I can't believe this location has three stories worth of vehicles. However, there really wasn't anything that caught our eye. Ty was helpful as soon as we walked in. He directed us to the 3rd floor where all the SUVs were kept. The good thing about CarMax is they don't hassle you at all. And I liked it that this location had a little kiddie room for the kids to stay and play while we looked at cars. I just got back from CARMAX after trying to return an unsatisfactory car which they were unable to repair - and trade for another. One major problem for returning the first car - a Caddy - was the atrocious perfume they sprayed inside and were unable to remove. The other reason was the broken cruise control. They said they fixed those things and they had not. I said "keep it". After returning to CARMAX to pick up the nice Buick I picked out to replace the Caddie, and after all that jazz with the bad roses smell in the Caddy, they did that same thing to the Buick. I said "Keep it". After all that paper signed - they did the same dang thing - sprayed it with cheap car stink. They don't listen. But when I went to Carmax, it was a completely different experience. There was no pressure and double-talk like you get at other places. It was the easiest and least stressful car buying experience I have ever had. Jose Torres was my awesome sales associate. He was professional, courteous, knowledgeable and straightforward. He really went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. He is truly a credit to his team. The price could not be beat. We even left for 2 days and came back. He hung in there. We finally made a decision on the show room floor Lexus and could not be more pleased with it. They have a great "change your mind within 5 days, no questions asked" policy, which I loved. There is also a 30 day warranty on everything on the car! We would definitely shop there again. Various departments and management were competent and pleasurable as well. They stayed late for us. I asked to keep my new tires and they made excuses for not allowing me to do so. After spending quite a bit of money, the wiper blades needed replacing immediately. They are very unprofessional and said I had an appointment and didn't end up having one because they put my name down wrong! They are not good and back up camera is still broken to this day! I ended up not buying a car at this time but was floored by the customer service. This is a rating specifically for Phil French. Stopped in unexpectedly after running errands in a t-shirt and ratty shorts to check out some cars. When I walked in looking for help , I was completely ignored by 3+ workers who quickly looked away when making eye contact. I almost left on the spot in disgust when Phil greeted me warmly with a smile and took me into his office. Phil had excellent communication skills. He thoroughly went over my search criteria and I test drove the most similar car in the lot. I felt comfortable with Phil right away and wanted to continue working only with him. Life is a lot easier and less stressful when you don't have expectations and follow the rules. I can't speak for others, but I had a great experience selling my car at the Torrance CarMax. I made an appraisal appointment yesterday to sell my truck. Dessa helped me book the appointment and asked me a few simple questions. Due to work, I got there half an hour late. I went to the front desk and told them I'm here to see Dessa, and she came right out to greet me. She walked me through the process of what will happen, helped me park my truck in the designated area for appraisal, took me back to the cube and told me the appraisal will take between 20-45 minutes. About half an hour later, the appraiser, Belmarie came to the cube and introduced herself. She walked me around my truck, explaining the appraisal process to me, and told me what they will do with the truck. 5 minutes later, she was done, generated the report, we went back to Dessa's cube, and an offer was made to me. Dessa answered all my questions and I felt welcome the whole time. I went in again this morning with all my paperwork, spoke to Sade at the cashier's window. The process took about 30 minutes give or take, and I was out with my check. This is by far the easiest way to sell your car. The offer they gave me was on point with what I looked up on KBB and Edmunds. I'm really happy with the process, appreciated the attention and customer service they gave me, and really glad they didn't try to low ball me by 50% of the value of the truck like the dealerships I visited. read more

I just want to say how BEYOND IMPRESSED I am with Ken's customer service. I bought my first car at CARMAX last Saturday. Before I bought the car, CARMAX informed me if I have ANY troubles to contact them within 7 days of purchase. As I was coming home from work the bottom of my hood came undone and began dragging along the street. I immediately drove to the nearest CARMAX location seeking help and assistance. What I received was disgusting. I was rudely dismissed by an employee at the service station. It was apparent it was his last hour of his shift because when I asked if he he could help me.. he said "well you need clips and we're closed" I asked him if there was anything he could help me a temporary fix he said "nah there's nothing I can do we're closed" I asked please it's dragging idk what to do and he says um idk come back tomorrow when we're open.. I walked out of the door about to cry THINKING WHY DID I BUY A CAR FROM AN ESTABLISHMENT THAT TREATS CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS. But then.. KEN came out of nowhere, rushed to my assistance and flagged me down. He said don't worry I think I have something in the office that can temporarily hold it together. WOW. I AM IN DISBELIEF! He came back with cable ties, went down on his knees got his pants dirty and fixed it. He then guided me to come inside so that he could schedule an appointment for me to have it permanently fixed. WOW I am about to cry. Kind acts like this does not go unnoticed. He reminded me of my dad, my parents were miles away from help but Ken took initiative and used his creative senses to lend a helping hand. I hope that more employees can act and be more like KEN! Like I said earlier.. I never go out of my way to write a "review" but I am so appreciative and SO grateful Ken was working that day and overheard my conversation. Perfect place to get your vehicle lowballed and deprived of its true market value. Just to give you an example, they offered me 8k for my car which I sold 4 weeks later for 12.5k. For my previous vehicle they offered me $24k and I sold it myself for $31k in less than 2 weeks. Of course this is the business they are in and they will want to maximize their profits but no way I would let them have the extra cash for no good reason. If you have a bit of time to sell and are not desperate for immediate cash, run from carmax and get your vehicle sold on craigslist, autotrader or elsewhere. Not a very good experience for an appraisal appointment . Had prior scheduled appointment but was pushed into the waiting queue for over 45 minutes. On being asked for the reason for delay, a sales rep. hurriedly started the process. When i told him that there was a lease on my vehicle, he ignorantly implied that their offer can never match the payoff even though the vehicle was in excellent condition in true sense of the word and had miles that amounted to half of the expected miles. During the assessment, the 'buyer' wanted to know why the vehicle had been painted even though the vehicle has never been near a paint shop. Its a 16 month old vehicle, mildly driven and been though just the required oil changes. To make such a statement was not only ridiculing the evaluation process but also introducing an unnecessary subjective bias. Predictably, was provided a low ball estimate that did not even match the lower range for KBB/Edumunds appraisal estimate. The only highlight being the sales rep. polite and well mannered. However, should note that this experience was in total contrast to an earlier visit where the sales representative not only sounded knowledgeable but provided a fair estimate. read more

