This is why I highly recommend asking for Ricardo, he is honest, knowledgeable and completely trustworthy (which isn't easy to find when it comes to car repair). This shop also has completed work fairly quickly and fixed my car right each time I've taken it here. They even fixed a problem two other shops weren't able to. Would not trust this place. Went for oil change, tire rotation and wheel alignment. They did not do wheel alignment due to something wrong with suspension. Wanted 120 dollars to diagnose. They did not do tire rotation because they said of wheel lock. Other places including a mom and pop shop never had an issue taking out the wheels. If I could leave 0 stars that would be much more accurate! Brought my car here with two issues: a noise coming from my back wheel and a check engine light. The estimate they gave me originally was close to 5000$... yes 5K. So, I said absolutely not, now somehow the estimate can come down to 3800$? Hmm .. the "noise" they heard could have been any number of small parts underneath the car, so they all needed to be replaced. This is weird? My typical mechanic told me that some parts would need to be replaced soon, but not pressing , and we could prioritize. Before I could even agree after the estimate, I call around and ask for other estimates and they are almost half of what Car-X estimated. I call back and say never mind I don't want the work done, but they say.. well your car is already pulled apart, we thought you said yes. Ok.. so now I'm willing to move forward because I feel bad about the miscommunication and I thought it was genuinely necessary, as they said! So now I'm ok with this because they offer a pay over time program which I thought "hey if it's necessary this helps a lot and most places don't do this"... I get my car back, and the noise in my wheel isn't gone? My check engine light flips right back on after driving away? This makes no sense... I go back there at least 5 separate times because since the work is under warranty I have to go here and I just payed out the ass, so they better fix it right ? Wrong! They now claim the noise in my wheel is something else (not covered) because they didn't work on that part ... HOW ? this is exactly why I came in to begin with, was never fixed, so how is this not covered and I'm 4k in??? Now the check engine light ... it's an electrical issue but they replaced the sensors and that didn't get it turned off ? But if I want the electrical work done it's 800$. They offer me a free oil change for my troubles. Thank you for that! I bring my car to another place I trust for the 800$ electrical issue and they tell me it's a 5 minute fix and should cost no more than 150$ considering the part is 130$. If you're still here I URGE YOU to never, ever, ever go here and to tell everyone in the area to never go here until they are out of business. Customer service bad. The guy from customer service desk always lies and doesn't give what he have promised. He gave me over the phone one price with discount and later after I left and saw the receipt he didn't not include any discounts. I called them back and spoke with someone else, Chris was his name, he told me next time when I come I get 10$ discount. A week later I brought my second car for oil change. Again there was the first guy (don't know his name) I mentioned him about the discount that Chris said he left a note there so the guy didn't say much. After everything was done he asked me to pay 31$ and I told him about 10$ so he just gave 5$ and said final bill is 25$. First of all I don't even know how he got 31$ in the first place. Regular oil change is 24$ with filter and everything plus tax which a dollar or 2 more and with 10$ discount should have been 16$ or so and not 25$. Anyway I didn't say anything...just know now not to go there anymore again to Car-X. When I was shopping around for synthetic oil he said that they will do for 52$, so he actually said that when I called. But then charged me almost 58$. I used this location as an installer for tires I ordered at Tire-Rack.com. The price was very competitive and they did the job quickly and competently. The mechanic took the time to review the quality of the tires I ordered with me and make sure I was comfortable. I live down the street and love the convenience, but the mechanics know what they are doing, pricing is provided up front before inspection, pricing doen't change after the initial mechanics review, and work was done by the time they initially stated. This shop will damage your car and BLAME YOU. Don't come here. I had my brother's vehicle towed here for a new master cylinder, pads and rotors, and at some point between the car leaving my possession on the tow truck and it being returned to me by the shop, the driver's side door was badly damaged - it looked like someone had backed into it. I got NO call from the shop, was told absolutely NOTHING until I came home to find that my brother had picked it up and it was damaged. I spoke with the shop manager, Frank, who is the equivalent of a human oil slick. He blamed my brother, he blamed the tow truck, and did everything but accept any sort of responsibility. His excuses were that "he thought we already knew about it" and "he showed my brother and he never said anything about it". Well, my brother is NINETEEN. WHY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DEALING WITH ME AND NOT HIM. Frank took advantage of the fact that my brother is young and this is his first car. My mother was in attendance when the vehicle was picked up as well, and Frank said nothing about the damage to her even as she was paying for the maintenance they had performed - apparently, my brother was the only one he mentioned the damage to. I took this all the way up the chain to the regional manager, and ultimately nothing came of it. My brother's car still needs $4k worth of work done to repair the damage. Car-X maintains that they were not the ones to damage the vehicle. It is worth mentioning that I have taken my own car here prior to this incident and worked with Ricardo, who was always honest and very pleasant to deal with. Usually I expect to get a sales pitch from the employees regarding something when I just go in for an oil change. However this was not the case. Staff was friendly, informed me I should probably change my air filter at my next oil change. Also showed me a leak coming from the