I had multiple problems with my purchase at this store. I bought a new stereo for my transit connect van. First I was told that they could probably use my existing back up camera. Then I got a call saying they could not use it and purchasing one was add another $300 to my bill. I was told I would get a camera that was integrated into a license plate frame, which sounded good. When I picked up the van they had put a regular back up camera where my old one was. They thought it would be better there, but never called to check with me. A couple of days after I got the van back I took a road trip, only to find that the microphone didn't work and so I could not make any hands free calls. Then the stereo started flipping back to the home screen from the car play screen. This was a real problem when I was navigating in an unfamiliar city. When I got home I took it in. They fixed the microphone which had not been properly hooked up. They told me that there was a software problem that Alpine was working on. Apparently another Cartunes store knew about the problem, but never shared the news. They said that the radio worked fine when hooked up by USB, except no one told me that there was a USB hook up. It was in my glove box, so I never saw it. I sent an email to the company and got a fast response from the owner. After some back and forth I decided to have a different stereo put in. I asked if there was another place to put the USB. There was, and I have to wonder why no one discussed this with me at the start. The other option required a $40 part. I said that given all of the problems I had experienced I felt that I should not have to spend any more money. They disagreed and I had to pay. Penny wise and pound foolish. My wife needed a remote starter for her 2019 Honda Civic. First called the dealer in Ypsilanti they quoted $870. Then called best buy they quoted $507, then called Mickey Shorr in Canton they quoted $371 installed. My wife did some more shopping online came upon this business. Spoke to Brian on a Saturday morning, guy picked up the phone on the 1st ring, told us to get the car there and he will work it in. I got there at 09:30 car was in their service bay at 10:00. Car had a brand new Viper remote starter at 11:15 I paid the man. $295 plus tax total $300.28 and this has a lifetime warranty to boot. Installer is a lady. Woman power!!! I have been going to CARTUNES for so many years to get my stereos done that I can't remember when I first went there. Probably when I bought my first car, 1959 Chevy impala SS with the big wings and a teardrop tail lights. At that time they installed a formatted eight track player AM/FM stereo and six speakers in my charger, it was tremendous!!! About three weeks ago I bought another huge truck and I have them replace the entire sound system, and again it sounds tremendous it's a small shop on the corner of Wayne in Warren roads but what is lacks in size it more than makes up for it work professionalism and quality! Really disappointed with these guys. I've been in the business of doing car audio installs for friends and acquaintances alike for the better part of the last decade. For those of you not well learned in the scope of high-end car audio, the uneducated buyer is at the mercy of installation shops such as Best Buy and the now-defunct Circuit City. These vendors only stock relatively low-quality equipment and charge exorbitant prices because they can get away with it largely due to a lack of competition. The only notable benefit being very comprehensive warranty plans, which to a newbie blasting large-wattage systems is the most integral aspect of the purchase; for obvious reasons. This brings me to Car-Tunes. According to their brash advertising approach, it would seem like a godsend to freelance installers such as myself. Here we have a selection of more obscure, yet quality brands; allowing the assembly of more cost-efficient setups through marketed avoidance of expensive, overrated names that seem to logjam the car audio field. I was convinced to give Car-Tunes a shot on my latest install. We had already acquired two subwoofers (dual 4 ohm each) and were on the lookout for an efficient, single amplifier to power them as well as some basic coaxial door speakers. Upon entry I was greeted to a surprisingly cramped interior and a lackadaisical overall selection. A salesman immediately pounced upon my customer and I. I decided I would play along, requesting a mono amplifier that put out a suitable power load @ 1 ohm. This is ideal for us, as we can wire both subwoofers together onto a single channel, simplifying the wiring process and getting the maximum wattage-per-dollar in the process Much to my despondency, this question fell upon deaf ears. The salesman was blinded by his attempts to muster a proper sales pitch to run parallel with our request (Which was clearly over his head). He initially renounced my entire concept, stating that running an amp @ 1 ohm for an extended period would cause lasting damage and would not be a wise choice. I rebutted, claiming that a number of modern amps are stable @ 1ohm, and I myself have been running a Hifonics BX1206D for over two years in such a manner. For shame! Out of decency, I decided to take a look at his suggestions. There were remarkably few options in the high-wattage amplifier department other than the typical. Laughably, his "professional" recommendation was running two SEPARATE mono JL audio amps powering each subwoofer independently @ 2 ohm each, since they didn't have any amps that appeared to be stable @ 1 ohm. In theory, this would work. The problem was that JL Audio is horrifically overpriced, and here at Car-Tunes it was no different. These amps ran over $250 a piece. It was at this point I realized we can just purchase from a wholesale online website and find an amp to fit our needs for half of what Car-Tunes was suggesting; and we did just that. We did decide to purchase the door speakers there, but as a whole I was incredibly underwhelmed by this establishment. I would put Car-Tunes over, for example, Best Buy based on inventory alone; however their isn't much else to separate these guys from the pack. Enter at your own risk. read more

