Haven't ordered from a Captain D's in a very long time. Was in the mood for some reason and the food was fine. Pretty much as I remembered. It was in the evening and this location has like no outside lighting not even the sign was lit up. It looked closed. Even the parking lot had no overhead lights on so don't know what's up with that. Landlords should really get that fixed. The other weird thing was that I ordered like four different dipping sauces and they literally gave me 18. Total waste of food cost. I know some people complain that places don't give enough or even at all unless you ask, but that was excessive. Just went though the drive-thru. This is what we got...our containers of food were given to us upside down, did not get the add-on fried shrimp, a handful of old fries, and my fish was not edible. After waiting 15 minutes to get to the order box at the drive through, (with only one car in front of me that just drove off) the manager said it was going to be another 15 minutes. (they closed in 30 minutes) I waiting for the 15 minutes then asked why it was talking do long since he wasn't taking any orders. The young lady who assisted me at the drive through was very kind and professional. I ordered the "Supreme Sampler" Two batter dipped fish, two chicken tenders, and six butterfly shrimp. Served with your choice of two sides and hush puppies my sides were fries and cole slaw. The fish was oily chicken tender's were over cooked the shrimp was fried on but everything had as after taste of freezer burn. The food was not fresh at all and no taste to the cole slaw just cabbage and Mayo is all it tasted like. My daughter strongly tried to discourage me from going there. The food here was all right, some batter wasn't fully cooked on the fish but that's my only complaint about the food. The service was iffy, there was this lady who had a sour look on her face and an attitude while taking our order. The restaurant was NOT clean and looked like there wasn't any sort of maintenance of how clean the dining areas were. There was trash and scraps of food on the floors, seats covered in crumbs from previous customers, the tables were just a complete mess with food and sauces everywhere, and the fountain drink station was in complete disarray. I don't dine-in here often but this was just saddening and ruined the overall mood of the evening. Went to this location yesterday. Had a note on the door saying drive thru only due to shortage of staff. Okay, so I go to the drive thru, no big deal. Problem arose when I pulled up to place my order and was told they only take cash. Mom and I dug around to see if we had Any cash. I generally don't have cash but Mom had a little bit so we tried to proceed with our order. Asked for 2 piece fish and fries with extra hush puppies instead of fries. Person working the window said they don't have fish and fries, just fish and sides. News to me after gone to Captain D's for years. Anyway conversation just got entirely too complicated trying to keep in the "cash only" budget l Finally told them to just forget it and drove away. The idea of drive through seafood is a great concept and the food is wonderful. I am feeling some serious love for this restaurant. So I was visiting friends when I was introduced to this great place. They know I am a seafood lover so they got me some drive through to go..a little bit of everything. I wouldn't have been able to take a picture because I went through it in about five minutes! I ate it all. And craved more. Immediately. Cap'n D's has long been one of our family's favorite eat-outs for seafood. However, what happened there Friday 8/11 and Saturday 8/12 makes it doubtful we will EVER visit this location again. We checked online before we came Friday 8/11 and the hours listed the restaurant open until 11 pm. However, when we arrived there shortly after 9 pm, we found the lobby door locked even though we could see the lobby and restaurant fully lit up and people inside. A man came to the door who identified himself as manager, and told us they normally close the lobby at 9 pm, but drive-through is open till 11. When we told him we'd driven from another town 30 minutes away to come there, he seemed surprised and asked why we would do so, when other Captain D's were closer to us. We told him how we'd always found his restaurant to be the best and considered it worth the drive. He was shocked but pleased and asked us to come back the next night, repeating that the restaurant is open for eat-in dining until 9 pm. We did so--arriving on Saturday August 12 at about 8:10 pm. As we came in the door, the young lady at the counter -- who didn't even say, "Hello" or "Welcome to Captain D's" or any sort of welcome, instead greeted us (loudly) with "THAT DOOR WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN LOCKED! I DON'T KNOW WHY IT WAS OPEN!" The three of us stopped in shock, and I said, "Your manager told us last night that the lobby is open until 9 pm; we came too late last night but he told us that we could come again before 9 pm and be welcome to eat inside." She heaved a huge sigh, then said, "Look. We only have TWO PEOPLE HERE (she was that loud) and we can't serve you." I pointed out that no one else was in the lobby waiting and there were only two cars in the drive-through, and we didn't mind if we had to wait a while. But, I explained again, we drove 30 minutes to get here and your manager told us we could eat inside if we arrived prior to 9 pm. At this point the young lady went ballistic. She threw her arms into the air, then shouted, "THAT'S IT! I CAN'T HANDLE THIS! I QUIT!!!!" and turned and marched off into the kitchen. I could see the cook / drive-through employee through the window into the kitchen watching all this, and his mouth literally fell open when she had her tantrum and then turned and marched off. I don't write too many reviews on fast food restaurants, unless I had a horrible experience that I felt I must share. But in this case the service was exceptional, a RARE occurrence that I had to write a review in hopes that management will see this and some how reward their employees and keep up the AMAZING WORK. This is only a review about my drive-thru experience. Jonas was working the drive-thru, and he literally has a great speaking voice. I was amazed how well he took my order and how professional he was. I am very serious, most people that work the