I did not expect great things from a Cajun/creole style restaurant in fort Lee so it was a surprise when I left the restaurant wanting to go back the next day. I've celebrated my birthday in a casual way with my friends at Cap't Loui twice and always enjoyed the food. I am a big seafood lover and have tried seafood boils a number of places and Cap't Loui's is a local favorite. The Louisiana Hot and garlic noodles are my go to with lobster mussels and shrimp. Yesterday (04/28) I called in for their lunch special and the portion size had changed drastically from the last time (maybe a month ago). I got about 5 mussels and 4 shrimp very little compared to the portions I've come to know. Not sure if this was a 1 time occurrence but I was a little disappointed i once I got back home. Other than that recent flop the servers are always nice, the place is nice (they are renovating!) there is street parking and the food is delicious! read more

It is nice that there is a Louisiana boil on the Jersey side. I'm not sure if this was better than The Boil in nyc. It has been years since I've been back there. My one complaint is that they don't devein their shrimps. I can't recall if The Boil did as I was still young and immature back then. I've only recently learned about this, and really is not that difficult. Whatever the case, I still ate them and am still alive... at least up to my last review. I had the combo A with sausages all to myself. It was a little bit of a struggle to finish all of it. It was definitely worth sharing with a person. I'm from Texas. I'm quite familiar with Cajun seafood. This place is legit good! I went for lunch and got 2 specials just for me. Crawfish was fresh and flavored hot with Louisiana kick. The garlic noodles were on point! I even added some crawfish sauces to it. The fried shrimp was good sized, crunchy! I dipped it into my crawfish juices for an added pop. Cajun fries were crisp. Better than the big M... jambalaya was oh so tasty! Each bite was so flavorful with sausage, chicken, tomatoes, onions, a nice spice... staff is super friendly. Now, being from Texas, I'm spoiled with the local and cheap prices. I was a bit sticker shocked and hopefully they have specials in the future or loyalty coupons? next time (oh yeah, you bet there will be a next time) I want the snow crabs, maybe dungenous and definitely a lobster! I don't know what happened with this place. I ordered when it first opened. At that time, food was fresh and sauce flavor was great. I just ordered to go recently and flavor is completely changed, sadly not in a good way. Spicy Sauce is way way way too sweet in my opinion and food wasn't that fresh. A unique dining experience with a rush of exciting flavors. Expect to spend more if you want to be full. They give you gloves and a bib, but eating can get a bit iluncomfeotabe, as the food is really hot and requires your hands for peeling. Otherwise, great flavors and quality overall. I don't recommend the crawfish, they don't yield much meat, and can be tiresome to peel. read more

My new favorite Cajun Boil in Fort Lee. I went last week. My favorite boil restaurant was closed for renovations and I found Cap't Loui on Yelp. It's BYOB and my waitress said there was a liquor store around the block...it took me 15 min with my map and asking for help. This was my only negative experience, lack of proper directions to a hidden liquor store. I ordered shrimp with the Cajun sauce and garlic noodles. The sauce is excellent, very garlicky and well seasoned. The garlic noodles weren't the best I've had but were very delicious. Parking can be challenging and but with patience it's well worth it. Not the best Cajun style restaurant I've been to. Did not have any of the mud bugs but my boyfriend claimed they were delicious. The spices in the bag were tasty, but could have been spicier as he requested the hottest of hot and it wasn't as hot as we would have hoped. Least favorite thing was the fried calamari that we purchased. I've noticed that lately I haven't been able to find a place that actually makes good fried calamari. Unfortunately this spot wasn't an exception. The calamari was not completely battered as I prefer them to be and not as crunchy. A bit on the chewy side and once I have a piece I'm chewing longer than gum I usually toss the rest to the side as I know I'm not going to try another. The fries were just okay claimed to be Cajun fries but just tasted like regular frozen fries from the bag sprinkled with generic "Cajun" spices. I ordered the jambalaya which was good. Had a nice flavor but also nothing out of this world. As far as coming back, I don't seem hopeful about it but who knows maybe I'll give it a second chance. read more

