08/05/24. After receiving a lowball offer from a Miami dealership on our trade-in vehicle that had very low miles and was in excellent condition, I contacted this Carmax dealership online to find out what their offer would be. Carmax came in at a very reasonable price that was much higher than the other offer and guaranteed their offer and a check after inspection. We knew our car would pass inspection with flying colors at Carmax so we told the Miami salesman to hold the new vehicle while we drove over to Carmax and we would be back with a check to complete our deal with them. Everything came together as we thought it would. We highly recommend this location! Their staff was welcoming, friendly and organized. They inspected our vehicle within 1/2 an hour while we were comfortably seated in their air-conditioned showroom. They did all the legwork and paperwork and handed us a certified check for the balance after they paid off our bank. We Ubered back to the Miami dealership and completed our transaction with them. We had a very frustrating experience at the CarMax Miami Lakes location that was completely inconsistent with another CarMax dealership. We brought my 70-year-old father's car to Miami Lakes after receiving a quote at another CarMax location. The clerk questioned why the title showed ownership for less than 30 days. We explained the vehicle was a gift from my uncle to my father on 12/26. Although we had the Florida title and registration, we were told the clerk needed to "ask his manager." We were then informed that CarMax does not purchase vehicles owned for less than 30 days. This was surprising, as we were within the 7-day offer window and this requirement was never disclosed when the quote was issued. Why would CarMax examine our title, provide a quote, and then fail to disclose a 30-day ownership requirement upfront? When asked, the clerk said the quoting staff is not familiar with the business office rules. I then asked, "Given that the 30-day mark occurs 10 days after the seven-day offer window, would you still honor the quote if we wait the full 30 days of ownership?" The clerk and manager said no and reiterated that this was "CarMax policy" due to increased fraud. We left and contacted the original CarMax location, where two employees explained they would simply run "extra verification checks," which take only a few minutes. We drove to that location (much farther away), where the staff confirmed the car was a legitimate gift and completed the purchase without issue. They even stated the transaction could have been processed without additional paperwork. When I later spoke with the Miami Lakes general manager Jose, he stated the policy applies company-wide and that the other location made an exception by going "above and beyond." Unfortunately, no one at Miami Lakes mentioned extra verification or went "above and beyond" for us, which would have saved my father and me significant time and frustration. Familiar with this location, we took the time to check online what the estimate would be to sell our 2021 Honda Pilot. They will not take Honda leases, our car was purchased outright from Honda and we had to have the title in our name prior to CarMax being able to accept it. It was a warm welcome at the beginning, no wait to be attended to but one of the longest waits ever for the physical check at the end. We were there from our 4:30pm appointment and didn't walk out until 7pm, thankful for the seats we marinated in. The staff is friendly and did their best to keep up. It's clean inside and the bathrooms are also well kept which I appreciate. Vending machines available if you happen to need a snack during your time there. This parking lot makes me a little nervous with the trucks and cars racing in and out otherwise a good place to trade in, sell, or buy a used car. Appointment bookings available on their website. I went to get an appraisal on my 2012 Kia Forte EX. The car runs perfectly fine, has AC, interior is in amazing condition, clean title, with 120K miles. They offered me $500 for my car. There are junk yards that have offered me more. Dealerships have offered me a $4,000 trade in value. Very big waste of time. The offer they gave me online was 100% respected at the store. I got exactly what they said I would. The process was quick, with no petty price negotiations. I sold them my 2007 Mazda Miata and they did a great job with it. The Miata had 103,000 miles and some wear and tear, but Carmax was really only concerned about if it had frame damage (it didn't) and other big, big issues (which it didn't). Little nickel and dime things like the wear on the seats, or the crinkles on the window tint, did not bring down the price I was quoted online. To be clear: At the store, I got exactly the amount they said I would get when I got the online quote two days earlier. The staff was friendly and helpful, and all the other customers were nice and in good moods too. Overall, I am super impressed. We're taking my girlfriend's Mazda CX-5 there