IF SELLING TO CARMAX - Be advised, you need to check if your registration tags are on your plates. Online, it said in order to sell your car to Carmax, you needed to bring current & valid registration, the car title (with the seller named on it) & a valid ID. Easy - I had all 3!! But got to Carmax 10 mins before my appt time & after a 65 minute wait, was told by the associate (who'd already collected my title, registration card, key fob & ID thirty minutes earlier) "Hey - Do you have your registration stickers?" - unbeknownst to me, my current registration stickers must've been stolen from my plates!! They wouldn't let me sell my car to them until I had the stickers replaced, even with my valid registration documents in-hand. So just FYI to others - check your plates, make sure your tags are on there!! I wish Carmax had specified this on their website or given me a heads-up about it earlier upon arriving... it would've saved a lot of time, for both of us. read more

Hubby and I have been looking to test drive a Mazda for a while now. We were excited to see that the Carmax up the street from us had many on their lot. When we arrived we walked to receptionist area the gentleman that greeted us asked us what we came in for and we let them know we specifically wanted to test drive a Mazda CX-5 and Cx-9. We asked how long the wait would be and he mentioned it would be about 15 mins which seemed reasonable as there wasn't many folks on a Thursday afternoon. We waited 45 mins. When we finally got called the gentleman asked us what we wanted to do and we repeated we wanted to test drive a Cx-5. He mentioned all the cars on the lot were on hold.... why the hell would you not have told us that to begin with as we waited 45 mins for nothing. We then asked about the cx-9 again all the cars on the lot were on hold. We honestly stormed out pissed as they truly wasted our time. I'm honestly frustrated that this was the service and honestly I prolly won't be back... I'll go to the one in Livermore or find another spot to buy a car. Looked around the lot while they got our paper work together they game out like 10 min later to get my husband to sign some stuff. He wasn't inside very long came back out done and done. Car buying is time consuming. But even with an appointment for a specific car , it takes an hour before a representative is available, and an additional 30 minutes to test drive. Even when trying to purchase the car it takes excessive amount of time. With an appointment, Other dealers will have the car waiting for you, ready to test drive, only 10 minutes. read more

Worst car buying experience I've ever had. I was told a different lie every time I visited the store. Four appointments at two hours a piece to trade in and buy a car, ridiculous. I was surprised when a house mate purchased a new car and suddenly I had no space for my second car. I went on line to CarMax, input my information and described the car. Set an appointment for an appraisal the next day, and in less than 24 hours, I had a check in my hand for my second car. The longest part of the entire experience was cleaning it out before I drove there. I could not have asked for an easier experience. I am still a bit surprised that they took my 14 year old Honda. Mechanically it was in very good condition, but there were a lot of cosmetic things, like deteriorated leather seats, that I thought would get my car rejected, or a diminished offer. I guess it helped that I had clear title, both key fobs, all the manuals and the "secret security code card" that comes with the remote key. I even had a good Uber ride back home. The only thing that would have made it better was a house mate that would have at least offered me a ride for the inconvenience of the surprise 'no available parking.' Now, the one in concord ca has horrible customer service. You'll be fooled when calling the 800 number because you are routed to the reps in AZ and they are sooooooo nice. So, when you show up to the actual location you are expecting to meet that same awesome sounding person you spoke to over the phone. But no. instead you get this monotone, slugged face, angry looking sales guy who treats you like you're some sort of a criminal. Looking to scam "him" out of a car. Nothing was inviting about or friendly about this place as I was talking the sales guy/manager just walked away. Then the other sales guys response for it was "he is always like that"... hmm wrong profession guy! So I left, I called to complain about the service and that's when I found out I was being routed to AZ. She (another rep apologized for the services and asked was Fairfield near me? So, I made an appointment in Fairfield which was MUCH better experience. The sales rep was inviting and funny and walked me around, shows the cars, explained my options and offered me something to drink. It really was night and day... I select my beautiful new car, My only thing I noticed with carmax I don't like all the little stickers they put on my car without asking me. Then when I remove them that heavy sticky stuff on my car. Allow me to freely talk about your place of business not unknowingly ride around with bright Yellow Carmax stickers on my car getting free advertisement from me. At least ask. I'm just saying. Purchased a truck from CM in Fairfield late last year and have been dealing with A/C issue that Fairfield couldn't solve. I live in Pleasant Hill the new CM just recently opened. Contacted CM for an appointment. The tech Logan contacted me the day before the appointment to discuss the issue and to have a better understanding of the problem. Today Logan inspected the vehicle and identified the issue. Parts on order and next week hopefully no more issues. These newer vehicles can still have issues, I recommend the extended warranty. This place is a scam over 10 years later; and I'm talking about Carmax as a whole; this location opened a few years ago. I brought in my car for a appraisal and they didn't even look at it. I have had all the service done to my car and cosmetically looks like new. People talk about the whole chip shortage and inventory shortage but what do you expect when you get the most lousiest trade offer. Carmax has their clients use their phones to scan a bar code and you plug in your vehicles info and history and they give you a value report. They don't even come to look at the vehicle and OF COURSE it's haggle free given the nature that it's the only way for the most corrupt dealer to get and generate wild profits. Don't trade nor buy vehicles from this dealer. They over price their vehicles regardless of before or after Covid and even CarGurus shows the inventory price as over the top. Their reps are fine but if you think your getting a deal I promise you your not. read more