drive thru sound very busy, tired, annoyed.... but this time I experienced someone that was very enthusiastic. The wait was not long at all the drive-thru line moves quicker than most Captain Ds. Once I got to the window Jonas was still very accommodating and enthusiastic. I am not lying when I say he went above and beyond. He asked if I wanted any sauce and then proceeded to tell me that they have two new sauces that I should give a try. I'm mentioning this because there has been more time that I have left a restaurant where I forgot to get sauce, because one they did not ask and two I will forget if you do not ask me. He then asked if my son could have a cookie and offered. I literally stopped going to the Captain D's at one location because it was horribly managed. Wow has this place ever changed. We quit coming here about a year ago because it had declined so badly. I knew when my friends Chris and Cory walked into this Captain D's with me that we were in for the meal of our lifetimes. I called beforehand and asked if the fish was fresh. The kind young lady on the phone informed me that their fish was the freshest in town. Needless to say, I was sold. I suggested Captain D's as the evening's dining establishment to my comrades, and both of them readily and eagerly agreed. So we set off We piled into Cory's beautiful Kia Soul and set a course for deliciousness, as the original Captain D himself must have done out on the open seas so many years ago. Upon our arrival, the piquant aroma of fried fish and the Captain's inimitable hush puppies greeted our nostrils and gave our olfactory senses something to celebrate. "Welcome to Captain D's, may I take your order?" With these magical words I was certain that my palate was in for a piscatory treat that couldn't be beat. I scanned the menu - so many choices, all of them superb - and settled on a three-piece fish dinner. "What sides?" My mind reeled as I took in the dizzying array of side dish options, each sounding more delicious than the last. After some contemplation I decided on green beans and corn-on-the-cob, regretting only that I couldn't add them all. Then the friendly Captain D's employee changed my entire world with the following words: "Would you like to add an order of butterfly shrimp for just $1.50?" Yeah, go back and read that again. Now read it one more time. Now close your eyes and imagine the crisp. savory taste of Captain D's butterfly shrimp absolutely melting into your tongue. Now try to come to grips with the fact that the price is only $1.50. My initial reaction was one of mind-bending horror. Was I dead? For a deal like this has ne'er crossed my path in the realm of the living. But no - it is indeed the truth. Falling to my knees, tears of joy brimming in my eyes, I answer "sure". After paying my more than reasonable fee for such a culinary delight, I wait patiently as my food is prepared by what I can only assume are the most grizzled of seafaring fisherman, mere hours ashore after weeks at sea. Finally my name is called and I approach the counter, collecting my tray and heading back to my table. Trembling with anticipation, I unwrap my black plastic Captain D's fork and sink it into one of two golfball-sized hush puppies (always the first thing I decide to eat when I'm dining at "The Cap"). I take my first bite and... Heaven. These are the hush puppies that launched a thousand ships; these are the hush puppies that haunt my dreams; these are the hush puppies whose siren song calls me back, over and over again, singing my arteries to inevitable but totally worthwhile shipwreck. It is at this point that I begin to lose touch with reality - vague memories of arriving in a Kia Soul with two friends... what were their names? Chad and Courtney? - I look around but my vision is blurred beyond the confines of my Captain D's tray. Nothing else remains. Only my three-piece fish dinner with two sides is real; all else is fiction. Has my entire life led to this moment? Has fate drawn me here? They gave me choices to address a large family order on 1 visit, 15 pieces (wanted approx 20), but it was several orders of a standard menu option (3, 5 pieces). This maybe standard for restaurants in general, but I would have appreciated a discount based on my original goal. On another visit, a menu item I wanted wasn't available at this location but I was given a substitute option and chose it. There is construction going on towards the entrance and it seems they may be short staffed at times or just not anticipating many customers. Stay away at all cost!! My last few experiences at this location has always been less than to be desired for this franchise brand. The fish at this location has always half cooked (a real health concern as the last 3 visits to the place has resulted in my and my wife getting sick from the food), the malted vinegar in the bottle are watered down (you had better always ask for the malted vingar in the packages), the Louisiana Hot Sauce bottom are also watered down (never have seen this done before at any other franchise - you had better ask for the hot sauce in the packages). The staff appears to be very inexperienced (this is not surprising for a fast food establishment, however they are very poorly trained and make very unwise decisions in handling customers with order issues. The staff also has exhibited sign of not knowing the importants of treating each and every customer in a fair and equitable manner ( it is really hard to believe that in this day and age that the staff really do not think that folks can see biases in the way they treat some customers as oppose to others). It is very amazing to see this a franchise brand in such a nice location has such poor quality issues with the food being prepared for the public as well as having such poorly trained staff to ensure quality of every customer's experience at the establishment. My daughter ( not a child) and I went to this Captain D's at about 3:00pm last Saturday to get a "snack" as we already had plans for dinner at home. One young lady was cleaning the front windows as we entered and the entire place was extremely clean. We were greeted as we entered and Jennifer the cashier was very nice and did not complain that we ordered kid's meals (as some places do) and even asked us if we wanted the 5 shrimp for $1.89 with it. The food was ready in a reasonable amount of time, was delicious and fresh.
