My friends and I (a group of 8) dined in on a Sunday night and it seemed like a slow night. We were hosted, served, and bartended by one individual - she was good! Everything here is made to order and brought out in the order that they're finished being made which is why some entrees came out sooner than others. Tempura Green Beans (4/5): These green beans added somewhat of a fresh component to dinner and the tempura batter was so flavorful. I loved the sweet cream cheese sauce that came with it. Bacon Jam (3.5/5): The bacon jam was good, but it didn't really stand out to me. The bread wasn't crunch or warm. It was soft and seemed as if it was sitting out. Cocoa Espresso New York (4/5): The steak was cooked to my liking - medium rare. Good price for what you get. Steak was a little cold, I think the chef wanted to run both steak plates at once and ours sat out a little. Chicken skin (5/5): Highly recommend. Chicken skin with honey. Rabbit Alfredo (2.8/5): First time trying rabbit. I would compare it to chicken almost but more gamy and tough. I wasn't a fan of the rabbit. The pasta itself was cooked well. It needed some salt though. We tried to use their yelp check-in for free dessert but our server had no idea what it was. They should remove the check-in offer. read more

My Wife and I came here a while ago and it would be silly for me not to share our great experience! Firstly we were treated very kindly and the service was great! After that, the night only got better! For our entrees, the waitress recommended that we get the Cocoa-Espresso NY Strip and the Baked Mac & Cheese to eat together, and that made for the best combination! The steak was so tender, cooked perfectly, and we loooved the slightly bitter and rich cocoa-espresso rub. The Mac & Cheese had the most amazing and strong cheesy flavor which we adored! We also tried the Brussels Sprout Caesar with Kale and Bacon. The dressing on this salad has a depth of flavor that made this one of the most unique and tasty Caesar Salad's we've had! We paired this with the Chicken Thighs smothered in an Alabama White Barbecue sauce! These chicken thighs could be cut with a fork they were so tender and they tasted smoked which was delicious. Topped with that amazing barbecue sauce, this dish had us saying OH MY GOODNESS. For appetizers, We tried Crispy Chicken Skins with Smoked Honey. Talk about a flavor explosion!! These are like chicharrones but 10000 times better, and that smoked honey is legendary! next came the Pork Belly with a buffalo bleu beurre blanc sauce! Such tender, fall-apart pieces of pork belly bursting with flavor from the beurre blanc. Exceptional! Third was the "Devil's" Eggs- most definitely an elevated deviled egg with pancetta and caviar. These are creamy, salty, perfect! Last but definitely not least are the Killer Shrimp, fried and tossed in rocoto & aji amarillo pepper cream. Absolutely dynamite! Crispy, with the most crave-able sauce. YUM Finally, we finished off with the Glazed Donut Bread Pudding - SO moist, and we couldn't get enough of the two sauces it was covered in! Those I trust love Carson Kitchen in Las Vegas, and it's stood the test of time there. Now that the hype is over, it was time to go visit our version. We arrived right at opening on Saturday to beat any rush. Unfortunately, even well into lunch hour there were too few people. They do an excellent job with COVID friendly policies. From meeting the host, being seated, and our excellent server, everyone was friendly and competent beyond expectations. I also visited with the bartender after his excellent rendition of a Bees Knees. It beat the one I had in the American Bar at the Savoy, arguably the best bar in the World. He really knew his stuff as i talked to him. He's better than almost any restaurant bar deserves. After cocktails, we ate the crispy chicken skin they are known for. It's too big for two people, but we found a way to eat them all. The veal meatballs were excellent. Along with the beets, and grilled mac and cheese, it was more than we could eat. We had a well priced bottle of Barbara di Asti to go with the food. It may have started as a Kerry Simon celebrity chef restaurant, concept, but today it's a truly excellent restaurant with very reasonably priced food. read more

Nice/modern looking place. Full bar (fyi) and we had good service at the bar. The cauliflower and the beets were good, light and nice for sharing. The shrimp and the pork belly were my favorites, the pork belly was very flavorful and the right amount of crispy. The sauce that came with the shrimp was yummy, the shrimp are fried so you know those taste good... I had (from the brunch menu) the drink with prosecco, it was refreshing it reminded me of an aperol spritz. read more

We had a reservation at 7:30pm on a Saturday for a friend's birthday. We weren't seated until 8pm even though there were tables available. 1/2 the things on their menu online were not on the menu at the restaurant. Furthermore when we began ordering 1/2 of the items on the printed menu were out at 8pm on a Saturday! The food was sub par. However the burger was very good. The minute we walked in it was very loud, it was like sitting in a concrete room with no sound barriers. On the flip side the server we had Jake, was outstanding. I told him he should get a back up plan to this job quickly as I would be surprised if the place was still in business within the next couple years. Serious management issues. Went in with a group from work on a 5:30pm reservation. Not busy. Drink options were good. Wine selection not much to write home about. We had 3 different IPA all good, one Pinot Noir by the glass (ok) and two non alcoholic drinks. We ordered pork belly, burnt hot dog ends, deviled eggs and Vension Tacos. All 5 star quality. Entrees we're Meatloaf, Short Rib Steak, the other beef item and baked Mac and cauliflower as sides. The center plate items were all good the sides basically had no flavor. If the cauliflower had been crispy it would have been good. But alas it was kind of soggy. Service was ok. Nothing wrong with it. But no wow. Carson Kitchen was my recommendation because of my experience with the Las Vegas restaurant. I'll give the SLC outpost another try but it lacks the soul or spirit of the Las Vegas location. read more

