This place is always good! If you're hungry for a hearty breakfast and don't mind waiting 40 minutes on a weekend, you've come to the right spot. Since opening its new location, most weekends are packed. Wait times can be relentless. All for good food though. From the coffee to the coffee cake, you can't order anything wrong here. A great place for a perfect reunion with friends or a meal out over great conversation. Whatever the case may be, you'll come to love this place too. The food here is a typical American menu with large portions. Bathrooms are always clean. Parking is easy and no hassle. read more

I avoided this place for a while because there is always a line. Finally bit the bullet and put our name in. Honestly the wait wasn't too crazy, they said an hour and it was closer to 30. Food was great and the staff was on their game. I get the hype. Happy for their success read more

Never disappoints! The food is good, the coffee cake (drenched with melted butter) is amazing, and the staff makes the entire meal experience well worth the wait. Our server JJ was a gem. She made sure we had everything we needed before, during, and after breakfast. The 3 of us shared Eggs Benedict plate & traditional breakfast plate so we could save room for the coffee cake. Did I mention that the coffee cake is amazing!! Already looking forward to my next big breakfast here. read more

I was in the area for medical appointment so I looked up this place and went . First thought wen I arrived crowded. The service was good and I ordered the famous coffee cake smothered in butter , yummy!!! I also ordered the breakfast burrito smothered in gravy also very yummy . Recommend this place but u have to wait to get seated but worth the wait only open till 1300 read more

Finally tried this place and was blown away by the quality of the food, and the impeccable service. Our server was so relaxed and happy to be working that I was genuinely blown away. Our food (a Breakfast Quesadilla and Eggs Benedict with coffee cake) was exceptional and we will definitely be back in the future to try more. (and most importantly, for more coffee cake!) The portion size for the Quesadilla was superb and very generous. The prices were beyond fair, as well. read more

This place reminds us of Urth Caffe in DTLA. We love this place and its breakfast menu/coffee cake. After checking in, we were soon seated. The host was very courteous. The waitress was also very courteous as she suggested that we should replace our bread with a coffee cake instead. I love our cake, Denver omelette and quesadillas. A local perennial favorite breakfast spot in Redlands. If you have a sweet tooth do yourself a favor and try the coffee cake. Many people including myself think it's to die for. The only reason to shy away is if you were counting calories because I'm sure it has more than its share however it is delicious nonetheless! To be honest with you this place has a long wait to get in for a good reason. They have a lot of great food. I love the breakfast tacos I love the spicy chili Verde sauce that they serve with the chili Verde omelette. I love their pancakes. They serve them in several flavors and varieties. Do yourself a favor and exchange one of your side items for some fresh fruit. Here all of their fresh fruit is locally sourced and is really delicious. The service is always great here. I can't really think of any bad experiences that I've had. And I come here all the time. The location is great. The place gets really busy though so do yourself a favor and come early. read more

Gotta say one thing about Carolyn's: the portions were HUGE!! It's not common for us to take leftovers home but these plates had us beat. We ordered chicken fried steak and a scramble. I couldn't believe that for sides, we could choose coffee cake and biscuits with gravy!! The coffee cake was superb; warm and moist with butter melting on top. Mmmmm! Biscuit was a little bready for me; I prefer a flakier biscuit which is the only reason I took off one star. Otherwise I was really impressive by the generous portions and that their food wasn't overly salty! read more

Service was excellent. There was an abundance of food that was absolutely delicious they are known for their sweet roll which is actually a huge slice of a crumb cake that is extremely extremely good. If you don't like butter smothered on your food then all you have to do is ask for no butter on the crumb cake sweet roll. We were on our way back to LA from Big Bear and we were looking for a good place to eat. This place has a 2 HOUR WAIT. So I was like "Challenge Accepted". And OMG. Best decision we ever made! What I'm going to rate: Country Fried Steak California Scrambler Coffee Cake Food: I cannot stress this out enough. DO NOT SKIP ON THE COFFEE CAKE. It was absolutely DELICIOUS. You can even just go there and eat that with their house coffee and your day will be so much better. GO GET IT. It's worth the calories. Country Fried Steak - My partner noted that he loved that it was actually CRISPY unlike other fried steaks that we had at other breakfast joints. Nothing special but it was PRETTY GOOD. The gravy was also YUM. California Scrambler - this one is pretty basic but I love that it TASTED FRESH. The GUAC was DELICIOUS and I love that the portion was just enough! It wasn't overcooked. It WAS PERFECT! Price: $S This for me is VERY CHEAP. $40 something for 2 people is NOT TERRIBLE! Parking: PLENTY. This is located inside a plaza so you can park anywhere and even do a little window shopping while waiting for your table! Service: This breakfast place was probably ONE OF THE BEST SERVICE I HAD. I checked in via Yelp for a 2hour wait. We were 4th in line by the time we got here. The host who checked us in was ABSOLUTELY NICE. He helped us right away and made sure we got a table within 10 minutes (WHICH WE DID!). This is also the reason why I think this place deserves 5 STARS. Our server was the same. Carolyn's is one of my favorite breakfast spots. I love the hustle and bustle that goes on around me with the servers constantly moving. They are always sweet and sometimes even funny. Although they are so busy, the servers have great personalities. The food is always on point. I've ordered a variety of things but the chile verde omelet is one of my faves. And you MUST get the coffee cake! The ambiance is a little noisy and busy but I don't mind that. Last thing I'll say, I truly appreciate being able to put myself in line before getting there. read more

