Captain Bob's took us out for a snorkel trip in Kaneohe Bay, and the sand bar. This was my first trip snorkeling, and it was awesome! The guide, Jenner, who transported us across the island to Kaneohe, was really funny. Once we got there, we got on a catamaran and went out towards the sand bar. They let you out to swim, play a game of water volleyball on the sand bar, and have a BBQ. Afterwards, we got back on the boat and went to the reef for snorkeling. It's basically a day trip, since you're there from the morning til late afternoon. read more

The whole experience was amazing! The team made everyone feel like family! Went to a sandbar, they bbq'd some burgers (which was super tasty!), took us to see some large turtles, then took us to a reef off of Kaneohe! I snorkeled with beautiful fish along a reef in the middle of the ocean -it was actually a 2 million year old crescent shaped volcanic crater that hasn't erupted in about 400,000 years (hope I remembered that right lol) they'll give you the history of it on the boat though. While I was snorkeling along the reef a HUGE TURTLE swam right towards me, I had to move out of the way it wasn't trying to bite me or anything. It was just swimming by :) but it was an experience I will never ever forget!!! Thank you to the entire boat crew for making our snorkeling adventure one to remember forever. We had a blast even in some pretty crappy weather! After living here for almost 4 years, I've never gotten around to checking out the sandbar. Since I had guests flying in for a week, I thought it was the perfect time to head out, but since none of us wanted to bother with renting a boat and getting a boating license I looked for other options and found Captain Bob's. I have to admit I was skeptical and gave a disclaimer to my guests assuming it might be catered to the cheesy touristy crowd, but all 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It ended up really cloudy and rainy during the snorkeling portion and at points we were all shivering, but even still we were smiling and having a blast throughout. Jenner had us laughing from the minute we met him and sang some little showtune style songs Hawaiian style while we ate, and Ryan was an awesome guide. Everyone on the crew was amazing, but we interacted most with the two of them. I go snorkeling fairly often, and the reef they took us to was awesome. We saw the biggest sea turtle I've ever run into in the water and it was the perfect depth to see things on the surface chilling on a pool noodle or choose to dive to check things out deeper. The food included with the ticket price was pretty good (cost-co brand burgers and chips) and they had beer and wine for sale for $5 a can which, whatever. Tourist prices. Yes, as some of the negative reviews state, the tour was mostly Japanese tourists, and we were packed on pretty tight on the boat, but it was kind of sweet being one of the few English speakers on the tour and the point of the trip isn't the boat ride out to the sandbar anyways. Plenty of room for all of us once we got in the water. Definitely worth the ticket price if you don't have long to explore the island or have visitors in town for a bit who haven't been to the sandbar. The view just can't be beat and without a way to rent a boat this is the perfect way to see it. The crew was definitely above and beyond what we expected. No over the top fake customer service personalities, super chill, super informative, and high energy even when the weather took a turn. Highly recommend. read more

My family and I took a trip to Hawaii, and decided to snorkel last minute. We booked a snorkeling trip with Captain Bob's through Aloha VIP Tours. The best decision we made the whole 6 days we were in Hawaii!! The bus ride from Waikiki to Kaneohe was pleasant & our tour guide, Jenner, was awesome. The crew (i really wish i remembered all of their names) on the boat that took us out to the Kaneohe Bay Sandbar, Turtle Reef, and Snorkeling Reef were so enthusiastic about their jobs & so so kind. They really made sure all of us were comfortable & safe during the whole entire trip. Not to mention, they make great hamburgers, lol. The complimentary lunch on the boat, in the middle of the Bay, was really good. My family and I's experience in Hawaii was amazing. We sailed with "bob" in early Sept 2014. The snorkeling was great and we saw lots of turtles. Only thing is....they left us! We hailed their second boat and they got ours to come back and pick us up. We are excellent swimmers and very comfortable in the water so we weren't scared. Just make sure they are looking for you to re board. Loved the crew and Jenner. Stuff happens. read more

$100 per person for a fun, relaxing day on a boat. The scenery in Kaneohe Bay is stupendous. Don't expect ambiance or privacy. The boat is a little like a ferry but it totally did what it needed to. The food was simple, filling and appropriate for the day. The time at the sand bar was like floating in a tub. Took some time for nice scrub while others had fun playing volleyball. Tour bus stop picked us up at the hotel and took us to the dock. We didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes to board. Jenner seems to have taken the notes about the cheesy dialogue; he was engaging and amiable without being over the top. I enjoyed the few songs he sung over lunch. The snorkeling and turtle watching were fun and light. We saw about 10 big turtles some while snorkeling. If you are an experienced reef snorkeler this may be too limited for you. read more

