We finally tried Carlyle grill and we thought everything was good, but nothing was great. My husband had a New York strip steak which was cooked beautifully and was good. I ordered the French Onion soup and a house salad with chicken. The soup was the best part. The salad was fine. We did enjoy the bread very much so. read more

We did not initially plan to come in, but we were so glad we did. We went to a movie at the theatre next door and decided to check out Carlyle. We sat at the bar. We were greeted by two friendly bartenders; a woman and a man. I ordered a beer and my husband went with a cocktail. My husband ordered the chicken club. It was terrific. The chicken was tender and juicy. The fires were so good. I wasn't very hungry, so I just went with a side of mashed potatoes with beef gravy on the side. It was also amazing. They don't have a ton of beers on tap, but they have a nice selection of bottles and cans. They also have a great wine selection. After my beer, I went with their featured Cabernet; also excellent. We plan to come back and try out more of their menu. read more

I enjoy the Carlyle - better than average food. But the Restaurant is Non-Compliant with 2 Health Department Violations from months ago. Dirty surfaces and utensils apparently ( see reviews on google). Their burger tonight was very good but the Shrimp Cakes were disappointingly dry crisp and needed a steak knife to cut. Are they deep fried twice? They ought to be plump, moist, more flavorful and fork tender! 5 stars means perfect right? Tonight they net out Average - 3 stars. I did not ask anything to be removed from my bill, I don't make a fuss when I'm out with a friend. But let the restaurant describe the way they come out so the public will know? We do takeout frequently. Ordering by phone is easy with pleasant staff. Food is delicious and ready quickly. The Greek salad is huge and full of a variety of fresh veggies. Pick up is easy with designated parking and someone to bring it to your car. read more

Friday night at Carlyle. What can I say? A mix of fast order and gourmet. Ordered an appetizer, the next time the waitress came by we ordered our entrees. A few minutes later our entrees came out, followed by our appetizer a few minutes later! WTF! This isn't that hard unless you are a fast order cook. This isn't supposed to be fast food. I ordered the shepherds pie. Came out barely heated. Sent it back while my wife's meal got cold. The second time was warmer, but still not hot. It was also a little greasy, more like shepherd's gravy. The best part of the meal was their copy of the Common Grill's bread rolls (actually pizza crust). For the price too hurried! read more

Very good first visit! Hubby got a Cuban sandwich and the depth of flavors in the pork was amazing - started out as a bitter orange taste and then morphed into a garlicky herb flavor. Sweet potato wedges were thick and possibly baked instead of fried. I had the Chinois salad. Bed of spinach and romaine lettuce topped with a giant amount of fried wontons along with some diced cashews, sliced chicken, and sesame seeds. The best part - the amazing salad dressing! The only bad part was that they make their own salad dressing and I can't buy it in a store. We WILL be back! read more