I was completely uncomfortable during this whole interaction. Because i was locked in with a Groupon. I had to commit. The staff does not wear mask. They have poor customer service. I had a Groupon for an auto start install. I didn't realize they marked the price up online so you basically don't get a discount and just pay a 50 % down payment. In asking him to explain this to me he was rude to my mother. I also was told I couldn't secure the time we spoke about on the phone because I "wasn't a customer with cash in my hand ready to pay then" .. so after I got scammed into paying half of the install. I get pushed two weeks further into the month than what I was told prior. I would not recommend anyone coming here. read more

I recently ordered a MP3 player adapter online that was made specifically for my 2004 Ford Thunderbird. As a single woman who knows nothing about working on cars, I needed someone to install it for me. After reading some of the Yelp reviews, I almost passed on Car Tunes. I'm so glad I decided to give them a chance. I called them, and explained what I need. The man on the phone couldn't have been nicer. He said they'd be happy to install it for me & I made an appointment. The installation was done very promptly & the charge was extremely reasonable. Called in to see about having a remote starter installed, after discussing price (which was basically double the listed price on the website) they told me to come by and drop the car off so they could get started, and it would be ready by day's end. At the end of the day, they called to tell me that they did not get started on the car yet and to come pick it up. After doing so, I then tried calling in to set an appointment to avoid having this happen again only to be told, "We don't set appointments for this, just come by and drop the car off." After then having to set up yet another ride to get me after dropping the car off, and doing so, they install an excalibur remote starter. These guys are either incompetent or liars in that they improperly installed the remote starter for my car that messed up the anti-theft systems to the point that my car's physical key would no longer unlock the doors or work for turn-key ignition. When I called in asking about the key issues they said that it should be functioning as normal, and eschewed responsibility. Recently went to remote start (as this is the only way to get my car started now) only to find that the battery is dead, and with it, my ability to OPEN MY OWN CAR. Had to call AAA to get it open, so I could pop the hood and jump the battery, however since I can't physically turn on my car to run/charge the battery once it has been hooked up, my car was functioning as decoration for my driveway. Ended up getting it towed to a dealership to undo whatever the employees at car-tunes did to it. In summary, the people are unfriendly, the service is bad and the products don't work, go somewhere else. P.S. After telling a friend about my experience there, they also told me they had a remote starter put in at the same location that messed up the proper functioning of their car too. I went here for an MP3 Jack for my car. Not only did they charge me $124 for it, but in the process they cut up my leather on my dash (getting at the radio), and beyond that, (had to wait a week for them to repair it), the jack itself sounds like garbage. I consulted the consultant? there at the shop, and informed him of the constant noise with the jack, and he stated, "that's normal". I would NEVER go there again. Tried to make me sign the paperwork and leave as quick as possible. I did, but then noticed all the damage to my dash. Acted like I was overreacting. I wish I would've never gone here, and simply kept my iTunes Radio Jack. Actually sounded better than the Auxillary Jack that THEY installed. What a waste. read more

I called to get a price quote to have 4 amps bench tested. I was quoted $20 per amp. I called a competitor, HALF the price. And get this, the competitor was friendly!! As if they actually wanted my business!! I can see why Car Tunes has gone downhill. Between being overpriced, and their holier than thou, "I have better things to be doing" attitude, people are put off by this place. When I lived Downriver, Car Tunes was the only place I'd go for my audio equipment. Now it's the LAST place I'll go. It's sad because I'm doing a restoration on my classic car, and they just lost a nice chunk of cash that their competition is now going to get. The main sales guy here is a douche. Wouldn't quote me a price to install a head unit over the phone. My previous experience was with him again mostly seeming like he could care less if they got my business. Some of the worst customer experience I've ever experienced and I'm not one to complain, nor was I rude. They charged me around $350 to install my already purchased subs and sub amp. They forced me to purchase a custom made box for my external battery placed next to the subs and amp. Looking back I'd never go there again. The worst place to go have a stereo-navagation system installed had a system installed in May of this year system 'squelched ' every time you switched stations radio had a software problem and had been recalled but these people sold as a good system however they did replace with a newer model is what should had been installed in the first place....now however my interior lights keep coming off an on....I wouldn't recommend these people to nobody ever..you want a good radio go to Mickey Shorr. .... read more

