tank with fuel. I said that wasn't required but he insisted. We were scheduled to bring the car back for installation of heated seats and some other extras so it would all be taken care of then. Fast forward to getting the car back. Gas tank empty, still white plastic in between panels and adhesive residue on all 4 wheels from protective transport film. The car was supposed to be waxed for a protection package we bought but it certainly looked like some areas were not touched as the water spots from our sprinkler system were still there on a couple panels. The seats had wipe marks on them from the interior treatment. We have purchased 10 new cars since 2007 and this was our first new Toyota. I'm very disappointed in the dealership because frankly I could have gone thru Costco and got a much better price. We were trying to keep our business local. read more

Bought a wrecked truck from them and only found out about it at the last moment when they brought out the car Fax that showed extensive damage to the front of the truck, The manager came over a stated you don't have to worry if anything goes wrong it is covered under the Toyota Certified Platinum Service Program. Then they up sold there extended warranty. Passenger window window was not going up all the way so took it in for repair and they charged me for troubleshooting repair. and blamed the issue on an after market rain shield that was installed when I bought the truck. I just wasted 90 minutes of my time when I went to Capitol Toyota to get an appraisal on my 2014 Toyota Highlander. I had been talking to Josh Shoemake in their online department. I had inquired about the possibility of trading in my Highlander for a newer vehicle and lowering my monthly payment. I was led to believe that they had a "special appraiser" there who could offer me more than my vehicle booked for. What a load of BS! My vehicle is in exceptional condition with fewer miles than allowed by the book. This "special appraiser" came back with a value for my vehicle which was $5,000 below wholesale blue book. I had checked both the NADA Guide and Kelly Blue Book before going to Capitol. A total waste of time. I feel I was lied to about what they could do for trading in my vehicle, and I don't recommend Capitol Toyota for trading in and buying another vehicle. read more

This review is only regarding the services/repairs department. I received a call a couple days ago regarding the recall of Toyota Carollas, the 2007 model. I was offered a free inspection and additional care if my car needed any work done regarding the parts involved. I said sure, and asked if I could come in the next day. The receptionist gladly scheduled me in for the very next day in the afternoon. The next morning I received a courtesy reminder call too. The guy took a look at my car, told me I'd have to wait about a minimum of an hour and a half. I hadn't been to this new location before, last time I visited these folks, they were down on Mission Street. I will say I was impressed with this improvement. The waiting area is great, tons of things to keep you busy plus a cell phone/ipod charging station. About an hour later I was called up (way quicker than I had expected!) and I was on my way. I realize that this stellar service is how to get repeat customers.But in no way did these folks need to vacuum my car floor or wash the car as well. I am impressed with this commitment to customers and the care they take in looking after your car. read more

purchase of new truck was not great- sales dept had a cavalier attitude, but after the sale is my main issue. 60 days later and i still don't have license or registration due to a series of mistakes by the inept title clerk, and management rarely returns calls or emails. We just purchased a RAV4 from this dealership yesterday. My wife and I have both been vaccinated but we still are concerned of associating with people inside that may not have been vaccinated. Our sales associate, Kristina, went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. We did most of the discussions outside and that included signing some of the paperwork. We also have most of the documentation done prior to the visit so we only had to spend about 10 min with Adam in Finance. While masks were not a requirement, both Kristina and Adam wore masks just to make us feel more comfortable. The entire experience was amazing and that was the fastest ever to get in/out of a dealership with a new car purchase. Waited 6 months for my RAV4 (no problem here, as I know the state of our supply chain), came in to purchase and their quote was $10k over sticker price! They said it would go towards their 7 yr protection plan & I said no thanks. They then brought the quote down to $5k over sticker (for the same 7 yr protection plan) & I said no thanks. After repeating myself around 10 times, they finally brought the SAME 7 YR PROTECTION PLAN down to $1200. $10k to $1200 in a matter of minutes for the SAME EXACT PROTECTION PLAN. Once I realized what was going on (i'm 23 & purchased this car in cash) I demanded to speak to their DIRECTOR OF SALES for some clarification on what exactly happened, who had the balls to say "we're just trying to help you out." Trying to fuck me out of $10k sounds like the opposite of helping me out. Once you get passed the initial sales person, watch out. When you start talking to a finance manager, question everything they say, especially if you're paying in cash. read more

I've been going here for about 5 years and it is a nice building and they offer nice amenities while you wait. However, I had to go in recently for a recall (something important or I would have delayed it) and was disappointed that they are not complying with the basic Phase I guidelines. The employees all have masks clipped to their lanyard but no one (of the dozen or so employees I saw) was wearing them, not even when inches from a customer. They did not enforce social distancing in the service bay area nor in the waiting areas (there were signs but no one, including employees, complied) and I noticed the pagers were not disinfected between customers. read more

I have used this dealership for servicing my Toyota for 10 years, and have been satisfied until my recent visit a week ago. Like the June 6th review by Amber, I too, was very disappointed by the lack of fidelity that employees were following mask protection and safe social distancing. Masks were hanging off below the chin, or clipped to lanyards. They do have a screen for the cashier, but she isn't wearing a mask. Charles Engelfried emailed me after I responded to their survey and I wrote a detailed response to my concerns. I have not heard anything more. This dealership started out by going out of their way to keep in touch when looking for our truck (also the only dealership that found it). The original guy I worked with was out when we got there but another rep (Zach Bayer) stepped up and was amazing. We probably would have waited on the purchase if it wasn't for him being so awesome to work with and easy/fun to talk to. Loses a star just because I felt like a few parts of the process could have been avoided (we had outside financing and that was known but still did the finance with us song/dance). One of the worse sales support experiences. Do not be deceived my their initial friendly disposition as some of the sales reps will tell lies without a flinch. I was purchasing a vehicle from Seattle so i understood transactions could be a bit more complicated. The sales rep, Gavin, indicated this would not be an issue as long as I payed a down payment and sign all paper work. As requested, l made a down payment to hold a car while we worked out completing the paperwork. Within 3 days, Gavin said he was unable to hold the car and that someone was going to purchase the car. To say the least, i was frustrated since this was not what he had initially communicated to me but I understood the circumstances that they needed to sell the car and it was taking me some time to get all paper work completed. The next day Gavin calls back and notifies me that the car did not actually sell and that it was still available. I told him that i was still interested on the condition that he ensures be the car is held for the next 24 hours while we complete all the paper work. He assured me he would hold it. Within the next 4 hours from our phone convo, i provided him all information for the paperwork. I try calling him to make sure everything is going smoothly with the processing of the paperwork. He texts me yes he has everything he needs. I ask for status after a couple hours and he responds that he's been very busy all day. I understood and decided to just call him the next day. Next day I call him multiple times without luck. I finally ask to be transferred to his manager. This is when Gavin then answers the phone. He tells me that he sold the car. I called his manager to explain the circumstances and see if he could rectify the issue or at least ensure that this behavior (sales reps making promises they are unable to keep) does not happen again. I received no communication from his manager since. This example displays what is wrong with our society in that businesses believe they can treat people with such disrespect and dishonesty. What happened to doing business with strong morals and integrity? I strongly encourage you to purchase your vehicle at a different location to condone these types of business practices.
