Love, love, love this cafe! Food is amazing, staff is nice, service is fast, parking is convenient. What more can you ask for?

In a short version, this cafe is an old style cafe and everything an old cafe is to be expected of them. In detail: My girlfriend and I chose this place today because we hadn't heard of it before and wanted to see something different. Oddly that didn't happen. Let's begin with pros: * tables and chairs were clean and comfortable * staff was welcoming and calm * it is everything you'd expect and food is okay. Now cons: * as well as a pro, this is a con. It is everything you'd expect. There's nothing that pops out about the food or decor to make it special. * ceiling are old and show water damage while some panels are missing * staff, while welcoming, acted almost bland and bored. And did just what's to be expected of them in a restaurant setting. Not engaging. * it may have been the carpets, but there is an overwhelming smell of dust * overall decor was an old style which is a comforting look but also outdated and lacks any interest in color or vision. My experience was not bad. But not great. Would I come back? Maybe. But not soon. Prices are fair but I'd rather have my visits to cafes feel more appreciated overall. read more

This is an old fashioned home owned family restaurant. Food is pretty good. I truly enjoyed my omelette and the pancakes were tasty as well. Service is fast and friendly. Bathrooms need work, badly. Also I noticed the last time I was there the staff may need retraining. I witnessed multiple times of someone pulling their hair out of their face and then touching food, or handling money at the cash register and touching food. One time ok it was an accident, but after each account there should be either gloves or hand washing (or both). That's why they're lost one star in my view. read more

Would have given this place a 5 star; I will explained at the end. The food was great! I ordered a Denver omelette with hash browns and toast. I asked if the hash browns can be crisp. They were. Just how I liked them. Other places just don't get it. The toast was thin but perfectly done. Now the reasons I did not give this place a 5's. Seating: Booth was uneven. Lamps a bit dusty. Carpet needs to be replace or straightened. Waitress: Gave the impression; damn more customers. Don't get me wrong. She took my order quick and came by to asked how I was doing. I just wish she had a smile on her face. All in all I would recommend this place for breakfast. read more

This is an aging coffee shop in Simi. Its clean and the prices are very affordable. I've only been for breakfast. Unlike the popular Simi breakfast places - its not crowded and there's no hassle to getting a table and chilling out over a good breakfast. Alright, I'll be fair - they need a serious makeover FOR SURE. The exterior looks nice and homey, but interior is kind of falling apart. The last time I was in there was right after a big storm system passed through, and they had some tiles that had fallen, and others that were bowing and about to fall themselves. It looks like of dingy, but I decided to not judge a restaurant by it's old building. I always get real service here. There is none of that sugary sweet customer service, where you feel like they are only being nice to hopefully get a good tip. My service is always kind and prompt, but REAL - like they're actually have a conversation with you. They are like real people instead of robot waiters/waitresses. I actually appreciate it. Again, I'll be fair here - I've only had one thing on their menu. I always look at the menu and think about trying something new, but I just ADORE their Denver omelette. Why try something new when I love what I always get? I can try other things at other places. They actually scramble their omelettes with the ingredients instead of just making the eggs and laying the ingredients in the pocket or on top (which I hate). I also get quick service because they don't seem very busy. I just wish they could start making enough to remodel the inside. It would probably really help their business, and keep me coming back more than I already do! read more

Carriage Cafe is the best place to get breakfast in Simi Valley, hands down. My partner and I go there every Sunday for brunch and usually order the same thing but, occasionally will dabble with a few other menu items. It's very affordable, incredibly family oriented, and very tasty. We especially love Danika (and her mom!), she always goes out of her way to be super sweet, accommodating, and makes you feel like an old friend and not just a customer. My partner and I joke that we will be coming here the rest of our lives as long as the building still stands. If 6 stars were an option I would have selected that as my rating. read more

Lunch was here today. Overall, it was a pretty good place. I ordered the pancake sandwich, (only six dollars) but was confused when I got an order of pancakes with a side of sausage and eggs. I had to assemble the sandwich myself, putting the eggs and sausage inside the pancakes as I thought it should be done. The pancakes were light, thick and fluffy. the sausage was tasty, the eggs were scrambled quite nicely, and their iced tea was also quite exquisite. A good combo. It's also a pretty cheap place. Thankfully, the "table full of eastern-european men related to the owner who stare at you." didn't seem to be there there, so I'd imagine that that also improved the dining experience. read more

Just leaving the restaurant writing my experience. I orderer a steak sandwhich as opposed to my friend ordering a breakfast meal. I asked my sandwhich to be well done, and came out with a lot more fat than i anticipated. Also, the sandwhich was just really tuff to bite into and eat in general. My friends breakfast was just as standard as you would make at home. The interior of the restaurant is very outdated as there is clear damage to the ceiling, 90s furnitire and a bad B.O. odor. The waiters do the bare minimum to interact with their guests. They do just what they need to do just to do their job done. They aren't as happy, and are very monotone and plain. Over all, this place needs a major update to keep going in business. I'd prefer to go to Old Santa Susana Cafe or Firehouee cafe if i was to go and support an appropriate breakfast/brunch/lunch location read more

Odd little place. I walked in to one of the waitresses talking in front of the store with one of the most grungy, tatted up, punky guys I'd ever seen. Don't know that I've ever seen a person with so many facial tattoos before. Ordered a rueben sandwich with fries. I thought ruebens were supposed to have thousand island dressing, or something similar. No dressing. Sigh. I could have lived with that, except I hate freezer burned fries. Then, while eating my substandard meal, that waitress I mentioned earlier was speaking with another guy inside the restaraunt, practically yelling, about her love of the Raiders. Again sigh. I don't care what your sports preferences are, but that was pretty obnoxious behaviour from an employee. The only thing preventing them from getting a single star was that the man running the place was very nice and attentive. read more

