I'm so thrilled to have something this excellent in SLC. Arlo has been a staple in the valley and I can't believe I waited so long to try it. We sat at the chef's table for dinner and every single dish was beautiful, both visually and in flavor. It was honestly so refreshing to finally eat somewhere in SLC that feels artistic and on par with what you'd expect from restaurants in bigger cities. You can tell the chefs genuinely care about what they're creating. It felt more like watching artists at work than just people cooking dinner which I just absolutely love and appreciate so much. We had the beet salad, the risotto, and the fish, and also got to sample the Caesar. Everything was excellent, the pistachio cake for dessert was nice as well- I'd say the dessert wasn't as on par with the rest of the dishes but everything else was very good. We'll absolutely be back to see what they do with the seasonal menus. It was a breath of fresh air and I feel like I've missed out waiting until now to try it. read more

This is a late review, but we went to this restaurant in late March, and I still can't stop thinking about how it is one of the worst meals I've ever had. Everything tasted off and we weren't quite sure what flavor profiles the chefs were going for. We ordered: - Fish & chips: overly salty and over-fried - Terrine: flavorless and the bread it came with was oily and heavy - Chicory salad: vinaigrette was sour and bitter - Risotto: strangest dish I've ever eaten. it was sweet but savory (not in a good way) and honestly tasted like dirt To top it off, the service was awful. There was no one at the front reception upon entering on a Saturday night. The server was difficult to flag down and barely checked in on us. Arlo met our expectations on all levels. The clean contemporary interior with a view of the kitchen was neat. The service was on point and attentive. The food was well prepared and savory. Each of the five in our group had a separate main course which was preceded by shared appetizers and salads. I especially liked the cooked cabbage dish with what tasted kind chorizo, the savory roll with herbs, and an egg tart with greens. I had the sea bass as my main course and it was very nicely prepared with a crispy skin over the tender, flaky meat. I can't remember what it was served with but the flavors blended well. Others in our group had a ravioli over a beet sauce and a summer risotto with sea beach mushrooms and corn. I sampled it and It was rich and tasty. We ended the meal with a nice raspberry tart, a cherry pie and a pavlova with gingered peach. I didn't care for the pavlova much but did like the other two deserts that we shared. Arlo is a nice place for a special dining experience with a good wine and drink selection in a classy venue. I recommend giving it a try. read more

