They lied about the options that came with the car. When I got it home it did not have massaging seats, a heated steering wheel, or active park assist. I had already put new wheels and tires on it so I asked for a price adjustment and they said "those options dont change the value of a vehicle". Odd, since two of these were ones they chose to advertise on the landing page for the vehicle. They told me to take it or return it. They were not even nice about it. After I posted my review I was contacted by 'Kevin' from CarMax and he negotiated $1,000 for me on the condition I sign some papers. He said they would be in touch. I got one call saying they were waiting on the check and paperwork and that was a month ago. It was a mistake to come to this CarMax and I would absolutely warn you against it. Can't say I'll ever be back after my disappointing experience here. I found a car I had serious enough interest in to pay shipping to get it to Reno from Socal. I did what I thought was diligent research on their website as well as other car enthusiast sites so I knew what I was looking at. The car took longer than expected to arrive but finally I received a call to come down for a test drive. I had setup an online account with all of my information, so it was a bit on the frustrating side to have to do it all over again when I arrived, some excuse of one system not talking to another. A quick look over the car and I discovered the hood not lining up correctly with the fender or bumper which I pointed out, along with some other issues not evident in the ad or photos. The salesman completely disregarded my concerns and sent me on my test drive. Upon return I again pointed out my concerns and asked if there was any way to get them to work on the price or fix the problems that were not shown/advertised and without even checking with anyone the salesman said no and gave me the "take it or leave it" attitude. The carfax was clean and showed no accidents, yet there was clearly an issue with the hood/bumper/fender alignment. The inside of the car was still dirty and definitely not 'deep cleaned' as advertised. Additionally, in California it is apparently illegal to have your front side windows tinted. This car at one point had tint on the windows which someone attempted to remove with a sharp object I could only picture as a steak knife because it was done terribly with chunks of tint left on both windows. They wanted $33,000 for this car but had it detailed like a $2000 civic, such a disappointment. Without any effort to correct or discount the price I felt the choice of losing my shipping money outweighed the headache of having to deal with the noted issues and misrepresentation by Carmax. I've brought my car in multiple times for repairs, and nothing ever gets fixed. Every visit wastes my time, my gas, and my patience. I don't know if my experience is an anomaly or what, but I've never had an easier experience buying a car than at CarMax. I was pre-approved, so I was looking at cars online. I saw one that I liked - I confirmed it was still available with a phone call, and made an appointment the following day. I walked in - my salesman was waiting at the desk for me. He took me to the car, I looked inside and out and said "yep I'd love to drive it". He took me inside, got a copy of my DL and had me sign a paper, and gave me the key and said "go for it!". They don't go with you even! You drive it where you want, how you want and that's that. I came back, said yes, I'm interested. However, I had to go back to work and said "How much can we do over the phone & online"? He said 99%. He got my info over the phone, ran my credit, gave me options (term length) and I chose one and he did all of the finance paperwork without me. No waiting 2 hours in a car dealership! He sent the paperwork to be signed, and said when do you want to pick up your car? I said tomorrow at 11 - I came in the next day to the business office, met Alejandra (sp?) and she had me sign the final things and walked me to my new car - handed me the keys, put a big yellow bow on the hood and had me pose for a picture :) This was literally the easiest car buying experience of my life. I purchased my Jeep Cherokee sport in 2022. I got the extended warranty, which was the best deal ever it gave me 48 months or up to 100,000 miles. I called today because I had a warranty question, I was connected to a very lovely young woman, Denise Baldwin in the customer business center. She was so friendly and knowledgeable, asked me to hold came back to me with my agreement number, the terms of my agreement how much my deductible was and gave me the telephone number of the warranty people that will actually be able to tell me if some things are covered that I'm interested in. Buying my car with Carmax was amazing because they said I could take the car home for a week. Drive it if I didn't like it for any reason, they would take the car back and give me my full money, you can't beat that. Also, every car you buy has a 90 day warranty up to 4000 miles that comes with the car. I bought a beautiful car at a great price and the people were wonderful. This place absolutely sucks and that's putting it nicely, no sign of a single brain cell in the entire building. Started off with Nash telling us I could come pick up our vehicle alone, drove over an hour there to find out my husband had to be there too and Nash didn't know what he was talking about whatsoever. Eventually picked up our vehicle, told we couldn't register it online and that we'd have to do it in person with no explanation. Went to the DMV to which they stated our registration was subject to $800 in late fees. Why? Because Kaitlyn documented that our vehicle was purchased in 2025 instead of 2026, clearly they don't sell very many vehicles if the salespeople don't even know what year it is a quarter into it being over. Talked to the manager, Danielle, who was a massive jerk and basically said "Too bad, you'll have to drive the 3 hour round trip to come get the corrected one or wait until the new one gets delivered sometime." No apology from anyone, no empathy, just complete incompetence and rudeness. We'll go elsewhere next time for sure. read more

