We came from old town placentia, born and raised on real Mexican food. Trying local places for tamales and the ones at Cardenas were the worst I've EVER eaten. Pork was a paper thin layer no flavor except extreme saltiness and the masa looked and tasted like an overcooked biscuit , did not taste like masa and SALTY!! The other tamales I thought was cheese and jalapeños. I think it was some bean like substance with a little strip of jalapeño . Again no flavor , no cheese and SALTY. Picked up a tub of guacamole another mistake. It was overpowered with some type of tart juice, not lemon or lime like normal people do. I am never going back!! RUN!! read more

I've lived in Corona for almost 2 years now and Cardenas has been a huge blessing. Their grocery deals on Wednesday and the weekend are extremely affordable. I buy all of my juicing and smoothie essentials for less than $20 every time. The groceries last me 2 full weeks depending on how much I juice. They also have a hot food area where you can order a la carte, as a burrito, taco, bowl, torta, etc. So Good. The beef in red sauce; the meat was bland and the dough rawish but the one that was the worst one, was the strawberry one. So, I went to pick up a couple of items, like Carne Asada, salsa and tortillas. As I was standing in line, the largest roach you could imagine came from under counter. I informed the clerk and needless to say she looked and her response was, 'oh' which leads me to believe that this is normal. At least call someone to kill it, or pretend your shocked by it as I am. The guy behind me left before getting his order. I paid for my order and when I arrived home all I could think about was this giant roach and clerk's reaction, so there went $31 in the trash. We have many Hispanic groceries in town. Big and little. So why should you go to this one? First of all, it is right off the freeway. And everyone does the freeway, so it is convenient on your way home. It is a nicely organized, well maintained store, with good produce and a butcher counter. Their hot foods and jugos in the deli section will get you drooling. Their staff is friendly and helpful. I love shopping here. Their huge market serves a very large Hispanic community, and offers a mega selection of products. I even found fresh banana leaves there. As in, practically a whole tree's worth for under $2. So what is a white lady doing with banana leaves? No, not making tamales. She is trying to make her own Hawaiian kalua pork, that's what. And I got my big chunk of pork shoulder here too. So see? This is a multi cultural store! My reward? Fall off the bone, tender, kalua pork. Slow cooked for 12 hours, in my smoker with mesquite wood chips. Simple seasonings then wrapped in those humongous leaves. Magnificent! And now, I know where to get my ingredients next time. Cool. So, now what do I do with the rest of the tree? Walked into Cardenas Market because I was aching for one of my coworker's famous mouth watering shrimp ceviche. I've never been to Cardenas but what made me remember to go there was the awesome salsa they make (that I had a taste of at a friend's party). So the moment I walk in I get hit with the smell of the panaderia section and for a moment I totally forget what I need. Thank God for lists because lists keep me focused. For this particular recipe I needed shrimp cilantro tomatoes red onion lemons cucumber serano chile Great deals on lemons, 99 cents a pounds. cilantro is cheap as well as fresh including all of the produce. I was super happy to find the shrimp already cleaned and deveined so I bought the stuff and was eager to make the ceviche. The market is bigger than what it looks like outside. There's lively music playing on the stereo, which sometimes I wish I could understand. I so wanted to deviate and buy a bunch of random other things but really couldn't as then I would be stuck with more things that I bargained for. Would definitely go to again when it's not crowded. This is not how I wanted my cake at all the picture that was in there book didn't even have purple or orange at all. The sides were supposed to be white it was mixed with purple which made it look pink. Flags aren't even colored In perfectly. If I wanted a cake to look like this I would've put my small daughter to decorate it. Very unprofessional there was 4 ppl trying to "resolve" the problem only one of them was trying to help. One of the staff was extremely rude. Saying it's my fault for believing it was going to exactly the same as the picture. Obviously it won't be identical but I would expect it to come out decent. The Torta was falling apart as soon as I touched it to start eating it. This place sucks. The employees aren't attentive at all. There was a pole on the floor that looked like something you use to trim a tree across the isle and I almost tripped on it. Why would they leave that on the floor? I wanted a cake and I stood at the cake place looking at them while an employee printed out tickets and she didn't even say hi or acknowledge me. I finally asked her what kind of cake it was, and she rudely said "it's closed" well you could've told me that Instead of watching me look at the damn cakes. Be careful, When you walk into this place and order food from the "cocina" watch the people as