We found Captain's Cafe Bar & Grill on a trivia website and it worked out in terms of timing and location. Trivia started at 8pm and we arrived around 7pm to grab a table and dinner. I had a fish sandwich and others in my party had the lamb kebab and cheeseburger. Staff here were amazing - they checked up on us often and cleared the table very often. We were very comfortable and well taken care of during our time here. Trivia was great - we had a lot of fun. I will definitely be back to do more trivia! read more

Review for this place is long overdue. Found out about this place years ago when I worked at midtown on 30th st during lunch. They had a crazy lunch deal, $10.95 for a meal and a drink, unbelievable! Not anymore but the food is still worth paying regular price. Recently came here with a friend on a Wednesday night. The place is dim but not too dim and it's not too loud even though they had trivia night. Ordered the chicken shish kebab ($18.95) and it was delicious just how I remembered it. The Tzatziki sauce is different from the last time I had it, it was more liquidy before, either way it was still good. If you want good drinks, food and chill vibes, this is the place. This place was an amazing find. We are visiting from Arizona and are waiting for our reservations at the empire state building. We just happened to stumble upon this place. The food is out of this world, amazing kabobs, I had the lamb and everything about it was perfect. My mom had hummus with cucumbers and pita bread and we found out the hummus is made here! They are so sweet and very attentive with our drinks. We hung out for a few hours and had a great time chilling and drinking with amazing music and atmosphere. It started off ok. Then the owner was talking(yelling) to two patrons at the bar and was so f*cking loud he was overpowering my headphones and I was at other end of bar. I had 4 beers and I always keep track of how many I have especially after looking at the reviews. 5 beers on my bill and I said "5? I only had 4" he took my bill and immediately brought back the correct bill and never said a single word. Hmmmm seems like this has happened before. Bartender when I walked in wasn't the same that gave me my bill. They switched 1/2 through. Avoid. There are plenty of other places to go. Read reviews. read more

Not necessarily the friendliest service, but maybe that was their intention for the vibe. Can't argue though that they have some pretty cheap happy hour deals sometimes on their sign. The jello shots had a nice kick and it was nice seeing the draft beers in their corresponding glasses. read more

Captain's Cafe Bar and Grill is New York City's modern day version of Cheers. I am so thankful that we stumbled upon Captain's when we first moved to the city. Captain's is a family owned midtown bar where you will find locals, visitors, and regulars relaxing, chatting, and drinking anything from a cold budlight to a johnny on the rocks. Appetizers are excellent (especially the hummus) and the food is great but the best part about Captain's is the crowd. The owner/Captain and his crew are sincere, kind-hearted people that make you feel right at home. We just went to the city for a weekend getaway and arrived pretty late on our first day and wanted to grab a celebratory drink. And noticed this particular spot, so we looked around from the outside to scope out the scenery and said what the heck.from not knowing what we were about to get into turning it Into an unforgettable experience in just a few hours. Good place for lunch across from ESB. Several lunch specials (sandwiches and burgers) for $10.95 which includes a draft beer. I was awestruck. My tab was just under $12 before the tip. Happy Hour starts at lunch. Any beer for $5.00 plus a shot for an extra $1.00. Long bar on the right as you come in. Table seating in back. My only complaint is that the space under the bar was limited. I had to keep leaning forward when eating. Background music was set low at lunch today. Room is narrow so will get crowded in a hurry after work. read more

Cheapest booze in Manhattan, very decent Turkish food, and great service all the time - this is a family business and during the day, the whole family works here. I honestly had to keep saying, "Are you sure you are charging me the right amount?" Came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon at 3:15 pm with little to no expectations and if you are here during their lunch specials, this place is a steal. The food came out within 15 minutes as well. I got a plate of Steak Fajitas on a bed of romaine with sauce to pour on AND a Blue Moon ( you could have gotten a glass of wine or pop) for $12.00 without a tip. The Fajitas were definitely above average, and the fact it was a salad made it better for me but when I got that meal (which I was hungry and filled me) and the beer, I was and still am pretty shook about how cheap it was! It is also down the street from the Empire State Building so where they would be getting a lot of tourists and can charge whatever they want essentially, it made it all the more confusing! I really wanted to like this place for a few reasons. It's family owned and in a very expensive and corporate part of the city. That is why I wanted to support it and I went back a few times to give it a chance. 1. They false advertise. Outside it clearly states that you get one dollar shots after you "buy any beer." In reality, they wait until you ask for your second round of 1 dollar shots to tell you that you get a shot for a dollar with every beer you buy. 2. The owner is rude. He is a grumpy old rude man who is complaining and screaming in Turkish all the time around his customers. 3. Since it's pretty rare to have a family owned business like that you would only hope that they would take pride in it and be friendly, polite and have better quality food and drinks. But they prefer to cheat their potentially loyal clients by false advertising silly things on their chalk board out front. As someone who is often in the area for work, I was hoping this could have become a local bar where I could go to. But I will spend my money elsewhere and not be cheated and treated badly. read more

