If we could give negative stars we would. Las Vegas West Sahara location. We visited today to purchase a car we had been looking at for a week, and had called about the night before. We walked in, checked their computers to see that the car was still available, and it was... so we walked straight out to where this particular car was located and waited for the sales guy to meet us. While literally sitting in the car, another sales guy came and stood behind us claiming that he had it held for his customer, who was nowhere in sight. We informed him we were purchasing it. When we came inside to start the purchase process, this other snake sales guy had it on hold online for his customer to merely test drive, making it so that we could not move forward with the purchase. Upon making management aware of our situation, the LGM Scot Sherer (who wouldn't even personally talk to us) chose to let them test drive this car that we were prepared to pay cash for right then and there... apparently only because they had walked into the showroom before us, even though they had not made a decision, nor put the car on hold until they saw us with it. What a joke! CarMax seems to pride themselves on no games, straight forward car-buying... this is not true. They're playing dumb games. read more

After visiting with Car Max , we will never go there again . Our point person .. Barry Parris led us through the routine of what to expect . I accompanied my friend as she is a widow with a vintage Ford Mustang 2000, that has been garaged since the life of the car . All of the important things were working fine upon arrival . Odometer, fuel gage, auto windows etc. . After someone drove it " around the block" they reported the odometer wasn't working , and that would drop the price offered for the car significantly. What they offered was an embarrassment . We left only to discover that the person who had driven the car obviously did not know about cars of that make , model and year . I bought a 2020 BMW X5 in November, 2023 for $42,990 at Carmax. I had an appraisal done in March, 2024 to trade in the car for another car also being sold at Carmax. The appraisal was done at the same location, and was in the exact same condition as purchased. After only 4 months the appraised value came back at only $35,000 This means that I lost $8000 in less than 4 months! When I questioned how I depreciated this much on a car that's supposed to have depreciated the most value in the first three years, I was told that Carmax was in business to make money and why I thought that I would get the same amount of money back trading in the car?  It seems that I either overpaid this car by an insane amount, or the car got under-appraised. My husband made a reservation to see an test drive a Ford SUV on May 24th for May 25th which was a Saturday. We got a text stating the car was on its way and needed to be maintenances before driving it. They moved our appointment to Sunday and said maybe we had to wait till Monday. We called Sunday and were told we needed to wait till Monday (Memorial Day) at 6pm. We show up and there's about 9 families sitting inside waiting for appraisals. After talking to the front desk guy he informed us he had little to no info on when we would be helped, he also said since we had an appointment we would have priority. But insistently wanted to know if we were leasing or buying. I'm unsure how that made a difference. We wait till 6:30 and I approach two gentleman who were catching up on what's up with their life, and kindly explained we had an appointment at 6, and it's now 6:30 and one of the guys (Tyler) said, I just clocked in. Let me check the list and IF you're next I'll help you. He took his time to check and quite frankly just lead me to just walk out and go to another dealership where they'll treat me and my family as a customer that I am. Not just someone who is making their job more difficult. All the employees need a customer service lesson because this place just does not have it. Go elsewhere. I promise you won't be disappointed. Bought two cars from here in the last year. Neither had been up to date with maintenance schedule. Had to replace basically every fluid a car has, about 1k per car. In addition the rotors on car #1 were warped, luckily was able to get it 'fixed' within the initial warranty period, but the rotors needed to be replaced a few months later all the same. I talked to the repair people, and they insinuated that I was at fault for slamming on the breaks to hard. I think that's a ridiculous assumption and quite insulting to assume that I drive so bad that I can wreck 'new' rotors in a couple of months. For car #2 it also came without a remote lock/unlock fob. The salesperson said they'd get me a new one, but I had to hound the service department for over a month to get the fob. I did get the CarMax warranty, but the salesperson mislead me into thinking that it covered 150k miles. However it only covers up to 150k miles total on the car, so if you bought the car at 110k, you only get 40k miles of coverage. Finally, you get a $50 discount if you get the car fixed at CarMax but they never have available openings, usually over a month out to schedule anything. That said, outside of the maintenance concerns the cars havent had problems. I didn't have a ton of time to shop around for used cars so the warranty has been nice peace of mind. read more