follow up review from 12/2 24 I do not think that the following list of cons is not necessarily the fault of Reno Carmax but the company as a whole The jeep came with aftermarket rims nice but had the wrong tapered lug nuts caused wandering on the road Had 2 bad ball joints in the steering arms part of the wandering problem almost caused a wreck tire caught a rut almost drove me into a road divider The front control arms had worn out bushings part of the wandering When I asked service about these issues I was told vehicles with solid front axles just do this naturally So much for the 125 point inspection Fixes I chose to replace the rims with factory parts with the correct lug nuts that was my choice would have done that anyway Had to replace the steering arms with bad ball joints parts cost approx 400 dollars the ball joint by itself was not replaceable Then replacing the worn control arms upon removal the rubber bushing were worn out from what I learned common on jeeps around 75,000 miles I chose to upgrade as to not have this issue again that was on me for the upgrade cost 2500 plus I don't think that this jeep was sold to me in a safe to drive condition but I also think that I should have done more research on jeep issues and been a more informed buyer instead of trusting Carmax and their 125 point inspection after correcting these issues the jeep is rock solid on the road For the pluses Carmax 90 day warranty did repay me for several issues that came up with the jeep that got fixed and part of an maintenance bill Bottom line be an informed buyer save your money read more

ZERO STARS. STAY AWAY!!! I bought a 2020 Ford F250 from here! 50k miles and have had nothing but one issue after another. First the alignment was so bad that tires were brand new when I drove off lot, 50 days later the front tire was worn bald along the outside. So all new tires and alignment required. Live in the country so I put 20,00 miles on it in just under a year. Truck started hesitating when attempting to start. Took it to the shop and fuel pump was shot, needed to be replaced , then two weeks later the wrench light came on after the transmission was shifting hard into 10 gear truck went into limp mode. took it to shop again yep now transmission need to be replaced. I have bought my last 4 cars from CarMax and I will never buy anything off their lot again. These ppl knew the truck was jacked up and they sold it anyways because they don't care about anything but making a buck. Screw you CarMax!!! Never again! read more

Went in to talk to a sales person. He was just sitting at desk looking up the newest tic tok trend. I said I have some questions can you assist. UM yeah. Ok I see this car I have a trade in can we get some rough ideas or trade in and stuff like that. His face looked like i asked him to do calculus in his head. He said well I don't know. What do you want to know. I said Trade value stuff like that. He said. I guess, what do you have, do you have time I guess we can do an evaluation. Needless to say I just left. This guy couldn't even stand, shake my hand or hell even just ask my name or introduce him self. What a horrible way to sell much less cars. As a person who is a sales manager if my sales team responded to guests like that not would I only let him go. I wouldn't even let him Finnish his day. On the Plus side. Huge selection of cars. But that is where the good ends. Only reason they are getting a 2 is due to the amount of cars. I bought a car at this location a year ago and had a great experience. Therefore, when I decided to purchase another car, I went to them. I reserved one car and waited for it to be shipped to Reno. When it got here several days later, they contacted me to say there was a problem with the title and they couldn't sell me the car. So, I ordered another one. It was in Stockton and there was a $99 shipping charge, which I paid. Two days later, they sent me a text to let me know that it was in Rocklin, which is about two hours away. Today, I got a text saying it is in Fresno and asking me to schedule an appointment to come in to test drive it. FRESNO!!!???!!! I called Carmax and spent nearly an hour on the phone trying to figure out why it had been 2 hours away, and is now 5 hours away. I finally spoke to a manager, and he said that when I went online to reserve the car, I had requested it be sent to Fresno. That is total BS; I'd sooner send my unruly dog to live with Kristi Noem than send anything to Fresno. They offered to waive the transfer fee to send it to Reno, but it will take another week, and I am without a car. This whole experience has been ridiculous. Luckily, there are options when looking for a car. My recommendation is to find a different one. read more