I've been here exactly three times in a four year span and last night was the last time I'll come here. Spur of the moment drinks after a long day of work and this is unfortunately one of the closest bars. We ordered a round of (5) jager bombs and one drink and the bill came out to $82! On top of that, we tipped $7 for that round [$1 per drink] and the bartender told us he wouldn't accept it because it was less than 10%. We immediately left after that round. read more

A diner with some Turkish dishes and some breakfast. Personally haven't gotten breakfast but I did get lunch with a small group. The woman serving was nice. i had the Kofte Kebab lunch which came with rice and a small salad. The salad was good though the tomatoes specifically could have been fresher. The rice was very good with no clumps. In terms of the Kofte, there were 4 pieces which was fine for the price (10.82 with tax.) The flavors were fine with a little bit of spice. There was also some light watery hot sauce (still good) as well as a pretty normal but good white sauce. Good place. Though if I want Turkish food, I prefer Galata and a few others. After going to the Morgan Library nearby on a Saturday morning, I yelped open now / one $ and this place had the highest rating but only 13 reviews... I was not disappointed. The place is run by a family from Turkey and you can taste the care in the food. Beside the burgers & breakfast egg dishes, there are gyros & kabobs. We had the minced lamb ****** and the chicken kebab *****. This 10 foot store front of the place is a find. I'm going back if I'm anywhere near the neighborhood. read more

If you stay at 32 32 hotel, this is the café that they send you to for complementary breakfast. Let me say that I was very impressed. Usually for complementary breakfast, it's a bagel or maybe a muffin. However, this place high quite a few options. I got three pancakes with a side of bacon, and my mom got a vegetable omelette with a side of toast. They both got coffee which in hindsight it was pretty good. They also had options of eggs, egg sandwiches, bagels, French toast, and other kinds of omelettes. The only complaint I have was the service. We waited for a very long time to be attended to and they did not offer water. After asking twice, the guy brought us water. read more

We are staying at Hilton Garden up the street and after sight seeing I try to find a place close but if it isn't good,we go where ever to get good food.Beer is what brought us in to this friendly bar then tried lunch ..it was delicious....everyday we stopped by for 4$ Perroni wow that's a deal.The people behind the bar..two lovely Irish young gals,are a pleasure..tonight we decided to have dinner..my husband had mixed grill he loved.for appetizer the owner fixed up hummus and another great dip with fresh pita.omg was it good.so much that I had them box the rest up. This review is for the bar area. Walked in here on a whim to grab a couple of drinks before a concert. There was a band setting up to perform which I thought was awesome and definitely makes me interested in coming back. It was a Monday night and the bar was surprisingly crowded. Bartenders were very nice and offered to seat us at a high boy away from the bar area but we opted to sit at the bar. Happy hour was going on, drinks ranging from $5-7 which is great in Manhattan. They had a solid number of drafts on tap, including my personal favorite Allagash White so I was very happy (& they served it in the proper glass...it's the little things that count!) Okay so here's the good stuff: The waitress there is super sweet and has great customer service skills, the owner seems like a nice guy. The food is okay when ya want to fill that "I'm craving so-so diner food" void, I've had the chicken "patty" sandwich which is one of those oval shaped processed chicken patties ya might find in a public school, meh not so good. My biggest problem with that place is the owner will let people sit or stand right outside and smoke, in fact he does it himself and usually you end up getting a lot of that cigarette smoke wafting inside, not the most pleasurable experience, that last time I dealt with that was the last time I went in there. Like I said the people are nice but I don't want to smell cigarette smoke when I'm eating, I want to smell my processed chicken like meat sandwich. read more
