San Juan Batista, what a cute town with a delicious roaster and cafe. We received a bag of coffee as a gift from here and I was sad when it was all gone. So happy we finally paid a visit. My husband and I both got our regular vanilla lattes and I got a chorizo burrito while he ordered a regular breakfast burrito. Everything was delicious!! (Highly recommend, but you don't have to take my word for it.) We came back a couple weeks later and this time I got the Spellbound (i believe it's a cappuccino with briwn sugar). My favorite sandwich is the buratta - roasted cherry tomatoes, basil, pesto, and balsamic vinegar on a ciabatta roll. (I always split it with my dog.) Interesting joint they've got here. Vendor out front selling their wares, a giant smoker their staff was managing that had wood fired pizzas, and an old rustic building. I feel bad we passed this place for our commute to Monterey or wherever without stopping by. This will become our regular stop on our way through. I ordered a White chocolate mocha latte w/oatmilk, plus salted caramel. Tasted great. I said if they had raspberry syrup & added it to this, they'd have themselves a Snow White! They apologized for not having that syrup in, but for some odd reason I had a hankering for one. I told the dude barista that the raspberry adds a hint of bitter to the intense sweet of the white chocolate to contrast the flavors, and note his interest is peaked! A quaint little coffee shop for a quaint little town. San Juan Bautista is known for it's mission but this little gem has definitely made their presence known. With their cute little curb appeal of a floral decorated patio area equipped with a brick oven. You walk in and are met with the wonderful fragrance of coffee. Then you are welcomed by the barista's behind the counter. They offer a few items on their shelves from what seems like locals and small business owners. Anywhere from jams to beef jerky. We also noticed that a few of the art pieces that adorned the walls were for sale. I had their yummy iced lavender latte and my son had a iced matcha latte sweetened with some honey. I am not from this area, and stumbled upon Vertigo Coffee. Upon entering, I realized there was an outdoors and indoors seating option. There are lights outdoors that would give the outside a lot of ambience if you come here after dark. I ordered the iced mocha coffee and really enjoyed the richness of the coffee and the slight sweetness of the mocha. The staff were very friendly and even opened the door for me! I've lived in this town for 1 year now, i come for selection of micro beers and the pizza which is usually good. Last Saturday I brought a friend after our hike. We ordered at the same time, each got one beer and a pizza. My friend was done with his pizza by the time I got mine, I had to remind them twice about my order. When they finally brought it, they didn't even apologize about the wait. They put the tip line when you make the purchase, before you've even received the service. The quintessential little cafe in a town known for a historic mission and the namesake directorial venture of the most famous filmmakers in the world. The coffee is spot on. The service is very courteous and the people are warm. You can sit with that cup in the patio and spend the whole day in the sun. I loved the coffee roaster on site and the pace was just different as it took us back to a coffee infused time of small batch roasting. However, customer service is such a vital part of any successful business, and unfortunately, that's where this visit fell short. When we walked in, there were about four people behind the counter, but not one of them greeted us, smiled, or acknowledged our presence. It felt unwelcoming right from the start. The young woman who took our order barely spoke; aside from pointing out there would be a question after payment (regarding the tip). My new go to coffee shop as a recent Hollister resident. Vertigo is doing a lot right and that brings me back, truly wish I could give them 5 stars but we will come back to why I am not. The location is great and I love their outdoor garden and pop up markets. The coffee is fresh and their syrups are organic which makes a big difference. Their food also offers some great authentic pizzas and breakfast options--my favorite is the breakfast sandwich on the organic sourdough! My iced vanilla latte is always a treat and constantly made. So, with so much good why not 5 stars? The service when ordering can be cold and dry even as a regular customer which honestly doesn't sit right with me. There have honestly been times where my order was taken and I wasn't even greeted and this is kind of the vibe with most of the front staff unfortunately. We just happened upon this spot, as it was close to the hotel we were staying in. We really enjoyed our latte, Mexican mocha, and breakfast burritos. It's more than a coffee place too... lots of other interesting things to check out there. We got lucky, as today is Saturday, and there was a guy