So this is an update for what is now called Capt Loui and not Loui Loui. Since my last visit, I have to say, what a nice improvement. The happy hour menu here is a good one. The appetizers are on point. I had fried calamari and cajun fries and loved it, although they just served it with ketchup, no special sauce or marinara, its still really good. I got some fried shrimp to go, and they were good too. (F.Y.I)- The appetizer specials are less amount of food, from a regular order of fried calamari or the fried shrimp, is what I was told. The vibe of the place is cool, espcially now since they got their liquor license, and their drink selections are very good. Im still not that crazy about all of the food they have like the garlic noodles, (still the worst I had) not a fan of the way they make theirs. Its like I was eating thin spaghetti noodles. The corn and potato is good but it needs to be bigger I mean come on if Im gonna pay a pretty penny for your food then Im gonna need a decent size corn and potato, the portion they gave me, my 8 year old would be upset by it. As for their sauce, its a lil better then before, but still not my fav. So I would say Im a fan. Capt Loui is now in my top 10 of choices to visit for good vibes and seafood. There are a couple of boil spots in NYC but I definitely think Loui Loui manages to stand out. Their lemon pepper sauce is so flavorful pared with whatever seafood you choose, you keep going back to dip back into the sauce! What's more, they have noodles as a side option which is like seasoned linguine. You take those noodles and just mixit in the sauce and you have mouth watering pasta. That pasta at the end was one of the favorite parts of my meal, and I must say is quite addicting. Even though I was stuffed at the end of the meal I felt like I had to try the funnel cake fries and I was not disappointed! Wow the funnel cake fries were soooo good! fried to perfection you can eat like french fries, dipping it in chocolate sauce or the vanilla ice cream--I was hooked!!! The perfect ending to the meal! I had been craving soft-shell crab for a while, and the one I had was ideal But I am writing because of the service. Our group consisted of a cane-using 75 year old, a six-month old in a stroller, a three-year old needing a booster seat and three other adults. The staff could not have been more solicitous - they moved chairs around until everyone had the right seat, brought everything we needed, and were generally warm and welcoming on a busy Saturday night. So far I've visited this restaurant twice and I've left with a full stomach each time. I will say the service was extremely slow both times. Good thing I wasn't starving because I probably would've walked out. The first time I came during happy hour. I ordered the shrimp basket with "lemon pepper fries" and a glass of wine. The reason I put lemon pepper in quotation marks is because it was pretty much nonexistent. They tasted like regular degualr fries which was a little disappointing. You get a decent amount of shrimp for $7 so I really couldn't complain too much. The second time I came here was a Wednesday night. My friend and I each ordered a Shrimp boiler (shrimp, sausage, potatoes, garlic noodles and corn) and followed up with a shared dessert of their funnel fries with vanilla ice cream. Also had the broiler seafood, which is a mixture of seafood of your selection with special sauce. We chose they signature louisana sauce at med spicy level and it was wonderful! The shrimps and snow crab legs are meaty and firm. Two seafood comes with one side for free, and we asked for garlic noodles. It was fragrant and chewy on its own. Its a small place and always busy but its annoying raising my hand like a school kid just for more water and a fork (especially when my server is nearby tending to other tables). There was a piece of webbing (most likely from fishing) in the crawfish, which made the meal disgusting. At first I thought it was human hair, but it's texture was a hard, thin fiber that seemed knotted into the crawfish's abdomen. After voicing this issue, the server took this crawfish to examine with the manager. The manager shortly returned with 2 more pieces of crawfish to replace the crawfish returned with web, and offered no apology. Upon getting the check, I asked the server whether I could receive a small discount on my meal (I spent a total of $124). The manager came and instead of offering an apology or hear any feedback, argued that I was wrong and what I saw was not a piece of webbing stuck in the crawfish. So I politely asked him, if he could tell me what it was. The manager couldn't say either, and began educating me on the habitat of crawfish, and how things just happen to get stuck on their shells. He then proceeded to argumentatively educate me on how the seafood boil was boiled in 400F water ensuring all bacteria was killed. I simply wondered, whether he was joking or that he skipped chemistry class in high school and seriously thought that heat could kill anything including toxins from plastics and other synthetic materials. Indeed, nobody including himself knew what were those thin hard stands of fiber stuck in that crawfish, but I believe above all, it should be basic catering etiquette to treat your customers with respect, and not argue - but to seek a sound solution together. I have been a long loyal customer of capt loui in the past 4 years, and this has thrown a cloud over an otherwise very lovable franchise. Edit: I forgot to mention, I asked the manager when he tried arguing with me (in which he kept calling me "dude"), whether the kitchen washes the seafood. It seemed to trigger him, as he exclaims: " of course we do! We wash it very carefully!" I simply stared at him with a smile as he realized he undermined his own argument. I raised my brows and gave up in reasoning with someone who does not understand professionalism. He then finally offered to give me a free dessert but cannot offer a discount no matter what. This place is the best Louisiana style seafood me being a seafood lover even though I only eat certain things believe it or not this is definitely the place to try stuff you wouldn't normally eat in seafood places. I'm always one for honest reviews! We tried to go here a few nights ago and it was packed. We tried to make a booking. They do not take bookings for less than 5 people. They do not take bookings on weekends. For parties over 5 people they automatically add a 20% gratuity. Now that that's out of the way.. the food! I feel like the quality of seafood is impressive. They don't have a huge range of flavours, but we tried both the lemon pepper and the Louisiana which both were really really great. We got two boils with crab/shrimp/sausage.. kids tenders were great. Lastly, the servers are helpful.. but they are under the pump. The restaurant is BUSY and I feel they are always under a rush which means it's very very hard to get their attention. They seemed to keep their eyes down and their backs to you where you can.
