I ordered the mac and cheese, the waiter gave me a bowl of pasta in liquid with two slices of orange cheese on either side. The waiter laughed as he set it down. I had THREE bites. The service is fantastic. There is never a lack of knowing that somebody is walking around and there is always a manager on duty. The food is unbelievably good the steak so what if it's $42 splurge a little bit in your life what are the french fries no salt well done terrific you still need ketchup and it's on the table there's no problem here. I do miss the night manager, I think his name was Spiro. He was always kind and considerate and I know he was there for about two decades. I hope he's coming back. Maybe he went to Greece? A banana pudding you have to come early in the day like this tapioca pudding gets sold out right away. It's so homemade. I had a poor experience at this establishment 12 years ago but tonight's was just the opposite. The service was good, the lamb gyro was perfectly cooked and the restaurant was clean and well lit. I swore I'd never return but I'm so glad I did! Maybe there's a few lessons to be learned here. One of our long rambling walks on our way home on a Monday evening. One of the 2 or 3 times a year we'll stop at a diner for a dessert before the last mile or so home. My husband's favorite used to be something you could rely on any diner to have - apple crumb cake. This place has only apple crumb pie (we had left a different diner about an hour earlier, for the same reason). We decided to stay anyway. To his own surprise, he loved that generous slice of pie! It was piled high with apples and covered on top with a pretty thick layer of a pretty good crumb (I had to taste it, it looked so good). He was really pleased! My lemon meringue pie was decent. I don't know why, but lately every diner's lemon meringue pie is high with overly sweet and sticky meringue and light on the lemon. I'd prefer a shorter and less sugary meringue with a bigger and tarter citrus layer beneath it. But I ate the pie without the crust and it was satisfying enough. The chicken was so bland and the sandwich had no flavor (it was also missing the tomato). A friend of mine swore by this place and it was so good I found myself putting others on also. Took the ferry to 34th and walked over and enjoyed lunch on the deck outside. Passersby don't interrupt you as u dine and that's always a plus. The neighborhood is kind of quiet so it makes for a great little spot for cheap-ish eats and a good time. Came here after going to the movies a few blocks down. I ordered the chicken souvlaki, y cousin ordered the Tuscany wrap which was more of a grilled chicken wrap and my friend ordered a chicken quasidilla. My Greek salad was good and so were the fries but the chicken was a little over cooked where it was crispy. It looked like maybe it had been out too long before cooking it. The employees that worked there seemed very unhappy. I asked to refill my water, they did it but seemed annoyed by it. I had to ask three times for lemon slices for my water. For the most part I try not to order at work because the prices are expensive everywhere. However, when I need to order this spot is one of my go to spots for a variety of food options and they deliver quick. I usually order through one of the food apps and never had a problem. One of my favorite dishes to order here is the turkey burger deluxe with sweet potato fries. The meal portion is big and very delicious. Was in town for a training. I miss comfort food like this as I grew up in PA and have a place in my heart for certain diner food. Ordered a hot Turkey sandwich with fries as the potato and soup. I put comments in to add gravy for fries too since it wasn't a side option. The Turkey sandwich came pretty dry but they did add an extra small cup of gravy for my fries. The gravy was different in the cup. It tasted like nutmeg or pumpkin or something. Not horrible but not what I was thinking. I'm surprised at all the negative reviews this place has gotten. Me and a few friends visit this place once a week after hitting up the movies. The staff has always been very polite and service is quick and efficient. After a few weeks, they remembered us and had our orders memorized too. The food isn't cheap but not particularly expensive either. I imagine it's expensive running a 24/7 diner these days and I'm glad they are there for the neighborhood. As far as the food is concerned, most of the things I've had there have been really good. Burgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, the lamb gyro, salads, most of the appetizers have all been really good and generously sized. They don't skimp on the food. All in all this is a solid choice in the neighborhood if you just want some basic diner foods. We will happily come back here every week. read more