Omg, chicken skin, not healthy, but incredibly tasty!! The pork belly is eye candy! It comes in 3 one bite cube (ok, it took me 2 bites, because I don't want to finish it too fast!). It's the combination of savory, sweet and sour. Btw, I also like their diner ware. Just take a look, it's cute! The space is big with industrial look. We've been to the Vegas location and like it a lot.. so we chose this as our first meal in SLC for a girls weekend. The food was a Big disappointment. The dishes are very heavy, and sauces are overpowering on the sweet side, which detracts from tasting the ingredients. The root veg with cashews wasn't tasty at all, and the cubed veg were overcooked. We shared 6 items (bacon jam, mushroom flatbread, spinach salad, tempura green beans, salmon) and would only order the salmon again. The only big positive is the service... hostess and servers were all very pleasant and attentive. But the food needs to be greatly improved. read more

Came as a group of 4 on a Sunday evening. I was surprised at how many open tables there were but nice to not be too crowded. Ordered the Oysters, Chicken Skins, Shrimp, and Bacon Jam. All of which were out of this world good, though I thought the chicken skins were a bit salty. I do love salt luckily and the honey sauce helped balance it out. For the entree, I decided to do the Black Rice and Oxtail Risotto, which I'm extremely curious about the recipe and want to know how it was made. I didn't care for it at all and that's really never happened to me before at any restaurant. Took one bite and immediately was put off but really couldn't put my finger on what. The rice? The oxtail? The sauce? Again, I'm super curious about the recipe for it. If you come here GET THE BANOFFEE PIE, OH MY LORD. I died and went to heaven. It was INCREDIBLE. Chic restaurant with an inventive menu! The prices are very fair considering the quality of the food provided. We stopped in for a quick lunch. The staff all wear masks and there are signs on every other table to block people from sitting at them in order to reinforce social distancing. Here's what we ordered: CRISPY CHICKEN SKINS This was so savory and smoky! Reminded me of pork chicharon but way better and less greasy. They pair it with honey that adds to the great smoky flavor. The portion size is more than enough for two people. I was tempted to order a second one to go because it was so delicious. BLACK RICE & OXTAIL RISOTTO Thick and creamy and definitely filling. Don't let that plate fool you - the bowl is quite deep so you get a generous portion of risotto. It came with a gremolata on top to give it a nice kick - so good that I asked for extra gremolata on the side. GLAZED DONUT BREAD PUDDING This dessert wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, which I appreciated. Pretty straightforward and the bread was very soft. This place is TO DIE FOR! The head chef, Skyler, is so kind and professional. I love to sit at the bar by the open kitchen and watch them do their thing. The whole staff is friendly and fun to chat with while they work. I have eaten here quite a few times and everything has been great. My favorites include the pork belly, tempura green beans, and rabbit Alfredo. I am not too adventurous an eater so when my husband ordered oysters and fois gras (two separate appetizers) I was very skeptical but both were delicious! Because of how good everything always is I have decided that I would be willing to try anything on their menu. They can get pretty busy so make a reservation and give them a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