My friend woke me up at 8 a.m. on a Saturday to go to this local favorite. I ordered the coffee cake which was delicious and a meal in itself. I would recommend sharing the coffee cake with the table unless you want leftovers. I had the pumpkin pancakes which were disappointingly dry, but had good flavor. I also ordered the biscuits and gravy and they were a bit of a let down. This is a cute spot, but definitely not worth the wait. The food looks delicious, but it was a bit of a disappointment considering how highly recommended it came. read more

Highly recommended by a colleague while I was visiting the area over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I originally asked for a recommendation on donuts in the area, and was re-directed by being asked "What about coffee cake?", which coincidentally led me to Carolyn's Cafe. Went on a Saturday morning, and the place was pretty crowded, a majority of the seating was outdoor, with social distancing and mask wearing - the service was quick to order and pretty efficient with getting people in and out. (Keep in mind with Covid they have a 90 minute seating limit) Their menu is expansive with so many things to choose from, I went basic with a egg breakfast plate, but in all honesty I did it all for the coffee cake which is your "bread" side option. It did not disappoint! You think that was whip cream on it... that's butter baby! The cake was super moist spiced with that cinnamon and sugar and served warm to order - definitely walks the talk. read more

Wow! While waiting for my car to get tinted. I found this amazing place on Yelp! Service: I was greeted by Becka with a smile. The vibe here is very positive and everyone is happy here. This tells you a lot about this establishment. The staff is very personable, courteous, and very attentive even though this place was very busy. This place is BUSY! Lauren, my server was very attentive to my needs, check if I needed anything, my coffee was never empty. Great Service Lauren! Jay Jay who was sitting next to me was very hospitable and gave me information about the place and answered all my questions. She gave me tips for next time I return. I found out she was one of the managers. Tip* If it is busy, you can put yourself on the Yelp waitlist. Good to know! Food: I ordered the Western Chicken sandwich A grilled chicken breast, smothered with jack cheese, avocados, and bacon. They put a lot of bacon by the way. Called in an order to go, the food was not fully cooked, the butter was in the cake when I asked for it on the side (gets soggy) and had an uninvited guest you can see it on the pic, I called and explained what happened and the girl that answered tried to offer me $10 gift card "because she didn't have the food to see it" I told her I have the plate in front of me and can take it in tmrrw when they open and she just ignored it and said that's all I can do for you. I just hung up, pointless to try to reason with someone that does not want to take care of their costumers, it's not always about the money SPECIALLY when there's issues with the food. A simple sorry to begin would have helped the situation but instead she thought she can offer me $10 lol Sucks because I really like their coffee cake but hopefully next time they put a better person to handle issues read more

This spot is probably one of best breakfast place in the area. Just make sure you check the waitlist time on Yelp and you can also join the waitlist on Yelp. They will text you when you are ready. I been here twice and the food both times are delicious. The price is pretty reasonable as well. The service both times are very good and very helpful as well. The food was tasty and their coffee cake is amazing. The hot chocolate was also good. I ordered the country fried stale last time and the second time I was here I ordered the eggs Benedict. They were both good and the side dishes (potatoes, and fruits) were also good. I will definitely be coming back. read more

