Cara Vana Coffee Shop is honestly one of the best local coffee shops I've tried in a while! I hate to say it, but a lot of local coffee shops tend to miss the mark for me. The coffee can be bitter, and sometimes you order a vanilla latte and can barely taste any vanilla. But Cara Vana gets it right. Their Horchata Iced Latte is absolutely delicious! I always get iced coffee, and this one has quickly become a favorite. It is definitely on the sweeter side, which is exactly how I like my coffee, but they have no problem modifying the sweetness if you prefer it less sweet. The horchata flavor is actually distinct and tastes SO good with the coffee. It doesn't just get lost in the espresso. The shop itself is also really cute, with a modern Latino flair that gives it a great atmosphere. And of course, I love supporting Latino-owned businesses! The staff are always so kind and welcoming, too, which makes the experience even better. And I have to mention the green burrito and the salsa they serve with it. Both are a MUST try! Extremely disappointing first and last visit I walked in expecting a simple coffee, but the customer service was incredibly disappointing. The barista was playing games on his phone while I was speaking to him, and I could clearly see that he was still on his phone because of the way he was positioned. I was already frustrated by the lack of attention, but things got worse after I finished ordering. After I tapped my card, I was told that there had been a mistake and that I had only been charged 9 cents, so I needed to come back and pay again. Mistakes happen, and I would have completely understood if he had simply apologized and handled the situation professionally. Instead, he continued playing on his phone while dealing with me. The entire interaction came across as incredibly rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Customer service should be the bare minimum, especially when someone is taking the time to come into your establishment and spend their money. Unfortunately, this experience was enough to make me realize that this would be my first and last visit. I stopped at this Cara Vana Coffee Shop today around 1pm and wanted to give this place a try. I am so glad that I did. This is a very pretty, somewhat medium size coffee shop that offers a lot of great, yummy baked goods from breakfast items: fresh muffins, cupcakes, bread, avocado toast, sandwiches, donuts, croissants, and a lot more.. I received a very nice welcome from the lady behind the counter and I placed my order with her to eat at the shop. She was pleasant, helpful and kind. Ambiance was very soothing, calm, relaxing, clean and they were playing soft music overhead. They have stools and a nice comfortable couch to sit and enjoy your drinks/food. They offer a variety of hot & cold coffee, espresso, latte, tea & other beverages such as water, soda etc.. Maybe it was an off day but the drinks were not it :( I got the matcha latte while my friend ordered a vanilla latte. 2 simple drinks that should be a staple at any solid coffee shop, but they were sadly a disappointment. Both drinks were super bland, watery, and had wayyy too much milk in them. The matcha powder itself didn't seem fresh and looked diluted--usually it's a vibrant green but when I saw the tint of the matcha I was already worried. For food we got the acai bowl and chicken chipotle sandwich. Now they were pretty decent for a cafe, and I would be open to trying other food items on their menu. Acai bowl looked a bit thrown together and there were huge chunks of peanut butter/chocolate, so don't assume it's a well-crafted and layered bowl. Sandwich was alright too--the bread wasn't heated up though. Service itself was great, the girls there working were super chill and quite friendly. No problems to note here. It's also a fantastic spot for study/working as well. Ample seating (especially in their outdoor area) throughout the cafe. They close at 6pm even though the physical menu at the cashier says 7pm. I just saw on the news that you guys have been robbed three times in the last few months and it broke my heart. We moved to Puerto Rico and come back to visit friends and family. When I heard about the break ins my heart sank for this amazing, loving, giving and nurturing family. No one deserves to be broken into and stolen from, especially this family. This coffee shop participates in a platform called Too Good To Goo which offers a number of pastries before the end of the day for a reduced price, and who am I to turn down cookies, cakes and pastries? The service is just incredible. I wasn't sure if the dark haired woman (30s?) was the owner because she was just spot on in terms of service. The lavender coffee - to die for. I mean I've lived here for more than 3 decades and I am just blown away by this coffee. I got it iced, with 2% milk - there are hints of dark chocolate. Whoever is making the menu really knows their ingredients. In my bag I got three pastries - a spinach croissant which I woofed down), a small dark chocolate loaf and this citrus lemon cupcake. The lemon cupcake you just have to try. It blew me away. I'd love