next week, since we're moving out of the state. I got there at 11 am and left at 12:30 with a check in hand. I bought a car online , they ran my credit and it was approved. I paid to ship the car from NC to Miami lakes and when the car arrived I received a notification that it was being clean and that they were getting the car ready for my pick up . When I got to the dealer not only the car was not washed the dealer was not able to find my credit application. According to the manager the online system doesn't communicate with the system they use at the store therefore they needed to run my credit again and qualify me again. I chatted with an agent from the call center and they were able to find my application but the dealer kept saying no . Bottom line both departments are not communicating and the customer is the one affected at the end of the day. Horrible experience. The only good thing about the process was the sales agent Mario he went above and beyond and treated me like family, he is a great asset to the company. I visited Carmax because there willingness to buy your vehicle even if you don't buy one from them. I recently purchased a new Lexus RC and was debating if I should keep my SUV... I knew the market for my FJ Cruiser. They have one of the highest resale values of any vehicle in the market, especially mine which had aftermarket alloy wheels with oversized tires and additional features such as a roof rack and off road lights. It's important you understand and know the specifications of your vehicle so your better prepared to accept, decline or attempt to negotiate your offer. I made an appointment online and arrived on time. Within minutes a consultant walked me through the process and I sat while my vehicle was evaluated. Within 20 minutes I received an offer for my truck. I inspected the offer sheet and pointed out additional features including aftermarket ones that were added to my SUV. I received a second offer which I accepted. Keep in mind, Carmax needs to make money. There usually somewhere within 2-4k of where your car is worth. I was around 1.5-2k so I found it acceptable, I wasn't going the private sale route because I didn't want to keep making payments and I had lots of equity on the vehicle. I was again explained the process of the buying of the vehicle. The lien holder was contacted for the payout and all the paperwork filled out to transfer the vehicle under the dealerships name. Finally, I received a check for the equity I had in the vehicle and said goodbye to my old friend (the SUV). It was a quick, detailed experience, if need be I would sell my vehicle to Carmax again and recommend you stop by if your interested in doing so. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER I had an appointment where they lock a truck for me for October 31st to trade in my car and buy this truck in Miami lake FL Location. I called both of the people was helping me to let them know that my flight was cancelled and I will not make it for 31st but I will be there next day Nov 1st . Both said its ok, I ask them if I need to do anything , they said all its ok. I went there on the 1st of November with my car to trade and buy the truck. They pulled the truck for me and when we seat to do all paper work , they told me the truck was already reserved for somebody else up to the 3rd of Nov. They said I need now to wait up to the 3rd of November to see if he buy it or not . Thats ridiculous , I called them , ask if I need to to anything to be sure and they said no. I went back home mad but more sad, because I was ready with all paperwork to doit and because incompetent people , i can't buy the truck I want. I waited up to the 3rd when miraculous the truck went available again and this time I called customer service to reserve the truck for me, and they did up to the 9th Nov, my day off so I can go and complete everything. When I was thinking all was ok , the worst came , I noticed the truck was in transfer to Alabama , WTF its going on here? I called and the confirm they transferred the truck , either I have a lock , reserve , TO BUY THE TRUCK , ... Some system mistake they say . "Its our Mistake , we apologize" they said. I work in customer service for more than 20 years and I can tell you this company has the worst , if they care , Customer service ever I see. My salesman was very knowledgeable and courteous, ended up buying a car and adding maintenance coverage. The day after I noticed that I had a maintenance warning on my dashboard; all the information of the previous owner was still in the phone memory; and the back of the car was too high, not normal like other suv's. This meant that when the car was traded it was not serviced before placing it on the lot for sale. Now If I want the car serviced, I have to go Monday to Friday to have the car serviced...people work you know! Service department is not opened on weekends - not previously mentioned... meaning that I have to leave my car on the weekend, or leave my work early, get a loaner, etc., etc. Even though I like the car, I might 1) get another or 2) get my money and go somewhere else! read more

