I went to CarMax this afternoon and had an appointment to test drive a car at 1:30 pm. Customer service didn't get to me until 2:30. When they finally went to get my car for my test drive. I was informed the car was not available as it needed a new transmission. It would seem cars should be ready to sell if a customer has an appointment for a test drive. I really wanted to enjoy an easy process selling my car to CarMax. I got an offer online, then I set up an appointment, and before that appointment, I uploaded all my documents to make it an "express drop off." When confirming the appt, CarMax sent a calendar invite for a 30 min slot. I figured it'd take 30 min. Well it would have, if they actually took me on time. I waited an hour and a half to be called! Absolutely absurd. What's the point of making an appointment if you can't even get close to that time?! We sold our used vehicle to CarMax at 77 Chilpancingo Parkway, Pleasant Hill, Ca 94523. The sale process was fast and efficient. The sales representative advised us that transfer process would be all handled by CarMax including title transfer and prompt reporting to the DMV on the sale. We cancelled the auto insurance. Today, 6 weeks later, we received a 2-page FastTrack bill charged to our credit card starting from the date of sale to CarMax. When we brought this to CarMax attention, the company was rude and dismissive of their accountability. They would not even tell us if the car was sold, title transferred or DMV report had been made. On the DMV website, it is still listed under our name and registration. I have never had similar experiences with any other dealers or companies I have dealt with over the past 60 years of my driving. Terrible experience here. I don't write reviews but this was bad. Had a 2:30 appointment to get my car appraised to sell. Showed up early and checked in, people at the front desk were very nice. I continued to sit for almost an hour before I finally was irritated enough to go back to the front desk and ask when I was going to be seen. Sit back down and start waiting only to look at the appointment board and no longer see my name there. Needless to say I was pissed. I went with my young daughter and they were having technical difficulties so our sales representative told us to go get lunch and it was on Carmax until their problems fixed. It was a nice deed that we appreciated or we would've just been sitting there for hours. I had good service All the workers were keeping us occupied. If you don't like your car within 30 days, you could return it which is amazing when buying a car. I've had mine for a few months never had to return it but I appreciated having that option. Love my car and the buying process was seamless. They really know how to get you in the door and happy. After my initial purchase began the issues of miscommunication with the service team. My car was sold without a spare key which I figured was a small thing. After the process to schedule a time with the technician, being overlooked for a scheduled appointment, lied to about the completion of the car and left to walk home without the offer of a ride kind of rained on my new car parade. After waiting and being redirected to I'm guessing a supervisor/manager they got my car key ready. So the plus is that at least "managers" can fix the problems created by staff. I was told Once I committed to purchase a car would be detailed three people told me that, and i was expecting the detail to be comparable to my professional detail of my car they are receiving from me. Upon my arrival i view the car prior to purchase and was very surprised that the leather was still dirty. There were still crumbs in the cracks of the seats as well as hair, rims were greasy and scratches were buffed as the said they would be. The car had just been vacuumed and wiped down, I was told outside while going over the car with The salesman. He told me that they don't do the professional detail, only a vacuum and washed off. I recently sold my car to CarMax, and I could not be happier with my experience with Nathalie! I had a Hyundai Sonata that I was looking to sell. I went online and did the quick quote to see what I might be offered. It said that I needed to bring the car in for an appraisal to get the actual value of the car. I set up an online appointment for later in the week, pretty easy to do. The day of my appointment, I'm greeted right when I walked in by Angel. She was very friendly and asked if I had an appointment, and then had me fill out a very simple form about my vehicle, and then I'm quickly assigned to a representative named Nathalie. Nathalie was extremely polite, professional, and knew exactly what she was doing. She explained the paperwork to me, took pictures of my vehicle, and had an appraisal offer back to me rather quickly. I was really happy with the offer and decided to sell the car right then. She filled out the DMV paperwork, so all I needed to do was just sign. They also handled