I LOVE cooking my own vegan, gluten free desserts. I stalk ALL of the alternative baking blogs. I can have an in-depth conversation about the comparative qualities of various types of egg replacer. And you can bet I've tried every commercially available product around, from the Saturday Market in Beaverton to Petunia's in downtown Portland. Carina's Bakery is THE BEST I've had, compared to my own cooking or anyone else's. Often vegan gf products use excessive sweetener to cover an otherwise uninteresting flavor palette, but everything I've tried at Carina's so far has a wonderfully complex flavor. In search of yummy vegan treats, I visited Carina's Bakery for the first time today and I was blown away! The selection is amazing and the pistachio cake I ordered was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I was so impressed to see that they had white chocolate coffee drinks, something I've missed dearly since going vegan. They also have a pretty good selection of gluten free offerings. I could not have had a more pleasant experience here. I had Carina's cupcakes at a friend's child's birthday party and they were delicious, so I knew I'd order them when it was time for my kiddo's birthday. Carina answered my questions via email and made the ordering process super smooth. I have celiac and am always a bit nervous ordering from places that do GF and non-GF food, but I had no problems with these - obviously they observe good protocols. Also they were TASTY. I asked for non-specific halloween decorations and was so pleasantly surprised at how cute and well-done they were. 10/10 will order again. (I got the pepperakator and chocolate). read more

Having lived in the Lascala building while Carina's was opening, we were excited to see a bakery come to the building. We anxiously awaited the grand opening, when the bakery did finally open, we were quite disappointed with the bland, lifeless cookies and snacks. With the understanding it may take some time to get everything going smoothly, we went back a few times, but the quality and taste just never improved. In time, Carina became the talk of the building due to her attitude and sense of entitlement. When Carina got her service dog, she refused to pick up its poop. She would simply open the back door of the building and let the dog out on a long leash while she remained in the building. The dog would do its business and Carina would just leave it there for other residents to deal with. In time, the back entrance to the building was like a mine field of dog doo, difficult to navigate by day, impossibly at night. Carina put up a nasty fight, maintaining that her disability negated her responsibility to pick up after her dog. When another resident pointed out that completely blind people have a system for picking up after their seeing eye dogs, this still did not shame Carina into picking up after the dog. In time, the novelty of the dog wore off, and Carina is seldom seen with it. Just about anyone other than Carina is seen with it now. Carina has also laid claim to the buildings only handicap parking space which she uses to store items for the bakery, and to park her bakery van in. This van is often not driven for several weeks at a time, and is most often used to store bakery materials in. Carina gets free, exclusive use of the handicap space and refuses to allow anyone else in the building to use the space, no matter how great the other resident's needs may be. In one case a resident had leg surgery and very much needed the space, Carina refused to allow the recovering resident to use the handicap parking space, so the resident in need was forced to stay with a relative while convalescing. The injured resident and Carina knew each other from college, yet Carina refused to help her. There are untold numbers of incredibly disabled people among us who do not ask for the accommodations Carina demands. Warriors with missing limbs go about their lives neither asking for, not accepting an easy way out, yet Carina demands these accommodations and places her selfishness above all others. From free parking spots, to free advertising, Carina has mastered the art of using her poor vision to get what she wants. Carina's bakery is without question, the place to go in Beaverton for a dull, lifeless treat served up by an overly entitled individual who has mastered the "ABILITY in disability" to skate through life, placing herself above all others. read more

The food and baked goods looked delicious however there were hairs in my danish, and the young woman working used her bare hands to place it into the container. The middle of our mushroom pie was still cold. When getting our coffee prepared, the young woman proceeded to use her bare hands to place the lid on our drinks. Appreciate the veganism and overall mission but the health code inspector should pay a visit. read more

I can't say enough great things about Carina and this place! My husband is vegan and so I was looking for some vegan cupcake options for his birthday which was 2 Days from when I contacted carina. She didn't have any cupcakes but without hesitation was willing to make a special order by when I needed them. My budget was a little tight so she was willing to work with my budget and quantity needs! Not to mention the cupcakes were DELICIOUS! So moist and you couldn't even tell they were vegan! Ordered a birthday cake from here. I'm a vegan and eat vegan cakes regularly and this was the worst cake I've ever eaten. It wasn't even edible, we all took two bites and couldn't eat any more. This was very upsetting since it was for a birthday party. Also it was $70. Which was crazy expensive to begin with and just outrageous considering the cake was inedible. I'm very disappointed. It wasn't even decorated well either so it wasn't pretty to look at. read more