engine, and the car only having 27k should not be leaking. My GM car had the check engine light on for a few months (I know..I know)... I was dreading taking it into a shop - these things never work in my favor. First stop was a GM dealer in Park Ridge. I'm told that a Catalytic Converter went bad (one of two) and it was going to be $1,120.00 all in....no explanation as to why, what or how...just $1,120 and you can pick it tomorrow. I said no thank you and took it to Carxx Niles where I have been taking my cars for years. The old manager (Chris) was a good guy and (unfortunately) knew me by name. The new manager (Frank) seems like a good guy too. Frank confirmed the GM dealer diagonisis - except he spent 10 minutes educating me what happened, why, and what my options were. I felt immensely better after our discussion (and the fact his diagonisis was the same as the GM dealer). $710.00 all in. Fixed that day and Frank even took the time to show me the bad Cat. Conv. and even more details as to what went wrong. I saved over $300 bucks!! I will continue to come to this place and feel good about it and would recommend to anyone. . I have 3 cars... constantly needing attention...I have been to MANY repair facilities...bottom line....ALL car shops have SOME "shadiness" about them - its just a matter of to what degree and your threshold to deal with the shadiness.... we have 2 cars, both w/ check engine lights were on. CAR1: they got it fixed, after a day of driving the check engine light was on again. came back to that place thinking we dont have to pay because they guarantee their service, WRONG!!! after arguing, they admit it was their fault they didnt run a full diagnostic on the check engine, so they fixed it. I had to do an oil change and It was the first time that i did on this car.The guy told me that my car needs a special oil and this oil is not common that's why it is very expensive.He asked me to pay 110 USD for an oil change. After i did my oil change, i called two Car-X Auto Service around chicago. Two of them told me that my car needs a specials oil but it will cost less than 60 USD. I had no idea that you did additional care service repairs. I was taking my car in for an oil change ,but didn't realize I also needed an air filter. They also replaced my turn signal bulbs . I thought that my turn signal might be broken , but replacing a couple of bulbs did the trick . Your mechanic had the know how , to turn off the the oil service light . You would be surprised how many times I had to take out the owners manual to show a mechanic , or end up doing it myself . Most of all , I would like to thank Junior , the Assistant Manager who was on duty that day ( 1/13/11) . He was very knowledgeable , helpful , and polite . Junior was not pushy , and showed me respect . I will definitely come back to see Junior for all my car needs , which there are many . I never wrote a review on Yelp or any other web site . To everyone that plans to ever visit this "place of business" I would highly suggest looking otherwise. There's even an NTB within a half block away that will provide you better service. Maybe I'm being a tad biased, but I went here in December 2010 to get an oil change and filter replacement. The next day my engine began making a loud thumping noise so I brought it back to them. As it turns out, they placed a completely wrong filter in my car, thus destroying my engine. Two months later, to add insult to injury, it turns out that during the replacement of my engine they did not wire it back together right because my car died on the highway due to this faulty wiring. After writing to the Better Business Bureau and the Secretary of State I have not heard back from Herald Granby, the Car-X regional manager who has chosen to instead plead the fifth and has not acknowledged my claims. Apparently this company is not a Better Business Bureau accredited company, shocking, I know. Do not go to this company. They have gone to Large lengths to avoid paying me back for a new battery and car tows that were all completely their fault. But I would like to thank them for the free year's worth of oil changes they offered!! Why would I ever want to go back to your company after what you have done to me. read more

Omg, this place is awful! Not only i waited 30 minutes for them to plug in the computer and check why my check engine light was on , i then had to pay 90$ for them to run the diagnostic, which took 1, and a half hour. After that they told me that my spark plugs were "dirty" and were the cause of the problem. The whole repairment which incuded the change of the spark plugs, new air filter, fuel induction service, and new oil. All of this was suppose to cost me $550. I changed my oil a month ago and had the fuel induction service done, and drove the car like twice since that time, so theres no way i need new oil. I went to AutoZone, bought new air filter, and new spark plugs, for as little as 40$. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. read more

Horrible service. I had a set of struts replaced and within 3 weeks they failed. I had another set installed and all was good for about a year. Started hearing the familiar noise in the front and since I had a coupon for a free 100% inspection from my dealer, I took it there and all they found were that it needed was belts and indeed new struts. I called Car-X and they said bring it in as the struts were lifetime warranty, so I did. They did say the struts were bad but also the balljoints and connecting links were bad, which caused the struts to go bad. I brought the car back to the dealer and had them double check everything again and they found all to be good. The service manager was kind enough to call Car-X and explain their findings but the Car-X Manager wanted nothing to do with it. I am appealing to corporate but not holding my breath. I recall years ago having a muffler replaced and I actually saw a "technician" burning holes in a good pipe in an apparent attempt to get me to replace it along with the muffler. I got the manager and showed him th pipe which was still blue around the holes and smoking, and he said it must have happened when they cut off the muffler. I told him I saw the Tech actully burn the holes in and he denied they would do such a thing but they replaced the pipe free of charge. I should have learned then. Needless to say I am never using Car-X again. read more