I visited this Carmax after getting a KBB Instant Quote for my 2017 Subaru Impreza Limited Sedan with 10,700 miles for $12,400 so I thought that was a little too low and I tried an instant quote from Carvana which gave me back a quote for $16,019 for my vehicle. The next stop on my list of places to visit was Carmax to see how much they would purchase my vehicle for at the Miami Lakes location. When I got to the Carmax Miami Lakes location I was greeted as soon as I walked in through the front door and asked if I needed any help. It looked like they had removed all the floor tiles and cubicle walls because they were remodeling, the person I spoke to was Andrew who was very attentive and apologized saying that the place doesnt normally look like that but they were in the process of remodeling. It only took about 15-20 minutes from the time that I walked in through the front door to get an estimate from Carmax for my vehicle, they asked for the keys while I stayed seated inside the Carmax and then they inspected the vehicle and drove it themselves (without me being in the vehicle). The quote that Carmax gave me for my 2017 Subaru Impreza Limited Sedan with 10,700 miles was $16,000 which was better than the quote that KBB Instant offer was giving me for $12,400 but it was a little lower than the offer that Carvana gave me for $16,019. I asked Andrew if Carmax could beat the Carvana quote but he explained that sadly Carmax doesnt beat other quotes but that the Carmax quote was tax free so they dont take away more money from the $16,000 that they were offering me. I ended up selling my car to Carvana because their quote was $19 higher (tax free as well) and they gave me a free Uber ride back to my house after I sold them my vehicle. My experience with Carmax was still pretty positive even though I didnt end up selling them my vehicle I still appreciate the help that they gave me in finding out how much I could get for my vehicle and their offer wasnt that far off from the Carvana offer. The only reason I took off a star and made my rating a 4/5 was because after I walked back to my vehicle after getting my offer from Carmax I noticed that they left a scratch on the paint of my car near the gas tank (which I was able to buff off), there was some white dust on the bottom of my car door that looked like it was from the inside of Carmax since they had removed all the floor tiles, and they also left that same white dust on the carpet inside of my car and the door trim, the emergency break was also left up after the vehicle was handed back to me. Overall it was a 4/5 experience, im not too mad at them about the small things because I was able to clean off the white dust from the door and carpet and buff out the scratch that they made on the vehicle near the gas tank. read more

The buying of a car at Carmax is quite easy and pretty much problem free especially if your buying your car cash. Trust my review I am an experienced Carmax customer bought 3 cars within 4 years. True no haggle prices and courteous salespeople of course they want to make the sale. Important facts to know if you do decide buy your car at Carmax. #1-not worth buying all the added insurance and extended warranty coverage they push to sell. #2- DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR FOR REGULAR SERVICE definitely not worth it. LEVEL OF SERVICE SUBSTANDARD and I'm being kind. SAFETY for their customers on the road is NOT a top priority! Took my car in for a regular oil change 2 weeks prior to a road trip.. I specifically asked to have my tires checked (which Btw is part of their standard service agreement to check tires, brakes etc) regardless I reminded them to do so. When I was checking out again I inquired and was told that all GOOD. She pointed it out on the receipt I was given. Turns out by the grace of GOD my tires were basically bald I had to buy on a Sunday the day before leaving on road trip 4 tires! Last minute expense Could of been prevented if Carmax would of had Safety as their priority! DO NOT HAVE YOUR CAR SERVICED AT CARMAX THEY CANNIT BE TRUSTED! BTW-I did address with service manager absolutely not solved satisfactory. I Bought my car here and it was time for its first service. I bring it in for an extra service (an issue with the key chip). I call right back and tell one of the managers that I left my Tom Tom GPS in the car, he tells me not to worry, he will place it in the safe for me. I say thank you. Next I return for my car and no one has my GPS. It's not in the safe, and the manager isn't around. Later I'm told they aren't responsible for whats left in the car, I explain that I would have returned that same moment if I wasn't told by management that I don't have to worry, "trust him!" So, they hid behind their little sign stating that they aren't responsible for items left in your car. Just thieves and low life management now wishing they worked elsewhere.