transferring the paperwork to DMV for me, so that is one less thing that I need to do to release the vehicle from my name. I honestly could not be happier with my experience with CarMax from start to finish. It was very easy to sell my car, and Nathalie's professionalism and knowledge made the entire car selling experience pleasant. I was very pleased with my experience at CarMax, Pleasant Hill this morning. Back in July, I flew to Vegas and purchased a Lexus RX 350. Upon receiving new plates from the DMV, it became apparent that the Henderson,NV CarMax did not include the mounting kit for the front license plate (which is not a requirement in Nevada). Gilberto Gonzalez, a senior customer specialist at CarMax Pleasant Hill, solved this issue expediently. Within minutes, I had a mounting kit installed with my new license plate on it. Gilberto was also helpful with an even bigger issue I had been having since July- I had been unsuccessful in pairing my iPhone with the Lexus RX's audio system, that is... until Gilberto solved this problem as well! He addressed all my concerns and delivered everything as he promised, in fact he delivered my car ONE WEEK early! True definition of under promise and over deliver. If you want to ruin your day, come here! The other day I had an appointment with the intent to sell, and ended up having to get the car towed, as it broke down on the way there. The employee up front who I talked to said it would be okay to leave the car in the lot for a couple days whilst looking for another place to take it to. The next day an employee called at 11pm (2 hours after they close) saying they were going to tow my car and asking when I can come get it. I started online with the CarMax app and checked the value of my 2014 Honda Accord. I got a quote of what the car would be worth and I made an appointment to get it appraised on a Tuesday. I called the 1-800 number and they said I can just walk in so I did on the Monday before and they had a big wait list and David said they would call me when they were ready. I left and It took about 45 minutes and upon returning they appraised my car in about 15 minutes and then I waited another 10 minutes for the final appraisal to come through and it was great to see that the appraisal was the same as I got online. They gave me time to clean out my car and then they finalize the paperwork and printed me a check and I was done within one hour. This location is busy but clean and organized and everyone was friendly and quick to ask if I needed any help. I will return here for future business for sure read more

Literally the least comfortable car buying experience I've ever had, and I've owned many cars across multiple states. from the moment I walked on to the lot, I was being shadowed by a sales rep who refused to let me out of her sight, even though my son and I wanted to take a few minutes to explore the cars that were on the lot. After a while I suggested there were some cars I wanted to test drive, so she sat me down to walk through what she described as a 12-point process that would take at least 25 minutes. We couldn't just go on a test drive, she had to go through the whole sales "process." After having trouble riding my name, I offered to type it in for her, at which point she decided to bring somebody else over who lectured me on the fact that she needs to be the one to type my name even though she seemed to have trouble doing so. This person represented himself as a manager, but he was sitting in the front-end receptionist's chair so that was just... weird. When I said that I wanted to speak with the store manager about this mysterious process, he stated that they needed to walk through the process. I asked what the process consists of, and he said he would not tell me. actually refused to tell me, told me he knew what was involved in it, but would not discuss the matter. (???) He would not debate the matter, and if I did not want to go through a process without being told what it is and why it takes a half hour before I can even go into the car, he said maybe they're not the right store for me. He gave me a generic salesperson's card and said that if I wanted to talk with management, I should try calling back but he wouldn't give me any contact information for the store's managers. this was just the absolutely most uncomfortable hard cell I think I've ever encountered on a car lot. Last Friday, I accepted their cash offer to buy my car, and transferred to them an additional $2200 to pay off the remainder of my loan to Capital One. Today I got urgent email notices from Capital One noting my account was PAST DUE! And when I called them informing them I'd sold the car to Car Max they said it was the first they'd heard of it and they'd "note" my account that I STILL OWE THE ENTIRE BALANCE FOR EVEN THOUGH CAR MAX HAS POSSESSION OF THE CAR!!! Apparently they never transferred the funds!!!! When I first called Car Max this afternoon, a representative said he'd escalate my concern