We stopped by Captain Jack's Island Grill on a Thursday night for a couple of beers, and it was a great place to unwind. We grabbed a table on the rooftop deck, which had a really nice atmosphere and was a fun place to enjoy the evening. The only downside was the seagulls--they got a little too bold and kept flying right over our heads. That's obviously just part of being at the Jersey Shore, but it definitely kept us on our toes! We didn't order any food this time, so I can't comment on the menu, but I was pleasantly surprised by the drink prices. They had a nice selection of beers, and everything was reasonably priced. Overall, it's a great spot to relax, enjoy a drink, and take in the Wildwood atmosphere. We'll definitely be back, and next time we'll have to try the food! read more

Came in for drinks on a super hot summer day with a party of 9 including 2 babies. They suggested we sit upstairs, where there was a most excellent breeze blowing across the patio. I stopped here for drinks but after seeing the menu, I knew I had to come back to try the bbq pulled pork mac & cheese skillet. SO GOOD. We also got the bavarian pretzel & fried pickles. Everything was perfect. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and says it was a 10/10 & my brother got the cheese steak which he also says is a 10. This is the most important place. A perfect hideaway if your family is on rides and you just want to be a lowkey degenerate for an hour or so. I have not tried the food. This new Wildwood boardwalk bar/restaurant has an amazing view of the ocean on both levels that it pains me to me to leave a bad review. Very cool set up but... Waitress was nice but told us the nachos were good today since the chips were not stale. Dumb me ordered and what a disappointment. The cheese was cold like out the fridge which makes me wonder how they put on the liquid cheese. Horrible We never got silverware even though I asked for them. Only half of us got refills even though I asked. We put our order in w the apps and 90 minutes s later (no they were not slammed) we did not have food. This restaurant on the wildwood boardwalk is a solid 3 stars. My food was good, although the mac and cheese and bacon in the bacon mac and cheese burger could not be tasted. Went here with a group who purchased and drank more than their share and they had a chance to give me thier fully, honest opinions of what they had ordered. Overall, the food and drink was just ok. Nothing special that was significant to come back but it is a nice area by the beach. The drinks were different and were a lil weird tasting but I can see CJs trying to change things up & make things a lil different but they fell a lil short with trying to make exotic flavors (like sweet & spicy). I thought our server came around a decent amount so she was on point, especially since our group kept getting bigger as the time went on. Lots of ample space outdoors on pier. You can see directly on the beach which is nice. Food was a little overpriced according to everyone but I wouldnt expect anything less from a sit down restaurant on the beach. I would caution people looking for a bite to eat to maybe skip the place and only come here if they absolutely need to. Only b/c the general consensus of the crowd was that it was not worth it. We arrived around 5 to 5:30pm as a party of eight, half are young children so they had to eat earlier. Don't expect awesome customer service from the hostesses. They chit chat, which I totally get, but when a customer is there, try to be a bit more engaging. We said we wanted to upstairs but we got sent around to the side which is outdoor dining. Went back to front and it's like something clicked and we could go upstairs. Uh...okay. At this point, kids got to eat so we go for it. Upstairs isn't as organized. The waitress walked around in circles trying to figure out a table for eight. I pointed out a table that would fit us and yet..circles we go..and ultimately, where did we sit? The same table I pointed out. Besides all that, our waitress was a doll. Super nice, attentive and such a hard worker. Seemed like she was the only waitress out of a fairly large group at the front area by the stairs. Food came out at a decent time. The winners were the kids mac and cheese and the cobb salad. Blew me away. Didn't expect the mac and cheese to be so good and didn't expect the salad to be so filling and well loaded with all the ingredients. It's pretty kid friendly with the cute water cups so just deal with the interesting seating experience and the food will be okay. Got the cuban sandwich which wasn't bad. Amazing restaurant!!! We sat on the top floor and had the perfect view of the Atlantic Ocean! We could also look down at the people going by on the boardwalk!! Good thing we weren't completely outside or else the seagulls would've swept down and took our food LOL!! Anyway! My food was amazing!!! I think the place was pretty clean! And I also think the staff were very professional! This couldn't have been better! Another thing to mention is that I am a high altitude plane spotter which means I watch planes in the sky. And since it was a very sunny day! I could see all the planes go by! I got at least 25 planes at that place! read more

