Hands down best coffee shop I have ever been to! The Coffee, food, and vibes at captain + stoker are top notch. Everyone here is extremely friendly and goes out of their way to make sure you have a good experience! The coffee is made to perfection unlike everywhere else in the area. You can tell that the owners have a lot of passion not just for the coffee but everything else that comes with it. such a great spot to get quality coffee. the space is also very spacious and has really cute seating areas. my boyfriend got the mocha, and i got a vanilla latte with macadamia nut milk. it was my first time trying macadamia milk and it was quite delicious! another thing to add, the baristas are very sweet and welcoming. i asked about alternative milks and merchandise, they were very respectful and easy to talk to. definitely coming back to this spot! read more

Their espresso machine had just broken & they were waiting for maintenance -- but instead of just closing up shop, they offered free drip coffee to anyone stopping by. (Which was delicious). Had the cereal bowl today and it is a GREAT addition to the menu, perfect size, filling, nutritious, and aesthetically pleasing! We stumbled upon Captain+Stoker in search of a good coffee and a place to fill our water bottles before a long drive down the coast. The cafe is light and airy, well decorated, and appears to attract a young crowd. One of the owners took our order. He was welcoming and lovely. We chatted with him for a bit while he made us a drip coffee and heard about their mission to build a thriving community centered around the cafe. It feels like that's what they have done there. Great coffee in a fun atmosphere. This would be a great place to get together with friends as there are plenty of tables including larger tables that seat several. Had a flat white and found a space on the window to get some work done on my laptop. The pastries look great. I have been coming here from the time they opened, and I was never disappointed in anything, never. Every drink they handed me was perfection. I was into chai, and they would make sure I would get extra spicy chai. Every time, even without mentioning it. Recently I "converted" to macha latter after having drinking chai for more then a year with them. Anyone who does not like overly sweet matcha lattes or chai around the town, come here, this is the place! They do not use concentrates, they actually whisk real matcha powder in a traditional way with a bamboo whisk in each cup, while steaming oat milk to make a latte. Same with chai, it's not a concentrate, it is a real stuff, people: real black tea with real spices. I also want to mention that for nondairy people they have all kind of usual selection of milks, like soy and almond, but they always carry oat and macadamia milk, both of these very popular with customers. Try oat milk in hot drinks and macadamia in the iced versions - you will never go to another coffee shop! The sourdough bread here is the best, you must try their avocado toast! They have the bread baked for them, and the slices are very generous. They make their own peanut butter energy balls, sofffft, they are delicious, and reasonably priced too. And lastly, the VIBE! Every time I come here my mood uplifts, its like getting a dopamine shot in the middle of the day! Music selection make my heart sing and my body move, and if I need to work on a computer, I pop my headphones and concentrate among others computer heads here. This place also makes me more extraverted, Tyler and his team are super friendly, I feel like I am a friend here, you know it is a good feeling to be seen, creates a continuity with people, a feeling of a tribe. This is definitely the best coffee in town! When my husband and I travel, we like to try all the coffee places in town to see which one has the best coffee. Well this one is the winner for us coffee snobs. This is the one we will be coming to each time we visit Monterey. The location is good too. You can grab a cup to go and walk to the pier or around down town, or hang out there and enjoy your coffee. Oh I almost forgot to mention how awesome the sour dough bread is!