with a manager and get back to me. He never bothered to call back, and neither did anyone else. I finally got some information out the the Pleasant Hill Car Max upon a second call an hour later, and got another representative who told me that their business model was not yo transfer the funds to the loan company for TEN DAYS!!! This despite the fact they have possession of the car and required me to pay the remaining MF $2200 on the loan immediately in order to complete the transaction! This representative defended their policy and business model and said I should have known this because it was in the contract, and no doubt in the fine print, because it was never brought up during the transaction itself. This is not right. Since they have not paid for the vehicle and since they do not hold title, they should not have the car. There is no reason why the funds could not have been transferred same day, and they should be required to do so. Finally, this representative offered to transfer me to the business office, after which ensued a long wait, followed by a call that ended prematurely, and of course with no follow up. read more

SUMMARY: Holy smokes this was way better than expected and definitely better than my first horrible experience at Carmax down in Duarte, CA! BACKGROUND Wife and I decided that we would sell her grey 2017 Ford Focus electric car before leaving for our big move to the great state of Texas. Her 110 e-mile range ain't gonna cut it in the land of plenty (esp the road miles) and so we used their quote feature and then made an appointment. EXPERIENCE A young gentleman by the name of Gilberto took care of us. Because I needed to get some gas, I arrived a little later than my wife. When I arrived I realized that they were already going through their process. Gilberto asked that I open all doors, hood and trunk. I could tell he was looking for dents and dings, but found none like we said. So after taking photos he invited us in and we sat there while he patiently explained that we will get full value of the quote, that we'd receive the check the same day minus what we owed on it, and that the DMV Release of Liability would be taken care of by them. Literally we were out in about 30-40 minutes. It was so smooth I was now understanding why this chain has survived as long as it has and weathered some pretty tough economic times since it was founded back...whenever it was founded. Management: please take this review into account when you evaluate Gilberto's performance for promotion or raise. He did an OUTSTANDING job. read more

The employees here are disingenuous and don't know anything other than their particular roles, as I was told. The woman who greeted me told me another employee would take photos of my car and I'd receive an offer within 20 minutes. I then observed my car roaming around the lot. An unexpected test drive and one hour later, the photographer came out and told me he would give the photos to the foreman who would then provide an offer in 20 minutes. I was then told that the offer would be sent to my email. I still have not received my offer. Maybe another location will have better customer service. This was a waste of my time. read more

We have 2 cars just taking up space in our garage and driveway. I heard about CarMax from my nephew that worked at the other location. Decided to get an online estimate/quote for our pickup and the online quote experience was awesome. My hubby and I drove separately to CarMax. Once you enter the building, we were automatically greeted at the front counter and was placed on the list to be assisted. We were told it would take about 25-30min. It was about 40min in and finally called on my cell. We were greeted and assisted by Mark. He asked a few questions to pull up my estimate offer. He then asked if we would like to move forward on processing to confirm this estimate offer and we agreed. He then asked to have my husband bring the pickup upfront to one of the handicapped spaces and took about 30 photos of the vehicle. My husband was asked to start the vehicle and also pop the hood. Once Mark finished taking all the photos, we went back inside and he submitted all photos. Mark said it may take up to 30min to get an offer in from a buyer and have the pics submitted to their regional manager. So about 20min in, we were informed by Mark that we received a confirmed offer that matched our initial offer. We agreed to move forward and I provided my DL, vehicle title, vehicle registration and all sets of keys. Signed away the DMV release papers and signed documents to sell our vehicle to CarMax. Mark made copy of documents for me and provided us with a check. It was probably the easiest process ever. It was such a great experience and I would recommend coming to CarMax Pleasant Hill. Mark was awesome. Employees were friendly. Transaction was processed in a timely manner. So quick and efficient. Thanks again Mark for all your help and Thank you CarMax for making it easy for us.
