I stop here once in a while. They custom cakes look really unique. I would come here more often but they have an old man soliciting at the door which is very repulsive. Today I came to order a bagel with cream cheese. I didn't have issues with their employees here before. Today, however, one of the ladies with an iphone watch who took my order was rude. She looked very offended and unhappy. I don't know if this is because I spoke English to her. She wore a glove on one hand only. As my bagel was toasting she took cash from a customer and rang the register. Then with the same UNGLOVED hand she took my bagel, flipped it and started working on it. I don't know if she realizes that bakery is tiny and that she's three feet across me and that I can clearly see everything. I also asked for a coconut macaroon and was told that they don't have it. I was about to show her where they are when other ladies told her in spanish that they do indeed have them. Then she mumbled some name for the macaroon in spanish and went to get it. Well, it's called MACAROON in English. Overall nothing special. Pastries are way too sweet, flavorless and tasteless. They chocolate covered strawberries don't taste like chocolate at all. They taste like cheap substitute of cocoa. Bagels are just ok. They are not authentic New York bagels. They taste like commercial packaged steamed bagels you would buy in the supermarket. It's just not the same. I had a cake, tres leches to be exact at a friends birthday party like 3 years ago and I was hooked! So for my birthday every year since, I had to have it! And did! Yummy, moist tres leches with that milky sweetness.... then topped off with FRESH SWEET FRUIT!!! Fluffy Whipped cream icing.. Due to an unforeseen circumstance with our original baker, my wife and I decided to order our wedding cake from Capri. We decided to use Capri because of how close they were to our home and because we had wedding planning fatigue after our original baker was no longer available. Honestly, we weren't expecting much from an East Harlem neighborhood bakery. We were very wrong for making that assumption. The wedding cake looked like it could have come from an exclusive wedding cake baker and we received many complements from those that tried it. I've always remembered ordering their pan caliente ever since I was a little girl. Definitely good stuff! As for their pastries, I would say go elsewhere. Came here tonight and ordered a churro, pound cake, and un postre de queso which were all pretty hard and bland with the exception of the cake. Some of the best coffee I have ever had! The only reason I give it four stars is that I find the staff a little intimidating and rude in moments. Also, the way the place is built, it is difficult in moments to find where one line ends and the other begins. For the second time in a row I've commissioned Capri to make my grandbaby's birthday cake. It was wonderful again. The last cake was particularly nice b/c they only had a week to make it. When the donuts are warm...OMG! so delish. I also have tried the bread pudding and tres leches and they were both really yummy.

Their sugar donut is the best in the neighborhood and my friends and coworkers loves them. The bread (pan) is nice and soft with a little sweetness, great with jamón y huevo con queso or just by itself. Ordered a cake with guava and it was a hit at my son's birthday party. Tried a few other baked goods, some are good and some are not so good. Stick to the donuts, pan and the birthday cakes you can't go wrong. I'm updating my review after experiencing one of the worst customer-business interactions ever. I came in today to order two things, coffee and toasted bread with butter. The lady behind the counter that was assisting me, who stated her name was Claudia, was beyond rude. I asked to have my usual coffee with milk made with just a bit more expresso than the usual for a little more kick. My only guess is that she was already having a bad morning because my request got her off to a rant. She sighted deeply and turned to me to said that that's not "light and sweet" and that instead this should be order as "dark and sweet". I told her that I know the difference between the two but that I was looking to have my coffee today somewhere in between the two and that all I wanted a bit more splash of coffee. She then went on a rant in Spanish this time, about how "people have to be put in their place" and that customer "shouldn't think that they can make their own menu". Hmmm what?? (Little did she know, I know Spanish). Well I couldn't stand it anymore, and so I told her off about her very unprofessional comments, her sharp temper and the need for her to not be frustrated so easily by a simple request. It's was a terrible interaction to have specially so early in the morning. I'll be voicing my experience to the manager when the week rolls in. As of now, I don't plan on returning to this place and will rather put up with the wait at Love Cafe for much better coffee and excellent service. read more