My boyfriend and I have been to this lot 4 times since he got the car in the beginning of February. He love this BMW 5 series and felt that he was getting a great deal with his trade in. A month and a few days the check engine light comes on and a warning message saying Drivetrain issues. The car decreased in speed while driving home and shuttered like crazy. He called Carmax the next day and they had the car towed back to the dealership. 4 days later he calls to check the status of his car. He spoke to Maria C., who informed him nothing was wrong with the car and because he was driving fast on a quarter tank of gas that is the reason the light came on and he could pick up his vehicle. My bf kept telling her that doesn't make sense and she started to get a little condescending with her tone(which I can attest to). Next day He picks up his car and notices there is a new scratch/dent on the bumper. They reported it but nothing was done. He drives home and accelerates and the same issue occurs. At this point he is feeling like he is getting the run around and being lied too. This dealerships mechanics are trash and the cars that they are selling are questionable. I was going to purchase my car from them but saw how unprofessional they are and im taking my money to Lexus. read more

So, I recently ran my options with CarMax here, and got approved for a vehicle with terms I was happy with. Not the online pre-approval stuff, but full on running of my credit and finances. The vehicle I was approved for was out of state, so I paid in advance to have it transferred here. Then, as soon as I paid, when the vehicle arrived they suddenly switched the entire offer, jacked up the payment by a couple hundred and also suddenly wanted double, yes double, the amount of down payment. No explanation. No nothing, no one told me anything, and when I talked to their finance department on the phone I had been told that the offer was good until 10/18/21. Do not let them get you to pay to transfer a vehicle. They got me for a couple hundred bucks, and then changed everything on me. Had they been up front about it I would not have payed for a transfer. Can I just put zero stars? The worst place! I wish I had read the reviews here before going to them. Jerked around and made to wait for hours especially on the West Sahara location. We paid to have first vehicle delivered to us, but an hour before the scheduled delivery, after talking to the phone with them for days and doing financing online and over the phone, they've asked us to drive to their location in Henderson instead and to pick up the car ourselves since they had some problems with their delivery vehicle. We did. We got our car, but the front left tire blew 10 mins driving into the freeway! We were stranded on the freeway for an hour and a half. Tried to call them to see if they could help us. Took them almost an hour- placed us on hold for a long time before I had to tell them to get us a tow truck and get us out of the freeway PLEASE before my phone battery ran out! A kind police officer helped us and got us home. Good thing, otherwise we would have been stranded for 3 hours waiting for the tow truck to come! Had to go back to Henderson the next day to sign paper work and it didn't take long and was able to call my bank and ordered a stop payment right away. They called us back a few times for the next couple of days and told us they will make it right, so I finally agreed. We decided on another vehicle. They were supposed to deliver it to our place again but 15 minutes prior to delivery, they said they couldn't! So, here we go again, they convinced us to pick it up in their Centennial location. It didn't take that long, but I can't believe it was happening again! so we picked it up and didn't really ask if we could test drive since it was already late. We were thinking since they have the 30 day money back guarantee- we would just take it home and hope for the best. Driving to the freeway- the engine was so loud! It sounded like you were in the back of an airplane. My husband and I couldn't even hear each other while we were talking in the car. It was almost laughable! What a nightmare! Called them right away the next day and I told them, that's it! I will just return and get my deposit back. George, from upper management had one of their really apologetic sales people, Ken, call us and convinced us that they have the car that we really wanted in their West Sahara location. We should test drive it first and that they have an appointment set up for us and we did all the paperwork and financing with him the day before our appointment. We get to West Sahara 20 mins early. I made sure to confirm that we were there to return the other (crap) vehicle and to test drive the car that we wanted. 