We ate dinner at the new location above the Boardwalk Mall tonight and the food was abysmal. We had 8 people in our party and 6 people's meals were so bad they couldn't eat them. The nacho chips were so stale it was like eating styrofoam, the quesadilla was burnt black and the chicken inside was completely dried out. The lettuce in the salad was wilted and brown at the edges, the hot dog was also burnt black, and the mac and cheese was completely cold upon being served. The $17 portion of max and cheese with bacon looked like it came off of a kids menu it was so small. The only good parts of the experience were the drinks and the nice, helpful waitress. When we spoke to the manager she explained that they were short staffed with the college kids having gone back to school and they had people working the kitchen that "normally wouldn't be". I get the challenges of short staffing, but for a restaurant the key priority should be staffing a decent chef and there needs to be some quality control, especially if the manager knows the "chef" is a fill in who isn't actually a trained chef. read more

Fun place to grab a drink and some light bites right on the Wildwood boardwalk. We opted to sit upstairs for the nice view and summer breeze. The downstairs area seemed a bit blah. I haven't had a Blue Hawaiian in what seems like a thousand years, but this is the kind of place that screams "fruity cocktails". Even my better half opted for a bright, sugary drink. Our appetizers were good, and the folks from our party who ordered the wings were pleased with them. My wife and I stopped in for food and drinks at the mall location on the boardwalk. The drinks were very good and the restaurant was nice and a cool setup. The food however wasn't good, we got the nachos which was 95% chips and queso with a tiny amount of chicken. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which tasted like an undercooked frozen chicken patty with not so great hot sauce, my wife got the shrimp tacos which she said were not good either. Oh boy, where to begin. We were pretty hungry and there wasn't a wait at Captain Jack's. A lovely young lady at the front desk assured us upstairs and we were quickly seated meeting Nick our server. Nick was friendly and wanted to be helpful. He took our drink order promptly and those were, the high points of the evening. The kids had a strawberry daiquiri and a pins colada, virgin of course, and I had a diet Pepsi. I don't know whether it was the soda machine or the shape of the ice or the hot weather but those drinks tasted great. Nick helpful he brought along waters for each of us. The water was super cold with the same concave shaped ice. We ordered a burger, quesadillas and shrimp tacos. The burger was serviceable but the bun was a little old and after Nick had dropped off our food, I noticed the dirt on the lettuce. I was able to slide the lettuce off and the burger was unaffected. It was cooked to the appropriate temperature. The fries could've been crispier and hotter but were OK. Number two son found the shrimp tacos to be tasty but only two shrimp on one taco and two shrimp on the other seemed like a small portion for 20 bucks. The sauce was spicier than expected. To be fair, the menu reflected this was a spicy dish. Number one son powered through the chicken quesadillas like his life depended on it. I think that owes to him being 13 years old and interested in eating anything that is placed in front of it including shoe leather, metal, rotting vegetables at the like. He was hungry and it showed. He did remark that the cheese was nice and gooey, the dish was hot and there seem to be plenty of chicken. After we had finished our meals nick disappeared and left us with a table full of dirty dishes. we watched him serve other tables nearby and he looked like to be holding onto our dinner check. It took him a long time to remember that we were done and deliver the check. Having been a waiter I know you can get in the weeds. After He finally dropped the check off, he left the dirty dishes, making no effort to bus the table. He was a yellow shirt I guess and the blue shirts seem to be the bussers. They were noticeably absent. My fault was after I paid with credit card I did not see the fine print that had Captain Jack's charging a 3% fee on top of your bill for the privilege of using your credit card. I understand how these things work and I was under the impression that the practice had been outlawed in most states. Apparently it's perfectly acceptable in New Jersey. It was written on the bottom of the menu. I didn't notice it and it wasn't anywhere on the bill when it was originally presented to me. Looking at everything we got out of there for essentially $30 a head including tax and tip. It could've been a lot worse. The food was OK and we weren't looking for a fine dining or some thing super spectacular. Had the service been up to snuff we probably could've rang it for four stars. And Nick didn't seem interested in anything after I showed him the dirty lettuce. No apology - nothing. I was tired and didn't make a fuss. It was Wednesday night and they had a guitarist who was doing some covers and boy I have forgotten how much fun live music is. He was really great. Your mileage may vary. read more

We were so frustrated with the wait for our food to come we almost left. A solid spot right on the boardwalk in Wildwood. My girlfriend and I made our way in for a drink but stayed a little longer because we enjoyed the drinks so much.