The Louisiana sauce medium seemed to be a popular choice with the rest of our friends who had been there so we got the same. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. We also ordered a side of the garlic noodles ($4) which I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend. It is the perfect combination to drown those deliciously garlicky noodles in that mouthwatering sauce. Another surprise winner was the funnel cake fries with vanilla ice cream ($10). UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE. I'm usually not a fan of funnel cake but these were cooked so well, crunchy on the outside and chewy in the inside, I had to ask the manager if there was mochi inside them! (There is not.) Got refunded but still cant help it. Im so angry the snowcrab and shrimp with capt loui sauce was horrible today. Ordered it to go for our anniversary and it ruined it. It tasted exactly like it was leftover that got frozen over night and be reheated. Sauce slimey bland tasteless separated.. Pieces of red chill oil all over disgusting. The seafood itself is not fresh at all. Its not the cooks' fault! Its owner's fault for being cheap and not staffing the kitchen enough! Owner pls hired another cook and stop making these guys pre make food for the rush and leftover not sold to be frozen overnight and reheated next day esp for togo customers. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT come to Loui Loui and order the garlic butter sauce. COME TO LOUI LOUI TO ORDER THE LOUISIANA SAUCE .... or the lemon pepper because that was good too. The garlic butter is actually the base for all the sauces, so you'll get enough of that in there. I loved it here. I came to celebrate my dad's birthday and everything about my experience was fantastic. The service was amazing, they were very helpful and attentive. They even gave my dad a birthday dessert on the house! The Louisiana sauce is very tasty. I've been to other boils on the East Coast and this is my favorite so far. If you can handle your spice, go for medium or hot. I love spicy food but I do wish I got mild because it got a little too spicy for me. The price is a little on the expensive side, but I don't expect anything less for seafood. The mussles+clams+shrimp+crawfish combo is perfect for a party of 2 or 3. Came here specifically for the live crawfish. Wasn't disappointed. Crawfish was tender, a little bland with medium hot Louisiana but dip it into the sauce saves the day. They don't give out noodles anymore so we ordered it in the bag, it absorbed all the flavors and was very spicy. We also have the east oyster on special ($1). Very fresh. Metered parking lot on the back. Only dock one star for the value of noodles and corn, they're all tasty but a bit pricey for the portion. read more

This place is LIT! Came in here yesterday with a giant group (maybe 25 people), and they were so accommodating. First off, the customer service is fantastic. Since this place is new, the only thing we knew about the menu was that it was a seafood boil. The waiter basically ordered for us giving us a "sample" of everything, and he was seriously SO spot on about everything we could have wanted. Our waters were full throughout the meal (which is critical since cajun style food is usually pretty spicy and salty), and they were very attentive to our large group, even though it was probably super overwhelming for them. Second, the food was awesome. We had the assorted seafood boil (craw fish, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatoes, corn, and noodles) as well as a lobster in garlic butter sauce. I'm personally not a huge fan of cajun style food, so I prefferred the lobster in the lemon garlic sauce. We also ordered a basket of fish and chips, fried calamari, and wings. The fish and chips were steaming hot when it came out, and the batter was SO crispy and delicious. I highly recommend! As well as the fried calamari and wings, I have absolutely no complaints, except that they should serve a side of marinara with the calamari. I'm not sure if they usually do and they just forgot because of how crazy it was, and we should have asked, but we got lazy. Overall, it's an experience. The food is great, the staff is friendly, and if you randomly have a craving for seafood boil, I say go! Because it's seafood, it's going to be on the higher end of the price spectrum. Loui Loui is a welcome addition to the neighborhood - it's definitely different from the typical Fort Lee restaurant and I hope it's here to stay. The restaurant itself, in terms of décor, is no frills. If you're here, you're here for the food, not for fancy ambiance. Expect that things will get messy, but that's exactly how things should be; plus, they provide you with a bib and gloves. Onto the food... we ordered a dozen oysters and a boil bag of King crab, shrimp, noodles and potatoes with mild Louisiana sauce. Everything in the bag was completely drenched in the sauce, so very flavorful and tasty. The sauce was the highlight of the meal - they definitely got it right and it makes everything taste 10x better. The oysters were good too and reasonably priced. Overall: I highly, highly recommend getting the Louisiana sauce and as a side, go for the noodles for sure. Things to note: + The bathroom has lemon slices that you can use to get rid of any lingering scents on your hands + The oysters only come with lemon and cocktail sauce, but you can also request vinegar + They provide you with crackers (to open the shells) and seafood forks, but everything is already prepped and cut perfectly for you - you honestly just need some hand strength + The sauce is really tasty, flavorful and well-spiced, but the sodium content can be overwhelming after a while (at least that's how I felt) * They're currently having a promotion where if you either share the business on Facebook or tag/follow them in an Instagram photo, you can get 50% off one of their combos (one per table) read more
