My fellow pilot and I flew into Anoka and stopped at Carol's for breakfast at the recommendation of the FBO. It was a quiet atmosphere, pleasant for eating. Our server, Tracy, was on the ball, funny, friendly, and made the experience truly enjoyable. The country fried steak had a crispy, homemade-like breading and was savory. The food did not feel mass produced at all. The side of pancakes were light, fluffy, and delicious. We were looking for a breakfast spot and the Yelp reviews told me this place was where we would enjoy good food. We went on a Wednesday at 10am & we're promptly seated. Our waitress was Ashley & she was helpful & friendly. I had the pumpkin pancake with 2 eggs over easy & 3 strips of thick bacon. He had the cheese omelet with bacon. Everything was good, the pumpkin pancake was served with whipping cream and it made the pancake just melt in my mouth. Stopped at Carol's for the first time based on the high reviews. The parking lot was full but we still decided to give it a try. To our surprise we were seated right away. My boyfriend had the Monte Cristo with seasoned fries. The raspberry preserve sauce he said was very delicious and went well with the Monte Cristo. The fries were well seasoned and nice and crispy. I had the Taco Salad, which was very good with the freshly made tortilla shell. It also looked very appetizing and fresh. We shared a Nova Scotia Roll with butter (I honestly have to say that I would have been highly happy with just a bowl of the fresh rolls) Yes they were that delicious!! A must try! Our waitress was attentive, quick and personable. Great service! A must try! Will be back for sure! Oh, and their gift shop is so cute and smells amazing!! I've been to Carol's many times and every time has left me satisfied and wanting to come back as soon as possible. Everything is made in-house and you can tell- amazing flavors and home-style dishes. I ordered their seasonal Salted Caramel Apple Cider as a beverage and it was STUNNING. Thick and caramel-y with a nice tart apple taste. I would definitely recommend it. I wasn't sure what I wanted for lunch so I got the classic fish & chips which was served with homemade tartar sauce. It is typically served with coleslaw but I swapped it out for a homemade roll. For dessert, my mom landed on the mint mousse chocolate cake and it was decadent to the extreme. Next time I will have to try the peanut butter version. read more

Great breakfast or lunch spot, I've never been for dinner. Food is always wonderful, I've never had bad service here. Staff is friendly and happy. It's usually busy, but I have never waited long. It is clean, bright and cute. Always check out the gift shop. read more

There is quota variety of desserts and food menu items, something for everyone. We wanted fish on this Friday and the place we were thinking about had some really bad reviews. We've never been to Carol's and would typically come for breakfast but the photos of the food looked pretty good so we gave it a shot. We came in and put our name in with the hostess. There were two groups in front of us but they were seated pretty quickly. A couple came in and were seated before us, and then a second couple came in and were seated. My husband had gone up to make sure they knew we were on the list and hadn't been seated. A third couple came in and I was about to let the staff know we were still waiting but my husband was curious to see how long we'd have to sit there. More groups came in but we were finally seated. We chose Carol's Restaurant based on their rating. The parking lot was full so we thought that was a good sign. Our group of 4 arrived around 9:30 and we were seated right away. It's a good thing because as we were leaving there was a wait. But, there is a cute little gift shop to browse as you wait for your table. I ordered coffee and the server brought me real cream. My father-in-law ordered a hot cocoa, which it is said is Minnesota's best, he said it was really good. My daughter ordered an iced mocha that she enjoyed as well. I was shocked at the added charge being so high because I could have upgraded my blt to a club adding cheese and turkey for only 2 dollars! So yes, the crap veg was a bit of price gouging. His burger claimed to have onion rings, those were not onion rings, it was onion strips similar to what you'd find on a green bean casserole. Also his burger was not cooked to medium was well under. The "special mayo" on my blt had mint in it, yes mint. Unexpected and undesirable. The tomato was just as the other, garbage. For a restaurant that makes so much of their own bread, desserts, fresh cut fries, soups, breakfast syrups. Taking care and concern to having fresh, homemade/baked delights, this place fell short. Quality and quantity have significantly declined. Carol's used to be one of my favorite restaurants but I will not be going back. My daughter was served raw chicken. This place epitomizes "Minnesota nice." The delectable food, along with the great service in a no-frills environment make this place a can't miss. The specials such as the chicken and asparagus omelet, and the steak scrambler are super, but its the blueberry pancakes that will win you over. The coffee is also great here. A lot of breakfast/diner-type places are no more than a glorified IHOP, Carol's is definitely nothing like that. The quality of the food here is fantastic, and they definitely stick to what they are good at: no gimmicks, no frills...just sweet, sugary goodness! My brother and I were headed north on 65 and needed a place to eat. I map googled places in the area and found Carol's had one of the highest ratings in the area. Once there, we were greeted warmly and took our seat. Our servers were over the top with Custer service, which made this a true family restaurant. Like every other place, prices have gone up, substantially. Onion rings used to be $5.99 a year ago. Now they are $8.99 (up 50%). Onions haven't gone up in prices, so this is inexcusible.
