This was my first time here and I'm new to the city. Customer service was good. Food was good. But the price of food is not worth the taste or amount you receive. This place has really set the bar high for seafood restaurants. It is not only a restaurant but a seafood market as well. I ordered the Cod dinner with collard greens and waffles fries. It was some of the best I have had. It was all fresh (as the name states). I could not decide on how I wanted my cod prepared, so I got one of each. One fried and one baked. They were both delicious and did not last long. However, it I was backed in a corner and had to pick one, I would go with the fried. The collard greens were equally delicious. seasoned perfectly. I also ordered a side of their gator bites for later. I know I keep repeating myself, but man were they good. The common theme here is deliciously good food. I only had to wait about 15 minutes for my food, which I did in my car. After about 15 minutes, they brought my food out to my car with a smile. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. They have a nice sized parking lot and they are not having dining in at the moment so that recommend that you call ahead and place your order. You can also place your order online, but they said that they were having problems with that. I am really looking forward to returning here and highly recommend this place to get your seafood fix. read more

Amazing fried grouper dinner, hush puppies to die for... Literally, would request as my last meal. Had fried okra and red beans and rice. My wife had the Cajun fries and colored greens. Everything was amazing. Sides were not an after thought, but a compliment to the meal. Preferred the chipotle aioli sauce to the remoulade, but both were great! This old woman and her old husband had to back for seconds. We ate at the AMP where Caplingers has a spot. Little disappointed they didn't have Tilapia, but Salmon was delicious. Collard Greens were tantalizing! Not too Spicey and not greasy. I usually don't like anyone's green beans, but my own. But I have met my match. This place is amazing! Its been in a few years and we finally thought to give it a try last night. I purchased the fish and shrimp dinner. I got green beans (best Ive ever had) and red beans and rice as the side. The shrimp were a little chewy and the red beans and rice are hard to eat how they have it packaged but otherwise tasted incredible.They put rice in a small cup with red beans on top of it. But to mix it up or try to get a bite of both at the same time is difficult and it ends up spilling all over the place. Caplinger's offers the nostalgia of dining in an old Pizza Hut building painted blue and yellow with a variety of fresh fish caught daily in local White River (or at least it seems that fresh). Immediately upon entering, I noticed an old office chair rolled up to one of the booths. Now this may seem like an odd thing to mention in a review, but when you see something out of place like this in a restaurant it is a really good sign, because it means the food is so good that no one cares. Most people probably don't even realize they're sitting inside a 1980's Pizza Hut when they're elbow deep in fried walleye and hush puppies. I had a big plate of fried grouper with clam chowder. We bought seafood from the northside store before and it's always good so we tried the south side store in Greenwood because we were down that way. Chef Mitch was incredible! Caplinger's is my absolute favorite place to eat! We have been going to the movie theatre down that way and this location is perfect for us to grab lunch. I have definitely missed coming here to eat. The Caplinger's special is my favorite. I get it fried. I have been trying to cut back, but it's hard to not get it since it is cooked just perfectly. It is so crisp and tasty and the fish is the perfect flavor. The okra is my favorite and they even have had my favorite round fries. I also tried the corn bread the last time we were there and it was very good. My aunt really enjoyed the clam chowder and I loved the sugar cream pie. Caplinger's never disappoints. I have been glad to be able to stop in for lunch. This location isn't as big as Whitestown, but they do have some tales. They can be busy near meal time. First, know that they will not accept their Discoverindy coupons. Their posted sign said that the coupons were published without their consent, however, after talking to Discover Indy, that is not true. Also, the cashier there said that the coupons were costing them too much. That said, My husband & I had their whiting dinner with chipotle slaw and mac and cheese. The sides were served in small plastic lidded cups. They were ok, but nothing fantastic. The hushpuppies were sweet, and about the diameter of a nickle. The fish wasn't bad or good, just so-so. Where to begin! The food has a bit higher price tag but you're getting fresh fish in central Indiana! Cmon now! Food was delish, I had the Caplingers Fish Sandwich and it was cooked perfectly with amazing flavor! The workers were friendly and pointed us in the direction of the cornbread and that did not disappoint! Sitting here now after a couple days, my mouth is watering. My wife had the grilled salmon sandwich and her taste buds are on high alert (she's nine months pregnant) and she raved about how delicious it was! My son was playing with an airplane in the back corner of the parking lot, and before you go after me about being a bad dad, his grandfather was with him and it was deserted and safe! The first time I ate here and I got the lobster roll that is heated with cheese and onions and peppers. I took off the onions and peppers because I like the flavors they add, just don't like eating them. The lobster roll filling was loaded with nice hunks of lobster and the bun was perfectly toasted. We got some Cajun smoked salmon dip. Very tasty. Clam chowder that has HUGE pieces of meat. Oh my goodness. Needed a little salt, but who cares! Shrimp po-boy was great. Fish dinner. Excellent. Breading on the shrimp and fish was how I like it. Very well seasoned and not too thick. Crab cake was good, but a little too much flier for my liking. (This location is not currently letting customers dine in so this is a review of their take out) My family and I had been wanting to try Caplinger's for a while, we were so glad when a location decided to come to the South Side! When we first entered we were immediately greeted but the very nice gentleman behind the seafood counter. Explained that they are able to get nearly any requested seafood in there by request in just a day or so and offered us a sample of the oysters. The seafood looked extremely fresh and they had the largest shrimp and oysters I had ever seen in Indiana. The prices were high but the quality looked to match. There were a number of prepared items available for sale as well that all looked delicious. After the intro to the market portion of the restaurant we approached the food counter to order. Our total for all the pictured food (no drinks) came to just over $50. We waited in the car for about 25 minutes to get our food delivered out to us so I highly recommend ordering ahead and picking it up. The melts were VERY cheesy, on a what appeared to be a pretzel roll, and super delicious. There was no lack of seafood on them and everything tasted fresh. The hush puppies weren't too crisp (but that could have been from the take out container) and were slightly sweet with corn kernels...my favorite! The sandwich and po'boy were also delicious! I can't wait to go back to try more food (like the squid steak!) and order some fresh seafood to cook at home! read more

