Terrible experience. I had a 24h test-drive confirmed at this location by two separate people that I talked to when setting up the appointment, as well as a text confirmation (I wanted to make sure beforehand, since I live 1.5 hours from the location and not all vehicles are available for this test drive). I got to the location, was checked in, and then told that they don't do the test drive for the vehicle I had reserved as the car "doesn't qualify", even though they specifically told me before that the vehicle is available for the test drive. Hey all, just wanted to shine some light on the Irvine CarMax location. Stellar service and just a great group of people who are really trying to get you in and out with what you want. I had researched a few options for a midsized hybrid vehicle before choosing this location to scout out further. I had narrowed it down to two and made a reservation to come in and test drive them. Easily made the reservation and was about to test drive them back to back! After checking in, I waited maybe 5-10 minutes and was seen. Love their efficiency and their ability to handle the volume of customers at the hour - we came in on a weekend in the evening. The location is tucked away off of Research but easily spotted with the iconic signage facing the street. Lots and lots of parking was available for customers. Inside was spacious and had lots of amenities for those waiting. There were various vending machines as well as plenty of seating. Clean clean clean! I feel like a space this big could easily get dirty quickly, but it seems like they're very on top of this. I purchased a midsized vehicle about a month ago and have had the *opportunity* to work with sales associates and the service department. Jana was a pleasure to be able to work with in seeing my vehicle and made me and my partner feel so welcomed. 10/10 would recommend her! Shout out to Jose in the service department for being such a good communicator and keeping me in the loop about services being done to my car! 10/10 for Jose! We have bought 2 cars from this dealership in the past. My son purchased an Audi A4 in beginning of December. They were happy to take his down payment and get him into a loan with 29 percent interest rate. Didn't double check that he had a small part time job and couldn't afford it. 1 week later he was hospitalized in a psych hospital for the past month. He was not in his right mind and they took advantage of him. Returned car tonight and asked 3 sales managers for help to get his down payment back..they said that General manager refused and it was only for special circumstances. In my opinion going to a mental hospital is a special circumstance instead of ripping off a college student 4700.00. Do not buy a car here...they discriminate against mentally ill and take advantage. The first car thay sold us had an undisclosed accident. Their expnanation was that "since no frame damage had resulted from that accident, they didnt report it". Not having learned a lesson, we attempted six moths later to purchase another vehicle. This time we toook the vehicle, a 2018 Mini Countryman, to the dealer to have a pre purchase inspection done. Needless to say, there were thousands of dollars in repairs needed including many of the things they'd checked off on like brakes or a bumper that had been glued back on temporarily. Will never buy from Carmax again. 1. Reserved a car; Audi Q3. Miles were listed wrong and they wouldn't adjust the price. And it took me Six hours to buy the car. I stayed calm and had patience. 2. POOR SERVICE. Windshield had damage (deep scratches and a crack/chip) and they promised to fix it. You need to sell your car, but listing on Facebook Market place, Craigslist, and other websites is a hassle. You gotta deal with low ballers, weird types, scammers, and did I mention weird types? Carmax. Where you're only going to deal with a single Low Baller. Look, they don't offer you TOP dollar on your vehicle, because they have to turn a profit. What they do offer you is close to fair market value, based on inventory and demand. This is really a no haggle situation, so you're either ready to let go, or you're better off dealing with those weird types. Came here on a Friday with my online quote. Quick inspection (even though they got many things wrong) came back with a appraisal that was the same that was given to me online, so I wasn't ready to fight anything. Line was backed up, so I came back Saturday right when they opened. Waited about 40 minutes, got my car to a test driver, and then Daisy helped me sign my papers and cut my check. In and out in about 1.25 hours. Couldn't complain. They got an army working at this huge lot, so it seems like whatever you need done, they can streamline you in the right direction. We recently bought a Jeep Wrangler from CarMax. The Sales department was very nice and helpful but everything else has been a disaster! They told us they would be "detailing" the car before we got it home and it looked pretty clean but when we got home we found trash and food under the seats. On the drive home we pulled down the visors and the both fell off. We also noticed chips in the windshield. They assured us it would be no problem and because we had the extra warranty they would fix it all for free. Well, that has not been the case! I am tired from arguing with the service department! We were 100% happy with our Ford Fusion until my husband was hit on the freeway and the car was totaled. We came back and that's when we met Patrick. Patrick is heaven sent I swear! When it came to customer service he went over and beyond. His ability to listen closely to what our needs and wants as a family were, was awesome. We chose a car and then found there were a few issues and decided to bring it back since CarMax has that amazing 30 day policy. Patrick helped us look at several vehicles. Each time with patience and solutions to each mine and my husbands concerns. Finally, 5 days shy of our 30 days and I think 3 vehicle transfers from other cities later, we were the last people there (after his shift mind you) with Patrick finishing the paperwork on our new baby. Then the car goes sits there a week because they are supposedly getting the job approved by insurance. They don't give you a loaner. They'll give you a rental if job is approved to be covered even if it says that it is covered. Useless incompetent repair service reps. Run for the hills people. read more