Let me tell you what CarMax did to me. They had my car towed in December 18th by Zane Investigation on Greg street They also broke into my car and fucked it up. (Because they actually stole the car) They didn't use a flat bed so they fucked up all kinds of things in my just got the car fixed almost perfectly, yesterday. I've had to go to numerous mechanics and pay hundreds of dollars. I also had to pay hundreds of dollars in Uber rides and Lyft rides.. cause of course, if you don't tip we'll. They don't pick you up and they fuck with you. I lost days at work. It took so long to get it fixed and so much money I told/asked car max to cover the car payments for the broken car that they caused. Not only did they deny the claim. I lost my car yesterday. They were watching me, waiting for me to get home so they could take the car . In one day they took my car. I paid $18,000 for the car and it's gone now. I can't get help from a lawyer because I can't find one. I was set up. The police don't give a shit besides they are stupid as fuck.. they actually believe the car was repo and not stolen. Ever time I ask them for help, they say it's a civil matter.. they are unbelievably cruel. I'm totally drowning, and I've learned one thing. People are monsters. They do not care about anyone. Tons of people who could have helped but stood there and said they didn't see anything. I now have zero faith in anything. I have seen so many criminal acts, I've seen so many bad things. I can't even believe it. I'm blown away that people are as cruel as they are. I'm trapped. I can't go to a doctor or dentist or anything. I can't go anywhere. CarMax won't tell me where the car is because they know it's broken again.. they just want me to pay the $2000 so I can get the car back, broken, so I can drown some more and they can do it again to me. Apparently, an entire car can be shipped across the country in less than a week, but a piece of paper takes more than a month... because my car has been sitting on their lot for weeks. They can't sell it to me because they don't have the title. It only took 10 hours of being on "hold" to find that out. At first, they just lied and said it was a smog issue. Then, they just put me on "hold" until I hung up. Finally, I got an answer... they don't have the title for the car they took my money for. The car they charged me $2,000 to ship across the country. The car they listed on their website for sale. And they don't have the title... They have my money and my car, both just sitting there until who knows when. read more

No sales person pressuring you or having to run and get keys or prices on a vehicle in the lot. Everything is available at CarMax thru a scan code, from price to gas mileage to car fax report. Then, when you are ready to take a test drive, your sales associate that created you when you arrived is there to help. I can't recommend Rondel enough. He was patient, and clear on the process and what to expect. He was fast to help us out when we had narrowed down the search and quick to communicate via text with any questions we had. In the end, we did not buy a car at CarMax, found "the one" somewhere else. And best response ever, when I text Rondel to release the car we had on hold, he text back he was glad we found the one and it was his pleasure helping us out. Got a 2017 Hyundai Sante Fe from here. Car I wanted for awhile. Was told no accidents, no damage, and they had done inspections. First issue was, the car was being shipped from a different CarMax and they kept telling me random different days it would arrive. When I did get the car, 2 days later I noticed the front tires rotting, and the rotors were bent. So the car shook, the oil change also wasn't done and was overdue by 4,000 miles. Weeks later I noticed my fender was not color matched to the rest of the car, the car was white but my fender was tan. Found out, there was an accident on the car with damage underneath that Carmax didn't tell me about. They also didn't inform me about the car previously being a rental. CarMax argued with me about replacing the front tires, rotors, and the oil change and other damages when they had lied to me about nothing being wrong with the car as well as they had done a thorough "inspection" and I had asked for them to repair these issues within the week of owning the car. They wanted to charge me a lot of money but luckily one very nice worker there handled everything over the phone with me and I greatly appreciate it. Do your research before purchasing a car from here, my Hyundai with 71k miles was 15,000 with LOTS of issues and that I was lied to about. read more