Basically they waste 6 hours of your day to snorkle in a crappy spot. Too many people snorkeling in the same area and the snorkeling spot was horrible, not too many tropical fish and the water was murky. I felt like I was in a lake. Definitely not what they advertise. Sandbar was cool but there is nothing to do but share one volleyball area with 75 people. The staff was friendly and is the only reason I'm giving two stars. I would not recommend this snorkeling tour to anybody. read more

Had a GREAT time out on the sail. Sandbar and beach volleyball were so fun, and the views going out are amazing. Saw sea turtles before and during snorkeling. Lunch was casual but good, and they have beer and wine for purchase as well. The crew was extremely nice, mostly young folks and very helpful. The bus drive up to the bay was interesting, the tour guide was a funny character... you might hear him do a Bill Clinton impression if he gave us his normal routine, and he talks about the highway system and the mountains and other trivia as you drive through the mountains. All in all it was a GREAT day. Just remember to bring lots of sunscreen and try to get one of those waterproof smartphone pouches so you can take some fun pictures/videos at the reef. read more

When my best friend Gabby and I went on this trip we sure didn't know what we were getting ourselves into, but we've never had so much fun in our lives. The crew were all so friendly, but Riley and Freddy were EXTRA helpful and really made the experience one to remember. Great day on the boat with beach / ocean volleyball on a sand spit in the middle of the ocean. We were fed grilled treats while floating through idealistic sea settings. Then we dove off a coral reef and swan with giant sea turtles. Staff were extremely friendly, entertaining and family oriented. Door to door service to and from Waikiki. I LOVED MY TRIP WITH CAPTAIN BOB'S! I went their a few weeks back, everyone was very informative and kind. They look out for everyone, even if you know how to swim. They always check to make sure you are safe and having a good time. You get to experience all different things like the sandbar, turtle sights, snorkeling, and even a little lunch on the boat. My family were really hoping to tip a good amount for their hard work, but sadly we only had very large bills and $1. So we gave only the $1 sadly. Captain Bob's is a WINNER. What a lasting memory of Hawaii!! Not only was the scenery everything that was described in the Yelp reviews, the best part may have been the crew. My mom got freaked out while snorkeling and they came along side her, calmed her down and then helped her discover a huge school of fish. They will teach you how to snorkel if you have never done it, they come check in on you to see if you are comfortable in the water. I was swimming with my 8 year old niece and they checked on us to make sure that we were both okay and gave her tips on how to best see in the water. The six of us had a blast. Captain Bob's snorkeling tour was by far our favorite tour and well worth the money! Standing in the middle of the ocean surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and the most incredible shades of blue ocean you've ever seen cannot be described in words or captured in pictures. The snorkeling was exceptional and we saw sea turtles and beautiful tropical fish around the coral reef. The staff was funny and friendly and lunch was absolutely delicious! The booking process was very simple and the included transportation by our hotel was a huge bonus, especially with the rental car and Uber shortage. I read one review that complained about staff walking around in tiny bikinis. You have to understand the culture there. You will see all different shapes and sizes in all different types of bikinis from locals and visitors alike. There were two women staff, one in a normal bikini and one in a long sleeve shirt and a thong. If this offends you, pick a different tour. Keep in mind, it's not our job to judge others, and you won't be able to go to ANY beach without seeing thong bikinis. We absolutely enjoyed every minute of this experience and would highly recommend it to others! read more

Great price for an all day trip. The two things I didn't like... 1.the tour guide who seems to like hearing his own voice on the mic. He did tell us about some of hawaii's history, but the majority of our trip, it was about random things that came to his mind at that moment. 2. The crew just got done talking about how we all have to play our part in protecting the environment, when one of the crew member decided to pour the left over bake beans we had overboard. Not only was that gross but unprofessional. We were dock so the bean was just there floating around us... Disgusting! You should not do those kinds of thing in front of your guess!!! read more

