I had just started a road trip vacation, when my full crown came unattached! I was away from home, and it was a Saturday afternoon. I read that I was in danger of infection if I didn't get it treated within 24-48 hours, so I tried to find whatever emergency dentist I could. Very few dentist offices were open. I tried one earlier in the day, who said he was afraid to take it all the way off for fear of breaking it, claiming he didn't have the right tools. I called another one, and he wanted to charge an exorbitant "emergency fee" for coming in during a weekend. While looking for dentists in Oxnard, I was lucky enough to stumble onto Dr. Carson's contact info. When I called, I got an answer right away, and they made a special trip to the office for me! I have to admit I felt pretty special watching the dentist and his assistant unlock the door to let me in. They took an X-ray of the problem area (without insisting on taking the whole mouth like some dentists annoyingly require with new patients). Unlike the previous dentist, Dr. Carson had no qualms about removing the crown, and deftly re-attached it, and also offered a diagnosis as to why it came loose in the first place. He tested and found that indeed my crown had been mishapen when it was initially put in a year ago. Then, he adjusted its shape so I wouldn't have the problem again, and THEN went on to fix another crown with a similar problem... all free of charge! All the while, he and his assistant were very friendly to me, even though they knew I was just passing through town and had no chance of being a repeat patient. In sum, not only did I get an on-demand service for a very reasonable price (I had no dental insurance), they did some additional work to prevent it from happening again. I would highly recommend Doctor Carson's Dentistry to anyone. It's a family run business with absolutely great service. I've done everything from regular checkups and cleanings, to getting teeth whitening trays, cavities filled, and implants put in. And with every visit, I appreciate them more and more. I've been battling cancer since 2007 which took a toll on my teeth. I've been cancer for free for almost 2 years now and I can see the toll cancer & chemo took on my teeth. I'm in need of so much work but with being a newly single mother with all the expenses that goes along with it, I put my dental work aside. One of my front teeth broke on a Saturday afternoon so I started going through Yelp trying to find a Dds that would take payments or help a mama out in need. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a reply email ON A WEEKEND of all days.. Wow that blew me away and I was thrilled. They set up an appt for me that Monday and it worked with my work/school schedule. The staff in this office is so nice, the atmosphere in the office is calming and having it be a family business makes it all that much nicer. Dr. LeRoy Carson is awesome! I am so grateful to him. He saved me from undergoing an apaciectomy (by a different doctor) that was scheduled for today and which would have in all likelihood left me with a numb mouth for the rest of my life or worse. The other Endodontist at a different facility had performed a root canal on a tooth of mine in October 2012. That root canal failed and was causing me problems ever sice it was done. I was feeling very uneasy about letting that same doctor perform the apaciectomy, even though he was going to do it free. As the procedure drew nearer, I started to feel that I just wanted the tooth extracted by a dentist. Then I received good medical advice from another doctor that cautioned me to go to an oral surgeon for a 2nd opinion on the apaciectomy procedure or extraction. That's when my guardian angels led me to Dr. LeRoy Carson. I'm sure it was more than luck. Upon meeting with Dr. Carson, he took my history and some x-rays. His feeling was that in view of a lot of other medical problems that I have, that extracting the tooth would probably be best. However, he stated that he could not make a determination of whether he would do either the apaciectomy or an extraction until he was able to see a better picture of the problem. He said he would need a catscan to be able to see my problem more clearly . His office even has a catscan right in there! After the catscan, Dr. Carson was clearly able to see and point out to me that the overfill from the root canal was quite substantial and was actually within millimeters away from a crucial nerve. He could clearly see in the results from the catscan that neither the apaciectomy nor the extraction could be done safely and was far too risky. The risk being that I could end up with my mouth being numb for the rest of my life or worse. Today I realize that right now I could be sitting here in that condition. The doctor who wanted to "fix" the root canal with an apaciectomy had only taken an x-ray and had no idea just how risky the procedure was. I feel truly blessed that Dr. Carson was so thorough and was able to point out the danger that existed. The office staff at this facility are all very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I currently have no dental insurance and signed up with the"care" program offered by his office. I was happy to be able to take advantage of their "Care" program that allows two years for full payment, without interest. Dr. Carson is not interested in the $$$ signs. I found him to be a very caring person with a passion for what he does in his profession. I count my blessings to have been somehow guided to his office. Thank you Dr. Carson! read more

