I had an oil change last week which I had an appointment for. The mechanics told me it would take 2 hours, but it took 4. They told me my car was in perfect condition. In my paperwork it says "check fluids and top them off" so imagine my surprise when my check engine light comes on less than a week later telling me to add diesel exhaust fluid. I usually put my own DEF fluid in my car, but I literally just paid $80 for an oil change, so it's insane that I had to top it off my self so quickly after. My check engine light is still on. When I called customer service they refused to write down my complaint and instead transferred me to the mechanics. I left a voicemail and they have not called me back. I don't think the people here do the checks they say they do! Instead they just wash your car to distract you! read more

I purchased a 2019 Honda Fit EX at Carmax Burbank on April 30, 2025. A few days later the Low tire pressure indicator came on. I filled the tires with air however the passenger rear tire wouldn't take any air so I had to take the car back to Carmax Burbank for service. A few days later I discovered that the rear hatchback door wouldn't open. Researching this issue I found that it was a common issue however apparently Carmax missed it so now I have to take the car back a 2nd time for something that should of been caught during Carmax's so-called 125 point inspection. Carmax claims that "CarMax inspects vehicles using a comprehensive checklist covering over 125 points. This includes a thorough check of the vehicle's engine, braking system, electrical system, and body/interior" However that is not that case otherwise they should of caught this issue during this co-called "125 point inspection. I suggest you look elsewhere when looking for a car. read more

I seriously will never sell a car any other way again. Ten minutes filling out paperwork online, a VERY fair quote, made an appointment, drove there, ten minutes later I'm walking out with a check. Like...where has CarMax even been all my life? How could it be this easy? Having done private sales and dealership trade-ins before...both are absolute nightmares. I'm updating my review because my experience got worse... The inspection report of the car we bought didn't reveal major issues uncovered by the mechanic. So, we returned it within the 10 day window. They issued me a refund check that I deposited into the bank. When the funds were to be available, our bank told us that Carmax had cancelled the check. What? We contacted CarMax, and they told us there wasn't enough time between the funds we gave them and the refund check. I asked for a check to be overnighted, and they said it would be. The next morning, the check wasn't here. I called them again and they said it would arrive 2 days later. Extremely unprofessional. We do not trust CarMax. I have mixed feelings about this experience. On the positive side, I got an excellent price for my seven-year-old car. The online estimate I got was exactly what they paid me. I was honest about the condition of the car. Several dealers told me they could not match the carmax price. On the negative side, I got my car appraised at Carmax but I was not ready to sell that night. The appraisal is valid for 7 days. The next day, I made an appointment to come back and sell (via Internet chat) with a person who assured me that with an appointment and my appraisal, I should be able to get in and out within 30 minutes. I asked what time was good for an appointment and he made one for me and confirmed it. He also said they offered free Lyft rides (the reason I didn't sell the car the night before was because I didn't have a ride home.). I arrived at my appointment time and they had no record of it. Not only that, they told me they do not do Lyft rides at the Burbank location and that it would be a 90 minute wait. I had already driven 45 minutes to get there, and could've come anytime. I came at that time because I was told with my appointment I could get in and out quickly. They said the appointments were for 12 hour windows. Seriously??? The scheduling was a horrendous aspect of this, and I wouldn't go back for that reason. Others in the waiting room told me they had the same experience. Extreme misrepresentation on internet chat. Once I actually got to a sale processing person, it was great. Vi was terrific and she processed my transaction easily. She also arranged a Lyft ride for me and told me that the Internet people frequently stated incorrectly to customers that rides were available. She is the only reason this experience does not get one star. You need more employees like Vi. There needs to be better communication between the store and the people who do their Internet chats. Also, don't bother to have appointments if you're not going to honor them. I would come at a less busy time if I knew I would be waiting for 90 minutes. read more