We decided to try a new place in AA, so we dined at the CG. It is a beautiful place with decent ambiance. The staff was friendly as we entered. The table service was a bit slow, but my wife and I were enjoying our discussion so it wasn't a big deal. After ordering, the salads and mains took a long time. Upon arriving, the food was cold. We asked if it could be warmed up and they obliged. When it came back, the food was really bland. No taste, no seasoning. Very average. I believe our server noticed that we didn't eat much of the meal and offered a complimentary desert. We declined, but it was a nice gesture. This place is too expensive for average tasting food. I got the BBQ Combo Platter and my hubs got the Newport Salad. We made reservations, but had to wait about 10 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering how packed the place was. We ordered an appetizer of Carlyle Poutine, which I had never heard of before. It was really different, but delicious and full of rich and savory flavors. It was followed by fresh, hot garlic bread with creamy butter. It was melt in your mouth. The Newport salad had what looked like hand breaded chicken strips, which were very yummy and my husband wasn't able to get through it all. The dressing he picked was honey mustard Dijon and house made. I throughly enjoyed the combo platter- I chose the shrimp and ribs with sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes. It was great, but I would have preferred the shrimp with a dry rub or seasoned rather than straight BBQ sauce for more variety. The spinach was well cooked with chunks of garlic clove and the mashed potatoes were excellent. My only slight criticism was my water ran out a few times and I had to ask for more. This is a great place to eat, extremely consistent in the quality of their food. Great ambience. Great selection. The service has always been excellent and the wait people are very attentive. I love two of their salads, I think it's called a Newport, the other one is fried chicken salad. They're great. Their mac and cheese is unusual and wonderful. It has a lovely crust on top. This restaurant reminds me of many places I've been to over the years when traveling on business, hotel restaurants or steakhouses out by the airport. It looks pleasant enough and the menu seems to offer plenty of solid choices, but the food itself is just not good, and certainly not delicious or worth the price. Our party had the calamari appetizer which was rubbery, watery, and cold in the middle, suggesting it had been previously frozen and not thawed fully before being breaded and fried. It was served a plate of raw baby spinach leaves with some capers and chopped up red pepper and artichoke hearts, floating on top of a weird puddle on the bottom of the plate of a blander, watered down version of ranch. Really odd choice to accompany calamari--and not a good one. Then we ordered the ribeye, medium rare. I don't know how they managed this, but one half of my steak was over cooked and the other was undercooked. The whole thing was not seasoned at all and it was just kind of chewy and sad. The side of broccoli contained mushy browner broken bits of broccoli topped with huge pieces that were raw in the middle and not fully steamed. Zero seasoning yet again, with lots of water slopped on the plate from the broccoli and running under my steak. To top things off, the steak and sides were served on a cheesy rectangular platter that was too small for the meal and looked like something that apps would be served on at TGI Fridays, not at all appropriate for a $40 steak. The platter was cheap and off kilter and spun away from me every time I tried to cut the steak. Out to lunch, party of five. Props for their good service in these crazy times with reduced staff! The hostess and waitress were both spot on, professional, and attentive without being overly attentive. As far as initial beverages, the Cranberry Margarita was the bomb and a great start; they gladly substituted the Patron for my favorite tequila. Sadly, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. I love French Onion soup with that bubbly, crusty cheese top; in this case, the soup was hot, but the cheese on top barely melted and lacking that crusty, bubbly browned top. The Caesar Salad was sooo overdressed that the lettuce was limp. The Apple Cranberry Crumble sounded like a super idea, but the fruit was not sweetened nearly enough, and the crumble lacked flavor and, well, being crumbly. Such a cute local place. So happy we found it. Reasonably priced and the portions are HUGE. My husband got the rotisserie chicken and I got a cheeseburger and Carlyle salad. Everything was yummy. The cocktails were great - not knock you over overpowering. We got cheesecake for dessert with a raspberry drizzle and fabulous Oreo crust - delicious! Our server, Ashley, was terrific. It was ok here but you will not find food nirvana or anything. Our visit was a minute back but I have kept forgetting to write it up until I spied MaryLiz had. I wish I had gone after her review. We did not manage to get in for happy hour which kinda sucked. Be warned the seating is limited so do not get your heart set on anything. Kinda put us in an iffy mood for our meal. I thought the flat iron was overpriced and I am uber picky about steaks so I did not order it. The steak frites was a bit too spendy too (its a sirloin) but it did not stop the hubs. Tasty, cooked to order, but nothing special for my taste. I'm not a particular fan of the cut though, husband was happy enough. Sorry but pricing around twenty bucks for lesser cuts of steak is not reasonable. If you want meat, that 23 buck ribeye is the way to go IMO. I don't get the logic here at all, makes no sense to me, how is a sirloin or flat iron in any way in the same range as a ribeye?. I had the low country shrimp and grits. Not a fan of shrimp on skewers as it does dry them out horribly. I don't think they cook them too long, they just cook them wrong. The grits saved it for me but they should have specified that the shrimp is on skewers on the menu as I would have never ordered them. I said something to our server and got an eyeroll and asked if I wanted something else but given the time it took for everything I decided to suck it up and deal. Meh. Other than that moment the service was fine. The atmosphere here is nice. I just was not in love. I wish they were just more interesting and took care to describe things appropriately so there is no surprise. read more

