I've been coming to Carothers for nearly 20 years and have always had a good experience. They are usually incredibly quick, helpful, and have great prices. This morning I came in as soon as they opened. The guy helping me acted like I was inconveniencing him by being there and seemed reluctant to sell me tires. Lots of sighing. There were 4 other people that pulled in after me, but he wasn't the only one opening the shop... They kept me notified of the extra needs and repairs and when it was expected to be done. I was in tears prior to having my car towed to their shop. I had a horrible experience previously with a imposter mechanic. He tore my whole vehicle apart. This family owned shop EXCEEDED any and all expectations I had. I don't know why I procrastinate taking care of those endless maintenance duties for my car because if something happens to my car, I'm screwed. I know this yet I still put off oil changes, tune ups, tire rotation etc., which leads me to the star of my review, tires. I've skated by, literally, on my last set of tires longer than I should. I know Les Schwabs reputation having purchased from them many times but I wondered if I didn't have some similar options, ones that may save me money even. Even better if I saved time. Costco? Good tire selection and prices....damn, have to make an appointment. Same with Schwab. Then Carothers was suggested to me. Okay, I'll check them out. I called Carothers and received a great price quote for 4 tires which includes flat repair, rotation and balance for the life of the tread. Decided to give Carothers a try. Good call. Drove over without an appointment. Staff was prompt, friendly and professional. I was in and out with a new set of tires in less than thirty minutes. Saved money and time. These guys are amazing, they have the best prices, took me in without appointment and did their job super fast. I came in driving with my spare tire , after I got a total waffle-pancake flat, totally flat tire. I bought a used compatible tire they had on their rack and they put it in place real easy. They deserve all the recognition they have worked to earn. Also were friendly. Side note to oregonians if you haven't found out the hard way: be very careful driving over curves that randomly go into the street itself especially in the dark rainy nights with reduced visibility. So I'm still not happy that my safety was endangered, but I am pleased at how the situation was resolved. I called the owner and explained the situation, and he was very concerned and asked me to come in. Upon arriving, he inspected the tire in question and found the rim had some damage to the lug holes due to wobbling and beating on the studs while the tire was loose. He replaced the rim for me and provided two new lugnuts to match the old ones, while also reimbursing me for the charge of installing the tire and for the parts and time involved in fixing it to be minimally driveable again. He treated me fairly and didn't question my story or once suggest I was making it up and also offered to check the tightness of the tire in a couple days if I came back. All in all, probably the best outcome I could have hoped for, considering what happened. read more

Found that I had a flat while I was out running errands on a Sunday and this place happens to be the ONLY tire place open on Sunday in Hillsboro. I needed either the fire repaired or the spare put on (extra set of tires was back at home). I called, they welcomed me to stop in immediately for them to take a look. I was there in 15mins, the tire was unrepairable. They put the spare on for me and encouraged me to address the situation immediately. No charge, in and out in under 30mins. Headed back today to have the other set of tires put back on. A special call out to Javier for all the help and kindness. read more

So grateful that Carothers tires is open on Sundays! I was in Hillsboro for a school event, and discovered that my tire was slowly leaking and wasn't going to make it back to Vancouver. From my husband - Very happy with this place! I had been trying to track down a vibration in my car for a while now. Got new tires from a chain store, replaced u-joints and drivetrain mounts but still the vibration continued. The only other thing I could think of is that the suspension was shot, so I came to this shop as it had pretty good ratings. They offered to give it a look and found that the place I originally purchased the tires from did not correctly balance them when purchased. What a bittersweet relief to finally figure that out. Thank you Carothers, you saved me from replacing future unnecessary parts trying to track this down. And thank you Javier for staying late and taking the time to show me where the chain messed up. I purchased 4 new tires, within a month I got a blowout going 60mph on the highway. took it back to get a free replacement, he wouldn't give me anything but a new tire at his cost. Poor customer service. The last time I'll go out of my way to try to support a smaller local business without recommendations from people I know well. Just to clarify, nothing I did to the tire or my style of driving or the terrain I was driving on had anything to do with this tire blowout. For the record I paid $340 for (4) tires, he said since it's not warranty'd he'll give me one at his cost (55), with my calculations, even if the tire was not under warranty from the tire company he still could have given me a replacement for free and still made a $65 profit off me. Bought tires here in march. Just spent the first sunday in oct. Putting air in both front tires every 20 minutes to get to my grandson's birthday party. Monday we confirmed that the inside tread on both tires was shot and the rear tires weren't far behind. read more

This place has been in business for a long time, but has really gone down hill. When I arrived and parked my car next to one of their tire trailers, a homeless lady emerged from some roached out cars parked in a vacant lot next to the business.She was acting weird so I locked my car door and started to browse used tires. Some red-headed dude with a scraggly goatee appeared with a customer. The 'salesman' wore blue rubber surgical gloves and huffed on a cigarette while he gave his spiel. When he finally made his way toward me, I just wanted out of there. After I quickly determined they didn't have any decent used tires for my car, I made my getaway from the filthy environs of Carothers Tires. read more

Worse experience ever! Dropped off my tire that had a nail in it. They said would take only 30 minutes. I left and came back 45 mins later and no one there seemed to know it needed fixed. They were VERY unprofessional and rude about the mishap. Now making me late for work they still charged the $15.00 to get it fixed and took an additional 20 minutes to get it ready for me. Unfortunately this is one of the only tire places open on a Sunday. Otherwise I would have never come here in the first place. What a joke!!! Went in Sunday 11/23/14 for a couple tires. After waiting for over 45 minutes with no help I decided to leave. There were 2 employees working, well I shouldn't say working. If I could rate a half star I would. This place is a f***ing joke. They broke the pressure sensor in my wheel. Instead of replacing it like they should have they tell me it gonna be $65 more. They took the broken one out to show me, I went. Ext door to the auroparts store bought a new and they still charged me to I stall it when they already took the old one. I found this place from a referral from a customer when I worked at Trader Joe's about 4 years ago. The service was great, the price was great and they gave me a referral to a fabulous car mechanic. From the first time I went there a few years back I have gone back again to get more tire and we had tires and rims put on the truck. went in to get a flat fixed they told me the tire was ruined. wrong! so they sold me a used tire to replace it. did not back up the warranty. tweeker got mouthy with me . would have decked him but i just got out of the hospital. asked if the tires should be rotated, he said just drive backwards! what the hell kind of service is that? my last trip to to that place! read more
