I don't really understand the hype around Sarna's Grill. The prices are high for what you get, and the food just doesn't deliver. Most of the flavors fell flat, and nothing I tried stood out as memorable or worth coming back for. I don't mind paying more for a great meal, but this just wasn't it. The quality and taste didn't match the price, and I left feeling like I overpaid for a pretty average experience. Went to play bingo at Sarna's Classic Grill today with freands and decided to have lunch. I had the Prime rib sandwich with fries. Had a blast with bingo lots of laughs no I did not win. ( I never win) The sandwich was a little bland, I felt it needed more flavor. It did come with au just. To me it was also bland. Hubby and I just discovered Sarna's. It is a good value and menu items we've tried were decent, especially the prime rib. There are items which are available, but not shown on the menu, such as a baked potato and a garden side salad, which is large and accompanied by a warm breadstick. However, the Chicken Fried Rice was obviously not fried. It was pale and mushy with large pieces of chicken (there was a lot of chicken) and a few tiny carrots and peas. it looked and tasted like a hot dish for a church supper. Met friends here for lunch and then Bingo. I ordered the walleye sandwich with fruit. It was very good fish. There was a parmesan crusted on the outside and the fruit was a mixture of pineapple and melon. My husband got the French dip sandwich with fries. He said it was ok not a lot of flavor. Our family really enjoys coming to Sarna's for their Sunday Prime Rib Brunch. The food selection is great. My favorites are the Fruit, Cheese Platter, Cesar Salad, Perogies, Sausage, Bacon, Cheesy Hash browns, Mini Waffles, French toast and of course the Prime Rib w/Aus Jus and Horseradish (raw & creamy). The servers are always quick and accommodating getting your beverages and anything else you request. The restaurant is always cozy & clean. Only giving it 4 stars because the food can sometimes be overcooked. It is best to come early when everything is freshest. read more

The other week, I was in the northern metro suburbs and started to get hungry. I drove past Sarna's Grill in Columbia Heights and, judging by the building's welcoming appearance, decided to park and give it a try (though I know that doesn't necessarily mean the food or service will be good). That said, my decision was bolstered by the spacious, inviting interior, wide aisles, booths filled with couples and families, and the waitstaff delivering trays of appetizing food. A friendly waitperson greeted me at my table and offered me a menu with a variety of options, from burgers and salads to complete meals, including pasta and hot turkey or beef. I chose the BLT on artisan whole wheat with a side of coleslaw. It looked so tempting that I took a bite of half the sandwich before realizing I hadn't taken a picture of the food. What you see in the attached image is the mouth-watering inside of the delicious BLT. As it turned out, I had an hour to kill. After finishing my meal, I asked if I could hang out for a while. The friendly waitperson said I could stay as long as I wanted and brought me a cup of coffee to pass the time. That kindness made my day and earned her a nice tip. Met up with some friends here for dinner and drinks. The restaurant was clean and had a comfortable and cozy feel. Our server was friendly, attentive and our meal was served promptly. They had a variety of beers nice cocktails. I had the Maddie's Love Potion - coconut rum, pineapple juice and raspberry puree....so yummy! We had the nachos and pierogis for appetizers. The nachos were loaded with beef, salsa, guacamole sour cream and topped off with cheese - so filling and amazing! This was our first time trying pierogis and this was great! Getting full after all this, so we had the Asian Salad. It was one of the best salads we had! It was full of flavor and had a mixture of veggies, crunchy wontons, grilled chicken and this amazing peanut sauce. Just yum!!! We love eating here for many reasons. The food is very good and reasonably priced. The ambiance is nice and has a neighborly feel. All of the servers we have had have been wonderful. We recently had Molly for the 3rd time and she was just as charming and friendly as we remember her. Servers like Molly encourage us to keep coming back. The Mac and Cheese was full of flavor! While my steak was a little undercooked for medium...I enjoyed the shrimp and mashed potatoes! They had great flavor. I've been to Sarna's Grill a few times now, usually when other restaurants are too packed and I want a solid meal and a good drink. They have a nice-sized martini menu and some fresh signature cocktails, which are definitely the highlight for me. The vibe here is similar to other chain restaurants like Applebee's or Fridays, with a menu full of classic American fare. The portions are large, which is a plus, but the food itself is pretty average--not bad, just not particularly memorable. We've tried their breakfast buffet, which did the trick when we were hungry, and we've brought people here for lunch before as well. It's convenient, with easy parking lot access, but I'd probably stick to coming here for a martini at the bar and maybe an appetizer rather than a full meal. Solid for what it is. read more