I visited Carmax in hopes of finding the perfect car. We arrived at the dealership & were greeted by Daniel. He took us out on the lot to search for the perfect vehicle. My salesman was fantastic. We were interested in multiple cars but most of them were not available, but were on the lot. He also stated they were able to order the car and have it shipped, but that would take multiple business days. I want to sell my car. I went online to see what it was worth. CarMax had a page where you enter info about your car and then they make an offer. The offer was a good one so I made an appointment. When I got there they inspected my car and asked me to wait a few minutes while they confirmed everything. To be honest, I expected them to come back with a lower offer,.I was prepared to walk if it was too much lower. To my amazement and delight they confirmed the original offer!! I was approved for a car, financing, and my down payment 3 days before I went in. Not 1 time was I called about any problem after that This scumbag Manzar disregarded my entire application, changed my information and tried to hide it from me. He, then, reran the application, and even lied on my company about it. Manzar also kept running back and forth to a deceitful coward of a manager who helped him lie. I opened my payroll and my bank account online to verify that all he was saying wasn't true. Not one time did he look at my paperwork or take it to his manager. At one point, I turned and caught his childish, immature manager cutting and rolling her eyes at me. But she wasn't brave enough to do it to my face. Manzar did everything in his power to cheat me. I wanted to take a moment to talk about my wonderful experience at car max. My initial conversation was over the phone with someone by the name of Ellen Davis, in Atlanta. Spending large amounts of money gives me anxiety. However, there was no pressure and I began to get excited thinking about how seamless this process would be. I scheduled an appointment and was ecstatic. Then I arrived at the car max in pleasant hill. I was impressed that they were constantly sanitizing, wearing masks and following protocols to keep clients safe. I set up my appointment for Sunday 11/15/2020. I was helped by Dani. She was very friendly and helped me through out the whole process. She answered questions and wasn't hesitant to go the extra mile to get answers. Our experience with This dealership was weird and terrible at best. I first went in with an appointment and still had to wait 20-25 minuets, what I couldn't understand there was really no one in there. The sales person I had an appointment with came over and introduced himself to me, the same person that I noticed was sitting at his desk doing paperwork. He asked me what I was looking for and I told him I had already did my research and wanted test drive. Filling out the paperwork for the test drive took longer than the test. Fast forward I brought my wife in that Saturday to test drive the car and another car and we waited at least 45 min with an appointment this time the sales person didn't even speak to me and he knew I was coming back to get her approval. The young lady who set us up for test drive asked for our licenses and cell phone number, then she called the number to verify the number I gave her was ok. The first sales person didn't make me go through that. We felt like they really didn't want our business!!!! We went to VW in Walnut Creek and bought a car the next day.. side note: I told sales person we were already pre approved for a loan and really wanted that Ford!! read more

If any of you guys are looking into getting a car make sure you run your own carfax I got sold a car with a clean title 0 accidents ended up being in minor fender bender that should have required just a front bumper took it to a body shop upon removal of bumper they noticed the car has after market fenders missing bolt going to the front support car was unsafe to drive insurance ran the information on the car and noted there has been a previous accident went to CarMax to speak to a manager and she was just rude and wasn't no help emailed the mangers and Gm long story short they agreed to fix my car after the body shop and car looks worse then how I got it from the body shop all they did was fix an ac issue and Aline the fenders to hood and since then now I have a blemish on the bumper rocker panels where support to be repainted and looks like white out has been added I would never buy a car from them again read more

We got an estimate on our X3 hybrid in late August. Just Two weeks after the expiration of that offer (which is admittedly only good for 7 days); the offer dropped from $44,200 to $40,500 (more than a 9% drop in 3 weeks). I expressed my disappointment in the rapid change; asked if there was a manager to speak to (reply- yes but there didn't have authority to make any changes). I was then told that I shouldn't compare the online estimates with a live appraisal. I replied that my first appraisal was 'in person' at the same Carmax with another rep. Further he tried to 'demonstrate' another online appraisal but referred to the 'Carmax' site to do it (not at all independent from Carmax; this vehicle model was also ineligible For an online appraisal in the first place). Poor communication, poor rationale and no effort to provide quality service at the local level. If you get a first offer from them; and you feel it's attractive, don't wait beyond the 7 days. They have NO reservations about "sticking it to you" with a lower appraisal the next time. read more