My family and I came from 4hrs away to visit Michigan and came across this spot! The food was good, but the service was a tad disappointing especially because we made such a great connection with our server from the beginning. When ordering we specifically said no mushrooms on a dish, however, the dish ended up coming with a ton of mushrooms. We had to wait awhile for it to be recooked and brought out, by that time the other foods were cold. Then we also had to remind our server that one of us ordered a soda with our food. It never came until halfway through eating after reminding her. I also waited a really long time for water refills. The place was definitely not busy either, so overall it was again disappointing. I've been to Carlyle several times. When the place is packed, it's harder to follow the conversation, but if you can get a booth you'll be better off. When you order calamari here, it comes with minimal breading and artichoke hearts, cucumber and capers. A real change from the usual calamari appetizer. The onion rings were huge and crunchy, made with Vidalia onions. The thick, fruity dipping sauce was called "curry catsup" on the menu. I thought it complemented the crunchiness of the onion rings very nicely. The trend I see here: Good recipes occasionally marred by inattention. When we dined recently, hubby's salmon looked very attractive. It even had that crispy crunch salmon gets from being grilled over flames. But it was too salty. And my skewered shrimp had spent a little too long on the barbie. The cheesy grits the shrimp sat upon was great. (The place was packed on Mother's Day, so that HAD to contribute.) One other time, some prime rib arrived with an obvious cayenne lilt. Interesting touch, but we all thought it was a bit too strong. I admit, I'm VERY fussy. I notice all the subtleties of food preparation. If you can overlook an occasional whoops, it's a good place to bring a group when you have some members that don't "do" ethnic restaurants. read more

There are certain places that are simply special. They meet all of your expectations and more. This is one of them. First - the food is always good. Period. You can tell it is quality and prepared with care. Also, the serving size is generous. Second - amazing service!!! Everyone is soo friendly and sooo nice. Last time I went Darren was our person! He was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, hard working, and simply the best. Third- relaxed atmosphere. Good location. Nice that it is close to the movie theatre. Good parking options. No kid coloring activity offered. But really cute cups and straws for the little ones. Fourth - lots of food options. Also, I took a peak at the wine list and it looked good too. Fifth- they have a private room for events. We have used it in the past and was perfect. This is good go-to spot. Definitely a favorite. read more

My feelings about the Carlyle are pretty much right down the middle. The service is good, and the feeling of the place is a little classier than I would expect a restaurant in a move theater parking lot to be. I have had some really delicious salads here, but the entrees are usually "pretty good!" but not amazing. Tonight I had the salmon, and it was pleasing, but nothing about it really stood out. The vegetables it came with were fine, but seems to be more for color and presentation than actually containing much taste. Still, like at a lot of restaurants, the portions were big enough to allow me to take some leftovers home, which means that I got 2 meals for the price of one - a decent deal in my book. And, when I inevitably forgot my take-out container on the table, the waiter brought it to me the moment I turned around to go back for it. Whew, thanks! Another nice midweek visit at Carlyle's. For the southwest/Ann Arbor/Scio Township/Dexter area, the Carlyle offers a great combination of dining atmosphere,  menu and value.  Favorites are the Steak Frittes, the Prime Rib & Grilled Salmon. Every visit, the Calamari is a favorite. The 'Carlyle Salad' (basically a Cobb Salad) is a good side to any entree. Calamari here is very good and a little different than typical calamari presentation.  Yes, it's deep fried (in a very light batter), but the meat is larger-ringed, very tender and best of all... served on a bed of softened spinach caressed in a very delicious aoili (lemony, garlic, olive oil) accented by capers and small bits of red/green pepper. My steaks are consistently good. About 8oz. for the steak frites selection. Cooked perfectly for my request of medium rare and spiced deliciously.  Warning: the micro thin fried potatoes are dangerously delicious! The salmon is a very healthy slab, grilled, but moist, flavorful and lightly accented with lemon & dill and some grilled zucchini, yellow squash & red potatoes alongside. Great for Birthdays. This place is great!!!! I was back in town and was trying to figure out a place to have my friends meet me. It is IMPOSSIBLE to have a bunch of people find parking in downtown A2 on game weekends, so I decided to have them meet me here, and I am so glad I did! Do make a reservation, since they were very busy on a recent Friday night. A great value here is the soup & salad. It is a huge serving for a very affordable price. My friend who ordered it couldn't believe how much food it was! The best part is that they will leave you alone to catch up with your friends and talk for hours (if that's your thing!!). We were never rushed along and the service was excellent. It is easy to park (especially when compared to downtown) and has better prices and very delicious food!!! Enjoy!!! read more