I was shopping online for a car in May 2020 happened to find a really nice 2018 Nissan Rogue SL that said it had 27k miles I showed up for my appt and followed the Covid rules - wore my mask but the salesman who assisted me only had his covering his mouth, I have bad asthma but I never wear my mask that way . Ok he went to go get my beautiful car for me to test drive and pulled up with it being filthy - could barley see out of the windows - it smelled so bad inside like an old man died in it . I had to roll all the windows down to drive it but I did but what was difficult was coming from a 2004 car that was in perfect shape and like new inside to a smelly car that had all these gadgets inside - blind spot warnings - street line warnings that would sound - I am trying to do a test drive in a car I want to buy that I have never been shown any of the wonderful safety features or navigation systems before getting in . Turns out I pulled over messed around with a few things - knew it was a Certified car - knew if I bought it I had a 3 day return policy - what I did notice was the Mileage was 3500 miles higher then stated . I was like that shortens the 1st manufacturer warranty - they said sorry but again no price drop so I was firm on my trade in and got the trade in price so all in all was satisfied with my deal . The entire process took 5 hours and then as a certified car I said I wanted my scratches that the car had fixed . The car is black - had to bring it back for touch up and they touched up with like a black marker . It does not look good . DO NOT LET CARMAX touch up your car paint - they do not do a decent job trust me , you can see the black marker touch up feet away and they left one area on the hood - kind of glad they did. Also the tires Nisan puts on the Rogues are terrible - I had new All Terrain M. Brand these are Faulkin and for being a certified car - two of the tires are bad . I have pictures to show and I have only driven less then 3 k likes just getting due for my oil change . So not happy with the tires they left on . Over all , smooth transaction - but really check the car over - tires - take for inspection within 1-2 days . I do love my car and am happy but praying I get the life I got with my Toyota 16 years . read more

Checked back in with the same sales rep an hour later and acted like we'd never met. Let me start off by saying this has to be the absolute worst car buying experience i've ever experienced in my life. I had an appointment for 8pm as I did the express checkout where you submit all the documents prior to get verified before you come in. This was a waste as I had to re do everything I did online in store. No one spoke to me until at least 9:30pm and only because I got up and asked when I would be next. Fast forward everything was already verified I had an issue with the sales rep Jose, all of my income and bank statements had already been verified. I had to wait almost 2 hours for this guy to go through every single transaction on my bank statements to try to tell me my income was less than it actually is. I only used one of my personal accounts but I told him I own a business and im self employed and make PLENTY of money far more than needed for the vehicle. He argued me for almost an hour tying to tell me they cant accept my business income which is unheard of since I am the sole owner of my home remodeling business and pay myself. He claimed the finance company would make an "acception" and do the deal. Finally around 11pm I got the Jeep and the purchase was done. Fast forward 2 weeks to now the same sales rep Jose is calling me saying the bank can't accept your bank statements from your business and we need to have you come back in to resubmit all the documents again like what? You can't be serious right now. So now im dealing with a situation where I have a car for almost 2 weeks and now they are trying to have me come back in to re do the deal absolutely unacceptable....Horrible Horrible place read more

I've sold several cars at Carmax in Irvine. Generally, very smooth. Fair price and fast. No this time! Staff very confused about proper documentation for registration. At first told me to pay late fees. So I did. Manager said still can't buy. They told me register vehicle as PNO. So I did. Manager said had to wait until cleared in their system. Waited 2-3 days It to clear their system. Then today was told they can't but cars in PNO status. Ugh!!!!!!!! 2 trips to DMV Kiosk and 1 trip to DMV and about 3-4 wasted hours.
