Being from NY, it's a struggle to find GOOD, tasty authentic Jamaican food in Charlotte (no offense). Can not even put into words how surprised I was that the food was soooo good. GOAT was tender and I added a likkle pepper sauce to turn up the flavor even more. Fire !!! I should have gotten white rice but whatever the rice and peas was still good. Plantain were perfect and sweet. No hard. Not over ripe. Fried nice. The only thing I can say as a critique is to have some more D&G soda flavors. Cream soda and kola are my go to! The cook came out and watched me take my first taste. He was kind as well as all the other staff (IYKYK...attitude be wild at some West Indian spots lmao). Overall I was very pleased with the food and the folks!

Jerk Chicken was spicy good...but wasn't fresh....more bones than meat for a large.

New location is a cool vibe...but today everything tasted old. Tried a few items that are staples of Jamaican cuisine. It's was just ok at best. Had the beef patty...very dry.

    Jerk Chicken Lunch Plate-$7.75 (4/23/24)

Walked in a on Saturday evening and the lady was too busy speaking with a patron to give us standing in line any attention. The digital menu elves too quickly for me to decide so I interrupted their conversation and asked for a menu to hold in my hand. She finally asked the guy behind me, who was obviously a first timer, how she could help, and proceeded to clown him in patois to the guys sitting around. Really, you clown a guy who spends his hard earned money is your establishment???? All I needed to know to walk out. Strike 2 - No support from me.

    6.99 small Jerk Chicken

With prices going up for food in many restaurant locations, it's nice to see some places still staying the same. You honestly can't beat a lunch special for 6.99. They had the option of curry chicken or jerk for todays lunch options. There is an upcharge for Mac instead of cabbage but I was okay with it. The portion sizes especially for a small were plenty. While the jerk chicken was good, I found the sauce to be a little more on the sweeter bbq side than jerk side. Then the Mac had a nice layer of bake chrese on top. However once you got to the core, it was a let down giving me Krafts Mac and cheese vibes. But overall, the plate was great especially for a lunch special. I just know next time to stick with the cabbage instead. Clean location and great customer service as well. Would definitely return again!

Tucked away off the main road, this spot immediately brings you into Caribbean culture the moment you walk through the door. The atmosphere is warm and the food absolutely delivered. It had been a long time since I'd had truly tender, flavorful oxtail, and their Oxtail & Curry Goat Combo definitely satisfied my craving. I ordered the large combo plate, which came with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains. Both the curry goat and oxtail were packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned. I also ordered a beef patty with coco bread, and I couldn't even wait until I got home to try it. The beef patty was flaky and filled with seasoned beef, while the warm, slightly sweet coco bread took it to another level. It was the perfect combination ,10/10!

I was very pleased with my food.

I will start by saying that this place is now serving dog food. The food was absolutely disgusting…read more- everything was hard, dry, and burnt, including the cake! Absolutely zero "F's" were given in the food preparation. The textures were appalling, as if the food had been scorched and then left out for hours before serving. The only remotely edible thing was the cold, burnt plantains, but even those were barely tolerable. I kept biting into gritty bits that I couldn't even identify as food, which made me seriously question the safety of what I was eating. If I had access to a lab, I would submit it to see what I'd [really] been served. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage. To top it off, they've changed the name of the place, which just raises even more red flags. I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to do that. It's a waste of money, time, hope and food to ever go here. They disrespected the life of the poor chicken who died for this wretched soot seasoned, curry chicken slop. If my husband or anyone suggested this place I would seriously consider throwing hands. It doesn't matter what they are calling it now. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place.

Since moving to the Carolina's from up North I wasn't sure what to expect. I've have both dined in as well as carry out and the experience is always pleasant. I've had a few things from the menu but my favorite is the oxtail roti; It's a bit costly but well worth it as the meat is super tender, flavorful and the roti is pack full of meat. I also love the rice/ peas with the brown gravy and drinks are always phenomenal I've learned depending on the time of day you may be waiting for a bit but it's well worth it as everything is fresh, hot and made to order. The cashier was sweet and personable. She was multitasking, but still managed to be fully engaged in the service she provided to us. She kindly let us know what items were sold out for the day and also gave us time to look over the menu and decide on our order without making us feel rushed. While we waited for our food to arrive, we noticed a steady flow of customers all the way until closing time! It's clear Island Grill & Pub is a local favorite. The food is packaged up to go, but there are plenty of tables to dine-in once you have your food...and a big screen with movies and Jamaican music playing in the background to keep you entertained. The wait for the food is a bit long...but EVERYTHING came out very fresh, very authentic, and worth the wait. The portions were plentiful, the food was flavorful and seasoned well, and the items were priced well for the value. What we ordered: - Small Jerk Chicken plate with rice & peas and cabbage - Jerk Chicken pasta - Side order of Macaroni and cheese We wish we lived closer, so we could visit Island Grill & Pub regularly, but it's definitely on our list any time we travel to the Rock Hill area!
