The owner came out to thank us for dining in, which was a wonderful, hospitable gesture that I don't think I've encountered in a cafe setting before. So 10/10 service for sure! Little local (vegan!) baked good shop with a heavy emphasis on Scandanavian goods like semlor and rye breads. I was surprised by the varieties of both sweet and savory goods. I did end up getting the semla, which as a little dense and dry at the same time but the cream was so, so good. The chocolate on the peanut butter cookie I got tasted as good as it looked: delicious, but very melty. Manny years ago when Carinas first opened, we tried them and were not overly impressed. However we finally decided to give them another shot a couple of days ago. I specifically asked for a Heart shaped cake when placing my order last week on Thursday 11/20. I was told the job could be done and picked up today 11/26. When I pick up the cake, it looks nothing like a heart shaped. When i complained about the cake i was told by their manager that everyone in the bakery believes this looks like a heart and its all about one artist eye vs another artists eye. When it comes to shapes, there is no such thing as an artist eye. Its a shape. I ordered the 2-person holiday meal kit for Christmas and each and every item was absolutely delicious! The portion sizes were very generous as well. I received the veggie pot pie, 3 sides, the apple caramel cream pie and some extra items. Every item was made with such care and high-quality ingredients. It was all so incredible and a great value. Carina' Bakery is fully vegan with many gluten free options. They have savory and sweet and lots of options of both. Our favorites are their pistachio cake, almond cake, brownies, and cupcakes. I also live that they have hemp milk as one of their drink options (plus oat, soy, & coconut). The staff are very friendly and kind, many have visual impairments (there is a sign about it). There's also a little window along the counter where you can see the staff dog, if he's in. My daughter always hope to see him. Came here because I'm celiac and reviews stated GF options. The worker told me that it is not celiac safe which is a very common thing. The way she said it was in such an awkward and uncomfortable way though, almost like I was being lectured. Maybe hire or train employees better in how to handle those conversations. I'm gluten free, but not vegan and wanted to give this local spot a try. Mind you I only tried the cupcakes during this visit. Surprisingly to people who are not GF, GF cakes are honestly better than regular flour cake desserts due to not having that added protein. They're always fluffy, light and moist. However here, and it may be due to the vegan component, these cakes were very dense. Almost like a corn bread or even more than that. It was not a pleasant texture. The icing was also too sweet--which I've heard is a trend w vegan dessert--maybe the creaminess of dairy cuts the sugar flavor, but I wonder if adding a little citrus to the icing would help. I wanted to like this place so much but it really fell short, I got the pistachio cake and version of a cinnamon bun and both had a very weird flavor I can't put my finger on it, I do a decent amount of baking (vegan too) and I'm not sure if maybe I just got a weird batch? I have tried to go hear numerous times, but it seems as though are schedules just weren't jiving. We finally had a free moment mid-day, mid-week, and decided to get some pastries. I was so excited to check this spot out since it is so close to my home and I have quite a few vegans in my life. I thought at first that it was a cafe but it is more of a simple bakery. Me and a vegan buddy wandered over not long before closing so they probably have a lot more options during the day. They still had quite a few cookies, cakes and such. We grabbed a bit of an assortment for later and Carina was super sweet in telling me which cookies to consume quick to avoid the mush factor. Every time I've been here the service has been quick and wonderful. The workers and Carina are a treat. Coffee has been good and never burnt. I am not usually a fan of GF flour so I usually go with the cookies instead of branching out into the "bready" things- though the almond cake I had was really good. The dessert was OK, but the problem is that when I look up 'sugar-free bakery's' this was the first to pop up and as a diabetic I was ecstatic. When I got to the bakery I asked if they had any sugar free items, but they said that they "aren't really a sugar free bakery."
