My in laws chose this place because they have gone here each time they come to MB for vacation. But $44 for this buffet was ROBBERY. The only thing that got me even remotely close to eating my moneys worth was the crab legs, and even those weren't great.. lots of variety, but none of it very good. The crab mac n cheese was not good, it tasted very "fake fishy" like someone poured seafood broth in it that's how overwhelming it was. The fruit looked like it had sat out for days and days it was very mushy. The desserts (the fresh cakes not the puddings or other suspicious looking items on the bar) might have been the only decent & fresh tasting thing we had. VERY disappointing. It's sad when the best thing at a seafood buffet at the beach is the Prime Rib and Fried Chicken. Desserts were good. We were shown to our table - jello on the floor, crab on the table. Most of the seafood was bland. Catfish and Crab Bites just tasted like batter. Crawdads were dry and tasteless. Cold muscles and oysters on the half shell - tasteless. First time I've had them. Tried twice. Greens were gritty. Cajun King Crab Legs were old. Regular King Crab Legs were ok. Wife and daughter both felt sick that evening and the next day. The Prime Rib was really very good. The Fried Chicken was juicy and tasted good but the skin was a little dark. Beware: There is a 15% fee (gratuity) for parties of 6 or more. No warning except the tiny print on the napkin holder. Talked to the Manager - no resolution. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Price per adult is right around $42. For a seafood buffet at that price I would expect a stellar selection. We had a good experience at Capt Jack's Buffet tonight. It was early, so seating was immediate; even with this being National Bikers Week. Drinks delivered quickly. Refills without asking. Food options were many; quality was average to better; everything was tasty. And there were plentiful good options for my non-seafood preferring wife. A couple of items were too dry or salty; and the crab stuffed selections had no crab to taste, but overall good. Dessert selections were several and good. Not great overall; but was good. Pricing is too high of course; with two meals (each with $3 discount coupons) totaled $97 with taxes; so $110 + with gratuity. It's been about 10 yrs since I've done a seafood calabash buffet, and I may wait another 10. But this was a decent one. read more

First off, buffets are usually not my thing. I'm a pretty small lady and somewhat of a picky eater (I don't eat beef or poultry), but I love seafood and Captain Jack's was my husband's idea when we were at the beach visiting friends. We found a coupon in one of the coupon books in grocery stores, but they are also on the website, and we were happy to get $3 off everyone's buffet price for arriving before 5:30- so I was on board. They do have a menu if you don't want the buffet, but the menu prices were close to the buffet price, so I chose the buffet to have more options and try a little of everything. The buffet had a great selection of seafood. I'm not a fan of crab legs or prime rib, but I enjoyed the stuffed shrimp, coconut shrimp, salmon, deviled crab, and some of the veggies- especially the sweet potatoes, carrots, and sauteed squash. My favorite item was the stuffed shrimp, and the buffet staff did a great job of keeping it fresh and filled, as well as taking away our plates when we were done with them and refilling our drinks. The salad bar wasn't the greatest so I skipped it, but most people don't go to a seafood buffet to eat salad anyway. Like all buffets, I tried a few things I didn't care for, but at least I could go up and grab something I did like. Captain Jack's has almost every type of seafood you can think of, prepared different ways. They also have fruit, soups, and tons of great desserts, including ice cream, several cobblers, and quite a few cakes. I had a very rich chocolate brownie along with two scoops of vanilla ice cream- delicious way to end the meal. Captain Jack's wasn't the best seafood I've ever had, but it's a solid choice for all you can eat crab legs and seafood. You can definitely eat your money's worth here if you're hungry. the ambiance is a bit lacking, and you walk out through a tourist trap gift shop with a scantly clad pirate, but you are in Myrtle Beach. Two and a half years into a pandemic will most definitely change one's perspective on buffet-style dining. I will start with the positive things about this establishment: They seated us quickly, have friendly staff, and tons of food options. But I'd give this place 2-stars for how this buffet is run. Pre-pandemic me might not have thought twice about it, but I sure do now. This buffet is operating on a completely self-serve basis, meaning every person going thru the line has touched the serving utensils. And many of those utensil were completely immersed in the container of food or put back in the wrong dish. I've been to other buffets that had servers available to dish out the food you select or the dishes were already pre-portioned out, helping to ensure that the food is uncontaminated. Visited Myrtle Beach for a sunny vacation. Heard about Captain Jack's. Popped in for a visit ordered the all you can eat in gorged myself of the most delicious, succulent, exuberant, fantastic seafood, I've ever tasted the land and sea varieties were beyond my expectations. The crowd was friendly. The service was nice. Parking was great. Unlimited crab legs eat until you've can't and couldn't eat another bite go up 500 times. If you like, there was a unlimited supplies, surplus of crab legs and also a variety of other seafood delights. The amount of food was mind blowing it just never ended. I wish I could've stayed there three days in a row. It was just an overall great experience and I will never forget, this was a very good restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone who's in the area of Myrtle Beach vacationing and having fun. I visited this place while on vacation, the server was very attentive and made sure we had what we needed. The crab legs was good, but all the other