I've been a few times this year but didn't think to take pics yet. So far I've always called ahead or ordered online and taken the food to go. Everything has been great, and I love that it's all so freshly caught/grilled. The inside has several dining areas but would tend to be loud during a busy time so for me taking it to go is best but if you don't mind a louder ambience then it's very convenient to just eat there. A seafood market on the south side of Indy--too much to ever hope for. It's almost like living in Florida. Whatever you want in fish and seafood you can get it here. I love being able to get Red Snapper. They have a little set of recipes they gladly share or they will cook your purchase for you. There is also carry out or dine-in (a few booths) service and an area for dining outside when weather permits. Ask for their Clam Chowder not the frozen in the case, it's great with huge chunks of clam. The variety of pie slices includes Key Lime and Hoosier Sugar Cream plus Gooey Sugar Cookies. The staff is friendly, helpful and always glad to offer suggestions. There is a rewards program also. read more

I really enjoyed the hushpuppies and Mac n cheese. I disnt care for the pretzel bun. I had got the special, fried on a bun. Just me I wouldn't have it again. Just because of the bun and the tartar sauce. Tartar sauce taste sweet or off. Just doesn't taste like tartar sauce I've had before. I definitely want to try the coconut shrimp or pooboy next time. The staff treats you like family when you walk in and although I am not personally a fan of seafood- it isn't overwhelming like you would think, actually quite pleasant! Love this place! If what you want is not on the menu, they can most likely can make it for you in the kitchen, due to the super awesome fish market on the premises. They will cook it and you can eat it there or they will cook it for you to take home. If you get a chance, try the raw filets of "grouper fingers" from the market. I pan fry them in a little butter and whatever seasonings I happen to grab out of the spice cabinet. But my favorite thing to add is Bang Bang sauce in a bottle from Aldi's. Oh. My. Goodness.