Went here to sell my old car, got an offer a few months ago for 2,500, I went back to sell it today and they lowballed me at 1,500. That's $ 1,000 less in just a matter of months, and this is right after I got it maintenanced and put in a brand new battery. So I left. After walking out, I started to take some pictures of my car with my friend that had met me there to drive me home . We were followed by multiple employees who were staring at us while we took photos of the car. All of the sudden the salesmen yells at us " You can't do that here!" We didn't honestly know what he was taking about. I think he was really frustrated that I didn't accept the offer and wanted us off of the property. I was there Monday and Wednesday and they were extremely short staffed both nights. I waited an hour to be seen Monday. I called for an appointment Wednesday and was told to "just come in." I waited an hour and a half to be seen. I bought a car last night. They did not wash the car or offer to wash at a later time. I was never offered as much as a drink of water. The salesperson told me they were supposed to be off at 7pm but volunteered to stay due to short staffing The entire experience was poor and frustrating. Place is definitely poorly managed. I bought another car from there in June of last summer. It was a completely different experience. The current management is horrible compared to the experience of last summer. Their 30 day return seemed easy and hassle free. I felt pressured into buying a car that I didn't want, I decided I didn't want it and that I wanted to save up for a car that I did want. So when I returned it I made sure to ask the manager to please not pressure me or make me feel bad. He was nice, and they gave me my downpayment back that same day. HOWEVER, less than a week later, I am having breakfast and get a call from the lender - upset with ME- saying that I owed them money etc. I contacted Carmax HQ immediately who told me that I shouldn't have to deal with this that. They then gave me the number to the business operations office in burbank. When I called them, the one girl I talked to, cut me off, then the manager said "we can't stop them from calling you because we don't work for (name of lender)." That I returned the car on the 12th and it was the 15th and it's not an overnight process. I then said but it's your job to communicate with said lender what's going on and if I get another call from them or any negative marks on my credit report because of this I am going head to toe legally with Carmax. Wasted time.... I returned to CarMax this morning to have my vehicle mechanically assessed. I received my "appraisal offer" earlier in the week but did not have a ride home to be able to execute a sale to CarMax at the time I received it. Following the appraiser's advice, I arrived at the opening time (9:10AM) and was told that it would be a 45 minute to a one hour wait to have my car mechanically assessed. Really?! But we did wait a full hour before returning to the window to inquire about the delay. I was told that we still had 3 parties ahead of us. Unacceptable. We left and went across the street to BIDLANE. I had previously given them 5 stars for when they bought a car from me. However, the buying experience gets a 1 star from me. I will be quick about this: they misrepresented the truth. The service Carmax uses to give you history of cars is Experian autocheck. It is a Carfax competitor. On the Carmax website it said the car was 1 owner and "No Accident Reported" (Screenshot attached) However, I ran the carfax at my own expense and the VIN showed up as 2 owners and "Damage reported: moderate damage. Damage to front." (Screenshot and CarMax report attached). I called Carmax and they confirmed it has been in an accident. Now, I had this transferred from Nevada and they said it underwent an inspection in Nevada and then again in Burbank. Two "inspections" and nobody noticed the very obvious damage to the car? I took the car to an independent mechanic inspection and he immediately notice it had been in 1-2 accidents based on the repairs, panel gaps, and non-matching paint. When I confronted Carmax they said going from 0 to 1 accidents did not affect the value. Are you kidding me? Did he think the 1 accident made it MORE valuable? Obviously a 1 owner car with 0 accidents is more valuable than anything higher. That is common sense. I gave Carmax the opportunity to make it right and they failed at every corner. My mechanic texted me this in regards to the inspection he performed: "Signs of oil and water mixing under the oil field -this is usually a sign of a major engine problem. Probably major engine problem. Engine $8500?" The moral of the story is: do not trust Experian autocheck, run your own carfax, and get your own mechanic to inspect the vehicle. read more

Really disappointed in what should have been a seamless experience. Called ahead to the Burbank location to make an appointment to complete the transfer of my car to this location. The appraisal was finished, all I was doing was dropping off necessary items key fob/title etc. Was told I need no appointment, come on in and the process would be quick and easy. I arrived at opening only to discover a signature was missing. Having driven up in torrential rain from San Diego to pick up my new car, I had extremely limited options. Drove all the way to Anaheim to meet my husband and obtain the signature (totally my fault). Drove ALL THE WAY BACK to Burbank in hellacious rain only to be put at the end of the line. I've been here for more than 2 hours waiting to get closed out. Could there not have been a little bit of compassion to move me to the front of the line? I was referred to the location in Burbank California. Long story short, I bought a 2017 Rav 4. 