There are definitely other options around the city, but something about Creole Soul always kept me coming back. The food is flavorful, comforting, and actually tastes like somebody knew what they were doing in that kitchen. Even though I don't live in Sacramento anymore, this is still one of those places I think about when I'm craving soul food. Whenever I'm back in town, Creole Soul is absolutely on my list. We got ox tail fries, corn bread, beans, smothered pork chops, shrimp n grits, banana pudding, peach cobbler. So let's get into it. The gravy was delicious but after a while became salty and you didn't want more. But man it was good and served very hot! Ox tail was cooked perfectly and served over fried potatoes. Pretty good. The shrimp and grits were cheesy but was a little too much sauce from what I am used to. Mac n cheese was decent. Banana pudding was good. They put yellow Oreos and chessman cookies which was yummy. The peach cobbler was also good as well I just wish that it came with a side of ice cream. The beans were absolutely delicious and well seasoned. But I'd have to say the star of the show was the cornbread and the amazing butter they put on top. I'd def go back just for the cornbread! I could see at that with the beans literally all day! Cons: expensive and there was a dip in the floor that was covered with a rug that people still seemed to stumble over.

Is the quality of the food and service from this restaurant decreasing? Or did I come on an off…read morenight? Either way, my experience this time around was underwhelming. I normally enjoy their entree's however, I was quite confused when my plate came out and it only had 3 scallops, 1 was overcooked (I guess I paid $10 per scallop since the plate itself was $36). The flavor profile was nice and light which went well with the green beans and the scallops. The waitress was very inattentive and refused to offer a complimentary birthday dessert after trying to upsell the desserts on the menu. I'll be back, but for HH only!

The shebang used to be packed with flavor, chunks of garlic, and a much thicker more robust marinade, and in the more recent visits, it's more watered down and not as flavorful. Service is still good, and the ambience is the same. And although I have yet to go when they actually have blue crab available, they were also out of several other menu items, including lobster and clams. Our party went early on Sunday, so it was surprising not to have some of the items. We hope the food quality returns to what it once was as this was one of our go-to places, but for now we will probably check out a few other seafood boil spots.

Out waiter was kind enough to bring candles which was so sweet of her! My sister, grandma, and I shared the red velvet cake and it was amazing. You could taste the history and personality of every dish. I have never tasted such great food. we sat on the patio and it was so gorgeous. They had a plaque about the green book and the history of the time period and what it was. My history loving family found that super cool. The atmosphere inside was great. The artwork was beautifu. Also he service was impeccabl. Our server, isis, was incredibly kind and helpfu. The service was speedy which is great bc my grandma was tired and usually had dinner at four (it was 7). However we still had enough time between appetizers, the meal, and dessert. Overall my family and I will be going back and I think we found our new favorite restauran.