Do not go to Derek Carson, he will make you lose your teeth. I lost my tooth with him from a failed root canal and severe infection that he did not resolve . I had to get a dental implant and bone grafting. The first day I went to see him for my root canal he opened my tooth and removed my pulp and he mistakenly cauterized the side of my lip. Here is the definition of cauterize (To burn or sear with a cautery, to deaden, as to feelings or moral scruples; callous). As you can imagine how painful this was. I had an open wound to the corner of my lip for weeks. And he is a smoker, his hands smell like cigarette when he is working on you. I filed a grievance against him with my insurance company. With all due respect stay as far away from him as you can. He does not care about you. I called his office several times and left messages with no returned call. read more

I'm writing an update to say that there needs to be some improvement in the billing/insurance aspect of this business. Dr. Acasio's work is impeccable and he is the best dentist that you can have. However, I felt mislead by the front desk and misinformed. I was not told of the total cost of a procedure. I thought that I was paying for the entirety of a root canal at the first appointment, but that was just the first part. The entire root canal is charged over several sessions. This is misleading and wrong. At this moment, I have a temporary filling on a root canal and I had not been informed that I would need to buy an entire new crown until after the root canal. The billing is shady and misleading. I was also told that my insurance would cover the procedure. AFTER the procedure, I'm being told that my insurance didn't cover anything so now I'm expected to pay cash. I have been going back and forth with the office and billing for a while now and I'm now expected to come up with $1K+ to cover what I was told was covered by my insurance. And my tooth is not even fully fixed. So, my one visit is now $2500+ in cash for me to come up with. I would not have had the procedure if I knew that my insurance was not going to pay because I can't afford this. Whenever I had questions for the front desk, they all seemed so confused and misinformed. They are all very nice, but don't seem to know what they're doing. read more

I tried to schedule an emergency appointment for my father who has having severe tooth pain and as I was explaining the reason why we needed the appt the receptionist Patty rudely interrupted me saying she had other calls she had to get to. Never said please hold or anything just "I have other calls to get to" then as I let her know that it wasn't very nice to do that she said she had more important things to do. I've been a receptionist for an office too so I know how busy things can get but customer service is always first no matter what! I have been going to Dr. Leroy Carson for over 20 years as well as my parents and brother. I've been to one other dentist (change of insurance) but I went right back to Dr. Carson when my insurance changed. He is VERY knowledgeable and explains things very thoroughly so you can understand. I haven't been in a few years but the whole staff remembered me and were asking me how my family is doing. Everyone in that office is very nice and courteous. Today I was helped by both Beverly and Daisy in the front. I was impressed on my way to check out that Daisy had already checked my benefits for a minor procedure I will need done in the future. I recently visited this office as a patient, and was completely surprised by the service and how technologically advanced their instruments are! When you walk in to the office, it has no resemblance to a "traditional" dentistry. You won't find harsh, white, sterile surfaces or hard plastic reception area furniture. Instead you are welcomed by a warm, homey environment with comfortable seating and lots of family photos. I think this is the first gift of comfort this dentistry offers to its patients. The rooms are carpeted too, but don't let that fool you into thinking their old fashioned. I was considering an implant and they had the ability to perform a ct scan and pull up my results in less than 20 minutes! They were also able to mould me for a whitening tray AND set it in the office! I took it home with me the same day! To top it all off, this place has some of the most caring and friendly staff around. Where to begin? The office was able to fit me in the same day and were super fast to call me back into the room. My previous dentist emailed my xrays which they received and had ready for the doctor to review. After meeting Dr. Acasio, I realized he is patient and actually listens to your worry and concerns. It's not like you express something