The crispy chicken skins with smoked honey were an unexpected surprise. Just like chicken bacon and the smoked honey is the perfect dipping choice. Chef Joe cooked my butter buger perfectly and don't worry when it comes and the cheese isn't melted all of the way, it's supposed to be like that. And you'll know why once you take a bite and the Boursin cheese comes into play....... Absolutely delicious. The in house made tater tots are as addicting as hell and I found myself sad when they were gone I finished with the glazed donut bread pudding. I just have to laugh at how ridiculously good it is. The Manager Margo and the bartender Val were both very warm and welcoming, and I felt very comfortable eating in there as a compromised person. We went to Carson's kitchen on Cinco de Mayo because I had a family member staying in downtown for the week. We didn't want to go to a Mexican restaurant for fear of it being crazy crowded. The reviews of this place meant WE HAD TO TRY IT. We showed up at 640 and found my aunt had been waiting for 20 mins for a glass of wine so we were a little concerned it was going to be a bad service night. However, about 10 mins later, the manager came over to explain what was happening. Apparently, the apartment upstairs had a faulty drain and their maintenance team poured 50 gallons of water down it and it RAINED on a whole table of guests.... they were busy addressing that and trying to decide if they should stay open. We told the guy that we were fine, not to worry about us. That was clearly a bigger issue than our drinks. We are SO HAPPY they chose to stay open because the food was delicious. All of our drinks were so unique and full of so many flavors as well. Below is a list of everything we got. Bloody Mary grilled oysters- WOW. So sad there was only 3 on the plate because I could've eaten 20 by myself. They tasted like Bloody Mary and were chilled and spicy. Devils eggs- best deviled eggs I've ever had. The pancetta pieces were a great addition and there was no Mayo or mustard taste which was great. Plus CAVIAR TOPPING? Hello. Pork belly- these were good but a tad dry. I would've liked more of the sauce myself but still good. Crispy chicken skins- these may have been the best thing we got. This is so unique and I've never tasted anything like this before. They were light and spicy yet still chewy and the honey sauce was such a smart accompaniment. YOU MUST GET THESE! Baked Mac and cheese- SO CHEESY. This paired perfectly with the short rib steak. Usually Mac and cheese lacks actually cheesy goodness and this has NO SHORTAGE of delicious creamy cheese and soft noodles with crumbly toppings. Oxtail risotto- meh. Risotto was undercooked and this lacked taste. Could have gone without this. Short rib steak- the steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce on top added much depth to the plate itself. It also had more food than the other dishes so a good one to share. Fudge brownie with brown butter ice cream- meh. The fudge brownie should've been soft and warmed up so that it would melt with the ice cream. Personally, unless they change the item to be a warm brownie, I wouldn't recommend getting it. Regardless, this night was great and i am so glad they stayed open for those of us with reservations. I would definitely come back and recommend others to eat here. It is tapas style so be prepared to share each plate snd order ALOT of food :) Note: I should mention that the drain issue was 100% the fault of the apartment upstairs and was being handled while we were eating. I doubt they have any additional problems related to that neighbor. read more

I'm only visiting SLC for business; so I was unsure of where to eat. I went to Carson Kitchen as it was close to my hotel, and WOW! I was blown away. I had the veal meatballs, tempura asparagus, oxtail risotto, and bacon ice cream brownie. Every item was gourmet, the meatballs were tender and juicy. The asparagus were delicious and crispy. The bacon ice cream was phenomenal and unexpected. I want to draw special attention to the oxtail risotto. This was the best dish I have had all year. Lastly, the staff were great, and the chef even greeted me with my final dish after he heard my plaudits from the bartender. This touch shows that Carson Kitchen is not only a great restaurant but also a wholesome place. EASILY 5 STARS read more

It's always fun to find a new best restaurant. This one will be at the top of my list. I love the menu options as you can see from my photos. You can order and share several choices and try them out. The Mac and cheese will serve just two but the others easily four. The crafted cocktails were very yummy and the wine very nice. It's a bit pricey but worth every penny. Last night my husband and I dined on practically everything on the menu starting with our favorite Devil's Eggs to their Pep on Pep Pizza to Chicken Thighs, my favorite Goat Cheese Beet salad and Truffled Baked Mac & Cheese, ending with both the Donut Bread Pudding & Berry Crumble - yes, we ate all of it. It is encouraging to see restaurants opening during a pandemic. I highly recommend Carson Kitchen - it is truly a neighborhood restaurant. I stumbled upon Carson Kitchen while looking for places to eat in Vegas. Was pleasantly surprised to see they have a location in downtown SLC. I promptly booked a table for a Tuesday evening. Located near the Salt Palace, I'm sure they'll get plenty of traffic when conventions are in full swing. The dining room is spacious with tables, banquettes, and kitchen counter dining. We chose the counter and received a great show. Our chef was informative and entertaining. Very professional. We chose the deviled eggs and the bacon jam, then moved on to mac&cheese and a pork tenderloin with a peach chutney and apple butter mustard. Dessert was a bourbon brownie with brown butter bacon ice cream. No regrets. Highly recommended! read more

Im so glad our 1st choice wasn't available. We decided to try this new place out. What a delight! It is a tapas like restaurant with some American Fusion food. Our first course included Fried Chicken skins, shrimp, tempura fried green beans and that was delicious. When we first arrived our waiter who was delightful brought us complimentary deviled eggs. We'd seen that on the menu and wanted to try it and what a nice surprise to get the complimentary For our larger tapas. we had the salmon, flatbread, and the meatloaf. The place was pretty empty but I was stopped before taking a seat at the bar to be asked if I had a reservation. There was a large party that had just hit the kitchen so they didn't want to seat me and then be delayed in my food. The devils eggs weren't seasoned well. The "Fine, you?" cocktail was good and well balanced. I also had the salmon and a smoky mezcal cocktail. Again the cocktail was much more flavorful then the meal. The mango salsa was light with ripe pieces of mango, but with how fatty the salmon was (which was cooked to perfection) I needed more of the acid from the lime to sharpen up the flavors. read more
