Prototypical diner from aesthetic, service and food. If all you care about is bang for buck you will definitely get it here. As far as the food goes, everything is seasoned fairly poorly or overcooked. I have been here a couple times, corn beef hash and pancakes and eggs are what I've had there. The corn beef was more of a borderline beef jerky with an egg on top. The pancake was a good portion but the batter you can still see its consistency as mine were a bit undercooked. Such a grave disappointment. I have come to Carol's for decades but after being gone for a few years their quality has dropped drastically. The corned beef hash, which I always love so much was all dried out and not the succulent moistness that it used to be. Since my family has discovered this spot, it has become our favorite because it's honest food and you get multiple meals out of it. When we get omelettes it feeds the person for a week. lol. I ate breakfast here on Sunday 2/23/25 I had the ham and egg scrambled and because I'm on the Carnivore Diet I substituted the hashbrowns and toast for cottage cheese. When the food arrived it was served on a huge platter. It was a large portion of food. It tasted great. I have been driving by Carol's for a couple years taking my grandkids to school. There's always a long line out the door, so I never wanted to wait. But today, my wife had a breakfast urge, there was no line so it was our chance. First mental note, don't go unless you are hungry. They provided some of the largest portions of quality food I've ever seen. I had the 1/2 order sausage, mushroom and cheese omelet. The 1/2 order is a 3 egg omelet. It was huge, loaded with sausage chunks and mushrooms. This omelet could have fed my entire family. I also had the hash browns and ordered them extra crispy. They were served perfectly. The side of sourdough toast was also great. My wife had scrambled eggs, bacon, and biscuits with gravy. The bacon was thick country boy slices, again no skimping. It was a great meal. We also had a side large pancake, wanting to test a variety of items. Again, a huge pancake that could have been a standalone meal. We asked the waitress if there was anything special we should try. She suggested the homemade cinnamon roll. We took that to go. The cinnamon roll was a monster. It was after dinner dessert and fed the entire family. The grandkids loved it! I love Carol's Corner. We always get the Carol's omelet. A half omelet is plenty for 2 people but we always get a whole one because it reheats beautifully and we can get a couple more meals. The quality of ingredients is top notch. The servers are always so nice. They also are efficient and prompt with refills and anything else we need. What a hidden gem! Well maybe not so hidden because it was PACKED. Even though it was busy we still got seated in under 20 min at the bar. I got the CC hash HALF order, and it was huge. I can't imagine what the full order is like. It had a perfect ratio of ham, peppers, onions, and hashbrowns. The cheese melted while you were eating which was so good. And their country gravy is amazing. My fiance got the country fried steak with no complaints. We sat in front of the kitchen which had us staring at all the food. Wow, my friend recommended coming here for breakfast and this place is spot on as far as the food goes. Do not come here if you don't like large portions of down home goodness. The corn bread hash was great full of good corned beef and tasty. I did get a side of gravy to further indulge which I would recommend because the gravy is bomb too. I was in the area and decided to try something different. I did my search on yelp to find a place to go. I ordered the country fried steak with a side of homemade hash. The CFS was good. Nothing special for me but it was good. The has browns we good. Crispy on the outside but soft in the middle. And a very generous portion. I can not eat eggs so I asked if they had egg whites to substitute. The answer was no. They should have asked if I would like fresh fruit or something but they didn't. The homemade hash was not very good. The beef was just shredded beef to me. Nothing corned about it. It was just beef and diced potatoes. No spices to notice. No flavor. We had some friends recommend Carol's to us & the first thing they mentioned was their large portions. When we arrived around 9, there was line, no surprise. There is no sign in, you just get in line & wait for the next available table. We honestly didn't wait that long, but make sure you're dressed warm enough in case the line is long to where you have wait outside. Just know that there are half portions on a lot of the items. I even saw one customer ask their server if that was a half portion & she confirmed. So even half might be a lot. I'm a small eater, so I wanted something small. We went with the ham breakfast sandwich with hash browns, daily special number one, a side order of sausage links, & a half order of french toast. Yes, that was alot & we did end up taking some home. The sandwich was good & hashbrowns were nice & crisp on the top. The biscuit that came with the biscuits & gravy was more on the cakey side, which my boyfriend really enjoyed. We decided to check this place out since it's so close to the house and the reviews are so yum. It's easily accessible from 78th or St. John and has a large parking lot to accommodate its large fan base. They don't put your name on a list (at least on Saturday afternoons) and you just stand in line. We didn't know that and the people who were already standing there were a little pissed that we didn't. They seated us within a few minutes, but they didn't really need to rush because it took 30+ minutes for them to get us the order. I got a plain burger with tots and he got the hamburger steak with hash browns, scrambled eggs and a side of over easy eggs. Once we got the food, we were underwhelmed by the quality of their cooking. Everything could have used seasoning and salting the hell out of it doesn't count. The prices were on par with the times. (Read: High) A 6 egg Denver omelet will run you over $20. Our two dishes came to $38 without tip. Based on our experience, I can only conclude that people crowd here for the location and the portions which are generous. Yea this is on the corner and you cannot make uturn. The place is bigger then it looks from the street they have a lot of seating inside. We had country fried steak which was good they give you a lot of hash browns. And enough gravy. Which was really good. I had bacon and eggs over easy eggs which were over cooked I like my eggs runny but a lot of restaurants don't get it the I like anyways.. but the bacon they give you like 6 pieces of bacon that is meaty and cooked just right with a little crunchy. But a large portion of poor quality food isn't worth the trip, much less the cost. I ordered eggs Benedict and coffee. The coffee was awful and the hollandaise was some kind of thick packaged goo. Fresh hollandaise takes less than a minute to make, even for a first-timer. What a huge disappointment. The hash browns were also gross, chemically tasting bad -- like frozen hashbrowns cooked in cheap cooking oil. I can understand why this place stayed in business for a long time when it was the only game in town, but it's no better than a Denny's, and maybe worse. On the positive side, the wait staff is excellent. Friendly, efficient, experienced. Too bad the food is terrible. read more
