Great food. Excellent crab legs. Excellent friendly service. We went here years ago and the buffet was kind of boring. I planned to pass on the buffet line and go straight for the crab legs. I decided to try a few items on the buffet to see if maybe they had upped their game. The have certainly improved and the buffet had great wings, mashed potatoes, coconut shrimp, butterfly shrimp, clam strips, roasted potatoes, scallops and of course great crab legs. We loved it! 4 of us went there last night, 4-27-26, my treat for my friends who invited us down from Dallas for a few days of beach therapy. When we were being seated, the waitress informed us that it was $49.99 per person, okay. From the looks of the pictures on their website and a short vacation, no big deal. Then she informed me that there was going to be an 18% service charge on top of the meal cost. It's a buffet , we serve ourselves. During the meal, all she did was remove the used plates and never asked us if we needed anything else, no water. When the bill came, the 18%, $34.99, was added to the total and then that amount was taxed. Kinda like a double dip. There was also the line for a tip. You got o be kidding me! Beware: You are not told the pricing of the dinner until you sit down. It's 50.00 per person for all you can eat. That's worth it if you are having the crab legs but if not, it's really expensive. The food was good and you will have fun trying the different selections! 18% gratuities is mandatory, but beware when paying with a credit card, it's requested to add in a tip again. For $50 an adult, you would think they would do a bit better. You can tell what seafood was frozen. Three active leaks in the ceiling, black mold on the ceiling. As soon as you sit down you can smell the mildew. Liquid hitting your shoulder/head as you walk down the tables to get to your seat. This is only one side of the restaurant. Well, for one thing, they false advertise. They say you can order off menu, but when you ask about it, it is not available. Only bar items. So if part of your party doesn't want seafood, they are out of luck. There was 10 of us in our party this evening, and because of their false advertisements, they lost quite a bit of money today. Tasty yeast rolls in basket for table (hard not to fill up on those!) Crab, shrimp, oysters, (didnt try roast beef, sorry we get that back home) etc. And desserts are all fabulous! The best thing about Captain Jack's are the snow crab legs. On a recent Saturday night, they were well-stocked and steaming hot. My son and I had our fill. Unfortunately, everything else was subpar. Fried oysters and scallops were smothered and overwhelmed by excessive breading. Raw oysters were minuscule and did not look fit for consumption. Oysters were altogether absent from the unappetizing Oyster Rockefeller. Other various fish dishes looked coagulated and old under the heat lamps. The total bill for two people with soft drinks ran around $135 (18% tip was automatically added). Not worth it, especially when there are superior alternatives in the vicinity. We came here with a party of 8. I am not a fan of the calabash style but reluctantly decided to come anyways. The two stars were for crab legs and catfish alone, the fried catfish was surprisingly really good. Everything else was basically just fried mush. Some things on the buffet line smelled really really fishy. The interior itself is also incredibly run down. Some lights weren't on. The "gift shop" was a dark, hot room. It was an uncomfortable dining experience and seemed like there was something shady going on. I would never come back here unless I could pay for only a piece of the catfish. The absolute worst restaurant we have ever been to. I travel the country every week and honestly have never had to write a review like this. Everything from the salad bar, the fried items, and the raw bar were horrendous. Oysters so small and thin, peel and eat shrimp undercooked and impossible to peel. Run of the mill seafood buffet. All your typical fried seafood and some land options. The service was okay for just bringing us drinks. I'm not sure what part of the service constitutes an 18% mandatory tip. She brought us drinks and our bill. Our plates stacked up and our empty crab shells sat on the table the whole time. Items with stuffing were 85% stuffing was hard to find the clams or shrimp or lobster in the stuffed 1/2 lobster. There was a Hugh assortment of food, mostly fried seafood or stuffed with lots of breadcrumbs. The salad bar was really nice. Soup was ok. Grilled and poached fish was horribly overcooked. Fried chicken had clumps of breading. Prime rib was a little chewy. Crab claws were large but cool easily and not my favorite. There was a large display of desserts but the all seemed to be flavorless. For $45 per person , it was a big disappointment. The waitress was adorable but that couldn't save it! Absolutely do not recommend. Customer service is non existent. Food is subpar. Super expensive and they have roaches ! For over 300$ you'd expect to not have to eat with bugs crawling on the walls behind you. When I raised concerns about the bug they acted like this was completely normal. They didn't offer to move our seats or anything at all. They smashed the bug and went about life as normal. They however didn't forget to add their 16% gratuity even though I wrote 0$ on the receipt. When I messaged the company afterwards they insinuated that my party must have not been offended by the bugs , only me. Because they finished their meal. At over 900$ combined in our party. yeah, they're gonna finish it considering it was made perfectly clear nothing was going to be done. Telling me that we shouldn't have finished what was already on my plate implies that the food is tainted also. I paid 300$ for my portion of the possibly roach infested food. Crab leg fantasy land! This place was amazing, such a fun design and great food. You must give this place a try, it's all you can eat for $49. The selection of foods you can try is outstanding, yes many are fried but lots are not. We are crab leg lovers and this place is beyond amazing. The crab legs are boiled fresh and are not sitting there getting soggy and cold. You literally watch them being boiled and placed into the buffet tray. It was a continuous stream of fresh, hot, tasty crab legs for as long as you wanted. (Mind blowing lol) The rest of the selections were great also but our focus was the crab legs. They crowd was down during our visit so there was only 20 to 25 people there during our visit. The wait staff were fun and very sharp. What a great experience.
