I really enjoy the papas and the fried pickles however the service can be hit or miss. I enjoyed sitting at the bar rather than sitting at the regular seating. Each time I went the glasses for water were either really tiny or full size which kinda of sucked since I would run out so quickly. The cocktails were decent. I did have one bad experience were the sever wasn't attentive and when asked if we wanted another round of drinks we said we were good for now, she came right back with the bill and proceeded to stare me down with the little handheld device as I picked the tip option. Due to the pressure of quickly handing back the device and signing for a tip, I felt obligated to give a much higher percentage than I usually do. Which doesn't seem right at all for the customer. They have a limited drink menu, but they are awesome drinks! Many of them are gin based to go with their theme. They also have small bites you can order. Ahoy this little speakeasy is really fun. Definitely makes you feel like you are in a boat. They have a squid tentacle chandelier and the walls have interactive displays of the water and storm. The menu has a good selection of drinks. We had four rounds of drinks and stayed for the music. The music was really bopping. The drinks weren't strong so make sure you don't get your hopes up. I thought this place was pretty cool. It had one of the most unexpected entrances for a speakeasy I have ever seen. The inside had really fun decor as well with some port holes and other nautical features. I thought the drinks were pretty good and unique, they have a lot of gin drinks, which I generally like. I would skip the food here, however. It wasn't bad, it was just underwhelming and small for the price. One bartender said he came from a meditation before coming to work so he was in such a good mood; I love it. The speakeasy itself is beautiful and well thought out. It looks like you're inside of a ship, even down to the windows looking like we're at sea and a fake sunset! The music was perfect for us millennials; early 2000s r&b and hip hop. Beware of the parking lot, certain spots require payment so be sure to look at the signs. I made a reservation here to celebrate my anniversary and put that in the notes including that we are getting married in the notes to make it special for my partner. There were quite a few spots available which was a bit surprising for a new speak easy. The attention to detail is so fun! They really went all out to make you feel like your on a ship. They have fake windows/TVs that show a beautiful sunset out among the harbor and another wall to make you feel like your below deck. That's about where the fantasy ends for me. The music choice was odd - 90s hip hop? Then on top of that it's mainly a Gin bar which is cool enough, definitely not my favorite. Surprised it wasn't rum based to go with the brand. I was able to walk in on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening without a reservation and sit at the bar. Tvs through port holes make it seem you are looking out a boat onto the water in different weather. There were also cute paintings on the wall, one of which looks like Captain Hook. I didn't realize this place was a gin joint, which isn't my liquor of choice. If you like pricey gin cocktails and a fun atmosphere this is the place for you- if you want to eat dinner, go somewhere else. We went here on the 2nd day they were open. We had high expectations because we love the grass skirt next door. I was immediately unimpressed by the means which you enter into the "speak easy" - through a curtain. When we walked in I thought the concept and decor were cute, but upon closer inspection there was visible construction dust all over the walls. We waited a long time for our drinks at our tiny table. I love gin so I was excited to see the wide-variety of gin drinks on the menu. Our drinks were good, but not great. All the food we tried really fell flat- luckily we had already had dinner and were not very hungry. The veggie crudite and goat cheese was boring and the mussels were shelled cold mussels on charred (really it was burnt) toast with mayonnaise and some herbs. This dish was just not good. Overall, we had a good time here last night but the food definitely leaves something to be desired. We had the yuzu gin & tonic, ecto cooler, mia tia, and the captain crunch milk punch and they were all great but the best two were the mia tia and the milk punch. For food, we tried the salmon poppers, halloumi fries, and the prosciutto sandwich. The salmon poppers were the most delicious thing we ate, but insanely overpriced so I don't recommend it. It's literally 3 small pieces of stuffed raw salmon with 4-5 caviar eggs on top. You get way more fish on a $13 sushi roll and this costs twice that. I'm still flabbergasted that we spent $26 on 1.5 bites of food. The sandwich was nothing to write home about and we were kinda annoyed at how hard the prosciutto was to eat, it's so fatty that you can't really bite through it so the whole thing comes out of the sandwich. Not very delicate eating for a date night-style place. My last annoyance with the food is the odd numbers for portion sizes. The salmon poppers come with 3 pieces and the halloumi fries come with 5. Considering how many people will be coming in pairs of 2-4, they really should be serving portions of 4-6 pieces each for easy sharing. It's really poorly thought out to make your menu a small plates/shareable concept and then make it tough to share. Highly recommend for checking out the lovely interior, nice service, and fantastic cocktails but do not eat here. read more

Hubby and I checked out the new Captain's Quarters which recently opened next door to The Grass Skirt. I did have hopes that when this was first announced that it would be tiki-focused. The focus here is gin drinks. The décor is all nautical, with a large central u-shaped bar, three booths along one side wall, and three-top tables along the other side wall. The décor is well done and it looks quite nice. But the layout has a lot of problems. We were seated at one of the two tiny two-tops wedged between the door and the bathroom. The table was about shin height and so small that anything beyond two cocktails and two small plates would not have fit on the table. We asked for bar seating, which was full when we arrived, so as soon as we could we grabbed two open seats at the bar. This caused a bit of a fuss, as everything is reserved with a 90 minute limit. But they let us stay at the bar, which actually had enough room for a drink and a plate. The three-tops along the side wall also have the low-small table problem. Only the large booths had adequate tables. The portholes on the wall above the three-tops showing a loop of crashing waves (à la Undertow in Phoenix) were not panoramic - like the ones at Undertow are. Each porthole showed the same exact picture, and you could see the screen frames in the porthole openings. As I said, drinks were mostly gin-focused. I started with a Captain's Orders (Genever, sloe gin, grenadine, lemon, Angostura bitters, $16). It was tasty, but too heavy on the citrus. Hubby got the Captain Crunch Milk Punch (aged rum, pimento dram, cinnamon, crunch berries, lime, $18). He described it as "forgettable". For our second round I had the Wokou G&T (a kegged cocktail of Roku gin, Sirene Aperitivo, citric acid, yuzu tonic, $16). It was much better than my first drink, but I felt like the yuzu could have been brought forward more. Hubby's second was the Fire Ship (mezcal, blackstrap rum, cold brew, lemon, pineapple, orgeat, $17). He thought it was a nice mix of spicy and coffee, well balanced. Overall, it was the best cocktail of the night. Food there is expensive and appetizer small. We had the Halloumi Fries ($12) which were a stack of 5 panko crusted cheese sticks. They were tasty. We also got the Beef Rioja ($24), which was a cube of beef about the size of one of those super large ice cubes in a small bit of wine broth with a small ring of potato puree around it. The beef was very tender but also very bland, and barely warm when it arrived. I got the Caviar Bump ($17), which they tried to serve in that silly Vegas style on your hand - I insisted on a plate. It was very nice caviar, but the serving was about a ¼ teaspoon. Note that they also do that stupid 5% surcharge on all bills. The real miss of the night was the music. Pounding hip-hop all night. So loud that I had trouble hearing our bartender and he had trouble hearing me. The music, just like at Grass Skirt, was all wrong for the venue, but perfect for the local crowd that the place already attracted. Between the music and the tiny table, we almost decided to do one drink and leave. The real hit of the night was our bartender, Isaac. He was knowledgeable, friendly, liked to talk spirits and cocktails, and gave great hospitality. If we were to come again, which I doubt we will, it would be to sit at Isaac's station and enjoy his craft. read more
