I never write reviews but I do this in hopes of saving someones money and time. I paid $15/sandwich. I got chicken salad on a croissant that was beyond bland. Also got a club wrap it has a ton of lunch meat but it just shouldn't be $15. They're overpriced. The bakery items all look great maybe they should just do that. I paid $42 for a cookie, 2 sandwiches and some water. It just wasn't worth it. $10/sandwich aligns we'll with the quality in my opinion. read more

OH, MY, GOSH!!! This is really an amazing place! From the service to the ambiance to the food. Stopped in with 2 other co-workers and was not disappointed. I ordered their spinach and cheddar quiche and can say I've never had anything so good. The crust literally melts in the mouth and has a beautiful made from scratch taste. They even had a full quiche in the 'take away' case, that would have come with me if I wasn't staying at a local hotel. The wraps are huge! Definitely enough to fill up even the hungriest of guests, or a perfect opportunity to eat half and have the other for a snack later on in the day. The sides were plentiful from chickpea salad, carrot salad and my favorite, the potato salad. All available in the take away case for a quick glance if this is your first time at the restaurant. If you really want a treat to eat there, or take away, stop by and have a look at the desert options. The chocolate cake, carrot cake, cupcakes, cookies and brownies will leave the most die hard sweet tooth happy and satisfied. We really enjoyed our lunch here. I had the ham biscuit and Brunswick stew. Both were so delicious. My daughter had the same but with the tomato basil soup. This was one of the best tomato soups I've ever had. My husband had the barbecue sandwich and he said it was delicious which says a lot coming from a barbecue connoisseur.It's a small restaurant with few tables but the food is all made to order. My only complaint is that all the sandwiches are made as wraps. I really dislike wraps. read more

Stopped at their Yorktown location because of the reviews but I can say I would probably not eat here again. The dining area is EXTREMELY tiny; there are six small two-seater tables and one larger round top. Service was good but food wasn't amazing. I ordered the Strawberry Turkey Croissant with potato salad as a side and my hubby chose the Hogg Island BBQ platter. Our food was just average. Pretty basic and a bit underwhelming. Unfortunately I bit into a piece of potato that had a rotten center so the moldy rotten taste stayed in my mouth and I didn't feel like finishing the rest of my sandwich. This small sandwich and dessert shop is big on flavor. We, a family group of 13, invaded earlier this week, and had a great lunch. From the hummus, to tomato basil soup, to the US Grant wrap, everyone loved their meals! US Grant was perfect: smokey turkey breast, blue cheese, cranberries and greens! We had to try the eponymous Carrot Cake and chocolate cake for dessert. Brought it home, and they both were remarkable! If it were closer we would have gone back for muffins! read more

My first issue is the seating , it was very hot outside so I had my sister first look for indoor seating then asked to be moved . There was a place to sit and we could have been moved . The waitress told us no because the manager said a larger party was more important . Now here's the kicker, I'm six months pregnant, ( this was mentioned to the waitress) us pregnant women CANNOT be in the heat very long . Over the course of waiting, several people came and went . NEVER were we asked if we'd liked to be moved inside for better accommodation. The food was average not worth the price. The Apple slices I was served were already browning . The appetizer was small and had unnecessary pieces of greenery and onions. I assume to take up space on the plate. Older women stepped out several times appearing to care about our experience which served useless and unnecessary. I do not recommend going here . Poor customer service. I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

Simple Southern Deliciousness for lunch this afternoon at Carrot Tree Kitchens in Yorktown at Riverwalk Landing! No fancy plateware needed as long as the flavors are true to the roots and the Southern Sampler of Pimiento Cheese and Ham Salad with Crackers is an excellent start. The Hogg Island BBQ Platter With coleslaw and red bliss potato salad with dill looks so unassuming but is well balanced. The BBQ has good balance of vinegar and sweetness and of course major points for pairing it with a potato roll! The coleslaw was just how I like it. Not mayo thick and with good crunch and sweetness. The Potatoes had a good bite to them with just the right amount of dill where it was not overpowering. The cupcake was a touch on the dry side but the icing was surprisingly not cloyingly sweet and matched the flavor of the cake itself with raisins added. The food was good as well as the service. I had a wrap with the carrot salad and thought it was excellent. They were willing to accommodate us with separate checks as we had a large party. The service was mediocre, and although I arrived for lunch both times, they were out of most of their food both times, highly limiting the selection. This place was very cute by the water. But the staffs attitude was awful. I came in with my two year old as soon as they opened, my husband stayed outside with our dog and sat at the patio while I went in to get a to go order. There was a misunderstanding as soon as I walked in because my husband sat down so they assumed we were requiring waitressing service. My daughter got a carrot cake and husband wanted they biscuit sandwich, but they were out of the biscuits so I asked to switch it to a croissant instead and they wanted to upcharge the sandwich double because they were out of something. The cashier was really rude and was rushing me while I looked over the menu. Mind you I was the only customer in the whole place. I paid and then they brought the food out and then tried charging us again. We took our food after waiting over twenty minutes and we only got cold food minus the one sandwich. I found TWO hairs in two different dishes. One was white and the other was dark and curly. I wouldn't go back again just because of how rude they were. read more

Great surprise! Stopped in on a nice winter day after a little beach stroll. My wife and I shared a chicken salad on croissant with apple slices. My wife raves about how perfectly the croissant was toasted (really?). But it was great! I added a cup of Brunswick stew which was also fabulous. Ended it all by sharing a piece of fresh carrot cake. This is a quaint little bistro on the Riverwalk. The biscuits were buttery goodness, like you're eating mana from Heaven is God was a Southern Grandma. Then you order the Southern sampler, and your tastebuds thank you for the ham salad and pimento cheese. Just when you think you're done, you order a slice of the carrot cake...with two forks...to share. This was the best carrot cake I've had. It was moist and a perfect blend of spice and sweet. The pineapple mixed into the batter helps keep that moistness, and I was hogging that cake like I was Golem from the Hobbit. I made it my precious, and I'm going back for more...just for me. My friend and I were in search of a reasonable lunch before visiting the American Revolution Museum. Yelp steered us in the right direction. The Carrot Tree was perfect. We had the chicken salad on croissant and the pulled pork plate and both were delectable. My friend loved the carrot cake for dessert while I enjoyed one of the Pretty Squares. The Carrot Tree did my husband's and my wedding cake in August 2012. (I never wrote a review and I probably should have!) It was awesome - seriously wonerful cake. It was apricot/almond white cake with some sort of butter-cream frosting and then a groom's cake that was chocolate/raspberry. The person who brought the cake to the wedding was also super helpful all around. My husband, mother-in-law, and I went to the Yorktown Carrot Tree more recently (end of May 2015) for lunch. We loved it! Reasonably priced. A good amount of food. I had the sampler platter, my m-i-l had a wrap, and my husband had a strawberry-meat sandwich thing. It was all very good. I'm always impressed by them! They recently (May 2015) did the cakes for a friend's wedding -- and it was great too! read more

My review is not about the food. It is about the customer service. I went in to get desert to go. My husband ordered and when I ordered mine (a cupcake), I was told there were some in a to-go fridge behind me and that was fine....until I picked one. At that point it was whisked away and I was informed it was already sold. If it was already sold why was it in the fridge? They didn't even ask if I wanted anything else. She just took it away and didn't acknowledge me after that. Very strange and pretty horrible customer service. I will definitely not be back. read more

We ordered waters with our meals and when I went to go grab it from the fridge, she said I didn't purchase those, yet the lady was asked to put waters on the bill.