I like the Montecristo sandwich they have here. It's pretty decent and the price is alright! I prefer ordering on the phone for pickup because these guys here are not the best at customer service, and the very few times I actually ate here I almost walked out! Not sure what causes them to look upset or not be friendly, maybe they are upset they are going downhill, or maybe that's just how they are. Either way, to enjoy their decent food I recommend it to go. I also noticed a bunch of regulars there, mostly older people. They get very good service there, but not new faces. Like I said I can't say anything bad about the food, but the service is mediocre at best, that I have received that is. I do recommend the food to go! And yeah definitely try that Montecristo Sandwich with fries. read more

You're simple cafe, but prices are awesome, food portions are quite big..They have huge homemade waffles. Great service, very friendly.

This place is awesome. I had been ordering my little lunches (my version of Poutine - fries with gravy) for the longest time here, they are so accommodating! It's a family owned business run by an Eastern European family so being of that region myself, I was immediately comfortable with the laid back personable style of their service. This place is a GREAT REAL old school Simi Valley Diner. The only one left in the entire Simi Valley. Always decent breakfasts and I've never had a problem here. Service is good and friendly for being a place that hires old school waitresses. Montecristo sandwich is my go to sandwich. Prices here are much better and more reasonable than most places in Simi. I'd much rather go dine here and spend my money eating here because it's normally a very quiet dining experience for reasonable price food with a great variety to pick from, rather than bother wasting my time and money going to any of all those loud yuppie wannabe half assed sports bar junk food chain restaurants like TGIF Fridays, Applebee's, Chili's, Red Robin and the list goes on. This is an old school classy diner with good food options and classy old school waiters and waitresses in a quiet setting. Any Simi local should know about Carriage Cafe. The food is always prepared fresh and deliciously seasoned. The staff is consistently the same women who work their tails off to make everyone happy and keep our glasses full. I have never had a bad experience in over 20 years of eating here! Recently, I arrived a little before opening and as we were leaving to head somewhere else, the server came outside and welcomed us in over 30 minutes before opening because she didn't mind letting us in early! How many places would do that for you?! They aren't just a breakfast place, their lunch menu is just as delicious. I love the atmosphere and listening to the ambient conversations since most of the regulars are locals who come here in groups to sit and catch up. Give it a try, you won't regret it! read more

I have been to carriage a good hand full of times. The food is good if you know what to get and I usually have an ok experience here because most of the employees seem like they don't want to deal with you and have better things to do. However this sunday morning I went there and it took 20 minutes to get a hello and a seat. They wouldn't even look at us when we walked in. After sitting down one of the workers family member showed up and they were seated right away and even had coffee and their food on the way. I was still sitting at the table for 10 minutes without a menu a drink or anyone even recognizing we were there. So we just left and not a single employee we walked by even said a word to us. Unfortunately I will not be eating here ever again as apparently they don't need my business. I am a very patient and understanding person. But this was clear disrespect. read more

Love love love! Our family often have breakfast here after church on Sundays. The staff dote on kids! You feel really at home, here and the price is right! They NEVER rush you, even when they are busy. On one Saturday, I was studying and I asked if I was taking up the table too long. The server said "take all the time you want." She served me enough iced tea for an army! The perfect place for breakfast and lunch. I love their corned beef hash plate, the comfort open face hot turkey sandwich (served with mashed potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce AND veggies-Thanksgiving all year long), their club sandwich (w/tons of yummy skinny fries). My kids have food allergies and i always call restaurants prior to going to see if they will accomodate their allergies. I just called this place just now to see if there was a manager I could talk to and the lady who answered said Huh? And I repeated is there a manager I could talk to? She said no and hung up. The food here was ok nothing fancy. I got an Ortega omelette which was just canned green chilies cut up and a slice of American cheese on top, hash browns were standard and the toast just like at home. My husband ordered over medium eggs and got gooey over easy eggs. The place is a bit run down but that's to be expected it's a very old building. The one thing I REALLY liked about this place was the service. The waitresses here treat everyone like they are their most important customer. They keep an eye on you and pick up on cues like a soon as we put our menus down they came over to take our order. They are very friendly and they had their regulars that came in that thy treated like family. I do wish the menu had more of a variety or even a make your own option on the omelette section because they did have some "fancy" omelettes, but also had a lot that were 1 item plus cheese only, while I liked the chilies and cheese it would have been nice to know the charge for extra items so I could throw some bacon in there. read more

We come here a lot for the great selection of food, great prices and you are always greeted with a smile. This time I got the everything bagel w/cream cheese, a fruit cup and coffee. We have had their breakfast several times. Scrambled eggs were very good and so were the omlets. Ice tea is also good.

For a moment I thought I was taken back in time...lol!! Then I started to think I was in the middle of an early 80's set about to film. I don't want to be mean and say the place is so outdated, but it sure is, and it's so outdated the spider webs became cotton already. Your presentation says everything. I have nothing to say about the food...not good, not bad, just there, enough to kill the hunger, so not worth it. And the price? $8 something for 2 eggs, 2 sausages and French toast...nothing to drink...hhhmmm not worth it. Sorry. Never going back. It def need evrything new or atleast cleaned...for a minute I couldnt stop starring a the dust on the blinds. read more
