It was a busy day in Key West but we were able to get a great table and they quickly served us some ice cold water which we appreciated. Food: we ordered a fish sandwich, the shrimp poboy, and the pasta. The portions for the fish sandwich and shrimp poboy were huge! I got to try both and they were filling, perfectly crisp, and would pair well with a cold beer. The pasta was pretty good but I would opt for the shrimp or fish next time. We stopped by Caroline's with the intent of ordering just apps and drinks but the Broccolini chicken caught my husband's eye and we settled on an early dinner instead. My husband said his dish was probably the best chicken broccoli Alfredo he's ever had. I ordered the Macon and Bacon salad. I was stuffed halfway through but kept eating because it was so, so good! Service was great-we were seated quickly and perfectly positioned along the railing which makes for some interesting people watching! The Key Lime Punch is the best drink I've had so far this trip! Even my double Captain and Coke only husband said "damn, that's REALLY good!" and continued to steal sips the whole time we were there. I never start a review talking about food however I did with that headline because it is literally the best I have ever had and I have eaten my share believe me. It' is a tad Spicy, not so much for me but if you have any spice sensitivity you may not like. So so good. Ok, back to the beginning! This place is located CENTRALLY in the Key West downtown area. We didn't have reservations but was able to be seated right away around 3pm on a Thursday. The service was great, we were taken care of right away and the service was kind, friendly and knowledgeable. There is indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outdoors they have fans and it actually want too hot. Their prices are also reasonable which is an added plus because Key West in general is a little pricey. This place was so good. Real time review: Have you ever had a fish sandwich just melt in your mouth??? This is our first time traveling down to key West that didn't involve a cruise. Lol. Our very first restaurant that we are trying right now (as I wrote the write this review) is Caroline's. It's an open air seating area; don't worry, they have fans all over the place ok a hot day. Music blaring helps with the atmosphere at this cool establishment. Straight to the food: They have a great selection of seafood and other non-seafood items. They do have a specials menu to choose from as well... We tried the bruschetta which was actually very good. The balsamic vinegar tied that whole dish together. So tasty! The fried calamari on the specials menu was okay. We had to return the first batch thinking it was over cooked. But the second batch came out the same. It tasted good, but it was a bit tough. For our main dishes, I had the shrimp poboy. I have to say, this tasted so much better than the one offered at Tibby's. That's saying a lot because I love eating there. But Caroline's shrimp poboy made up for the calamari 10 times over. My wife had the fried fish sandwich. My wife gave me a piece and WOW. Seasoned perfectly, and like I said above, it melted in my mouth. That was a great piece of fish! The server was very attentive to our needs. We had no complaints. I had the Waterfront Brewery Crazy Lady Honey Blonde craft beer, very good! It took forever to get asked for our drinks, it took forever to get our drinks (which came out wrong), and after the food came out, it took forever to get our check (which was split wrong and wouldn't be corrected). After checking out the Key West Aquarium, my husband and I decided to get some lunch. As we were with our dog, we quickly googled for dog friendly restaurants nearby and were led to Caroline's Cafe. All of the tables at Caroline's Cafe are outdoor seating, but just in case, we confirmed with the staff if they were dog friendly. They said yes, so we sat ourselves at one of the tables. We grabbed an extra chair for our dog to sit on, as I noticed how dirty the floor was. Pigeons and chickens were walking all over the place, and there were bird droppings everywhere. I also did not want my dog to eat food scraps on the floor, which he would if he saw any. One of the staff members, who I assume was the manager, immediately came over and told us that our dog had to sit on the floor. Still, I was hoping if our dog sat on my lap and not directly on the chair, it would be okay. The floor was just that nasty. Once again, the manager came over again and insisted our dog sit on the floor. Disgusted and reluctant, I put my dog on the floor. I could not wait to get him back to the hotel and give him a thorough washing. Our food finally arrived, and it was the most unenjoyable experience. As I ate with one hand, I held on to my dog's leash with the other to keep him from running over to any food scraps and eating it. With one foot, I covered the dried-up bird dropping next to my chair so our dog would stop trying to sniff and lick it. We quickly wrapped up lunch so we could get out of there. The food was average. Our server was fine. But I honestly wouldn't recommend coming here. There are plenty of better options on Duval Street. If you have your dog with you, go to Bagatelle two blocks away. We only just had dinner there the night before, so we did not go back there for lunch. Bagatelle is actually dog friendly and MUCH, MUCH, MUCH cleaner. read more

First visit to the Key West restaurant. Parked across the street at a paid parking lot. The seating and bar are outside a few steps above the sidewalk as visitors stroll by and look at you. It was a pleasant afternoon to enjoy outdoor seating. The restrooms are in the rear of the patio seating. We were seated upon arrival by a friendly waitress. I was concerned that the roosters that freely roam Key West would come to our tables. One employee said they don't have roosters in restaurants. I breathed a sigh of relief. We ordered 2 delicious sandwiches 5/5. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pics of them. I did take a pic of the Cookie Monster and ice cream dessert 0/5 . It is a giant chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. When we took bites there was this weird taste. Then I started cutting the cookie to investigate. It was burned or microwaved too long. The smoking burnt flavor is what I was experiencing. The ice cream that accompanied it was ROCK solid. Video trimmed to 12 seconds of me hitting the rock hard ice cream and breaking the cookie up. We stopped by Carolines to grab an appetizer and enjoy a beer. The server recommended the Bruschetta. This may be the best Bruschetta I have ever had. A mound of fresh, chopped tomato, balsamic vinegar, and a soft cheese (goat cheese?) make this amazing in my opinion. For me this is a return, when I hopefully return to Key West. We stopped here to get something to eat before really checking things out here in Key West for our first time. We decided to share the Macon Bacon salad and not disappointed in any way. Very nice, fresh, lightly fried pieces of chicken surrounding a bed of romaine lettuce with no hard core bits, candied bacon, corn (making it surprisingly fresh), amazing candied pecans, and a pile of vidalia onions (that should have been cut smaller) all tossed in their own fresh made ranch dressing. I'm not a fan of ranch, but this wasn't like any normal ranch you get; this was light and just the right amount. It was very nice sitting curbside because there was a lovely breeze and music wasn't too loud. Our server, Gretchen was on top of what she could control. It did seem like it was taking a while for our salad to come out compared to all of the other food I saw other people getting, but not crazy long. read more

We started with the conch fritters and please pronounce it like you are saying KONK fritters. There is no CH sound. They were delicious and had real pieces of meat in them mixed with just a little red and green pepper for added flavor. Not greasy or doughy. We also ordered the fish sandwich, Cuban sandwich, peel and eat shrimp, and Caroline's Salad Deluxe. I can honestly say that the portions are so big that it is difficult for an adult to finish and sharing is recommended if you order any appetizers.