and the typical dentist responds "yeah well lets take a look." Like I really got to share exactly what has been going on as well as what my future plans are. I recently relocated and I left a wonderful dentist behind and I was doubtful that anyone would ever reach or surpass her level but I was wrong. Dr. Acasio is kind, attentive, thorough, informative and efficient. I actually had a pleasant experience and was not concerned in the slightest about being uncomfortable or pain. I'm writing this review because I always check other people's reviews before considering a business. One of the main reasons I decided to go to Dr. Carson's office is because he has such good reviews. I brought my daughter in as a new patient to get her annual checkup and cleaning. X-rays showed she had some cavities, which she was unaware of and were not bothering her. They said they could take care of the cavities and do her cleaning, told us what our co-payment would be after insurance and we set up an appointment. On the day of her appointment we paid the co-payment and Dr. Carson did the work. Six weeks later we get a bill for $252 dollars! I thought it was a mistake so I called the office and was told they would find out and would call me back. I never got a call back so I assumed it had been a mistake and they had sorted it out. Three weeks later I get the bill again, so I call the office and they tell me they must have made a mistake in their math somehow when they gave us the pre-treatment estimate. I told them I didn't think it was fair that I had to pay for their mistake and they proceeded to tell me I was liable for any money owed them for work performed weather I was aware of it beforehand or not. Two weeks later I call to set up payments and I'm told the person who does that is not in the office and that they'll call me back. I never got a call back. A few weeks after that I get a letter informing me that if I don't pay the bill they'll send it to a collection agency. So I paid the bill. In my opinion, it doesn't matter how good the Dentist is if the office staff can't get it together. read more

You all heard the expression, that you get what you pay for and in most cases, I believe it's true. But not with DR. Carson! I'm missing 3 front teeth do to an accident. I'm in sales and a Marketing Director for a large Natural Stone Super store....so my smile mean alot. I visited 5 dentist in regards to my situation, I would have to pay from 3,000.00 to 5,000.00 dollars because I also have no dental plan and most of the dentist didn't make me feel comfortable. I did what alot of people do, and went to Mexico to get my veneers. The doctor made me feel very good and the price was right..., but two years later my veneers fell apart. I was very lucky to meet Dr. Derek Carson, he explain to me what what the doctors in Mexico basically used cheaper material and it was not strong enough. He took care of me right way, made my situation a priority. He was fast very skill full and I truly believe that he is what this profession really needs. I moved to Camarillo about 4 years ago and as part of setting up my family in a new town I looked for a good dentist. I have had some dental nightmares in my lifetime and a good honest dentist that doesn't hurt you is a priority for me. Anyway my wife found Dr. Derek Carson for me and I have been seeing him faithfully for over four years now. My wife and two teenage children go to him as well. The kids were 10 and 12 when they first saw him and they love him too. Unlike the rest of my family that rarely even get a cavity I have had to have several major treatments. The first one was a bridge 3 years ago that covers the front 4 bottom teeth and the work was perfect and has never caused me any problems. The next problem was an infected tooth that had to be pulled in an emergency no appointment type of situation. Dr. Carson took me right in put me under with a little laughing gas and the pain was immediately gone. He has now completed the first stage of putting in an implant to fill the hole that was created by the pulled tooth. I was given the option of another bridge but chose an implant instead. My wife used to run a Doctors office and understands health insurance very well. She says that Dr. Carsons staff is awesome and very accommodating as we have had 3 different insurance policies over the last 4 years. Anyone who claims Dr. Carson is not giving them options on how to pay for their procedures should take the time to actually know what their policies cover. Dental policies are notorious for not covering much of anything other then basic cleanings and cavities. Also, while I am a smoker myself the reviewer that claimed Dr. Carson is obviously didn't take their Xanex that day. He has been encouraging me politely and gently since I first met him to stop smoking as it apparently has been linked to bone loss in the jaw. If you want a great dentist that really cares about his patients then go to Dr. Carson. If all your concerned with is cost I would suggest the dental college at USC, they have a great program where the students do the work and are supper vised by a professor. read more
