Carolina Blue used to be one of my favorites in the area, but that has unfortunately come to an end. We went on Friday night and didn't mind the half hour wait for a table; however, our meal took 50 minutes to get served after we ordered. I had the coconut crusted scallops, which were $11.00 and what a joke. There were 2, yes 2 scallops on the plate! Seriously? This is a bar, not a gourmet high end restaurant. We also had the pancetta wrapped asparagus with crab for $12.00. The asparagus stems were woody and the rest of the dish was basically tasteless, for lack of seasoning. My husband ordered the ahi tuna entrée and it was just okay. We had 2 Miller Lites each, and our final bill with tax and tip was $80.00. So my final decision on this restaurant is "Overpriced and Mediocre". We will not be going back. read more

Went to Carolina Blue for my husbands MBA graduation dinner with the family (4 adults and a 3 year old). Place was busy but had plenty of room for others to be sat with no wait. We got seated immediately, ordered all of our food, and then waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited......until an HOUR and a HALF later we just got up and left. We got lied to from 3 waiters and the manager about our food being just about ready. The final straw that took us o leave was when the one winter told us we were just waiting on one more dish to be done, so we just said to bring out what's ready and we would share our meal. But after another 10 minute wait and watching them bring food out to other people, we had to leave. read more

Great food and great service. I will definitely be going there again. I used to go there when it was JG Cooks and it has greatly improved.

We frequent Carolina Blue very regularly (weekly or so) because it's local and the food is consistently good. The beer selection is always broad and interesting. We find, though, that nearly every time we go we have a long wait for service. Sometimes it's waiting for a server to arrive to take a drink order, more often it's for the meal (even when it's something simple that doesn't take much time to prepare). On our last visit we had two rounds of drinks waiting for just wings and chips - and we're not fast drinkers. We can't figure out if the problem is the servers or the kitchen, but on this account Carolina Blue consistently misses the mark. It's a shame, because the chef obviously cares about the quality and taste of the food and with better service the place would be five-star. read more

Portions keep getting smaller. No one does pasta dishes without a salad but Carolina Blue.. Small piece of fish for 25$ but the 2 sticks of aparagus on the side (ala carte and another 5$) make it a nice rounded meal. For me, I like the place.. the atmosphere (when it's not too crowded) is chic and cozy.. but I feel I am settling because there is nothing else close by. You guys need to fix the menu.. stop gouging with the side orders and be fair. Ive also called you out on charging more for a bottle of wine in the restaurant than you do when I walk in off the street to buy it from your package store. read more

For starters, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. Don't be fooled by the "folksy" "bluesy" exterior. This is neither a tap room nor BBQ eatery. It's an utter dump with a crackled veneer of safistication. Let's begin with the clientele. These range from soul-crushingly lonely senior citizens to middle aged middle class individuals desperately attempting to relive the days of American Pie. It's worse than the worst sitcom. Let's move on to the food. You will wait awkwardly long for the appetizer, almost long enough to question whether you actually ordered it or not. The portions are disappointingly small. If you happen to be served the wrong entre, the server will question your memory. Do not give in. The food is dry like desert sands. The smokehouse burger? More like shit house burger! It has coleslaw on it. Coleslaw. The butter is reminiscent of semi-melted joint salve. In addition, your forearms will stick to the table during the entire experience. Why? As you depart, you will happen by a time traveling businessman from the 1990s clearly closing a business deal on his Nokia. Once your are in the safety of your vehicle and pulling out of the parking lot, you will notice a ridiculously drunken individual urinating in the parking lot, next to a vehicle he does not own, in broad view of everyone, in daylight. I stopped in yesterday with my honey to have a late lunch and try the place out. We were welcomed and seated and told the wait might be awhile due to a late surge in guests and a large party. The wait wasn't bad at all but I was taken back with the prices and the meals don't come with anything. I had pulled Chicken which wasn't bad but the serving was small and to much roll. This was served with homemade chips that were good, but howbout some fries or maybe coleslaw as a choice? I ordered a side of applesauce which was excellent but cost $4. I would have had a potatoe but not for $5. Our appetizer was Humus which was excellent, but the bread was burnt on one side that came with it. The bread was actually turned upside down so we wouldnt notice it was burnt. That didn't start the experiance off in a good frame of mind. I liked the atmosphere but thought the menu was a bit pricey for what you get. I think I would like to try Carolina Blue again in the fall and sit outside, listen to some tunes and give my opinions some time to maybe come around! read more

If you're looking for a neighborhood establishment to meet up with friends, have a drink or two, and enjoy live music, Carolina Blue is your place. If you're looking for quality food, clean environment and reasonable prices, stay far away from Carolina Blue and its companion restaurants, Telford Inn and Riverview Inn. On a recent visit to Carolina Blue, I ordered a salad. Simple enough, right? When our server delivered the salad, my fiance, my son and I noticed an influx of gnats around our table. With each forkful of salad I took, the gnats multiplied. Finally we called our server over and told him what was happening. He leaned in close and embarassingly whispered that the restaurant had been having a problem with gnats recently. As if we weren't repulsed enough at that point, we see the manager outside spraying bug spray while customers are entering the restaurant and diners are inside eating. At no point did the manager come to our table to apologize or explain, and while he comp'd the salad ($6 - big whoop!), the bill was close to $80! We've had similiarly horrible experiences at Telford Inn, finding a long strand of hair at the bottom of our plate of french fries and being served a freezer-burnt order of fish and chips. So next time you're visiting Carolina Blue or Telford Inn, be sure to try the Gnat Salad or Hairy Fries.... you won't be disappointed! read more

This is a really nice place with a nice atmosphere, but sadly that is about all. The food all three times I have gone here has been nothing short of terrible across the board. The first time was dinner a $24 small piece of fish with a bland block of polenta and cheaply put together with little flavor. I decided the next time I would try their BQ at the bar and ordered a pulled pork sandwich that came out like an ice cream scooper was used to put it together on a small boring hamburger bun again lame. Then the other night sat at the bar we had nachos, which as soon as they came out were the type where you grab one chip and then entire plate of chips is formed as one solid glob from sitting in the back too long. Finally, got an order of chicken wings, which were totally under cooked and were only five in the order so across the board this place just does not rate for food. FOLLOW UP I went back here this past Friday to meet my friend and the mid 50's dude bartender walks up to me does not say hello like I am bothering him at 4pm and after I tell him what I want he brings me my beer and change and does note even hint at a thank you. D-bag central and then of course two woman walk up next to us and he is like "Hello Ladies What Can I Get You": just a turn off on a place with terrible food and also lame service. So over bartenders with attitude especially some old clown like this who knows he was probably the owner. read more

Tom Brett. I made the reservations 1 week prior and requested the room where Tom was playing. My son was excited since he was going to see "Mr. Tom". They even wrote 'Tom's friend" beside my reservation when it was made. Upon arrival we waited and then they forgot about us. My wife had to remind them we were there. Strike one! Then we were shown to a raised bar table with raised chairs despite having a small child with us. Did they seriously expect him to sit on a barstool with no back? Strike 2! We asked for low table and were told there were none available. I asked for the manager who promptly asked me if it would be right to remove individuals who had made reservations. Eh, hello! What did you think I did Einstein? At no time did he offer to put a small table in the room for us even though more tables could be accomodated. The manager and hostesses need training and leave a lot to be desired when it comes to dealing with guests. The one girl had a dress on the resembled window curtains. And she could barely move in it. Would not recommend anyone visiting this place unless you crave ignorance and stupidity. If they had a rating worse than 0 stars they would get it. read more