We went to Sarna's for Father's Day, only 2 of us. We had seen Tony Cu's review on Facebook. I called twice last week to ask about seating because my husband uses a walker. I also asked about the price of the buffet. I was told it was $24.99. We got there around 12:30 and only had to wait less than 15 minutes. That part was good. Our server came to table to ask if we wanted beverages. We're on medications that prohibit alcohol, so I asked for water. My husband was not at the table then. I was not at table when water arrived, with lemons. My husband hates lemons in his water. Our server NEVER returned to the table until she put the bill on the table. She was visiting with patrons she knew, literally standing and chatting. Not once did she ask if we needed more water or take dirty plates away. A busboy came by once. The woman who greeted us when we arrived (manager) was exceptionally pleasant, as was another server who was very busy with other customers, yet she spoke to us. Not our server. The breakfast items we had were ok...sausage patties; sausage links good; the eggs just ok, very dry and in pans a long time. We did not have French toast or waffles. The ribs and chicken wings were good, but the fried chicken and breaded shrimp horrible...thick, dry, hard batter. They had some sort of cheesy potatoes, which were ok. The prime rib was good, well-seasoned, and the horseradish sauce and au jus good. Drawback was that several x, there was no one at the carving area. We, other patrons, had to wait for someone to come. They had ham, but we didn't have that. They had anemic shrimp, cocktail sauce, and pickled herring, but no one was choosing it. I don't know if it was on ice. The shrimp were tailless and looked like they'd just been thawed. Again, our server was terrible, and I don't mean to be unkind, but she completely neglected us. Only once did a nice young man come to take our dirty plates. I was away from the table when she presented my husband with the bill. I sat down, saw the bill and became quite upset. I was told the buffet was $24.95. I wanted to speak to our server, but she was standing two booths down, visiting with people--for over 10 minutes, so we had to wave the other, pleasant, server down. She said the bill was accurate, $33.00 on Father's Day. I asked why. She said they 'added more protein to the buffet. She may have meant the shrimp and herring. I'd seen a Tony Cu review and he had mentioned all the other items we saw Father's Day. They had various ok desserts, brownies, plain ice crispy bars, chocolate speckled rice crispy bars, some sort of strawberry poke/gelatin cake and bread pudding? I don't know because there was very little in the pan...no one had refilled it. I am not sure, but I believe they normally offer a cinammon roll to buffet diners. We were not offered any. The manager came over and kindly adjusted our bill and reduced it. We expected to pay $24.95, and were charged an additional $8.00 per person. We are good tippers and usually tip 20%. We did not leave the server much. We tip for service, and this server's service was abysmal. Prior to her visiting with the people two booths down, she was visiting for at least 10 minutes with a couple across from us. It's great to have rapport with people she may know, but to neglect us was pretty sad. All she did was bring two glasses of water and the check. It was not a good experience, to say the least. Sarna's and the Angry Pasta has been on my list for a while. Finally got the chance to try it this weekend! Let me start by saying the pasta was good. But I was hoping for mind-blowing... Such an interesting idea to basically turn a sausage and pepperoni pizza into a pasta dish. The flavor was nice - but I would have loved it "angrier". There really isn't much kick. In fact, I'd say the marinara and sausage has some sweetness to it. Just like pizza - I tossed some red pepper in to spice it up. Loved the garlic bread to soak up the sauce too. I do not like this restaurant, we got here over an hour ago and the only thing that arrived was our appetizers, AFTER AN HOUR! And when I finally got the appetizer I ordered, it was not very good, it was very mediocre tasting and I was disappointed, definitely not worth the $20 I spent on one appetizer! No lunch today meant an early dinner at this classic restaurant. Today was a great meal with dessert! I got here about 3:30 pm on a Monday and there were lots of others with the same idea! Monday is the day for an amazing steak special. For only $10, you get their Manhattan Steak with a side of veggies and a side of mashed potatoes. I tend to be a bit of a steak snob so I had pretty low expectations. This steak crushed those and rose to the top. I ordered it medium rare and that's exactly how it came out. Mashed potatoes were great as well. I don't order dessert often but today o got their weekly special of. The butter toffee cake with ice cream. So light and fluffy-almost like a delish pancake! OK I got one of there specials chicken fried rice with a pork egg roll. I dont think they know what seasoning is it was so bland no flavor nothing chicken was dry everything else no flavor nothing no color. Egg roll was over fried grease bomb no flavor just a ton of grease and no flavor. Got mozzarella sticks 16 dollars and they where nothing special it was just not worth it. French toast, 2 Diff type of eggs, sausage, prime rib, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried chicken...I just named some. There are more items. The cheesy hashbrowns, BACON and the BBQ ribs were my favorite. They also had desserts. Rice crispy bars, cake and SOFT chocolate chip cookies. Not sure if they were homemade, but I liked them! Service was quick and friendly. I had the prime rib special which I thought was delicious and tasty. Huge baked potato and a wonderful salad. The babyback ribs looked good (didn't get a chance to try) and the elusive liver and onions were good according to my dinner mate who ate it!
