A cute neighborhood spot. Got a matcha americano and a cappuccino. Their matcha was decent but not fully mixed--had some matcha clumps at the bottom. Also, the cashier rang it up as a matcha latte ($6.75), and I just thought it to be a little silly to charge the same price as a latte which has milk when I'm getting it with water. Whatever, it's ceremonial grade. Partner's cappuccino was good, a little too milky and less coffee-forward than I like but pretty smooth. The interior of the space is super cute! Small and intimate, well decorated, has wifi. Not a ton of tables so I'm not sure I'd post up and work here, but certainly nice for a moment to enjoy your drink. Parking situation: free lot! The place was cute. It is a nice hole-in-the-wall coffee shop that I found while waiting for my kids pizza next door to be ready. I decided to check it out and grab my usual iced Americano; it was decent. I did not think it was strong at all. Usually an American brings me back to life, but I felt it was weak. The store itself is pretty; it has some nice decor and some random speakers, and the vinyl feels like the vibe is young and hippy. It's pretty great; parking is rough here, though. Come on a crowded day, and you won't find much. I thought my experience and my drink here were just average, nothing too crazy to brag about. I think my experience was also a bit, I guess you can say, an interrupted one. When I walked by the cashier, the young man was giving this other young girl half a sandwich, and it looked like they knew each other, as they were laughing and chatting. When I walked in, they stopped, the girl sat down and ate her sandwich, and the dude did greet me, but he looked bothered, like I had just bothered him from his conversation with this girl. I ordered my drink and got it, and once I left, I could see from the window as I sat in my car still waiting for the pizza how quickly he went back to her table and began chatting it up and laughing. I don't know; that whole little experience threw me off because I felt I interrupted something. I like that I got to check out a new spot. Since it's close to my home, I could easily go back, but then again, I really do hate going back to places where I feel unwelcome. read more

While visiting my sister, she took me to this super cute coffee shop, and I'm so glad she did! The barista was incredibly knowledgeable and gave me different recommendations based on the types of coffee I usually like. I ended up ordering a vanilla latte, and I loved how he took his time making it he even added the cutest little design on top. Came in and was warmly welcomed by the cafe's barista. The shop had light music and a few small tables with a chill vibe. I had a few questions regarding the syrups and she made some suggestions that I will try the next time I visit. I decided on an iced latte with pistachio milk and vanilla bean syrup. I was going to do the chocolate syrup to get a Dubai chocolate feel, but when she described the syrups I opted for the vanilla bean. So glad to have this in my neighborhood! I go quite often and get my iced latte fix. It's always better than what I make at home. Also love that there's a GF chocolate banana bread. I don't always have a pastry option since I'm GF, and this is a good one. Other than that, the baristas are all super nice. My dog also insists we turn into that little plaza and go in. I have stopped by a few weeks ago to try their coffee but I was a little late, they had closed for the day. This place is open til 2 so if you want coffee after that gotta look for another place. Parking lot is small and busy, street parking might work better. Customer service was great. Friendly and welcoming staff. I got two iced coffees with milk to go. I liked the way the coffee tastes. Really good. By the way it was almost closing time again when I went in today so there weren't any pastries or food available. The interiors are very simple and seating area is not that comfortable but they do have two tables outside the coffee shop. Not gonna lie, but when I first walked in and saw the record player playing with the bookcase of neatly stacked records... Or as the kids say..."Vinyls" ...I thought to myself, "How pretentious. And yet, I like it." (Can't do emojis on Yelp so imagine a face palm and then a laughing with tears emoji). Super cool vibe. I liked the vocals of the singer so 8 picked up the sleeve to read who the vocalist was on this Jazzy orchestra band, while waiting to order, turns out it was the lead singer of Portishead! Ok, so now I'm digging this place even more. There's a cute little bench seating area inside and a cute patio set up outside. It's clean and they have food, but I didn't order any. Love this coffee shop! I always order an iced honey lavender latte with pistachio milk. The sweetness and ratio of milk is perfect for me meaning you can actually taste the espresso. My pet peeve is getting a pale looking very watered down latte, but this place is so consistent. It gets the ratio of milk to espresso perfect EVERY single time. There is nothing compelling about Compelling Coffee...until of course, you take your first sip. The sign is basic and so easy to miss. There's no artwork on the windows. The patio looks bare and generic. In all this plain-ness lies the greatest quality of a hidden gem, blink and you'll miss it. Thankfully on this day, I had parked right in front of the store and managed to look up for a change. I ordered my baseline for all coffee shops, a vanilla latte. Since it was warm that day, I got it iced with oat milk. By no means am I a coffee sommelier, but I know what I like and this is what I like. Their basic espresso is the perfect amount of roast...you can taste the toastiness, but it's not bitter or acrid like some popular coffee chains. There's a depth of flavor to it. It's not the kind of coffee you just wanna pour down to get your daily dose of caffeine. This is a cup of coffee you want to sip and enjoy. Another mark of a good latte, in my opinion, is the sweetness level. If I have to add sugar, that's a bad sign. The sweetness level was perfect as is. It was sweet, maybe a bit too sweet, but it's balanced by the roasted notes of coffee. The oat milk gives it a creaminess and there's that vanilla undertone to the whole thing. Above all, you know you're drinking coffee and the other flavors aren't masking it or overshadowing it. They offer more than just coffee...there's some bottled drinks and pastries. There was one huge croissant that looked crispy and light and had many layers of buttery puff, but it was the end of the day and I had already ordered lunch...but eventually I'll come back for more. The barista was really nice and we had a nice little conversation about how long they've been there while she made my latte. I was surprised to learn that it's been there since January...so many other businesses have come and gone from that spot so I hope Compelling Coffee has success. read more

Great local coffee shop! We decided to try Compelling's newest location. It's in the corner of a small strip mall/shopping center just across from Mirabelle Wine Bar. They have the basics including matcha and tea, so the menu is not overwhelming. The inside is small - good for 1-2 people. I believe there was outdoor seating, but don't recall 100%. Super welcoming atmosphere! Since this is a very active dog area I'll preface that you can bring a dog inside, but you may be asked to carry them. We were asked to pick our dog up off the floor (small 20 lb dog). But the owner was very, very friendly about it! We ordered 2 iced vanilla oat lattes - they had good flavor, but the drink was a bit on the watery side and I was missing the full body/depth from the espresso. The vanilla was not overpowering which was great! Otherwise, if you're looking for a local coffee fix you may enjoy. Hope to see them continue to build their presence within the community! read more

Tiny cafe but does have a parking lot. The food menu is really limited as is the drink menu. I got the daily brew which was okay considering that it was Colombian, which isn't my favorite and was surprising to me since they have so many interesting coffees that they had this as their brew. I suppose it pleases a number of palates. Service was very slow because it was just one person working. The seating was just a few stools and benches, so not really cozy or comfortable. Considering the number of coffee spots in LA, I will go somewhere else next time. read more