Had an awesome time! The sandbar was awesome, the burger was good, snorkeling great and the crew was very nice and attentive. They are very helpful and answer all of your questions. I wish we would have spent a few more minutes looking at the turtles but oh well, at least we got to see some. The bus picked us up at our hotel, which was covered in the cost of our ticket. We visited Kaneohe sandbar via Captain Bob's Abe has an amazing time. The sandbar was awesome, with volleyball and burgers over the sand. We saw a jellyfish within 20 seconds of getting into the water (yikes), followed by turtle watching. We then snorkeled and saw lots of fish and turtles. I really loved the tour. Everything about it was amazing. From the sandbar with the volleyball to the turtles on the way to the coral reef. The crew was amazing and very helpful, even got in with a woman who couldn't swim to help her. My one complaint is that they used styrofoam cups very excessively. While not a big deal to most, it seems that a tour company in Hawaii that needs the ocean for their business should be more environmentally conscious. read more

This was a great time. I had my entire wedding party out for a pre-wedding excursion and it was awesome. We did the 4 hour sandbar and snorkeling package and it was a lot of fun. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the food was good and the boat was more than adequate for all of our needs. No coolers but no problem because they serve beer and wine on board. There are like 80 people spread over three boats. The guy who runs the tour spends the entire bus ride talking about inane things and the entire snorkel trip singing badly at the top of his lungs. There are tons of snorkel trips to choose from in Oahu. Choose another. Otherwise, do what we did and drink heavily. It won't drown out the singing but it takes some of the edge off. read more

This business got two stars, rather than one, because if you've never been on this sort of adventure before, it might seem okay. Really, though, save your money. There are much better ones. Ask the local folks or check out Yelp reviews of other places. When I mentioned that we went on this "adventure" to a couple of locals, they said our experience was typical. Some things were good. . . Being in Hawaii was the best! 1 - The folks were very nice and friendly. 2 - It was quite thoughtful to have one of the two boats dedicated to Japanese speakers, as they made up over half of the customers, and it must have made them feel much more comfortable. 3 - On the way to our first water stop, we saw about a dozen green turtles swimming around, coming up for air. The captain stopped the boat and positioned it so we could get a good view. A great sight!! Those are the good things. However.. . 1 - On the boat we were on, IT DIDN'T FEEL SAFE TO WALK AROUND, because there were nowhere near enough railings or grab bars to hold onto as you moved around on the topside. Inside the cabin, there were hardly any surfaces to hold onto while moving about. The fact that in the cabin, the windows didn't open to let in any of the breezes made it pretty stuffy. I'm not a snob, and I do like homey. however, although pretty clean, it was kind of shabby, so if modern and "nice" are your thing, this boat didn't qualify. 2 - They sailed less than ten minutes from the dock to a sandbar where the water was about 3 feet deep so you could practice using the snorkel gear or play volleyball. ABOUT HALF THE DAY WAS SPENT SITTING THERE. This is when they cooked up the picnic -- tasty enough, but nothing really nutritious. Some of the area's plentiful, fresh pineapple, at least, would have been nice. 3 - Then, after eating, we went less than ten minutes away from the sandbar to snorkel around the reef. It was alarming that THE WATER OVER THE REEF WAS SO SHALLOW THAT WE COULD STAND ON IT in parts!! KILLING the reef!! If these folks knew the waters better, surely they could have found a better place for snorkeling! The two boats were tied together, and everyone went down the stairs (fairly nice) into the water. Within a 50-yard radius there were almost 50 people trying to snorkel around. (They might have anchored the boats separately and encouraged people to stay between them to give everyone more room, yet made it easy for them to watch and be sure everyone was safe.) The snorkel equipment was crappy: the flippers were not adjustable; the masks leaked (no matter how tightly or often you sealed them to your face); and the mouthpiece on mine (which was their standard) was too big, so my mouth filled with saltwater every couple of minutes. Also, they had antiquated snorkeling vests. 4 - The time allowed for snorkeling was much less than given over to hanging around on the sandbar. 5. The total time traveling on the water was much less than half an hour. Also -- bring your own towel, sunblock, and underwater camera. read more

Loved it! Great crew and great scenery. The trip was perfect for my 7 year old son who is just learning to snorkel. He saw "more fish than he ever imagined." There were giant - and I mean giant - sea turtles that hung out for a bit. They left after all the activity started, but I was able to get a really good look at them.