I wish I had more stars to give! It's so rare for a nice restaurant to develop delicious vegetarian food! As a vegetarian, I often feel like they just put some bland roasted vegetables on the menu to say they have an option. However, here each and every small plate was exquisite, and it took everything in me to not lick the plates! Our server was attentive. The place has simple refined decor and filled up quickly and was quite lively for a Wednesday evening. Oh and the cocktails, again wow! We went here for date night (our 2nd time there). We made reservations for their patio, which is really nice, but it was a bit hot as our reservation was at 6pm and the sun was hitting us pretty hard. I would recommend going later in the evening during the summer. Parking is tough as it's street parking, but we found a spot no problem. For appetizers, we enjoyed the bread and butter, cheese and crackers, polenta, and tomato salad. Our favorite was the cheese and crackers, which included a beautiful homemade cracker with brie, apricot, and mustard. For drinks, we had the gin, vodka, mezcal, and tequila cocktails. My personal favorite was the vodka cocktail, which was super refreshing. For our entrees, I had the ravioli and my husband had the fish. Honestly I wasn't too big of a fan of the ravioli. It was beautifully crafted and well presented but I wasn't a fan of the texture of the pasta. My husband enjoyed his fish dish. We were too full for dessert. Every dish and cocktail was beautifully crafted and our server did a great job taking care of us. We'll definitely be back a 3rd time. Ok so being British seeing the picture of "fish and chips" on yelp had me crashing out BUT this place had great reviews and was close to the hotel so I bit my tongue And glad I did! The "fish and chips" was light and though hard to taste the fish had a good taste. Chicory salad was amazing, whatever dressing they had along with the goat cheese really hit all the right spots Vegetable tart was great along with the greens on top, not sure what it was but a single sprig contained great flavour The ravioli was mid, creamy beat, makes for a nice visual when you get into The samosas were damn good, especially the sauce on top Highlight of this was dessert which we nearly skipped on. The chocolate mousse was MELT IN YOUR MOUTH AND (more so than normal mousse) and the cream on top (I hate cream) really had me gobbling and contemplating getting another but alas my a1c scores have been making me ration Anyway, lovely , calm inside with equally calm and lovely service. This was a fun dinner! The restaurant itself is clean and cozy. Seems like a house-turned-restaurant. Very cool to see the open kitchen and the artists at work! The bread and butter was unique and very enjoyable. I loved getting rip off the layers of bread that were both flakey and soft. They actually gave us an extra appetizer of empanadas since our food was taking a while--honestly I didn't really notice it was taking long. But the empanadas turned out to be my favorite thing I ate! For my main, I got the ravioli which was good. It was flavorful and moist, but it was missing some kind of sauce and was definitely not enough food. Everything was very well done and well presented with very unique flavors. I appreciate that nothing on the menu was exactly like a dish I had ever had before. My favorite was the risotto, so savory and flavorful, especially if you like mushrooms! So happy that I discovered this absolute hidden gem of a restaurant during my short stay in SLC!! (Disclaimer: by hidden gem, I'm referring to its unassuming location in a residential neighborhood and reservations being wide open on a Saturday night... but it's otherwise very evident that Arlo is widely renowned for top tier dining among local foodies). I was impressed by each and every dish that we ordered, which was painstakingly prepared with stellar presentation and top-notch quality of ingredients. The composition of each platter was very thoughtful, with disparate ingredients skillfully paired together creating one unique flavor and texture experience after another. My favorite dish of the night was the stuffed rainbow trout, but I would also highly recommend the seafood stew as well as the bread and butter. Between the two of us, we shared 2 appetizers and 2 of their "small plates" (actually reasonably portioned) and left feeling satiated not stuffed. Highly, highly recommend Arlo for a fine-dining experience minus the fine dining price tag. Perfect for a nice date night or special occasion, but they also serve breakfast which unsurprisingly has rave reviews as well. Pro-tip: they have a dedicated parking lot that is below the restaurant -- next to their outdoor patio, you have to drive below ground and parking spots are typically wide open as the lot is pretty lowkey/not well-demarcated and everyone is usually trying to find street parking, which can be a challenge as the neighborhood is pretty hilly with a lot of traffic at nighttime. read more

I can't tell you how terrible our experience was at Arlo Saturday night july 18th. Our server couldn't speak because he was at a concert the week before, he also pestered us every five minutes to get our order in, and then Put our dinner order in with the appetizers so we got them all at the same time, all the food was awful. The flavors were not marrying together at all, this chef MILO needs a slap upside the head, his food isn't good. The recipes aren't good. The cabbage was edible, but we had to bring in our own wine, their list is bad. I don't know how to say this, it if you don't have good service, food or beverages, you will get a one star review......you need a restaurant manager there at all times to make sure it's all running smoothly. You need a lot of help. ANd Milo, you need to get a helmet and wear it daily because if you can't take criticism you need to get out of the food scene. read more

Delicious food in a cute place. Ambiance: I love houses that are renovated to be restaurants. There's always something very cozy and homey about them and this restaurant definitely had that feeling. Plenty of spacing on the inside, seats facing the food prep area if that's your vibe, and a really nice patio as well. Service: Quick and friendly with nice recommendations for wine and food choices. Food: I got the bread, fish and chips, empanadas, peppers, the risotto, and the lemon tart. The bread was delicious and flaky with a rosemary take. The fish and chips were an interesting recreation that was light and refreshing. The empanadas were also delicious with a good amount of heft that went well with the light salad that came with it. The risotto was a nice embodiment of the fall season. The lemon tart was just the right amount of tart to round out the meal with a nice balance in contrast with the heavier risotto. They also had a very nice wine selection of your more common varieties and less common that were nice to try. Overall, cute restaurant with good food. It appears that the menu rotates so I will definitely be back to continue trying their creations. read more