I went to buy a F150 Harley Davidson. Luis was cool helps me out and made sure that the truck will be there for me when I came back for it in a week. Everything was great. Only thing was that when I truck was being WASHED the guy that was driving my truck hit something and damaged the front bumper. I bought a BMW from carmax in July/2019. When I purchased my car I was told that during the 3month 4k mile warranty that I could take my car to any licensed "BMW or CARMAX" location. Well after a week of owning my car it breaks and I have it taken to BMW. I had informed carmax of everything that was going on. They refused to pay for the repairs at BMW and insisted they do they repairs themselves. After 4 different visited to carmax service they have continued to break my car more and more. This last time they worked on my car they broke a bolt off in the head and didn't say anything. The people working on you car when you bring it back for repair have no idea what they are doing. My car is still broke, and they have offered to "take a look and determine what to do" but I'm scared they are gonna cause my some serious issues if they drill or heat the head of my car the get the bolt out. I've even hear the technicians that work here tell their coworkers "I don't care it's not my car" WTF read more

We arrived at 9am, hoping to sell our car with the offer we already got from their LAX location when we realized that they open at 10am. We asked a so called "qualified" associate when and where we will be able to start the selling process and he told us that we need to wait for an hour, so we did. At 10am sharp, we came back as told. It turned out that the business office was already open after all! We didn't want to stress ourself for this, but it was only the beginning. Normally it should have taken 15-20min to complete the selling process but I guess it means 2hours to them. They told us they they were NOT able to transfer the offer to this location. My reason for purchasing a vehicle from CarMax is solely based on me being previously employed there for 7 years at this particular location. My appraisal amount was what I expected and the vehicle I purchased fit my budget. I waited longer then I anticipated but overall that experience wasn't bad at all. Now let's get to the bad and ugly! There was an after market alarm left on the vehicle which one would think would have been removed during the 125 point "inspection" do you know how annoying it was locking/unlocking the doors on my vehicle and hearing two different alarms beep on top of the after market alarm beeping when the vehicle was turned off. On top of the two alarms beeping it was affecting the unlock button when trying to enter the vehicle I had to press the unlock button 3-4 times. After being annoyed with the beeping I called and made an appointment with the service department and my husband was the one to take the vehicle in. As he is driving there he notices the vehicle is pulling to the right so he had them check that out as well. They ended up rotating the tires and a balance(I believe). All of this took place in March once they did the rotation and balance the tire pressure light started came on which I thought was odd. I've taken my car since I've had it to a local tire shop TWO times due to the tire pressure light coming on. Keep in mind I am now outside of that 30 day warranty window after those repairs were made. The first two times I take it they don't see any nails in the tires and today it comes on yet again common sense says something clearly isn't right. They remove the two rear tires and what is found TWO terribly patched tires and my first thought is how the heck were these not seen when CarMax service department performed a rotation and balance. You obviously can't patch a patch so I had to spend money out of my pocket to replace these tires that should have been replaced during the "inspection" process. It gets better!! The rear right door is coming apart as well again I call make a service appointment when I called to make the appointment I explained to the service advisor I have pictures of the issues and I can send those but he proceeds and gives me a 10 am appointment. I arrive early to my appointment and what does he do walks out with me to the car SNAPS A PICTURE and lets me know he will order the part and will call me when it gets in. My time was completely wasted seeing how I said I could send pictures of the door during our initial phone conversation. Buying a vehicle from this place has been nothing but an inconvenience and headache. Yes! I understand a used vehicle is not perfect but no way a door should be coming apart and three months into having this vehicle I am replacing rear tires. Consider revising your inspection worksheet and save people the headache and time of having issues such as these corrected prior to advertising a vehicle on the CarMax website. read more