selling organic vegetables just outside their door. So breakfast lunch and dinner are all covered. we were not able to explore the little downtown area, which looks kind of cool, so next time we're heading up to the Monterey area will leave a little earlier and allow for some time in San Juan Bautista. Eh mid for the price. Mid as in I probably wont go back. Coffee was bland and tasted watered down. The breakfast sandwich i got, if I wanted an unflavored, unseasoned sandwich I wouldve just gone to my school's cafeteria, which somehow is better than vertigo. Service was mid, no recommendations or even being friendly. As someone who works in customer service you can tell when someone is new but regardless, it doesnt hurt to ask if youve been there before and recommend different products for your own personal reasons. I was looking for outlets so i could chill and do hw at a coffee shop but they hardly had any for customers. 2 stars for the most basic service, food, and ambience and because im being generous. Very cute coffee spot, with lots of staff to serve the guests quickly. We got a masala chai and a latte to go. Both were delicious. They also serve food, but we just stopped in quickly so maybe next time we'll try their food. They have some seating inside and plenty of patio seating too, seems like a chill spot to grab a cup of coffee and chat with your friends. Pet friendly, there were a few dogs there with their humans. Cute little coffee house in Downtown San Juan Bautista named after Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo movie filmed at the old Mission. I went inside to order but no menu at all. It wasn't until you get up to the register where there are stacks of paper menu but you have to scan quickly to order. A larger menu would be appreciated! I ordered a small matcha with almond milk (+1.50) with sugar. It came out to be almost $7 for a matcha but it was sweetened how I like it. The breakfast burrito was large and comes with scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, bell peppers and the works. Pricey but I don't mind supporting local businesses. Plus they were opened early. A good place to come after walking around the Mission and surrounding downtown areas. read more

The pizza from Vertigo is one of the best in the area, including Hollister. My wife and I come at least every other week for our fix of their Green Flash pizza. But honestly, all of their pizza is delicious. You can't go wrong. Their chicken Bahn Mi is also great! The place is counter service, with a coffee bar fulfilling coffee drinks, but they also serve tap beer along with a fridge full of locally sourced canned beer - perfect for pairing with their pizza. My wife always gets their Micheladas which are absolutely fantastic! When we're in need of some beans, we pick up a bag of their freshly roasted coffee! If you're lucky, they're roasting in a day you go in - the aroma is intoxicating. They also have a cute garden area to eat in if the weathers nice. If in the area, vertigo is a must. Love this cute cafe in San Juan Bautista. Coffee here is really quite good, and the breakfast offerings are also yummy! While I love me a nice, hipster, contemporary coffee shop, it's beginning to feel almost a bit overdone in Silicon Valley / SF Bay. This was such a cute town and stop on the way to Pinnacles National Park! The breakfast burrito and bowls were so light and filling, and the prices were reasonable. They did take a really long time to make their food (about 20 min), but it's okay since the food was presented with so much care! Garden: Hands down 10 out of 10 - absolutely pleasure to have a seat outside in the beautiful, artistic garden with plenty of outdoor seating and overhead lighting. All the perfect touches made me want to stay longer than a quick stop. I was the only one there since I was late for lunch so walked all over the place to admire the carefully organized flowers growing around the exterior - someone let the garden team know you're doing fab! Music: Today's playlist was just right. It can totally destroy your tired mind to walk in to a cafe with techno babble, the pop/folk/country vibe was awesome. Service: As I said, I came late afternoon for lunch and on a weekday - all the servers were helpful and friendly. No fake snooty barista attitudes, just simple manners and thank you for that! Also, the at table service was on par, thank you team Vertigo! Menu: Loved the menu line up-- there is something for every one and anytime! Pizza: I had a piping hot Margherita pizza. The thin crust was perfection out of wood fired oven, however the tomato base was out of a can and spread a bit thick. The mozzarella was sparse but I'm good with holding back the cheese just enough :-) Um also not enough basil :-) I highly recommend switching out the tomato base, it made me sad. Come on guys, I know you can do a good Margherita from that beautiful oven! I left without getting coffee as I was in a hurry and have read the reviews that say its not hot or great.