I did not buy a car here. I think I would though. Why? They keep around 300 cars in stock and most of the ones I have looked at seem to be clean and reconditioned well. I am not a huge fan of no-hassle pricing, but I see why a lot of the industry is going to it. It does even the playing field for people that hate to haggle (I am not one of them), It also keeps shysters from over pricing a car and hoping a sucker that doesn't know any better comes along and buys it based on excitement alone. Right around 90% of the used car places on Kietzke Lane are just such opportunists. Based on the pricing on the lot I would say they are competitive with some other places but by no means do they have the best prices. There are many competitors doing what they do or traditional dealerships with internet departments that are aggressively priced. I am a huge fan of the casual dress and attitude here. I know why dealerships prefer dressy sales staff but it is a complete waste of time for me. I rather have someone I can relate to. read more

She made an appointment to have her car looked at the following morning. Once they came back in my wife had a seat and approximately 15 minutes later they briefly went through their offer and told my wife it was valid for 7 days. The offer was very fair and it was good to have in hand as my wife drove to Carson City to look at the 2021 AWD Toyota Camry. In the end the Toyota dealership was able to offer her more on her trade in but the process at Carmax was worth the stop. read more

DO NOT take your car here for repair or maintenance. I brought my car here for a repair that was covered under their 90-day warranty. My car has been at this dealership for over 40 days. After mis-diagnosing the issue - it is a coolant leak but the first "technician" that is no longer working there diagnosed a transmission leak. There was no transmission leak but a coolant leak. They have rescheduled the repair several times and the response from Ken the service manager is "when we get to it, we get to it!" At this point I do not trust anyone in the service department - they are incompetent and have no respect for the customer. read more

Had the car I wanted shipped here from Henderson NV which only took 2 days. When it arrived in Reno no one notified me it was there. In fact if it wasn't for me calling asking for an update no one would have ever said a word. The sale portion was so so and they had some fix it things that they said could be done in the following weeks. Minor issues but still important. The nightmare of this place is the service dept. Or lack Thereof. I've never seen so many incompetent little children running a service dept. Place is full of teens that have no idea of how to run things. Trying to get your car in for the service is also impossible since they're booked weeks out. The tech had to hurry cause he has a lunch at 12 so only had so long to work on the car... 2 hrs max. What kind of ridiculous system is this!? I still as of today haven't had the issues repaired they promised to do. I have now regretted ever purchasing a car from here now and I never will again. I thought my car appraisal process and the offer was hasslefree and fair. The associate that I worked with was very pleasurable to work with and very professional. However, I still had a loan to pay off with Mercedes-Benz and the business office for some reason sent a handwritten check in the snail mail, and by the time Mercedes had received and processed the snail mail. Check. The amount of my payoff changed, and their payoff didn't settle my account with Mercedes-Benz. I then had to pay personally money to Mercedes-Benz to close my account which Carmax did reimburse me at an additional cost of time and effort on my part. I'm not sure why in this day and age wire transfer, or Western Union couldn't have settled the matter in a couple of days .... Some employees are better than others and I wasn't impressed with the person that met me at the door... He wasn't the normal door guy, I think he was the sales manager, boy was he rude... He was an older guy that had a white spot of hair in the bangs region... even though I made an appointment 3 hours prior to showing up, and had been waiting 12 days for my car to transfer, they had nothing in the computer about my appointment.