It was my cousin Trayvon's 15th birthday and his parents gave him a get together with family and a few close friends...I came over and participated and ate a piece of cake! I couldn't believe how creamy and moist the cake was! the Birthday cake was a larger "Oreo and Strawberry" yellow cake with Oreos and chocaolate that tasted like mousse inside! the Streawberries were big and tasty and the Frosting was sweet but, (not to sweet) and very, very, creamy and soft! I had never tasted a cake so delicious in my life and I am a cake eater! My birthday was coming up and I had to have that exact cake! I ordered a cake for a work event. It's a cake that they normally have in one of the cases in the front of the bakery (marble cake). I placed an order because I wanted it freshly made. I picked up the cake this morning at 7:55 am and there was a rotted strawberry on top. Without skipping a beat, the counter woman goes to the back and replaces it with a different strawberry. Now I am freaking out about cutting the cake and serving it. I should not have accepted the cake and that is my fault but I will not return to this bakery again. I can't trust that their products are freshly made (except for the bread that has a very high turnover). I am so disappointed because I like to support neighborhood businesses but I am noticing that the ingredients, final product and customer service is completely inferior and sub par. Ordered (& paid in full) a TRES LECHES cake for a Corporate Event for 50 people. Picked up the Cake the next day after waiting 20mins at the bakery for them to give me the cake. Get to the event and the caterers cut cake. It is not the TRES LECHES cake we ordered and paid for. It was a plain yellow cake with caramel filling. I've had the Tres Leches cake from here before and know what and how it's supposed to look. I came in to the bakery to order the cake...I was given a price and I paid it...IN FULL??! I was transfered to someone else, who was a bit helpful and understood my question. He said a manager would call me back that day...NO ONE CALLED ME BACK and it's MONDAY! I then called back today and the person i speak to just hangs up on me. I call back the another woman answers and they keep flipping the phone between them and eveytime someone comes on the phone and says ' hello..one moment, one moment'. Finally i speak to someone who says the owner is not there.I ask for their number they won't give it to me. I ask for them to contact the owner for them to call em back today and she says she'll try. In the same breath she tells me that they will say nothing can be done because we shoudlve brought the cake back. I was like...ARE YOU SERIOUS??!!Bring a cake back when we are in the middle of a corporate event for my BOSS and you want me to bring it back? My parents have been coming here since forever and now I come here as well. Omg, it's still the same! The pastries are the best compared to any other bakery I've gone to. If I could give less than 1 star I would. My sister ordered a cake for a surprise babyshower. She went to pick up the cake and it was a Christening cake that looked NOTHING like the original design of the cake she chose and besides that the artwork on it was horrible. The manager said he would have the cake by the next day and it was an accident he seemed really apologetic but the next day she went to pick it up at 9PM (which gave them all day to prepare the cake) and guess what? THE CAKE WASN'T DONE...they said they didn't have the design. So the whole day went by and they didn't even call her to let her know so she can try and make arrangements to do something else. So she asked for her money and back and guess what? THEY TOLD HER NO REFUNDS and she had to literally fight to get her money back. WOOOOOWWWWW the baby shower was postponed and we are NEVER going back to this place. I ordered my son a Thomas the Train cake for his 3rd birthday. I was initially told that the price would be $65 until I told the lady that I wanted it to be tres leche flavor. She then told me that it would be $15 more which would make it $80. I accepted because I think tres leches flavor is well worth it! I also asked for specific colors on the cake. When we opened up the cake, it was beautiful! But after we sang Happy Birthday and started to cut the cake, I noticed it was very dry. There clearly was no moisture to the cake at all. I was so very disappointed because I paid the extra and got nothing. I video tapes the cutting of the cake to show that there was no moisture and called the bakery right away. I was told to bring in a slice the next morning and speak with the owner. So, I went there next morning with the cake and explained to the morning crew what had happened. They were arguing with me about the prices. They said that this cake costs $70 and $10 extra for tres leches. I asked them to go get their copy of thw receipt because they did not give my husband a receipt after he paid the rest of what was owed, at the time of pick-up. She said that they did not hold on to the receipts and instead, throw them away. After repeating the whole ordering experience and even describing who I made the order with, they finally believed me and told me to wait for the owner. Owner arrives and immediately the lady tells him what happened and shows him thw cake. He, without hesitation, told her to refund me back the $15. I then confronted him to thank him and he was very understanding and nice. He explained that he had a new kitchen staff and they were somewhat new to the recipes. I figured that had to be the problem since I always order from Capri and have always been satisfied. After seeing his reaction to the situation, I will continue to come here for my special occasion cakes. However, I would suggest to the owner that his staff give receipts upon receiving payments each and every time. And also, keep a receipt for their record at the bakery too. read more