On the good side: Pudding cake was very good. Our server was also very very nice and polite. Gorgeous lamps for the place. They are beautiful. Putting lillies as decoration was a mistake, as their odor is very strong and suffocating for most people. It made the whole place smell very unpleasant. Raviolis 1/5 - were not raviolis, but dumplings (?). After browsing through socials of restaurant, I figured that those were actually called cappelletti. Nonetheless, those are two distinct dishes, and you should not be advertising raviolis as them. This is not good and is misguiding. The chef was trying to cook them al dente, but it ended up badly, as the dough of cappelletti is much thicker than raviolis, which made all of them tasting like rubber. The flavors were also lacking, making the dish bland. I wish there was something to make it more interesting. Sour cream - might sound simple, but would have been a very very good choice. Risotto 3/5. It was average. I liked the addition of nuts to it. But it definitely lacked salt. Fish and chips 1/5. Very unbalanced with each chip tasting differently due to different amount of ingredients in each chip. Was too overly bitter, as it had a ton of mustard seeds. One of the chips was also spicy out of nowhere? Cheese and crackers 1/5. Same thing as fish and chips. Poor combination of flavors. That preserved apricot mustard should have been much sweeter or more acidic to give a better pairing with brie cheese. Pudding Cake 5/5 Delicious! Actually, one of the best desserts I tried in SLC. The cake was moist, and a very successful choice of ice cream to put it with - i believe it was butterscotch. Not too overly sweet, which is a hugeee plus. One tip - serve it on a bigger plate. I would expect more attention to each dish as the menu is small (it's not bad that it's small) and there is barely any choice. read more

We searched for restaurants in SLC that people considered deserving to be in the Michelin guide and Arlo restaurant kept popping up. After our experience here, I completely agree with these people! Very innovative food, exceptional service, and honestly, the prices for each dish were very reasonable. Arlo is located in a quiet neighborhood and has its own parking lot, which is a huge plus (just go down the driveway). Service/Ambiance: The inside has a rustic, modern feel. There were lots of 2-4 person tables that could probably be made into 6 person tables. There's a whole outdoor area inside a canopy and looked to have ample heat lamps. We opted for the bar seats inside facing the open kitchen and we absolutely loved it. We're no professional cooks but we appreciated watching the head chef and the other chefs work well together in a calm manner. It was enjoyable seeing them plate each dish. Each dish came out fairly quickly and we didn't have to wait to finish a dish before the next one came. Shout out to our server Kyle for a great service. Food: The dinner menu is simply laid out in one page, making everything easy to see. Our server explained which parts are appetizers, shareables, and main dishes. My husband and I shared each dish and we were pretty stuffed at the end. Usually in restaurants like this, I can easily say that some dishes are good to skip. But we were pleasantly surprised with each dish and we'd order these same items again. For drinks, I ordered Rum Cocktail ($12) and he ordered Mescal Cocktail ($12). The Rum drink was sweeter, which is how I like my drinks. -Bread and butter ($5): crispy outside and soft in the inside. The thyme was apparent and made it so flavorful that I didn't have to use too much butter like I usually do with other breads that aren't as tasty. -Small potatoes ($10): petite whole potatoes in brie fondue, duck fat, and crispy bits-- this was surprisingly sooo delicious. Potatoes were cooked nicely and the toppings together worked very well. -Fish and Chips ($9): housemade chips topped with fish. You'd think everything on it was salty but the flavors of each ingredient worked so well together. Must get! -Vegetable Tart ($14): also a must get! -Duck Ravioli ($29): main dish; pasta was cooked nicely and there was a generous amount of duck inside the raviolis. -Lemon Tart ($12): we asked our server what his most favorite dessert was and this is what he said. My husband who usually doesn't appreciate lemon desserts actually liked this a lot. Overall: We were definitely impressed with Arlo and I highly recommend this restaurant. I chose Arlo based on the reviews of other Yelpers and the beautiful photos of their dishes. I feel like my expectations were met and everything was as delicious and beautiful as I had hoped. I started with a spritz cocktail, which was very citrus-forward and light. It included a sprig of fresh sage leaves, which I broke off to chew with each sip. Delightful!! This was followed by what was listed as a 'chicory' salad, but came with radicchio (is radicchio a kind of chicory? Maybe...) - it was perfection - colorful, flavorful, and a good portion size. Besides the radicchio leaves, the salad had a 'pesto' of yellow squash which was the base, and it was 'decorated' with fried sage leaves, edible flower petals, chunks of a kind of feta or goat cheese, nuts, and strips of either cucumber or zucchini which were rolled. I loved this so much I will be recreating it at home... For my main dish I had the roasted potatoes small plate which came with roasted and smashed blue potatoes and a chunky 'sauce' made with chorizo and almonds. This dish was balanced and savory and I also really enjoyed it. For the table, we got the obligatory bread with 'quite possibly the world's best butter' (so says the menu) and it lived up to the hype; we could have ordered one per person... My dinner companion selected the braised short rib ravioli for her main - there was a generous portion of fresh-made ravioli pockets filled with the beef, sitting on top of a pesto with some radicchio leaves and sprinkling of grated cheese - she used the bread to wipe the bowl clean. We also decided to indulge in dessert - my friend went with our server's suggestion to get the chocolate pudding, and loved it - a serving of scratch-made dark-chocolate pudding on top of berries macerated in sherry served with a kind of toffee or caramel crisp. Decadent but not over the top. I opted for the lime tart, which came in a pastry shell and was decorated with mini meringues and dollops of what I think was a raspberry puree - it was tangy and complimentary to the tart, but I could not distinguish the specific flavor. The consistency of the tart filing was velvety, and overall I thought this was very balanced between sweet and tart. The bill for 2 people, several courses, including alcohol and dessert, was over $100 including tax and tip, but I felt that was on par with similar dining experiences in other cities when considering the quality ingredients, visually-appealing plating and excellent service. Definitely recommended! Note that parking is free but on the street, and the restaurant is located in a residential area, so you may have to walk a little. There is also a beautiful outside seating area. The day we visited we felt was too hot for us, but several other diners took advantage of being outside. read more