to have had more than one bite but I mentioned it to my kid (big mistake) and now it's gone. I had to leave the car at my mechanic on Lankershim and Vanowen, and I needed a place to sit for an hour or so. I jumped on Yelp and found Cara Vana Coffee Shop and thought, "Okay, looks nice, give it a try." So I hopped into a Lyft and here I am now on their extremely comfy shaded patio, sipping an iced Horchata latte made with oat milk. I just finished lunch here. For only $10, they made a beautiful turkey croissant sandwich with plenty of fresh lettuce and tomato and cheese and little side of cubed watermelon. They even toasted the croissant and served it on a ceramic plate! Decor here is low-key and earthy and pretty. Plenty of nice seating, including high countertop stools and couches. The patio rocks. They have a huge fan going, and there's plenty of tables and wicker chairs with comfy backrests and umbrellas. A rustic brown picket fence encloses the patio and lends a homey vibe. All the baristas are super sweet. Sometimes, baristas are just okay, but the people who work here are really, really, really nice! So glad my car needed to be in the shop or I never would've found Cara Vana. read more

It's a great spot. If it was more convenient to get to, I'd probably come very often. First of all, cute spot. There are a few seating comfortable seating arrangements. One close to the entrance and another to the back. If you want a small table, that's also an option. Coffee and food there are great. Solid spot for coffee and the food there is just YUM. They have oily foods to serve as hangover cures or healthy alternatives if you want something very clean. The variety of things they serve here is just amazing. It's even better that the prices are reasonable in this day and age while having the quality and variety. Service is solid. The workers are very polite and efficient with their roles. Strangely enough, I'm only marking it down due to inconvenience. You have to park on the side of the street (or sometimes a block away at a residential area) to get to the shop. Coffee is great but prices are astronomical! $6.25 for a bagel is absolutely ridiculous when it's 50% less elsewhere including at speciality bagel shops. Also $4 for an additional double espresso shot is insanity! Most places charge $2 or less for extra double shot of espresso. This place has done down over there years, even with consistent staff which makes it all the more alarming. The quality of drinks has gone down tremendously and no matter what is ordered it's never made or tastes consistent. I ordered an iced latte and received a cup with milk over ice and two espresso shots just poured over the top not mixed in. Seeming as the staff has been the same over the years I find it hard to believe they've forgotten how to make the most ordered menu item. They've become lazy and jaded which reflects harshly on what they're handing out trying to pass off as a latte which it is not. I just recently began to visit this coffee shop in the past few months, and honestly it can be easy to miss! It's located next to the grub hub restaurant, so street parking can fill up quickly! I placed my order on DoorDash because I was in the area. The place was kinda hard to find but that really wasn't the issue at hand. I ordered two breakfast burritos which were both really simple, couldn't eat any of the meat options because of my diet restriction so I substituted them with avocado. Okay so get this, when you order the horchata latte you have the option to make it hot or iced (included in the price), I accidentally made mine hot because I was in a meeting through zoom when I ordered it. It's hot as hell, 88 degrees at 10am and I'm pregnant and going through hot flashes. I come in and see two ladies talking, one looked at me and continued to talk to the other lady: instant thought "she's probably a customer and the server is in back"-- nope, she does a double take and says welcome in then continues to talk to the lady. So I wait at the counter for a bit and she ends the conversation and runs behind the desk and asks if I'm here to pick up. I say yes and confirm the name. She says the food is ready but she still needs to make the drink and confirms the drink and mentions it being hot. I say "Oh no, it's supposed to be iced?" And she's like "Well you ordered it hot" and I'm like "Oh that's an accident, would you be able to make it iced instead since you haven't got started on it?" She goes "Uhm, no. But I can give you a cup of ice for you to do it yourself." -- Mind you, it'll take more time doing that than to make it iced and wasting cups already. So I stare blankly and realize she's is absolutely not about to make it iced and say just give it to me hot I'll do. Ultimately I ended up needing to take myself to the table area, and make my own iced latte. Cool, now im late for my second meeting. But hey, she gave my son some bubbles for Saint Patrick's day. The barista had it out in no time at all with the cutest decor on the top of the latte - wonderful service! The flavor was not overpowering but also not too subtle - I absolutely loved the balance!
