Brought my 2 year old son to Carmens for his first hair cut and it was a great experience. Carmen is so patient and gentle and made him feel at ease. She sat him in a little fire truck chair, put cartoons on for him and offered him a bunch of stickers to keep him occupied. We even got a very cute "First haircut" certificate. Ive only ever taken my son to Carmens since he was born. He loves getting his haircut and gets upset if i tell him we arent going today. He is now 3 and still looks forward to the haircut adventure. Carmen is great with kids and she and her daughter truly go the extra mile. Today we had an appointment in the afternoon but unfortunately Carmen wasnt feeling well. Knowing i was pregnant she felt it best to not risk it. They didnt have my number to reschedule but her daughter knew we went to the daycare across the street. She found me dropping off my son in the morning and told me they need to reschedule which wasnt a problem at all. She knows how much my kid loves to get his haircut and would be disappointed when i tell him we arent going after daycare so to make him happy and avoid a tantrum she said she would tape lollipops for him on the door before she leaves for the day. Of course my son was upset that he wasnt getting a haircut and took a moment to calm him down after some crying. We walked over and there were the lollipops waiting for him taped to the door with his name on it. Above and beyond the call of duty from finding me at daycare to leaving treats to being mindful that im pregnant. We are so lucky to have this gem in our town. read more

The cuts are super inexpensive, the hours are convenient and she works fast and you are in and out of there in no more than a half hour. We love Carmen! I've taken each of my kids to her for all of their haircuts! And she always does a great job with my husband's hair too! My son loves her new firetruck chair. Ringing the bell kept his thoroughly entertained during his last haircut. Right now I usually take him in the middle of the day on a weekday when all of the big kids are in school and the wait isn't too bad. I found her over a year ago just due to her convenient location, and that was before Covid when walk-ins had to wait a while, but I had the chance to watch her cut and style an elderly woman, a young boy and a beautiful teenage girl, and they ALL looked amazing. And during Covid? I feel so SAFE and at east. Enclosed personal area, empty chair next door, constant cleaning, double masks. Carmen is a blessing as a hair stylist. She just knows what she is doing. She rans quite a steady ship with her beauty shop. The place is very welcoming and Carmen is very personable and friendly to all customers. She makes a lot of observations and recomadations on what her clientele. The store has variety of beauty books in the waiting lounge to give clients ideas on the possibilities of the hairdos. She got my highlights looking perfect for my 25th year high school reunion. My husband & I have been loyal customers at Carmen's Unisex Salon for years. Over the years, I've recommended many friends and family. A few weeks ago, I went to the salon, as I have been doing for years. It was a cold day, and I wore my favorite black bubble jacket. I hung my coat up on the rack, and when I went to leave, my jacket was gone. I assumed that someone picked it up by mistake, and would return it. Now, three weeks later, I sadly realize that that was not the case. The coat was never returned, which leads me to believe that it was stolen. When I asked Carmen how should we handle this situation, she said for me to bring the receipt in, and she would pay me for the jacket. I didn't even expect the full amount. If she had even made an effort to help locate it, or had cared, I wouldn't be so upset. In fact, what she did was hugely upsetting: she completely reneged on her offer, and instead became defensive and angry. I am very disappointed in her actions, and the tone she took with me and my husband. She has since put a sign stating that she is not responsible for stolen goods. Needless to say, I will never go back there, but most of all I am very upset that I had put so much faith in her that she would do the right thing. She's known me for years and we have been loyal customers. I could not be more disappointed in both her lack of ethics, and her rude treatment of us. read more

Carmen is great. They really know what they are doing over here. They really worked wonders making a 5 month overgrown mop of hair look pretty snazzy. The staff is always full and energy and jovial. Carmen and her staff are the best! I have been going to Carmen since she opened her salon and have never been happier with my hair. She is excellent with color and gives me suggestions and lets me know when my idea may not look the best. She does such a great job with my cut that it makes it easy for me to style my hair. My hair has never looked or felt better. My 16 year old son only lets Carmen cut his hair, He is also always happy with his cut and style. While this place is, in principle, a family business, Carmen does the work personally herself, and she brings a care, touch and wisdom to her craft that makes coming back time after time both a treat and a comfort. Today I got yet another professional, businesslike style haircut from her at a phenomenally inexpensive price - especially for the quality of the results and the overall experience - and was so inspired to review her so that others can enjoy this discovery (i.e. sleeper, find) too. Lastly, while I strongly recommend calling in advance, I have walked in on multiple occasions and only waited about 10-15 minutes before being served, from which point I enjoyed being the center of attention among all who work there. read more
