We never stop at Carl's Jr. but the line for In-and-Out was ridiculous and we just wanted to eat and get on our merry way. Carl's Jr. had no line so the choice was easy. Worrying, but easy. I haven't eaten at Carl's Jr. for at least a decade, if not longer. I was shocked by how expensive everything was and what a lengthy menu it was. But ordered: a Western Bacon Cheeseburger meal (with waffle fries), a Famous Star with Cheese, a Beyond Famous Star with Cheese, a side of fries and a side of onion rings. I loved my Beyond Famous Star and was pleasantly surprised that they had a veggie option that tasted so good. I also loved the side options - not just fries, but the onion rings and waffle fries were proof that variety is the spice of life. All in all, it was about $36 and arrived hot and fresh (we were asked to park in a space so she could bring it out to us when it was ready and only a minute or two later, our food was delivered). All in all, a very positive experience and a good spot to stop on the I-5. read more

We were driving home to L.A. from Sacramento and had to have the obligatory Fuel Up. For the car and the humans. The wife LOVES Carl's Jalapeño Poppers so she found our lunch. Due to COVID we still are not eating indoors so it's drive-thru. We ordered chicken tenders and the Jalapeño Poppers. The chicken tenders are real tenders (not mashed and formed) dipped in batter and fried, The are definitely one of the best chicken products in fast food places as far as I'm concerned. They are served with your choice of sauces and we always get the Buffalo - which is pretty good. The poppers are jalapeño peppers stuffed with cheddar, breaded and fried. These things are the bomb! We always get the big serving (9) and share. So because we ordered everything from the fryer they got a little overloaded and asked us to move the car to a spot near the front door to free up the lane and we did. Just a couple of minutes later hey delivered our food to the car. This was the HOTTEST, FRESHEST, fried food you could ever have. Everything was perfect. There is nothing that could have been better. We don't always want to wait in the long lines offered by in-n-out and this Carl's Jr. is delicious! skip Popeyes and enjoy the hand breaded and fried chicken sandwich without the wait, a delicious hamburger, or grab a burrito or taco salad, everything you want without the annoying crowds! We just stopped here on our way back from Monterey. Both my husband and I are vegetarian. We were in the mood for a Beyond barbecue burger, they were delicious! The best we've had in a long time, hot and fresh and moist. Since I hadn't had one in a while, I was in sticker shock when I heard the price, but if I have to pay that, at least it was worth it! Nice staff, we were asked to pull forward to keep the line moving, they brought it out to us within 2 minutes. We'll be back on our trips down South. read more

No respect for trucking drivers, sign clearly says they're open and they locked the doors early. Both women working inside made eye contact with me after waiting outside for 5-10 minutes. They then proceeded to ignore me and pretend i didn't exist. These people don't even have the decency to tell me why or that they were closed and had me standing outside waiting out in the cold like a dog. This is the help and service you get when they demand $20 an hour minimum wage to work at a fast food franchise. With no other places nearby open later in the night; How can we avoid eating chips or snacks for dinner instead of a hot meal? How is a fast food place adjacent to a truckstop with a 24 hour drive thru for cars closed early to walk in customers that park next door? On this instance the dine in closed before the posted time on the door. Us truck drivers cant walk in or drive into the drive thru. Just a couple years ago we were "Heroes" and "Essential" ever since then they've closed dine in for truckers everywhere to get something to eat after a long day on the road. Moving everything that is bought and consumed in this country and spending weeks away from our home and family to make a living and this is the appreciation we receive. Stopped by to try the Beyond Meat Famous Star. Order taker was incomprehensible. Could understand my order either, for milk. A real problem. Amazing how much better the order taker at the Carl's off the Coalinga exit is. Transaction done in thirty seconds, not three minutes of trying to understand what on earth the Santa Nella employee was trying to say and asking other customers what she was saying. The burger was entirely okay especially with all the trimmings, but I think I like the Impossible Burger better, especially if it's done medium rare and oozing beet juice. Next time I'll go to the In-N-Out on the other side of the interstate where they speak and understand plain English but you have to eat real meat. I'm okay with that. read more

stopped here the other day to buy a snack and saw they had chili fries. i went with it as the pic on the menu in the drive thru looked bomb. I opened my box and i was greatly disappointed. there was only enough cheese to cover half the fries and maybe about a teaspoon of chili over it. i was driving my big truck so it wasnt worth the time or gas to go back and complain. i feel the overall quality of this fast food chain has gone to the dump the last several years and this reminds me why i stay away. Maggie Aguayo is one of the nicest front counter employees we have ever experienced at any fast food restaurant. This was our first ever visit to this Carl's Jr. We ordered a original six dollar and an original grass fed for lunch. The burgers were very tasty, but it was the smile and cheery service from this lady. Thumbs up to whoever hired her. This is the kind of employee that any restaurant in the service business is looking for. My wife and I travel the world. I write good and bad reviews as may be needed for other travelers to read. I believe that bad service should never be rewarded or allowed to be repeated. Similarly, outstanding service by anyone that 'makes a difference to others' should be recognized. I spend quite a bit of time driving the 5 between Bakersfield and the Bay Area and one thing I have learned is it can be hard to find healthy food at a reasonable price delivered quickly and efficiently. I am just as surprised as you are that Carl's Jr is the place that finally fit the bill. The employees that run the drive through are friendly and efficient allowing you to get your food and get back on the road with only the smallest possible interruption to your travel plans. The one time I went inside the restaurant the restrooms are clean. Now for the food. Nobody thinks of Carl's Jr. as being a healthy fast food alternative. To be honest, the first thing that I think of when I see the big yellow smiling star is an order of bacon cheese fries and/or a Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger. If you look carefully, though, the menu actually provides you with several healthy options like the Cranberry Apple Walnut Salad or the Original Grilled Chicken Salad. For those looking for a healthier sandwich option, you can choose from the Charbroiled Chicken Club, Charbroiled Santa Fe Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich, or the Charbroiled BBQ Chicken Sandwich. What the menu DOESN'T explicitly mention is that you can order any of those grilled chicken sandwiches encompassed within large, crisp fresh lettuce leaves instead in a bun. This is a great option for those choosing to eat gluten free or low carb diets. Ask for it as a lettuce wrap, as they give you a funny look if you try to order it 'protein style'. My favorite item to order is the protein style (lettuce wrapped) charbroiled teriyaki chicken sandwich. I ask them to hold the mayo and cheese and add only half the usual amount of teriyaki sauce so my sandwich comes with grilled chicken, lettuce, grilled pineapple, teriyaki sauce, onion, and tomato. Dining room clean. Terrible service, as the employees were YELLING at each other in front of guests, interrupting the order taker who was trying to speak with them. Just rude and wrong.