2nd day after buying it, the hatch started leaking water. Didn't have the car for a week, I played phone tags the whole time with customer service to find out when the repairs would be done. Got the car back then a day later had to take it back for another 2 days because the right door was getting stuck. Had the car for 2 1/2 years and the transmission went out and I still owed $12,000. What they do is buy cars, wash them put them on the lot unchecked, then give only a 90 day warranty. Get the platinum warranty if you decide to buy from here or just stay away 100% from this dealership. Thank me later....the end ** Also wanted to add this. Thank God another dealership paid the Loan and a few thousand over. What they found out that I was not told or aware of and it wasn't reported on the car fax was that this car had been in an accident. I Transferred a car from a carmax in LAX to a carmax in Burbank through their customer service phone line. I let the carmax employee on the phone know I'm doing a 24 hour test drive. He says " Sure, in order to do a 24hr test you will need to submit a finance application. Are you ready to do that? ". I let him know I'm financing with my own bank because they give me way better interest rates. He said " No worries. We will just need to verify insurance. You are good. ". He emails me a link to upload a selfie and my insurance info. I do it right away. He then tells me that the vehicle will be transferred to Burbank and he'll call me when it's there. I wait 3 days and the car is there. I go to the carmax in an Uber since I'm doing a 24 hour test drive and I don't want to leave my personal car on their lot. The sales associate named KG which is an abbreviated version of his name his manager Arman gave me ( he was covering for him ). I let him know I was test driving and he started the process for a 20 min test drive. I corrected him and told him I was doing a 24 hour test drive. I let him know I used to work for carmax and I know the procedure I've also bought 3 cars from carmax for myself. My whole immediate family purchases from carmax. And I've done a 24 hour test drive before. He then goes to talk to Arman a manager there. KG says Arman told him he can't do a 24 hour test drive for me because it's a sports car. I've test drove more expensive sports cars from private sellers and they have 0 issues. Why would a 10 billion dollar company decline a customer with previous purchases a test drive to a 50k car. They saw I was young and didn't want to let me Go with the car. I felt insulted that they did not want to let me take the car for 24 hours. I get KG wants to keep his sales percentages high but to overlook me because I'm young is ridiculous. I show him my bank account so he can see I can buy the car cash if I wanted to I'm not here to waste my time or his. He proceeds to look away and just say "no no no I know. " he didn't even ask me to run a finance application like the other guy on the phone or ask how I was going to pay for the car he just completely dismissed my test drive. That's how I knew he was thinking " this guy is just wasting my time ". I don't blame him I've had the same thoughts when I was a salesman at carmax. I still allows people to test drive cars and sometimes they'd buy and I'd be surprised. After going back and forth with KG on why he won't let me test drive he just kept shaking his head and saying no. I told him let me talk to Arman. He supposedly went to go talk to arman and came back. Arman did not talk to me. At this point I got frustrated and I felt like my time was wasted because there was no way I was going to buy this car without a proper 24 hour test drive. I wanted to take it to a personal mechanic to get it inspected since it was a sports car that is prone to mechanical issues. I wanted to see if I'd love how it drove, since it is a 4 cylinder car I felt like it would not be quick enough for my liking. After being told no to a test drive I told KG to forget about it. KG has the marvelous idea that I should buy the car and if I don't like it I can return it within 30 days. That's a brilliant idea if I want to waste a whole day with purchasing paperwork AND return paperwork AND run my credit ANDDD end up with no car !! It would be great if I could just do a 24 hour test drive and avoid all that. I'll never beg a 10 billion dollar company to allow me to Test drive a used sports car. After I realized KG cares more about his percentages and his manager was gonna back him up in not letting me test drive I told KG to forget about it and I walked away from his test. I walk up to the manager desk and arman is having a nice chat with another employee. I stand there for like 2 minutes while he finishes his conversation that wasn't work related. He looks at me and says " what's up " I asked him for his and and the sales associates name and he told me them. I said thanks and walked out the building. I ordered my uber and got home. The sales representatives are patient and seem to understand that sometimes it feels like you're taking a loss, so they are patient with the decisions you gave to make. Understandably they are the Walmart or car dealerships, and need to sell as many cars as quickly as possible, but my experience was unbelievable. If someone requests a car for a test drive why would you ask them what they are there for? Do you all not check your online system prior to checking people in? Do your sales reps need more training before meeting with customers in the lot? On top of that, we were hurried to look at the car, and make a decision. I didn't even bother test driving the car and walked out. Told the guy I would be back tomorrow just so he would stop harassing me and my wife on my way out of the lot. Gave this place a shot. Definitely will be sticking to the traditional dealership experience. read more