Very dissapointed.. We had a 6:15 dinner reservation , walked in on time and saw we were one of three couples there. We asked if we could sit on the patio to which the host simply stated for reservation only(there was no one there) Not the end of the world tho. We sat down in the middle of the resturant, the host got us water and handed us menus. We waited 10 min making eye contact and even signaling to a water if we could start our ouder. Nothing.... Every staff member was twiddling their thumbs not doing anything. I even raised my hand to see is someone would notice. I understand if the resturant is slammed but again we were two of eight customers in there! From reading the reviews and things people had to say we were so exiced to dine here, very sad to feel unnoticed and wish we could have gotten service. Arlo never fails to be an exceptional experience. The ever-changing menu is always surprising and so incredibly creative. Descriptions and photos even can never do justice to the food. The depth of flavors, layer upon layer are just astonishing. We always tend to over order because we want to taste so many things and they are all delicious! Last night we went for our anniversary; both the food and the service were both great. The place was busy inside and out. We had such a wonderful experience here overall. The ambiance was absolutely beautiful, the food and cocktails were incredible, and we were so happy we received this recommendation. We were genuinely having a great night. Our waiter truly made the evening special, attentive, kind, and thoughtful. When something uncomfortable happened later in the night, he listened, validated how I felt, and went above and beyond by checking in, bringing us a chocolate tart from the chef, and making sure we left feeling cared for. I'm incredibly grateful for him and want to sincerely thank him for turning things around. Unfortunately, there was one interaction with a host that shifted the energy of the evening. We were seated on the heated patio with only two other couples, and it was extremely hot. He turned the heaters back up multiple times without asking anyone how they felt, despite no other tables being occupied yet. When I politely asked him not to turn it up, his response felt dismissive and the tone was uncomfortable. At one point, he moved the heater toward me and implied it would be my responsibility if another table was cold, even though no one else had arrived. It was upsetting enough that I actually teared up, which is not something that should ever happen during a dinner out. One interaction like that can unfortunately change the entire experience. That said, I'm glad I spoke up and even more glad that our waiter handled it with such professionalism and empathy. This is still a wonderful restaurant with amazing food, drinks, and staff. I just hope this feedback helps, because no guest should feel dismissed or uncomfortable during an otherwise lovely evening. read more

Arlo is a trendy seasonally inspired restaurant tucked between houses near the Capitol. The whiskey cocktail was fresh and easily downed. My fish entree was delicious. Very fresh flavors and meaty salmon. But overall, I think this place is doing too much. The seasonal tomatoes were coated in seasoning, you could barely taste the produce. The brie, apricot spread, and sesame cracker had too many flavors going on. The bread was more parsley than anything else. We also waited 15 minutes before we were helped by a server, meanwhile there were only 2 other tables seated inside and I was staring at 4 servers huddled in a circle chatting behind the counter. He also skipped over 2 people at our table while taking drink orders, and couldn't remember what we ordered, and between 8 people we only ordered 3 different dishes. It didn't seem like he really cared. This restaurant concept has potential but I think they need to simplify their flavors and let the seasonal ingredients be the star.