they are preparing your food it will save you a trip to the ER. The older lady "MARICELA" thinks it is ok to use the same spoon for meat, beans,fried bananas, because she is to lazy to grab a clean spoon for each item. Cross contamination is a serious matter. And she still gets upset when told not to do it. I don't know who is in charge of the kitchen area, but they need to step up and watch how the workers are doing their job. I arrived at one of your locations the one in Corona Ca with my family around 10:13 a.m. on 08/24/2013 (Saturday). We were buying some vegetables and when I pulled one of the plastic bags a Wood press tortilla maker that it was on the top shelf came down and it hit my son and it hit me on our shoulders, my son shoulder is bruise and my collar bone is swollen.. One of the associates approached us and I ask him If I could speak to the Manager and he told me that I had to go at the front desk to talk to them I told him "no", I want to see your Store Manager here, so I can explained him what just happened. He went to the front desk and brought one of the Supervisors her name is Alejandra Contreras and she gave me a blank piece of paper and told me to write the incident and she told my husband and myself that we shouldn't reach for items up high and my husband told her my wife was just reaching up for a plastic bag then I myself to her that when I pulled the bag the tortilla press that is made out wood and it weight about 8 lbs slipped out the shelf on my collar bone and my son's shoulder and hit the floor with a loud bang and a lot of the customers turn around to see what happened and my son was starting to cry. I started filling up the incident report and I asked Alejandra Contreras to read it and sign it and if I can have a copy and she said "No, I'm not going to sign it is not my job" My husband asked her don't you care about the customers? and she said not it's not my job, I'm not going to sign it and if you are hurt you go to the Doctors, I'm just the supervisor, after she refused to signed it, I requested to talked one more time to the Store Manager just in case we need to go to the Emergency Room for my son's shoulder which is bruise and my collar bone which is swollen and in pain and they said that he wasn't available. My husband took a picture of the plastic bag dispenser and the tortilla press and your Supervisor also took a picture of the tortilla press on a scale and it weights 8 pounds. I never came here to grocery shop. Nor have I ever been to their bakery (I actually spotted it today and I want to check it out next time.) But I have been to their Cocina (kitchen) section! Aye Carumba! Fresh made, authentic Mexican food. Your eyes will be teased by their food there. They got some ridiculous, gigantic-sized pork rinds btw. From what I recall, their menu includes tortas, tamales, burritos, tacos, taquitos, and different flavored drinks, like cucumber juice, strawberry+guava, strawberry+milk, and the classic horchata. I gotta give this place an A+ with service. The guy who took my order described each of their drinks to me and let me have samples of each without me asking for one. Plus, they made my order quick and gave me my food with a smile. A smile may not seem a lot, but it tells me, "I made this food for YOU and I hope you enjoy it." Any way, I've only had their burritos and taquitos before. Both are amazingly tasty and good! Their burritos are huge, and I honestly can't finish one in one seating. I had everything in mine which includes rice, salsa, beans, and lots and I mean lots of MEAT! I have had both carne asada and chicken before and yum yum yum! Muy delicioso (Very delicious)! Service is great, the bakery selection always fresh and smells so good. Great prices on meat and produce, love their salsa and guac as well. I was so pleasantly surprised when I first stepped into Cardenas Market. It really is the elite of all Hispanic groceries. Clean, fully stocked, and it has a bakery, deli/grill, and tortilleria. Say what?? They have such a good selection of latin food items, so I will be coming here for ingredients after I watch my new favorite show on Food Network, Mexican Made Easy! I can get real mexican crema! I like how they make their own tortillas, tostadas, and chips. They also make salsa, really good ones! I tried the leche flan, and it was pretty good. They just need to package it better because leche flan SWEATS, if you know what I mean. Before work I stop in for the la cubana torta to go, and it is BOMB! On weekends they have menudo and pozole so I will have to try those next time. I love the horchatas here too! This store is chaotic!! it seems to be a store policy not to have sufficient or back up cashiers. The management has walked past the long lines and do not offer more cashiers! the lines have been inside the food aisles and nothing is done. This place never has enough cash registers open and when you ask someone something they reply in Spanish they are lucky I speak Spanish and the cashier girls don't know English which sucks for those who don't speak Spanish. I bought a cake from here it was good but the artist sucks. I ordered a Harley Davidson cake for my son that had flames and they looked terrible people kept asking what it was... So embarrassing!'
