This was our second time going. The first time was bad. We had ordered a wrap and the tortilla had mold on it. Nevertheless, we wanted to give it a second chance since it's in such a convenient location. Our appetizer came before our drinks even got to the table. Let me start by saying they love their MAYO!!!! Starters the crab dip was a chunk of cream cheese on top with a few pieces of crab meat loaded with Mayo on top of the hardest roll I've ever had to eat. I really could've used a chainsaw to cut it. The Chesapeake chicken had sliced cheese melted on top with no flavor to the chicken that was gristle on bottom. Not going back or recommending. Waitress was pleasant. read more

Oxford has a new destination restaurant and it is Capsize. They have changed to a steak house venue and it is comparable to any of their New York "competitors". The steak choice is fantastic and one of the real surprises is the offering of short ribs. They easily meet even the highest expectations. Their sides are equally full of flavor and special recognition needs to assigned to their potatoes au gratin. They have a perfect infusion of flavors and texture that keep you coming back for the next bite. Restaurants that are pricey create high expectations for quality and the dining experience. We used to look forward to eating at this restaurant when in Oxford but that was the past. We were there last weekend and ordered what we usually order, fish and chips. Wow, they were little breaded pieces that were like eating fishy McDonald's chicken nuggets. My wife and I kicked ourselves afterwards for not sending them back but did complain to the waitress. Atmosphere is great but don't get the lobster roll - it's made with imitation lobster meat!!!

Capsize used to be a family favorite restaurant of ours, but after new ownership the food is so low quality and not the same at all. Sad to see the same meals we loved on the menu, turn out to be something totally different and much worse. For example, the shrimp tacos, lobster roll, and fish and chips. Can definitely say we will not going to Capsize much or possibly at all the rest of the summer. read more

Not terribly excited about Capsize. It is not an establishment for fine or even semi-fine dining. While I had no expectation of white linen dining, I was expecting a better experience than what I had. I had the Calamari appetizer. Admittedly, Calamari is a very difficult dish to prepare and was not prepared properly. It was rubbery, not really chewy but rubbery. Tells me it was overcooked in the deep fryer. The main dish, Scallops and risotto, the scallops were undercooked. They were not successfully seared off and still had a bit of a milky white hue. Seafood dishes are one of the hardest dishes to get correct, and unfortunately these missed the mark. I ordered a Cosmopolitan drink. It was too watered down. I asked the wait staff to bring another and it was equally as deficient. It tasted like the bar tender just added more cranberry as it was more tart, but I could taste no Vodka at all and a Cosmopolitan, like a Kamikaze, is equal parts of Vodka and Cranberry, and orange liqueur. I did not send the second one back. The outside dining was fine, nice ambiance lighting. However, the main indoor dining room was empty and they had every interior bright light on which overflowed to the outdoor seating area, kind of killing the outdoor dining vibe. I think Capsize might be a good place for an afternoon burger and brew, but it's really not a great place for dinner. As a side, I do not understand why the bar patrons sit with their backs to the river. Seems like a miss to me, although I'm not a bar fly kind of person. I do wonder if it's under new ownership or management because in the past when I dined here, I did not have the same experience. Very nice and accommodating waitstaff, beautiful views of Oxford, great food. It's got modern decor, plenty of seating, shading for the whole outdoor area. The restaurant also appears to be easily accessible by wheelchair or crutches (not stairs to enter the main way) - kudos! We came here for lunch on a Saturday and sat outside. The views are great and the restrooms and decor throughout looked as though they had been recently renovated. Service was attentive without being ingratiating. The orange & grapefruit crushes are delicious (and not light-weight either). The highlight was the buffalo chicken flatbread appetizer special. Salads are good portioned, but plating could be improved (almost looked like take-out food). People in my party ordered the crab cake sandwich, which looked very appetizing. Today I had the pleasure of touring the eastern shore. Oxford was one of the towns we visited. We had hope I'd dining at Capsize. Terrible mistake!!! We seated ourselves on the outside patio. There were two families sitting out there waiting to get their food and we were waiting for the waitress to come over with menus and to order drinks. Three guest come in after me and my friend. The waitress goes over to them and take their order and brings their drinks back to them and take their food order! Still no one comes to our table! Another waitress comes over to clean a table next to us, never acknowledge us! My friend is about to go and get someone to take our order. I stop him because at this point there is greeters, waitresses and bartenders standing around talking . It's not like the restaurant was full to capacity that we wouldn't be seen! I waited a tad bit longer to see if someone would come over... as you would have it no service! Furious is an understatement! As we're leaving the young ladies at the front starting snickering and laughing! I would hate to believe that race was a factor but it leaves me no other choice but to believe that it was!!! I guess it's safe to say ...Racism at an all time high!!! We dined at Robert Morris Inn and the greeters we're friendly and welcoming!!! The service was excellent along with food!!!! Went in on a Friday night, around 7. It was a beautiful night, so the outdoor seating was relatively full. The host staff was friendly and had a table ready for us after a brief wait. That's where the good experience ended. Our server was scattered and appeared overwhelmed. (While the deck was busy, it seemed to be well staffed and without large parties.) We ordered tea, it tasted sour. We had the crab dip with soft pretzel. There wasn't nearly enough bread for the crab dip, but it was a non issue as the crab dip wasn't very good. Overly cheesy, under crabbed. I had fish and chips. It was bland, and overcooked. My husband had a crab cake sandwich. Being from the area, we know a good crab cake. This was not it... There was an insane amount of mayonnaise in the cake and it had a mushy texture. We waited forever to pay, as our server continued to walk past us and ignore our table. If you want good food and service, Capsize is not the place to go. I miss the old Schooners. At least they made edible food... Save yourself and just go to Docs down the street instead. read more