food lacked. All the veggies that I got was lukewarm and tasteless, seems like it had not been switched out for fresher ones. The rice I got was hard and also lacked taste. The bang shrimp was a piece of rolled shrimp covered in breading that lacked the bang! For the price of this buffet, it was disappointing! I overheard a customer asking her waiter why the tip that was added to their bill for a party of four was $32.00, he told her that is just the way it is, poor communication. Wasted Money and Wasted Food This was possibly the worst restaurant meal I have ever eaten. I totally wasted the $50 charge (+ $3.00 for iced tea and several local taxes) and threw away a lot of food. Although the buffet offered 140 items, I tried only the ones that interested me the most. Here is an analysis of these dishes. I'll start with the star of the show - CRAB LEGS. In a word - AWFUL. I have eaten a lot of crab legs and I know how to dissect them efficiently. (Break the legs apart at the joints, slide out the two thin pieces of cartilage, snap the leg section in half on one side, turn it over and snap the other side. Then gently slide out the delicious, juicy, firm meat. The lobster cracker is used only on the claws.) A bit of work, but worth the effort. UNLESS, when you get to the final step, you find the meat is mushy and tears apart like a wet tissue. Part of the problem with the crabs at Captain Jacks was that the shell was not crackable - it was like thin linoleum. As a result, it was virtually impossible to get at any of the mushy meat out except for the largest leg section. After struggling with two clusters, I finally gave up and tried other items. SHRIMP - another of my favorites. The peel-and-eat shrimp were very hard to peel and the meat had the consistency of 'Play Dough.' This is the result of shrimp that have been lying around for a long time or grossly overcooked - or both. I ate two shrimp and, unfortunately, had to throw away the rest. The fried shrimp (at least that's what I thought they were) were like little lumps of battered stones, with about as much flavor. MUSSELS - The is nothing better than a properly steamed P.E.I. mussel. If they are removed from the steamer just when they start to open up, they are tender and succulent. However, when they a cooked the way Captain Jacks does them, they are wide-open, dry as cardboard and just as hard to chew. Again, I had to throw away most of my serving. PRIME RIB - The only good thing about Captain Jacks prime rib was that it was sliced thin was paper; otherwise I don't think I could have cut it at all. Even the thin slices were so tough and stringy that I had to hack at it aggressively in order to get a few mouthfuls. I quickly realized that it wasn't worth the effort and more of my meal went in the waste tray. I did not try any of the other items, but I will say that some of the desserts and salads LOOKED tempting - but I can't comment on how they tasted. Also, the service was very good, Of course, this is a buffet so you get your own food, but the server was attentive to the table and emptied the waste food tray and refilled drinks in a timely manner. The restaurant was not adequately air conditioned. The warm dining room seemed to curb our appetites and caused us to finish our meal earlier than otherwise. Since this is an "all-you-can-eat" buffet, I guess this works in the favor of the owner. When you are visiting the South Carolina Grand Strand, do yourself a favor and go to a real restaurant - one that focuses on quality instead of quantity. Went today to celebrate Mother's Day! So happy we did. The food was delicious and plentiful. HUGE variety. So many options and anything we tried was very good. Crab legs were a good size and were always available. Nice raw bar. And the desert bar did not disappoint. The staff at this restaurant was so friendly. The host was welcoming. First time here. I read a few negative reviews, but decided to eat here anyway. I'm glad I ate we did. My wife and I really enjoyed the food. We ate our weight in crab legs....just joking. But really, the food was fresh and hot. Our bill with tip was $80.50. You might think that is pricey, and it is if I did this every day. For someone who loves seafood and who can't get good seafood regularly, my family and I enjoyed this place. Today they had a $3 off their normal pricing for Easter. The management also honored the military coupon for our family which we received from The Tanger Outlets. We were very grateful since our 13 & 15 year old get charged as adults. Be ready for their photographer that wants to take a picture of you as soon as you are into your first plate of food. Hubby had to refuse the picture 3 times. Our waitress was nice and kept the scrap plates cleared. This satisfied my seafood kick! My 15 year old got the strawberry dessert, in which the strawberries were sour. We were a party of 11 celebrating my mom's 71st birthday. I was thrilled to have crab legs, but they're hit or miss with these buffets. Luckily, it was a huge hit at Capt Jacks tonight. They were perfect; bright orange-clean-hot. I also sampled the mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, fried clams, stuffed crab, peel & eat shrimp and some desserts. I really enjoyed everything I ate. The rest of our group enjoyed their dinners as well. Our server was fantastic! Friendly, attentive and even brought fresh French fries for my 9 yr old nephew. She also offered and took photos of our group with our phones. So going back to the birthday celebration. We called ahead to ask if we could bring our own birthday cake and not only did they approve, they kept it in their cooler until we were ready for dessert. The manager made sure our celebration went well. He brought the cake out, removed the lid, and gave us a cake knife. 7 servers also came out with the cake and sang Happy birthday. When we were finished, he packed up the cake. He also took pictures of our group with his digital camera and within minutes came back with a printed copy of the group photo nicely placed in a souvenir folder. All in all, food was great, service was great and management was great.