This place is beyond description! I'd like to keep it a secret, but it's too late...everybody loves that coffee cake! If everything on the menu wasn't so delicious, I'd be happy to just indulge in MORE coffee cake with extra butter! The staff are buzzing around like bees and with smiles on their faces! Long lines of hungry customers does move along quickly. I wish I lived closer, but resisting that coffee cake would not be possible and I'd add too many pounds to my already overweight body. this review is solely for their coffee cakes. I've heard for so many years " go to carolyn's cafe for their coffee cakes. go early or they'll be sold out" After a good 4 years, I finally made my visit and ordered myself a warm coffee cake. If you're really hungry a slice can feed you, otherwise this is a good shareable size. I had them warm up my coffee cake with butter. I think next time i will ask the butter on the side. i found the butter to be on the salty side and didnt know if i liked the sweet and salty combo for coffee cake. BUT for the coffee cake itself. oh it was as magical as everyone put it out to be! When i'm next in the area i will try their brunch items. but you bet i will always get the coffee cake. read more

And I wasn't being a creep or anything but he was serving the table in front of us- elderly couple. It really warmed my heart how he took care of them and there table! In 2016, Carolyn's Cafe moved to a larger location in Redlands (double the seating capacity). We are known for our hearty breakfasts but we also serve a full lunch menu including sandwiches, salads, burgers, soups, and more! Our signature item is our fresh baked Coffee Cake, served warm with melting butter!! Keith and Jan bought Carolyn's Cafe in 2014. Keith had been in food service for over 30 years and this is his first sit-down restaurant. We are not planning on expanding our hours anytime soon. Minimum wage is now $14.00 per hour and will be increasing again next year. It makes it too expensive for us to stay open longer.

Our waitress has on break, but this was communicated well and rhe other staff stepped in until she returned. We got a mix of drinks and food and loved every sip and bite. I will say the serving sizes are not what I'm used to for a Mexican restaurant but not tiny, around 2 to 3 tacos per plate. I got the birra tacos and I do wish they would have had a side but it wasn't a huge issue. Now the music for the elephant in the room. It was very loud in the small space. I would say club level, which is a lot for a dining experience. It didn't take away too much, just made talking hard. Another summer specific thing to point out, it is not the standard California A/c situation. We were in not way dying of heat, but it was warm. The day's temperature was around 102° so that of course was taken into account. If you have a group of friends that need some yummy food, this is your spot. Just maybe not a 1st date location, OR the perfect 1st date place

The breakfast quesadilla might just be my favorite breakfast food of all time. There's plenty of seating inside for family dining though we usually order takeout and it's ready within 15 minutes.

The only reason it caught my eye was because our tax preparer was just down the street. It was obviously well loved by the locals after reading their great reviews and seeing a full parking lot. And this was on a Wednesday. We only had time for a quick bite, ordering nothing out of the ordinary. A quickie breakfast of sausage, scrambled eggs, and pancake, were all we had, but everything was nicely done. The pancake was big, light and airy, served with a carafe of warm syrup and a huge scoop of butter. The scrambled eggs were moist and fluffy, the sausage was basically a Farmer John sausage patty that was properly warmed but not overcooked, and very good tasting. My only criticism was the coffee being too thin for my liking, but keeping our coffee mugs filled was something they definitely did well! The service was wonderful. They knew we were in a rush, and handled us with TLC the entire 35 minutes we had. What I do know is, I will be looking forward to our next tax appointment, hah, knowing our morning will start off right here. Next time...chicken fried steak, or maybe a bowl of hearty homemade soup, y'all!

I had the country fried steak and I have to give it a strong 9/10. Perfectly cooked and gravy was also just as tasty. Potatoes were a little bland and needed some seasoning. Pancakes are the size of a medium pizza! lol I'll definitely be coming back. Our server Kim was amazing! Very sweet and friendly. Overall service here is a 10.

The quality of food was fresh, prepared just right, and the service was fast and welcoming. It's in the nice down town Redlands area so never too busy or loud, in the small city. Our server, Aubrey, was also AWESOME so definitly give her a raise lol. My buddies and I were wanting some steaks and drinks after work, and we were not disappointed. 100% will be back. The only thing to be weary of is if you get outdoor seating. Many folks downtown tend to smoke marijuana so sometimes the smell will make its way into the patio area.

The server seemed confused when I questioned it, which made the whole thing even more awkward. And unfortunately, the crème brûlée itself was also a miss. The sugar topping was torched too long and had a noticeably bitter, burnt flavor. The server (and possibly a manager) apologized, and I was given $2 off the drink, which I appreciated. Between the okay food and the especially strange service and lack of communication the experience left me disappointed. The atmosphere is definitely the highlight, but for me, the service experience was enough to say I probably won't be back anytime soon.
