I just wanted to say how #grateful I am to visit this local business all these years! The location is a walk up location where one can purchase what one wants. No seating, however wait time is minimal. I have purchased their patties when I want a snack and have used their catering services. Much thanks!!

I haven't been here for many many years, it was really nice to see the updated storefront. Inside doesn't appear to have the modern update but since it's still more of a take out spot, not a dine in - that doesn't really matter. The food was actually a lot better than I remembered. We picked up a loaf of hard dough white bread and it was so fresh. The spicy beef patty had a lot of meat inside of it, and had a perfect crispness to the outside. We also had a good curry and jerk patties, all delicious and a great deal for only $3.65 each! There was a short moving line but they served quickly. It's definitely a gem on Howard Street. I hope to go back to try their plantains and other bakery items. You can usually find nearby parking on the street so if you are in the area it is definitely worth the stop.

I stopped by this establishment while visiting my brother. For some years, he'd pointed this bakery out as having amazing Caribbean food, and finally, this visit we went. It was almost unbearably hot while we waited for jerk chicken and sides to be plated. Then we ordered 4 beef patties. I found the absolutely bored woman behind the bakery counter who checked us out to be quite funny. I'd prolly have the same attitude if I worked there. After we paid, we took the food to my brother's place to eat - there are no seats in the bakery, it's definitely a to-go spot. The patties were pretty standard and good. However, I was underwhelmed by the jerk chicken, peas and rice, and the cabbage. Given how my brother has sung their praises for YEARS, I'd expected to be blown away. I wasn't. Decent, but I've had better Caribbean food elsewhere.

These are the best beef patties I've had outside of Jamaica! The crust is perfect and the filling is savory and perfectly seasoned. I love stopping by to grab a beef patty (or 3) every now and then. I recently tried their carrot cake and it was good and I would definitely try it again. This is a 'get your food and go' type of spot so there's not much to say about the ambiance. Service is usually quick, I've only ever stood in line once or twice but the line moves quickly.

Stopped in here as part of the scavenger hunt I'm doing. It was les then an hour to closing so I'll cut the apathetic employee some slack. Very bare bones; they not have a ton when I went in because it was near closing. I did pick up a ginger cake, which was quite good (and I am not a fan of ginger). They had ginger bread (not like cookies, but like a quick bread), some cheese, and other sweet treats. I'd like to stop in sometime for one of their jerk chicken patties. The place for really busy when I was preparing to leave and I almost went back in to hear what everyone was getting! Next time. M

Make no mistake, this is the place to get a Jamaican beef patty in Chicago. I was passing by Howard St. and made an intentional stop just to pick-up two beef patties. I typically also order coco bread, but the woman at the counter shared that they are only baking coco bread on Thursdays. The beef patties are flaky on the outside and filled with spicy beef on the inside. One beef patty paired with a drink is filling for lunch or a heavier snack. The price is also very reasonable -- two beef patties were around $5. They also serve other food, but I have not ordered any of the other prepared food they serve to comment on it. This is also truly a pick-up spot only. There is no sit down area, but it lends itself well to COVID-19 best practices. Staff are also wearing masks and gloves. If you're curious about beef patties or absolutely love them, I really recommend this spot.

We got two cupcakes to share -- the purple velvet and the main squeeze. The purple velvet is ube butter cake, ube mousse, and ube cake crumbs. The ube flavor is both sweet and nutty and the mousse topping was light and delicious. The main squeeze is lemon cake filled with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a buttercream lemon on top. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the lemon! I loved that the lemon flavor was light, and the cream cheese frosting balanced it out really nicely. The space is so cute inside! It's also a lot larger than I was expecting. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables inside to enjoy our treats. I will definitely be back with my toddler for a cupcake date soon!

I especially liked the longanisa breakfast sandwich and chicken adobo. I'm so glad that they were willing to make the breakfast sandwhiches beyond 12pm for some of us waiting in line. Fyi they normally stop making the breakfast sandwhiches at noon. Be prepared to wait in line for at least an hour, this spot is super popular. I also really enjoyed the chicken adobo. The chicken was tender and I thought the hint of sweetness from the coconut flakes sprinkled on top was a pleasant touch. I also really liked the Manila fog drink - it wasn't too sweet or overpowering. For the ube huckleberry basque cake - I mostly tasted tartness from the huckleberry and not so much ube, but it was good regardless. The staff were all pretty nice. There's indoor and outdoor seating. You'll likely be able to make a friend or two from the wait in line haha. Highly recommend trying this place at least once!

I actually don't like truffle or croissant but this was flaky, and the rock sugar (I think that's what it is?) on top is so addicting. the cream truffle filling was flavorful but not overpowering -- longanisa egg sandwich + hashbrown: 7/10 just wasn't a standout for me -- mushroom adobo: 8/10 it was flavorful - I would order again but not sure it's worth almost $20 for drinks, we both got the hot yam but my boyfriend got it iced and I got it hot -- it tasted better iced but it was still lacking in ube flavor. the coffee also didn't taste strong enough for me personally honestly I really wanted to like this place more but for almost $100 for everything and the long wait, I expected at least half of the items to be perfect but I felt like only the truffle croissant felt like a 10/10 for me I will say the staff was very sweet though -- maybe it's a better experience dining in, so I think next time I will wake up early to eat inside and hopefully be able to give a higher rating :-)

I was skeptical at first because it is a local chain, rather than a singular location. However, it lived up to the hype. Service: it was extremely busy when we came in. The line was almost out the door. They have a system in place for ordering and seating so it worked well and fast given how busy they were. We didn't have any questions on where to order or where to stand when waiting for a seat. The staff were friendly and helped us find a spot to sit at. Ambiance: classic cafe in a city. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Wide variety of drink selection from your standards to the more girly-drinks (if there is such a thing). We ordered a cappuccino and small hot mocha. Latte art 4.5/5, temperature 5/5, flavor 4/5. The espresso didn't stand out to me, very standard flavor profile. However, the chocolate in the mocha was delicious. It's more of a rich, dark chocolate. Nice thin layer of foam. Would recommend to try at least once when you're in Chicago! Glad to have stopped in.

We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!