I arrived super early at the social security office and the line was long and no dry place to wait. Since I was lucky to snag a parking spot, I walked to Carina's around the corner for a mocha with almond milk and almond cake. Very cute, clean place. Everything else I saw walking by was closed. Carina's appears to be an allergy friendly bakery. One suggestion, as my son used to have a lot of food allergies, list the ingredients on the tags so people can more easily determine if it's something they can have or not, or perhaps a little ingredients book? But for me, it has been a great place to wait for SS to open and gather my courage for what will likely be a long morning. I was do excited to see this place open up! I finally got to try it this morning. They are super friendly, the place is adorable, and everything looks amazing. I got the almond cake, which she said is one of her most popular items. It's stellar! I also got a cardamom roll to taste and definitely recommend that too. The coffee is super good. My visit to Carina's was disappointing. The cookies were quite average, but were soggy and served in a wet paper bag. Carina had washed her hands, did not dry them, picked up the cookies with her wet hand and put them in the paper bag that was of course wet because it was in her other wet hand. As much as I want to like this place, I just cant. There is a lot of potential, but Carina needs to start running the place like a business rather than a tax deduction. read more

$70 dollar cake worst cake I've ever tasted. I've eaten vegan cakes from other bakeries that were delicious. This was inedible.

My wife and I were thrilled when we discovered that Beaverton now had a vegan bakery! We have become regular customers and all the ladies that work are so nice. Not to be missed are the almond cake and the carmelita bars. read more

I am so glad I finally visited this bakery. The two gals that took care of me today were wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable. I got a box full of goodies to take home, a cinnamon roll and 8 cookies of all kinds. I just tried the cinnamon roll and the lemon ginger cookies and I am so impressed. The taste and texture are perfect. The sweetness is subtle. Quality of this level up to now would only be found at a few places in downtown Portland. We stopped in today for the Grand Opening after going to Batter Up and it being closed. We got 2 sausage rolls and a cookie. The rolls were cold and tasted horrible (my mom and I each had to spit out it tasted so bad) and the cookie was just ok. An extra star for the nice ladies working there. Upon walking in to the store I'm greeted by group of flies buzzing above the baked goods. I ordered an iced americano, which was decent. Upon paying for the drink I'm informed that its actually $0.50 more than advertised because they have to use ice and a different cup. Additionally, when paying with a card it's an additional $0.50 for any order under $5 dollars. It's safe to say that I will walk two blocks further next time to the clean coffee shop down the street that advertises there prices accurately. read more

I discovered Carina's Bakery this weekend and went back this morning. So far I've had chai lattes and almond bread, and both were delicious. The staff are friendly and there's a surprise dog house under the counter. Really nice place. I plan to become a regular. read more

My gosh, those cinnamon rolls!!! They are different than your usual doughy version...these are flakey and buttery, though no butter, so how do they turn out so delicious? I do not know their secret, but I do know I can't wait to have more. I also got a coconut milk cardamom latte that was tasty as well. read more

Being very sensitive to gluten, I am always on the lookout for a good place to eat. I heard about Carina's from a friend. I tried the chocolate cinnamon crinkle cookies. Yum!!! The ginger scones are very good. The cardomon orange shortbread very good. My husband had the vegan Scandinavian sausage roll and said it was a definite do over. High praise from him. I live in the neighborhood, and I decided to try the new bakery and sandwich shop. I am not vegan , but my daughter is, so I was excited to tell her. I went in to try some of the goodies and a coffee. The Sutter snicker doodles were delicious! It was an added bonus when I found out Carina is Scandinavian. She is Swedish and I am Norwegian. I saw the traditional Scandinavian goodies that I can order for Christmas. I will be ordering for Christmas, for sure! I really love the bright and cheerful décor of the bakery. OK... Y'all have gotta try the lime mint ginger!!! Oh and the lemon ginger! Don't even get me started with the pecan bread! First time I went there and I bought some cookies for my children because they are lactose intolerant. I hadn't opened up the treats up since I'm not really a sweets person. But later my son came marching into my room with the biggest smile on his face and offered me some cookies. At first, (this was lemon ginger) I was all like, they gotta chill with the ginger, but after eating more I kinda fell in love. I then tried a bit of the lime mint ginger and DAMN, the texture and taste kind of resembled the best cookie Iv'e ever had in my life. I later came back for some more cookies and decided to try their pecan bread. oH loRDy it was so enjoyably soft and pecany and bready and everything you would ever want in life. Great quality, decent pricing but most of all, VEGAN. My children can enjoy these products without any worrys and I can also eat some without thinking about the nutritional repercussions.
