    French dip with fries
    Nancy E.

Met friends here for lunch and then Bingo. I ordered the walleye sandwich with fruit. It was very good fish. There was a parmesan crusted on the outside and the fruit was a mixture of pineapple and melon. My husband got the French dip sandwich with fries. He said it was ok not a lot of flavor. We had a nice time visiting and playing bingo afterward. Our service was very good. Thank you

Our family really enjoys coming to Sarna's for their Sunday Prime Rib Brunch. The food selection is great. My favorites are the Fruit, Cheese Platter, Cesar Salad, Perogies, Sausage, Bacon, Cheesy Hash browns, Mini Waffles, French toast and of course the Prime Rib w/Aus Jus and Horseradish (raw & creamy). The servers are always quick and accommodating getting your beverages and anything else you request. The restaurant is always cozy & clean. Only giving it 4 stars because the food can sometimes be overcooked. It is best to come early when everything is freshest.

Sarna's was a great spot to go with friends. Food was above average, ambiance was enjoyable and relaxed, and service was great. FOOD: I got the beef dip sandwich which was perfect for my taste-- not too oily (as should be a beef dip) but perfectly enjoyable. The bread choice worked well. Overall I thought they did a great job with this sandwich and I'd bet their other options are similar. AMBIANCE: comfortable, large, and lively but not too loud. The booth was comfortable and the busy-ness made the place feel cozy/lively. SERVICE: perfectly good. No thoughts in particular here.

    Half of a delicious BLT.

The other week, I was in the northern metro suburbs and started to get hungry. I drove past Sarna's Grill in Columbia Heights and, judging by the building's welcoming appearance, decided to park and give it a try (though I know that doesn't necessarily mean the food or service will be good). That said, my decision was bolstered by the spacious, inviting interior, wide aisles, booths filled with couples and families, and the waitstaff delivering trays of appetizing food. A friendly waitperson greeted me at my table and offered me a menu with a variety of options, from burgers and salads to complete meals, including pasta and hot turkey or beef. I chose the BLT on artisan whole wheat with a side of coleslaw. It looked so tempting that I took a bite of half the sandwich before realizing I hadn't taken a picture of the food. What you see in the attached image is the mouth-watering inside of the delicious BLT. As it turned out, I had an hour to kill. After finishing my meal, I asked if I could hang out for a while. The friendly waitperson said I could stay as long as I wanted and brought me a cup of coffee to pass the time. That kindness made my day and earned her a nice tip. Plus, I promised to return the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

    Pierogis - wow!

Met up with some friends here for dinner and drinks. The restaurant was clean and had a comfortable and cozy feel. Our server was friendly, attentive and our meal was served promptly. They had a variety of beers nice cocktails. I had the Maddie's Love Potion - coconut rum, pineapple juice and raspberry puree....so yummy! We had the nachos and pierogis for appetizers. The nachos were loaded with beef, salsa, guacamole sour cream and topped off with cheese - so filling and amazing! This was our first time trying pierogis and this was great! Getting full after all this, so we had the Asian Salad. It was one of the best salads we had! It was full of flavor and had a mixture of veggies, crunchy wontons, grilled chicken and this amazing peanut sauce. Just yum!!! Highly recommend this spot and we will definitely be coming back to try other items on their menu!

Went here for our weekly date night! It was a frigid MN evening but the ambience was cozy with the fireplace on. We tried one menu option from the menu and one of their specials! The Mac and Cheese was full of flavor! While my steak was a little undercooked for medium...I enjoyed the shrimp and mashed potatoes! They had great flavor. Decided to treat ourselves to their delicious chocolate cake for dessert!! Over all a nice experience!

I've been to Sarna's Grill a few times now, usually when other restaurants are too packed and I want a solid meal and a good drink. They have a nice-sized martini menu and some fresh signature cocktails, which are definitely the highlight for me. The vibe here is similar to other chain restaurants like Applebee's or Fridays, with a menu full of classic American fare. The portions are large, which is a plus, but the food itself is pretty average--not bad, just not particularly memorable. We've tried their breakfast buffet, which did the trick when we were hungry, and we've brought people here for lunch before as well. It's convenient, with easy parking lot access, but I'd probably stick to coming here for a martini at the bar and maybe an appetizer rather than a full meal. Solid for what it is.

No lunch today meant an early dinner at this classic restaurant. Today was a great meal with dessert! I got here about 3:30 pm on a Monday and there were lots of others with the same idea! Monday is the day for an amazing steak special. For only $10, you get their Manhattan Steak with a side of veggies and a side of mashed potatoes. I tend to be a bit of a steak snob so I had pretty low expectations. This steak crushed those and rose to the top. I ordered it medium rare and that's exactly how it came out. Mashed potatoes were great as well. I don't order dessert often but today o got their weekly special of. The butter toffee cake with ice cream. So light and fluffy-almost like a delish pancake! Def recommend!

They have a bar but it's used for seating so you are not able to hang out in that area as you wait for your table. Dinner was fantastic. We chose the fish of the day which was branzino. The whole fish was served in a banana leaf with tasty toppings. We shared it and it was a perfect size. For a side we chose the noodles per our servers recommendation. Lots of colors, textures and tastes in that dish. The menu items are meant for sharing and we shared that side as well. Finally, we wrapped up our meal with a chocolate lava cake. It had a chili pepper spice on it which definitely gave it a bite. I loved that they served it with a candle for my birthday. Grateful to see wine from Sovereign Estates Winery in MN on the menu. I had heard really good things about the bar and couldn't wait to try a cocktail. I tried the hmoob ntsuab, which was a delightful fruity cocktail. The cocktail game here is definitely strong. I will admit, when I looked at the menu, I knew I was going to be in trouble, as I have a very sensitive shellfish allergy. They did ask about allergies at the table and did say there were items they could make modifications to and some that couldn't be. We started with the deviled eggs minus thw shrimp. Those were quite good, with the thai basil. Hubs got a beef dish and I had the cauliflower with a different dressing which was SO GOOD. Mom had a salad that had fish sauce, so I didn't try that but it also looked fantastic. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we also got a free mango cheesecake, absolutely fantastic. I do love that this restaurant introduces a different food culture and definitely interesting items to try.

There's not a large amount of seating, but plenty of room for both reservations and walk-ins. It's a small but mighty staff and the service was fantastic. The drink menu is larger than the food menu, with plenty of NA options! My husband enjoyed a hazy IPA while I opted for a BauHaus Nah. Next time I definitely want to try one of the shrub mocktails! It was hard to decide what to order, but we started with the fried brussels sprouts - a MUST get! We agreed these were some of our favorites in the city, plug it was a huge portion for just two of us. Sweet and salty with a hit of acidity from the pickled onions. For dinner, I went with the steak and my husband went with the Cuban. He wouldn't stop raving about how delicious his sandwich was, and my steak was like butter with chimichurri and yuka fries on the side. My only notes would be that the fries & steak were very bland without the chimichurri and the portion was pretty small for the price. We ended the night with the chocolate torte, which was rich and not overpowering. I couldn't really get the hazelnut flavor but I loved the cherries and juice on top. Overall, we will definitely be back to enjoy this spot more - however we might opt to do more drinks and apps than a full dinner since they have so many delicious options!