2 sales people said "you guys are first". I don't know what that meant, cuz surely everyone was being attended to besides us! We thought to ourselves, is this a prank?! We've been waiting for over hour, excited to test drive this other vehicle that they promised us, also thinking that we would finally go home with the car that we wanted! Finally I had to stop someone his name was Daniel to tell him, I just want to return the vehicle and forget about us test driving the other one. WE've been made to wait for 2 hours total at that point and it was just bullshit! I worked with a saleswoman who was great. She didn't pressure us into anything and was always available via text or phone if we had any questions. I had an appointment at 11am on October 1st to finalize documents via express pickup . My sales lady had everything together, however, whatever system they have in place for express pickup went to shit. "Express" means to "operate at a high speed." I did not experience that. After checking in at the front kiosk we were told to take a seat and someone would help us. 10 min passed so we went to the business office window to ask what was going on. They apologized and said they were getting paperwork ready. Ok. We sat some more and then the manager, a larger gentleman, told us that things were going to take a while and that he would comp us lunch because of the wait- we just had to turn in the receipt. He said we couldn't order alcohol though, ok. The whole ordeal took about 1 hour and 15 min before we drove off with the car. It entailed me having to log into my phone to sign documents bc their system was down or wouldn't load- who knows. I don't live near here so i am the type to pay for my plates to be sent to me. I asked if I could submit a photo of my lunch receipt for reimbursement and was told that would be ok. Well, I submitted my receipt and it was acknowledged that it was received. I really disliked my experience with this CarMax. Firstly, I made an appointment online for a Wednesday. On Monday, someone texted me without identifying where they were from and said they would be my consultant when I arrived "tomorrow" (Tuesday). I clarified that my appointment was Wednesday. When I arrived on Wednesday, the consultant who texted me wasn't available so they gave me another (Moya, very nice woman). We first went through my trade-in offer and financing, and then she asked if I wanted to see the car. As we did this, she stopped multiple times to make a phone call regarding various other car buyers. I really didn't like that the car I reserved was not waiting for me in an easily accessible spot when I arrived. In fact, my consultant didn't know where to find it and we were kind of aimlessly walking around the lot. At the very least, there really should be an easy way of locating a vehicle on the sales lot. The gold standard should be to have the vehicle waiting for the customer so we spend no time at all standing in hot parking lot. When we did locate the vehicle, she didn't know if it had any of the safety sensing features I was interested in. She walked back in to the office to pull the deets and left me looking at a car that was turned off without the keys in a hot parking lot. Oversight, maybe? But not a good experience. I followed her in. My goal was to trade in for a newer year of my current vehicle, and I felt kind of discouraged from doing a test drive for various reasons Moya gave me (to see the safety features I was interested in, I'd have to go on the freeway, but it was rush hour; it's the same car I already have so I generally know how it drives). How in the world could I ever decide on a vehicle of any kind without driving it first? Overall I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and I didn't have enough confidence in the process to pull the almost 40000 dollar trigger. I thought about it over the next day or so and it just didn't feel "right". Buying a car is an emotional process, and I certainly wasn't treated like someone who was going to make such a large emotional and financial investment. I appreciate the no-pressure tactics, but these should be balanced with good treatment and a positive experience. My time and investment was not important enough to this establishment for me to seal the deal. read more

Let me tell you I had my 08 Acura and we've been through all the ups and downs so I was so scared to let her go and get a new car (you know you put all the money in and get attached) but it was time. Then we walked around and shortly got the call to meet the leasing agent. And Abbey was ours. She was so sweet and just felt a good vibe from her. She really wanted to help and be there for me, and wanted to make sure I was making the right choice. She made me feel extremely comfortable and helpful when I had questions. It didn't come off like she was just making a sale but really taking the time to make sure I found the right new car. After a while we finally had found the car and took some drives around, to test. And lo and behold we found it. A Mazda CX-5. It has been such a smooth process from beginning to even know while waiting for my registration. His service was superb he went out of his way to even call the other Carmax dealership to make sure the vehicle was there and how soon they would transfer the Vehicle to West