Owner stands behind their products! I had an aftermarket Navigation/DVD/AM/FM/Sirius Satellite Radio installed with Backup Camera in my Chevy Avalanche. The first camera was a known warranty issue and failed within months and they covered it no charge. The replacement camera didn't last a full year but I was out of my 1 year initial warranty so technically they didn't have to cover the camera. The owner agreed that the product was defective and should have lasted longer so the replacement was covered at no charge. I made an appointment each time and the vehicle was quickly and efficiently serviced based on my appointment time. read more

My siblings and I thought it would be a good idea to get a remote car starter for my mom for the winter since she is older. The man I initially talked to, who wasn't the head manager, I wish I could remember his name, he was very helpful and answered my questions and I felt comfortable that I was going to a place where males are the demographic. Meaning, I didn't think I was going to be taken advantage of or overcharged because I am female. When my mom and I went to pick up the car, the other guy, tall/bald, who I think was the manager, was a tad short with my mom and acted like it was a chore to explain how to use the remote car starter for her. He was on the phone and was explaining how the starter worked. My mom asked him to write it down and he wouldn't. We went out to the car and I tried to help her but it wasn't clicking. She went back in and came out looking defeated, she had to go to work and she said she would figure it out later. I was furious. I had to go back in myself and be curt and let him know he needs to explain more clearly and he finally came out, explained and apologized. I can't deal with these non female friendly places. Customer service doesn't end after I give you my money. It shouldn't take multiple requests for you to come out and explain how something worked. Don't care how well the starter works or the price, the customer service was HORRIBLE by the manager. HORRIBLE. I felt so bad for my mom that day that she wasn't excited. read more

Not impressed. Had 1000$ of work done on my car about a year ago and right away steering wheel controls didn't work. I came back and was told I had to leave my car there for a day for them just to look at it and I couldn't make an appointment to have it looked at while I wait. So I had to fix it myself using YouTube videos.They installed a remote started that for some reason causes the horn to go every other time I use, which I'm sure my neighbors appreciate when I go somewhere late at night. The tint they installed is bubbling in a few areas and completely peeled off the driver window. Not sure if they insure it either way getting it fixed by dr tinto. To The Sales Techs and Service Techs of Westland Car Tunes, I have been to your Westland facility 5 maybe 6 times for speakers, car alarms, remote starts and whole stereo installations. I have never had a negative experience. We have mostly dealt with Jesse James. He has been very honest and decent. He finds out exactly what our needs are. That way we end up with what we should have gotten in the first place and not with what the "salesman" thinks we need. Jesse is a standup guy. Because of the way we get treated by Jesse we no longer shop around. We go straight to him for all our stereo and alarm purchases. Our last purchase was for a complete stereo system for our daughters Yukon. Jesse called to say the rear speakers looked brand new and we did not need to replace them. He saved us $150.00 ! Who does that nowadays???? The bill was already paid, he did not have to refund and cancel the rear speakers. If Jesse had replaced the rear speakers I would have never known about the excellent condition of my speakers. I later found out that my son had changed the rear speakers 3 years ago before giving the Yukon to our daughter. The service techs have been very professional with the installs. They even pointed out former stereo install wiring issues from the prior Yukon owner and repaired them. Who gives that kind of service anymore??? Go anywhere else you can. send your enemies to this store but run away yourself. I purchased a remote start for my sons car at christmas and they still can't give me an appt to install it. It is now nearly March and they are not setting up appts for christmas customers. apparently they got their money and screw me. They have appts if you buy something today but if they sold it 2 months ago go to hell. They were more expensive then other stores too and now they refuse to give me a refund or install what I bought. The idiot manager says just leave your car and we will try and get to it. Are you kidding me!!!! I was a customer before the people coming in today and the last 2 months but their obligation means nothing to these crooks. The real disgusting part is I went to this store because my son's friends father is a manager for this company. I tried to keep my money in the family so to speak and they screwed me.