I needed to sell my car to get a new one. Easy to make an appointment to be seen the following day. I answered the online questions to get the value of my car honestly. Went in, they inspected it and they gave me the same value for my vehicle as I had gotten online. Our appointment was at 12:30pm and we did not finish till about 2:20pm. So be prepared to be there for quite some time. The guy helping us explained all the paperwork and everything he was doing step by step. Process could be a little smoother but overall good. My only complaint (and it's kinda my fault for forgetting to check as well) is that I took my car in emptied out. I forgot to take my sunglasses out of the sunglass holder and didn't remember till later. When I called I got a bit of a run around and finally got to the right department where they told me they would check and call me back. I know for a fact they were in there but was told they weren't. I made it to CarMax pleasant hill and when I walked through the door i was welcomed by the staff who was very friendly, very helpful, and I didn't have to worry about no car salesman tried to sell me a car I didn't want. I chose my own car I test drive it they gave me the history of the car it was the best experience I have ever had buying a car. They made it so easy. They go over everything with you from your down payment options to extended warranties to gap insurance and they didn't force me to add on any additional options unlike some of these other dealerships out here trying to make a bonus lol. I would honestly recommend CarMax. I will be back to purchase another car soon for my mom. Oh and amigos thing when you apply for the loan they also gives you options to live from which bank that sends a premium approval now what's awesome. read more

I bought a car there yesterday, and although my new car seems to be just what I wanted, the buying experience was the opposite of customer oriented. I went in two days ago and test drove it, went through a bunch of paperwork with a nice salesman, made an appointment to finalize the purchase yesterday, and still waited for the "next available", who was not the man I dealt with the day before and hence was clueless. The car had not been detailed as was promised by the first salesman, and the process took 90 minutes, which was ridiculous, considering all the time the salesman and I had spent the day before, and the fact that I was paying cash. I'd called ahead to see if they would pick me up at BART transit, two miles away, and that was "against policy" and they would not do it, despite the fact that I was coming in to buy a $17,000 car from them. Appalled doesn't begin to describe my reaction to that, but it is indicative of the absolutely rigid process they go through to sell or buy a car. A nice feature of their operations is quick and easy transfers of cars from anywhere in the country, and mine was shipped for a very reasonable $149 from S. CA. I knew I would be out of town when it arrived, had arranged with a CarMax "Customer Experience Consultant" before it was even shipped to be sure it would be held for me past the 7 days normally allowed to come look at it, but when I got there, it was obviously available to any comer. Lucky for us all no one bought it. I hope the car turns out all right and all the poor customer service is behind me, but I'd advise them to get a bit more personal and ditch the rigid formulas. If I'd been treated differently I'd be a very happy camper at this moment and writing a glowing review, because there are things that were great: no haggle, easy transport, just the right car, the 7 day return policy, and a clear limited warranty. But they wreck it by not treating people like humans. read more

Sold me a car that was leaking streams of water by the window and convertible roof. They were aware of the problem, I don't know if they didn't fix it at all or didn't fix it well but made me wait 2 weeks after the car arrived and then the window was still not going up all the way. Spent a month and a week at dealership as it was under warranty but they didn't fix it right and when I made a warranty appointment with carmax they made wait a long time only to send me to another dealership by myself. I wanted them to take care of it as they sold me a FAULTY car and also because as their manager said if they can't fix it they will take it back even if timing expired, which happened only because I had to deal with a long unsuccesfull repair at the dealership and because of that I missed the original return date which I'd definitely took advantage off if I knew what I'm gonna have to deal with: constant repairs on 2019 low mileage car that was signifactly lower price which makes me think carmax knew about the imperfections all the time. read more

Went in to try to view cars and possibly purchase with a co signer, we literally walked in and walked out because of ANDREW at the front. We walked up and greeted us nicely after explaining to him we just wanted to look at the cars to get an idea of what we wanted and we where going have the other person come and be the primary signer on the car he immediately started saying we cant do that, they need to be the main driver. I tried explaining to him my mom is financing a car that I was driving and he refused to listen he acted as if I was a scammer. I dont know if it was because of my race or age or what but it was EXTREMELY unprofessional and rude. After this interaction I will not be returning I've boughton over 6 cars from dealerships within the last few years and this was just unacceptable service. I'm sorry but if your front desk person is that rude because you are a Latin family I could only imagine the sales people. Management should have interviewed better I've worked in customer service for over 10 years and have NEVER been treated this horribly. read more