Sahara Carmax. Within the second day my Mother received message from Joe letting my Mother know that the vehicle is on the property and that we can head in over and finish everything up. As my Mother and I arrive at Carmax we meet with a guy name Joe: Joe was nice at first and greeted us. As soon as we sat down to look at the documents over my Mother and I felt being rushed as if he wanted to just close everything up asap. I actually had to let Joe know that we want to test drive the vehicle first when it was his duty to offer to let us know if we wanted to test drive the vehicle! So he let us know about the vehicle insurance and needed to see the documents that is current. Joe suggested that I register my mother online so I took my tablet and went ahead to register my mother online at AllState.com As I was in the process of the registration, Joe was again hurrying asking are you done yet?! To make it all worst when he brought the car over no one came with my Mother and I to test drive the car, also he was in such a hurry to go back inside he just told us that we had 25 minutes! That didn't set well with me and my Mother! When we came back he asked how was the drive? I let my Mom go inside the building so I can talk to Joe: I let Joe know that his customer service is very poor and that the way he is providing his customer service to my Mother and I are being rush! I let him know that we are the customers and we are looking for a Great Quality Vehicle and not a rust bucket of a vehicle, I pointed out to Joe that there is no gas cap on the vehicle, the inside light is coming apart, there were to loose screws on the dash board and it was just sitting there. Joe reply was negative stating that his not a bullshitter and doesn't bullshit his clients. I let Joe know that Im a realistic man and I don't like being talked this way! He went ahead and said that If we don't want the car it's okay and we can go! I stated to Joe that we are the customers and we are here to purchase a great Quality Car and not a Lemon! My walker fit in perfect it was a dream to drive, I met the manager Robert he was just as nice and caring as Jose Jose did all the work. It was just the best experience ever buying a vehicle. I left there energized. I wasn't tired of walking around because I didn't have to and sales floor had people in it all sitting at the tables I was offered water, I can't tell you I felt like a queen walking in and looking for a different vehicle and you don't feel like hassling with anybody Carmax is the place to go. You tell them what you want and they deliver will never go to any other dealer in there 30 day warranty you drive it for 30 days if you don't like it you bring it back who does that Carmax does I can tell you how please I am with that dealer I came home and I was not tired. I placed it on hold cause I was planning on flying out there to purchase and then drive 1,664 miles back. Then my brother talked me out of doing that and suggested to just purchase it and then have it transported by a car hauler instead. I spoke with a finance rep that mentioned that it was a great idea and that he would put me through with a sales consultant. Apparently they don't want to make a sale cause no one ever called me. I waited a day and called the store. It was really hard to get through to a live person and then I ended up with another finance person and they said I would have to talk to someone at the store (all the finance people are not boots on the ground). Anyway, so I'm transferred to the business office that says she will transfer me to a woman named "Lee" (this is after being on hold for about 10 minutes). I spoke with Lee and told her what I wanted to do and she then tells me that I cant do the finance virtually and that I would have to come to Vegas, finalize, drive the car off the lot, and then find a car hauler. I said "oh no, well I need to see if I can get a flight out to Vegas or get it shipped to to another store at the expense of $1,299--I needed to call my brother real quick to see if he would be in Vegas soon to keep the car until the car hauler showed up (he's a traveling poker dealer and is in Vegas a lot) and just asked her to keep my appointment as is. She said that she couldn't do that anymore since it is not a guaranteed that I would show up!!?? Wtf?! I said I'm going to call you back in less than 10 minutes, how did you already cancel my appointment? She said she needed to go talk to her manager. She came back and said they can hold the car for 24 hours. Okay, fine. I asked for a direct extension but she said she would text me. Which she did text but it was from a number that all Carmax people Ive dealt with since the beginning of the week. I texted her 14 minutes later cause I couldn't get someone right away and asked her to call me. She called me back and I said I'll just transfer it to Dallas (it was a lot cheaper) and pick it up there since my actual domicile is in Dallas--I'm on a work detail in another state. She then tells me okay, and looks in her system to start the transfer process. She then tells me that the car was pulled from inventory for repairs and she cannot do the transfer!!!!