This is our second visit to the newly open Capsize, which used to be Schooners. The first visit, we were impressed with the food, but the service needed a lot of work. I decided not to post a review at that time, but to wait until we came back. I have to say, so far, the service is great! Brittany, our server, was friendly and efficient, didn't hover, but was there when needed. I had the chicken club bruschetta. She didn't bat an eye when I requested that she skip the bun, skip the fries, and add a side of Caesar salad. I attached a photo. My companion asked which was better: the special (a lobster roll) or the crab cake sandwich? You can see a photo of the lovely crab cake sandwich. I cannot recall the last time I felt compelled to write a review, but this experience warranted one. We came on a busy Friday night, at the beginning of the dinner rush. We were quickly seated at a table. Waitstaff appeared to be plentiful but it took a little while for someone to take our order. As other reviews have mentioned, the restaurant view is fantastic, and the decor is trendy. The restaurant seems to have been updated when management changed within the past 2 years or so. The food was good, if a bit pricey. To be fair, I would expect an up-charge for the location alone. The reason for this review, however, has to do with the bartender (possibly owner/manager?) and his customer service skills. I ordered a mixed drink. I took a small sip and stirred it, and then I saw that it had arrived with a bug floating in it. I understand that when you have an outside bar, things happen. I pointed out the bug and requested that the drink be replaced. The waitress apologized and whisked the drink away. So far, so good. My husband watched the waitress bring the drink back to the bar, where the bartender/manager was standing. He took the drink, rolled his eyes, poured the drink into a mixing cup, and then poured the drink straight back into the original glass. The waitress then brought this "new" drink back to me. I chose not to imbibe the drink. We requested that the hostess remove the drink from our bill, which she fortunately did (without expression and without comment). Previous reviews have mentioned a bartender screaming at people. I didn't witness the screaming, but I did see plenty of signs that the waitstaff were scared and stressed. Our poor young waitress was obviously terrified of management and was just trying to do her best. It gave me an ugly feeling to know that I had given some of my hard-earned money to a business person who treats customers and staff poorly. I was just a passing tourist in Oxford, so I can't choose to spend my money at other local restaurants/businesses all the time. But perhaps someone will read this review and choose to dine elsewhere, and it will be one less meal and one less dollar that this disrespectful individual will earn. read more
